OBIEE alert capabilities

Should OBIEE (Delivers) be used for notification alert to banking customers for transaction level alerts. I understand that the OBIEE server is capable of sending alerts based on events (during the analytics process ie. answer adhoc query) or sending alerts at scheduled timings. But can the OBIEE also fit the bill for building transaction level alert capability where OBIEE fronts the ODS (operational data store) and acts as a proxy to identify the transaction status in the underlying ODS. Your help, pointers, guidance is very much appreciated. Also note that What are the pros and cons of this approach ?I would not suggest this as a good practice as this will overburden BI Scheduler for each and every single transaction. Monthly statement and other notifications shud be fine which is not very frequent...but for real time changes like daily, hourly, minutely transactions shud not be sent as alert.

Urgent: OBIEE Alert.. User unable to save the alert results....

Hi,
User see alerts on his 'My dashboard' page. However after clicking on the Alert link he wants to be able to save the results but cannot do so because the alert opens in a new window and no download button is available. Also he cannot use File ->save as from the browser window because it opens in a new window. Can you please suggest how he can save the results.
Another user is able to save the results because the alert opens as a new dashboard tab so he can use File -> save as.
Any help is appreciated very much.

Settings->Administration->Manage Presentation catalog->the requisite folder permissions --> here u can add that users as Adminsitrator and test it
Method 1:
give access for shared folders were the filter is stored to the user, because shared filters were stored there only.
Method 2:
I got the problem resolved by doing the following. User can access My Folder/dsahboard now:
1. delete the <user> folder and <user>.atr in catalog in OBIPS directory
2. Restart the BI services
3. Login using the user.
ie., Installed Drive :\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance2\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\catalog\*YourCatalog*\root\users

Can someone explain how Agile Product Lifecycle Management Business Intelligence 3.1 fits in with Oracle BIEE? Is Agile being merged into BIEE?

I am currently an Msc student of the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom and am working on my thesis involves the use of Oracle Business Intelligence platforms in establishing workflows and processes when creating a digital oilfield for the oil and gas industry. I will be glad if you can tell me with a case study how you have been able to implement the Oracle Business Intelligence solution successfully in any company and how defines the data being used in terms of usefulness, completeness, clarity, reduction in costs, accuracy and precision. My thesis involves making a comparison between IBM intelligent solution systems and Oracle Business Intelligence platforms for oil and gas exploration. Server Monitoring

Hello,
I am currently monitoring several Linux servers (both physical and virtual) with Quest 'Spotlight on Unix'. It gives a nice agentless look at the operating system performance (cpu, memory, disk, process, etc). I provides some history. But it is an expensive tool which we purchased as part of the Oracle Database Spotlight package.
Since my DBA Team is not really using the Oracle database features of the product, I am curious what other System Admins are using for this. We have a larger enterprise monitor for the datacenter (Netiq) but I am looking for an interface I can run on a desktop (client or web) that will give a graphical monitor of each of my Linux servers on a summary page with drill down and some alerting capabilities.
And most of all...Free :)
I am seeing Zenoss, Nagios, and some others when I research. Any opinions?

Solution Landscape vs CEN Setup

Hello all,
i am unsure how to setup the Solution Manager 4.0 for monitoring a sattelite system like a XI-Server.
Possibility one:
Within the Solution Manager you can maintain a solution landscape. The solution landscape allows monitoring CCMS alerts on the sattelite system as well as administering the sattelite system by calling several transactions remotely on the sattelite systems.
Possibility two:
On Solution Manager you have also the possibility to setup the Solution Manager as CEN (rz21). Relevant CCMS data is polled via RFC connections or pushed by agents from the sattelite systems to the CEN.
Questions:
What are the advantages/disadvantages on using one or the other possibility? Or is it even a good idea to use both?

Hello Frank:
1) From the Solution Landscape in the System Monitoring area you will have the possibility to look at the CCMS information that is currently gathered from your monitored systems; you can also from there complete the alerts or navigate into the system to analyze the problem.
2) from CEN you will be able to trigger alerts in terms of email or pager notifications, this is useful if you don't want to look at System Monitoring in the Solution Landscape but you want sort of strong alerting capabilities from a central location if for instance some particular component in the SAP system has reached some threshold value.
I will recommend to use both !

One thing is monitoring using CCMS on ABAP to monitor JAVA and ABAP systems. For that you will be able to find the complete information on the following PDF:

In this case you only need an ABAP 7.0 system where you can use auto reaction methods and/or the Alert Framework provided by ABAP for sending alerts to email or pagers and you do not need Solution Manager or Solution Manager Diagnostics.
On the other hand you have the End-to-End Root Cause Analysis that use Solution Manager Diagnostics as tool for workload analysis, exception analysis, trace analysis and change analysis, for this you will need Solution Manager (ABAP and JAVA) and WilyInstroscope. Currently SMD does NOT provides any alerting capabilities it is only for reporting and problem analysis.

BOXI service monitoring

All,
I just wanted to get an idea from the experts here - which tool/application, in your experience, has done a good job in monitoring of Windows-based system services (BO XI R2 services to be specific)? I am looking for some open-source (or freeware) tool that can help me with monitoring for the status of all BO services, including Tomcat. Any alerting capabilities when services go down or are high on CPU/RAM utilization would be added bonus, but if not, basic service monitor would be okay as well.
Has anyone used any OTS or custom tools for this kind of systems administration on Windows-based BO servers?

I really like the maps as well... with the qualification that what is best is having a phone attached to it. I've only had the phone a week and used this feature 5 or more times to find a place and then immediately just call it. That's something the touch won't be able to do even within a wi-fi spot (g).
But today I think I found something equally cool -- someone sent me an email with their phone number and I was able to press the number and dial it. It's one thing to hyperlink to a URL within an email -- to be able to dial an embedded phone number is wicked (anyone knows if this works on web pages? That is, can the iPhone identify a phone number on a web page to press and dial? I need to check that out).

OBIEE 11g: Dashboard not invoking simple javascript alert

Hi Experts,
I'm trying to invoke one simple ALERT command with javascript in obiee 11g dashboard. The purpose is when it loads, it should print one ALERT message and also when we change something in the prompt and clicking Apply button.
Here is code written in a text item (Checked html markup option) after prompts;

</script>
The Javascript alert message is showing when the dashboard page loads, but its not coming when we click the Apply button after changing the prompts.
Can anyone give helpful hint, how to check it and why its not showing up when we press Apply button?

You just used code and I would say the default event is onload of the page, thats the reason you are able to see alert.
Since you didnt ask or written code onClick event to show alert, its not showing.
You need to tell to browser when to prompt alert message instead of onload.
Hope you are more confuse about 'how to do'

I thing i have to do some modification in instanceconfig.xml & biee-domain.xml, can anyone please tell me by which code I have to modify both files & in which section.

For the benefit of other users:
With help from Oracle support I was able to solve this error. The workaround is to populate Saved Results Set tab and QLI-Cache tabs completely.
In our system we are not using any functionality associated with these tabs. Since Oracle suggested I had to do it !!!
After populating these tabs the error didn't occur.

OBIEE Security Alerts

Is there a metalink note which lists all CPU or security alerts for the OBIEE product?
We are currently applying the latest security patches for our various oracle products but cannot find any listing for OBIEE

I don't think there're any security patches for OBIEE, at least I'm not aware of any. I think that OBIEE isn't a security threat in itself, as long as your servers are secure.

Customizing Alerts in OBIEE 11g
