OBIEE client tool

Hi,
We are install OBIEE client tool in windows with admin privilges.
Getting error if other users in access the OBIEE client tool.(No issue with admin users)
Error Message:
Invalid Path:C:User\sukumar\Appdata\Local\Temp\20\oracle\instance\bifoundation\oracleBIserverComponent\coreapplication_obis\repository
Warning:Please make sure that Environment variable ORACLE_INSTANCE is set to a valid path.
kindly help on this.

Obiee 11.1.1.5.0 client tool : Data import issue

Hi All,
OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 server is on LINUX 64 bit
OBIEE client is on Windows 32 bit machine.
what i have till now is:
@Client machine:
1 Added data source entry in client TNSNames.ora @C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
2. Added a environment system and non system variable by TNS_ADMIN = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
3. Set the system DSN perfectly
@Server machine:
1. Added TNSNames.ora file at
- /opt/fmw01/obiee/Oracle_BI1/network/admin
- /opt/fmw01/obiee/oracle_common/network/admin
2. At location
/opt/fmw01/obiee/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/user.cmd
added a entry like this TNS_ADMIN= /opt/fmw01/obiee/Oracle_BI1/network/admin
Now when i am going through Administration tool @client machine:
*1. Online mode:*
Import Type: Remote Server
a. ODBC2.0 and ODBC3.5 is disabled ..Why So ?
b. OCI 10 g/ oci 11g: i am giving datasource name(datamart) , id and password but it giving error like The connectin has failed. :(
Import Type: Local machine
a. OCI 10 g/ oci 11g: i am giving datasource namedatamart), id and password: its allowing me to go ahead and import data in the rpd. and after saving rpd if i check View data it show me error" The connection has failed " :(
b. ODBC2.0 :i am giving datasource namedatamart), id and password: its allowing me to go ahead and import data in the rpd. and after saving rpd if i check View data it show me error" The connection has failed " :(
c. ODBC3.5 :i am giving datasource namedatamart), id and password: its allowing me to go ahead and import data in the rpd. and after saving rpd if i check View data it show me error" The connection has failed " :(
Why so ????
*2. Offline mode* a. ODBC2.0 and ODBC3.5 :going perfect with same credentials..able to see data :)

Hi,
ok try to set the registery key
*1. Edit registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\<Oracle_Home> to make sure NLS_LANG key is set to a valid characterset for the Oracle Client used as the DSN.*
*2. Please edit the file %OBIEE_Client_Home%\\oraclebi\orahome\bifoundation\server\bin\bi_init.bat to set %ORACLE_HOME%\bin as first entry in the PATH.*
3. Please add TNS_ADMIN entry to the bi_init.bat file to point to your Oracle client tnsnames.ora home directory path (in case exists) or to your OBIEE tnsadmin %OBIEE_Client_Home%\Oracle_BI1\network\admin.
e.g.
set TNS_ADMIN=C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin
OR
set TNS_ADMIN=C:\Oracle\OracleBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\network\admin
ex:
1.Copy the tnsnames.ora from Oracle Database home (ORACLE_HOME\NETWORK\ADMIN\) to the following locations.
\OracleBI1\network\admin (Example: C:\OBI\Oracle_BI1\network\admin)
\oracle_common\network\admin (Example: C:\OBI\oracle_common\network\admin)
2.Set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable value with one of the copied locations in the step 1 in user.cmd or user.sh file depending on your OS. This file will be found under \instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication\setup (Example : C:\OBI\instances\instance2\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication\setup)

OBIEE Installation and configuring Client tools.

Hi gurus,
I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 and oracle 11g on Linux machine, and my client tools are installed on my local machine.
So know i need to configure both, suppose i have created a rpd file on my local machine and i want to create analysis in my OBIEE web console in Linux machine.
Actually i am quite new to OBIEE, so if you guys elaborate this step by step it would be helpful to me.
I really needed this help and i will really appreciate if you guys gonna help it.

Installed OBIEE Administration tool on 32 bit client, next step ?

Hello all,
I have installed a BI Server on a 64bit server and OBIEE administration tool on a separate 32-bit client as described in the following post :

I assume that next step would be to migrate the BI Discoverer EUL to BI Server; but are there any other configuration that I should do first before that ? Should I install an application database in 11g prior to the migration ? My client only wants a demo with an example from the currently existing EUL so I thought I would make this as simple as I could...

Hi,
If you look at the compatibility matrix you can see the Admin tool is only supported up to Windows 7, there is no official support for Windows 8 / 8.1 on the current version (new versions will maybe introduce it).
I also read somewhere the 32bit version works, but I also read it was extremely slow when opening (10-15 minutes) and no guarantee everything works.
In the end the best solution is probably to run it in a VM for now waiting for new releases.

OBIEE 10.1.3.2 Client Tools installation on Windows - Installation Error

By Client Tools I mean Administration Tools, ODBC Driver and so on (all components included in OBI Client Tool option in OBI installation wizard)...
Just for your information , when I try to install OBI Client tools (same option in the wizard) in version 10.1.3.3.1 on the same windows platform, it works very well !!!

I am currently working on the proposal for a Financial BI reporting project for a company in the UK and would like to know the advantages of using ( ESSBASE + OBIEE Dashboards) solution over (OBIEE ADMIN TOOL + OBIEE Dashboards).
As the project has complex data model the client is insisting on Essbase; will ESSBASE give me more flexibility over BI Admin tool in data modeling and cube designing?

Hi,
OBIEE has infinitely superior reporting functionality to Essbase.
Essbase is absolutely excellent if you want to give your users data input and intuitive drill features. For financial projects Essbase is excellent for budgeting, planning, forecasting etc where you want a good deal of user input on a flexible and intuitive basis for data modelling from a large end user audience.
Essbase is a highly complimentary product for OBIEE as OBIEE fills its reporting needs, modelling Essbase cubes in the repository is brilliantly fast and Essbase' cubes create things like dimension hierarchies purely by dragging physical cubes into the business model layer.
11g features like asymmetrical drilling, ragged hierarchies etc could have been built with Essbase in mind - and MOLAP was definitely built with Essbase in mind.
I would recommend looking at the Oracle by Example for Hyperion (which has Essbase at its core) for a feel of what Essbase can do for you.

Patching OBIEE Admin tool to 11.1.1.6.1

Hi I've successfully patched my OBIEE server on linux to 11.1.1.6.1 but I still need to work on my client(Administration Tool) on Windows, which remains 11.1.1.6.0, does the full OBIEE server patch on Windows will work for my client only? Or is there a standalone patch for the Administration Tool.

This installation will be logged here : \Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\ check if its error'ing out or trace files will be helping.
No GUI when you running the runinstaller.exe and admin and compatible mode ? BTW What is your OS, Java and System config's

I have not installed or tried installing on Windows 8 so i would say may be installing a oracle vm with downgraded os version of windows 7/below and run the OBI client installation or wait until Oracle releases a supported installer version.

OBIEE Administration Tool Language Settings

I am using Windows 7 pro German. Because of the language seetings of operating system: OBIEE administration client tool came with German language settings.
I would be glad if someone have a similar problem and can help to change it to English.

To open the RPD in the Administration tool of a user machine you need to do the following steps:
1> Go to Control Pannel---->Administrative tools---->Data Sources(ODBC)
2> Select the System DSN tab.
3> Click Add to add the DSN for the Remote systems RPD.
4> Select the ORACLE BI SERVER option from the list of Drivers and click finish.
5> Provide the Name of the DSN and the IP address fo the remote system in the Server option in the opened window and click next.
6>Provide the ID and Password for the Remote RPD and click next.
7>It will show you the RPD to which you want to connect. Select the RPD and Click Finish.
8> Now open Administration tool in the user system and click on Open online option. You will be prompted for Different RPDs.
9> Select the RPD for which you created the DSN.
10> Give the User name and Password and you will be able to open the remote RPD.

Https call from SAP SOAP client tool

Hi,
in order to call a webservice via https using the SAP SOAP client tool, I've done the following:
1. The Client cert field filled with my personal certificate from IE (pcert.pfx)
2. The Trust store field left as it was (cacerts file of the jre).
When calling the service I am getting
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: No trusted certificate found
Very likely this is caused by setting 2.
Could anybody advise how to get an X.509 certificate of trusted root CAs? Any chance to export from IE or would one have to get that from a CA? File types required are ppfx or p12, which is strange since these contain private keys.

Hi Rene,
You need to include the full certificate chain in the p12 file. i.e. private cert and root CA cert. IE will not export the full certificate path with the private certificate unless it was imported into IE with this flag set. You could use Firefox to generate the pks12 file. It will include the full certificate path.
This private certificate (p12 file) should then be added to the truststore in XI.
Also, .p12 (pkcs#12) file format defines a file format commonly used to store private keys with accompanying public key certificates - not just private keys.

I am very new to HFM and would like to know what practice a HFM consultant will use in editing the metadata.
My boss recommend me to edit metadata( .app file) in excel and save it into a format that can be read and opened by client tool.
However, I find no way to achieve this.
How can i edit metadata in excel and then open it in HFM client tool?

Good morning,
I think the best way to do it it's working with macros. You can work with an Excel file and then, convert it to the .txt format by using macros. A .txt is more suitable to be later worked as .app.
However, you can also do it by using Copy/Paste.
1. Open the .app in a Note Pad, so you can work with .txt file.
2. Copy the .txt data in the Excel file.
3. Then, it's just working with Data > Text to Columns to format the file. Then, you can work in Excel.
Then, you will have to put the Excel file in a .txt, so you will have to follow the data files requirements. You still can do this manually, but you will have to pay attention to the format (FILE_FORMAT=11.1.2, !VERSION=11.1.3609, !CUSTOM_ORDER=Custom1;Custom2;Custom3;Custom4, !APPLICATION_SETTINGS, !CURRENCIES, etc., as it is the Admin Guide). It will also depend on the HFM version you're working with, specially when working with customs.
