Hi Obiee Experts,
Kindly help me plz.......
I am going to implement OBIEE (10.1.3.4.1 version) Clustering (Active-Active) mode.
I had refered oracle document but no luck, I have few query's can you please share me for inputs...
· We need to install cluster controller or already installed default (OBIEE Enterprise Edtion)?
· We need to install BI Presentations Plug -ins in server (we have already deployed obiee in weblogic) ?
· In Production,I had installed OBIEE Enterprise Edtion version ,Does our current version allow us to operate in the OBIEE clustered mode ?
. We have weblogic in production, If require to install BI Presentation servers plug -ins separately or we can use weblogic plug -ins ..
Please post me for your valuable comments it's very urgent.........

• A Load Balancer serves as the entry point and load balances Oracle BI web requests to multiple web servers. Two scenarios for the web tier are shown.
• The first scenario shows IIS as the web server with BI Presentation Services Plug-in (ISAPI) deployed.
• The second scenario shows a J2EE based application server with BI Presentation Services Plug-in
In Clustering where we configure BI Presentation Services Plug-in, I am not understand in this scenario.
Can you please explain this BI presentation services plug-in part means (step by step what we do).

What documentation says :
shut down both PS1 and ps2 ( Presentation services)
and put you r validation elements in instance config (ps1)
and start your presentation services ......
Do I need to do it on both presentation services (or)
Is it fine If I do it on one node... Please clarify....

In any of the RPD deployments I'm getting the same error , not for some particular RPD .
FYI , yesterday (before this issue) I had a issue with starting presentation services , so as adviced in forum I replaced the files sawguidstate and sawguidstate.atrin the location:
<Instance_Home>\instances\<instance_name>\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\catalog\<project>\root\system\mktgcache\<name>
with the same files from a backup or from another working OBIEE 11g (11.1.5)instance.

Ports the need to open for OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7 cluster installation

We are installing obiee cluster on RHEL 6.3 servers, installation is successful if we stop the firewall on all servers, but when we open the below list of ports(that are supplied by oracle) we are able to install OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7 on first host but the second host throws the following error, are we missing any ports and also I assume that the scale out host try's to connect to primary host domain using 7001 and its open. I don't know why the heck i get this error

NQSError: 47051 error on Windows cluster

I’m getting nQSError: 47051 while installing OBIEE cluster on windows.
Here’s the situation. We are installing OBIEE (10.1.3.4) on a two node (Windows 2003, SP2) cluster. The shared file system is built on a SAN using windows clustering. This windows SAN cluster is also attached to the primary OBIEE server as a local drive. All the shared files (Repository Publishing Directory, Cache directory etc.) are mapped to this cluster.
After the configuration the OBI Server doesn’t start and throws error
[nQSError: 47024] The Oracle BI Server participates in a cluster but errors were found in the cluster configuration file.
[nQSError: 47051] The Oracle BI Server is specified as participating in a cluster, but global cache file storage location, <My shared file location, is invalid.
I am perplexed since I (or the user owning OBIEE) can see this disk using ‘Windows explorer’ and read and right to it. Then what can be the issue with OBIEE server?
Funny thing is when I specify my local directory (the SAN cluster attached locally) as the cache location it works!
Interestingly I found out that there is a bug (6165192) on OBIEE 10.1.3.3 where simillar problem is listed. Not sure if that is still applicable to 10.1.3.4.
I noticed that we have all kinds of firewall (internally) between the servers. Can that block the OBIPS communication with the server to which the SAN disk is attached? If yes, then what Protocol is used for such a communication and on what port?
Did any of you face similar situation? If yes, then what was your resolution?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

In our environment we have installed OBIEE 10.1.3.4 on two windows servers(primary and secondary) and these servers not clustered using Microsoft or any other cluster software .
We are planning to use SAN drive to hold the shared cache, now we are facing a challenge in configuring the SAN to see from both OBIEE servers, is it possible to use the SAN with out installing any cluster between these servers.
I understood from above post that you guys implemented/installed OBIEE on Windows environment with SAN.
Is it possible to have a quick call. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Initialization tasks in a cluster?

Hello!
          Do you know of a way to initialize ressources (like an external
          scheduler or some initial database calls) in an application deployed in
          a cluster?
          My current approach (which fails for clustered deployment) was to have a
          startup servlet (deployed in a .war), which calls an initialization
          method in a stateless session bean (deployed in a -ejb.jar in the same
          .ear). But when deploying the ear to a cluster, the startup servlet is
          executed in each cluster (of course it is) and therefore the
          initialization tasks are triggered in both clusters. But they are not
          idempotent, so calling these initializations multiple times is wrong for
          my application.
          Any suggestions are welcome...

Which server - BI Server or Presentation Services server?
In an OBIEE Cluster it's only your BI Server and Scheduler that are Clustered.
You can configured your Presentation Services to be load balanced, and the two answers given already will both help you for that.

Query on OBIEE Clusters

Hi Experts,
I have implemented OBIEE Cluster Configuration on 2 linux Servers (serverA and ServerB). I have selected ServerA as primary CCS and ServerB as secondary CCS and presentation services running on windows Server. All the configurations has been done successfully and all users are able to loggin in.
But when users are accessing the page, all hits are going on Server B which is Secondary CCS. And my rpd file is reading from local directory of Server B (/u04/app/product/obiee/OracleBI/server/Repository) not from shared directory.
In NQSConfig.INI:
REPOSITORY_PUBLISHING_DIRECTORY = "/d03/obiee/OracleBI/server/Repository";(/d03 is NFS to ServerB)
REQUIRE_PUBLISHING_DIRECTORY = YES;
Do I need to modify any other parameters in any configuration files, please help!!!

Orainventory corrupted in a cluster

Hi,
There is a 4 node cluster and I was assigned to apply a DST patch on one node (ex: server-C). And server-A and server-B have databases running on them but not on sever-C and server-D.
When I checked server-C, I did not see any database on it. Then I tried to apply the DST patch on it and it failed (since the other nodes are having running databases)
After the failure of the patch, I noticed that the Orainventory is corrupted.
So somebody please help me how to fix this problem.

Help with Cluster install

I installed obiee 11g on a server1. There was a sql server installed on port 7001. So, the admin server was installed on port 7002. Now, I can access the EM,Console from port 7002.
Now, i want to install to do a cluster installation on server2.
The admin server wont be installed on server2 from the info I know. It only installs bi_server2. So, after the installation how do i access the EM,Console,Analytics. Do I use the same links that i used when there was only i server?

1. First you have to implement weblogic cluster mode.
2. Then you have to implement OBIEE cluster setup -- Please refer the below link.

OBIEE 11.1.1.7 cluster installation on AIX

Hi guys,
Does OBIEE 11.1.1.7 version support enterprise installation with scale out for AIX (6.1) platform. i read oracle documentation and it recommened software only install for AIX. having enterprise installation would reduce my hassles as i am on a tight timeline. please suggest.

Yes you need to do software only install other wise libraries will not get installed properly it fails.
To scale out your installation using the Software Only Install type on a shared network drive and with a shared Fusion Middleware home, you must specify the same domain home for all computers in your cluster. This can be accomplished by setting the same value in the Domain Home field in the Scale BI System Details screen of the Configuration Assistant. Using the same domain home for all computers in a scaled-out system with a shared Middleware home is required to start one or more managed servers within a domain through Node Manager.

Cluster (Load balancing) implementation in obiee 10g

Hi All,
We need to implement clustering (Active-Active for Load balancing) in our project. We use both analytics and bi publisher. We also need to deploy analytics/bipublisher in to weblogic server for SSO purpose.
Now we have two machines.
As of now We did the installation of obiee10g (while installing we selected "Complete" button) in both machines. Could any body tell us how to implement clustering w.r.t to weblogic.
To proceed futher we need to know..
+1. Did normal clusrtering method in 10g with oc4j server differs when we deploy application in weblogic server..?+
+2. Can I use any of the two machines to create a shared folder and place rpd to give the path in REPOSITORY_PUBLISHING_DIRECTORY or should I use third machine other than these two machine..???+
Any help is greatly apprciated.

What could be the process.. First we need to follow the clustering method as if there was no WLS and later deploy the application and need to do the changes wrt to WLServer (or) First we need to deploy the application in WLServer and for clustering need to do changes in/wrt to WLServer..??

Query related to obiee 11g cluster

Hi Gurus,
We have setup the cluster envirnment in production.
In that envirornment, we can see
1) two console
2) One EM.
3) two analytics
In the cluster envirnment, do we have only one EM? Is there anything went wrong in installation?

2. Do we need to configure DHCP loopback adapter in Linux as well as we do in windows? If Yes how can I do it in Linux?On Linux x86 operating systems, configure the host to resolve host names to the loopback IP address by modifying the /etc/hosts file to contain the following entries:
127.0.0.1 hostname.domainname hostname
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
After doing so, check that the host name resolves to the loopback IP address by entering the following command:
/bin/ping hostname.domainname

OBIEE Cache mangement in cluster enviornment

Hi all,
We have cluster env in OBIEE(Two OBIEE server)
Node1 primary node
Node2 secondary node.
now I want to seed the cache using IBOT(In single env we got it)
And purge the cache.
1. Do we need to do it on both the node.
or how we can do this?

Looks like you haven't looked at Oracle BI servers' DSN, just see how it is configured and the other options.
DSN is configured based on environment no matters if it is single server or cluster.
Pls mark correct/helpful.

Implementing OBIEE in Cluster mode...

Hi Experts,
I am installing OBIEE(10.1.3.4) in cluster mode.for this i have modified these files
instanceconfig
xml,isapiconfig.xml
NQClusterConfig.INI
NQSConfig.INI
odbc.ini and web.xml.
i am able to start all services successfully in both servers(i have only two) .
my question is how to access dashboard i mean what is the URL for this ?where do we need to configure this? and how to test this cluster part?
