OBIEE Control Formatting of Chart

Hi all
I am just starting to use/learn about charts in OBIEE
I was wondering, is there anyway I can control the spacing between columns in a regular vertical bar graph?
Currently my chart is showing up with all the measures/values side by side
It would be nice to have a bit of white space in between certain sets to provide some spacing.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

That empty fact/measure is a neat little trick
Would it be possible to create some "grouping" or white spacing if it is all the same measure seperated by groupings?
So for example I have course registrations as follows
Course 1 Course 2 Course 3
Registration 2012 6 4 6
Registration 2013 4 54 60
So right now the vertical bars for course 1, 2 & 3 are all side by side, 2 bars for each course (2012/2013 year)
I wanted to group 2012/2013 on top of course 1 - white space - group 2012/2013 on top of course 2 etc
Would this be possible?

  • BEX- Formatting associated charts

    Hello
    We are working in BI7.0.
    In my workbook i have created Charts, wich are linked with the queries (Grid Tabl + Asociated Charts)
    When i do this , the charts is incorrect (color , legend, series...) I can change it directly in EXCEL , but when i refersh, all my modifications are deleted
    Any idea to control the asociated charts ?
    Thanks

    Hi Ludovic,
           Goto the properties of the Analysis Grid, there you can find a check box called 'Apply Formatting'. Untick the check box.
           Hope, this will help you to solve the issue...
            Assign points if it helps...

  • Custom Formatting Of Chart Legends

    I've been playing with Flex Charting, and I have lots of nice
    looking graphs that I've created from database feeds. However, what
    I really want to know how to do is format the chart legend better.
    For example I have a pie chart that has about 50 different data
    items/series and the legend is huge in either horizontal or
    vertical mode it prints all the way down the page. How can I make
    it two, three or more columns?

    Hi Justin,
    I think, there is no way to do such a customization with the standard Javadoc (i.e. powered by the Standard Doclet).
    After all, the job of the standard Javadoc is doing standard (general) things and I just cannot imagine any general rule (setting or option) that would embrace all kinds of possible customizations about displaying of annotations.
    So, the only way in your situation would be to modify the doclet itself. You can try tweaking the standard doclet: overload some its classes or change sources (according to the license they provide). However, I just can say, that way proved to have lots of limitations.
    Fortunately, I could suggest you a different rote that would allow you solving your problem in a few minutes. We have a product called "DocFlex/Javadoc":
    http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/
    This is a highly customizable Javadoc doclet. More exactly, this is a system for rapid development of professional quality doclets (with the support of both framed/single-file HTML and RTF output).
    With that tool, the generation of every sort of Javadoc output is programmed in special templates (using graphic Template Designer). The product is provided with the "standard template set" that generates the HTML Java API documentation very similar to the standard Javadoc.
    In fact, to solve you task, you will need to modify a subtemplate called "annotations.tpl". See on this page: http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/templates.php
    If you are interested about all this, we could help you to modify the necessary template absolutely free. Then, you will need only to buy a full product license to have everything work without limitations and that will be all!
    So, if you are interested, please let us know by sending a e-mail to the address found on this page:

    is it possible to change the date format in a chart?? Example: From 'dd.mm.YYYY' to 'dd'
    Edited by: Gerrit Lober on Jun 25, 2008 2:21 PM

    Hi
    No it is not possible to change the date format in Chart
    Bcos the chart displays the values or the date from the report.
    If you need to change the display in chart then Display in the report should be changed.

  • OBIEE 11g : Conditional formatting in Chart view based on different column

    Hi ,
    I would like to add formatting to the bars based on another column.
    Ex: I just want to highlight bars(metric) when it is less than target value.
    We have conditional formatting option in charts but , its working on the same column but not comparing with other columns.
    Thank you..

    Hi, If you have column A and column B , and for example you want the values of column A to get formatted if the the correspoding value of column B less than a specific value. You just go to Criteria -> Get to Column A -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose your Column B , and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value you want"
    Now, In case you want the values of your column A to be formatted if they are less to the corresponding value of colum B, Well, I don't think it is natively integrated, but still, here is an idea :
    You drag again your column B , so that in Criteria -> Selected Columns , you'll have the columns A - B - B , then, you go to the newely added B Column -> Edit Formula and modify the formula to be ColumnA Minus ColumnB.
    Then go back in selected columns to your A Column -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose now the new column ( ColumnA Minus ColumnB ), and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value *0* "
    You can later, go and hide the colum A Minus B from Edit View in Results.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • How to control sorting in Charts in Obiee 11.1.15

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement of creating a chart where the Horizontal axis being populated with dynamic values
    Problem is , when I try to give alias names for these values it is disturbing the sort order which is came before
    Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem(for giving alias names for these dynamic values but it should not disturb the sort order which comes before)
    Regards,
    ao

    Hi Naresh
    Thanks for your reply.
    In ViewCriteria -> UI Hints we can set attribute Rendered Mode as never, but that perticular attribute still appear in 'Add Fields' section.
    I think renderedMode=never means that attribute doesn't appear in Advance or Basic mode user need to manually select that attribute.
    So please suggest me how to achive my requirement.

  • Controlling format in power pivot

    Hi we run 2012 entwrprise.  Can the format of a cell be controlled by what another cell has?  eg if other cell has an A, this one shows as currency.  But if it contains a B, this one shows as just a number with 1000'ws sepaeator?  If
    yes, is this done in the pp window or in the pivot table?

    Hi DB042189,
    The only way I can think of achieving this within the Power Pivot model is by converting the numbers into text based on the conditional logic. I have provided a quick illustration of this approach below...
    Here is the very simple test data:
    Column1
    Column2
    A
    1000
    B
    1000
    A
    500
    B
    700
    Here are the defined measures:
    SumOfColumn2:=CALCULATE(SUM(Data[Column2]))
    And...
    FormattedSumOfColumn2:=
    IF(
    HASONEVALUE(Data[Column1]),
    SWITCH(
    VALUES(Data[Column1]),
    "A", FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "£#,#"),
    "B", FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "#,#"),
    FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "General Number")
    FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "General Number")
    Here is the outcome:
    The idea here is that for charts you would use the measure that returns the actual numbers (i.e. SumOfColumn2 in the example), and for Pivot Tables you would use the measure that returns the formatted text (i.e. FormattedSumOfColumn2).
    You can read about the more 'interesting' functions out of the ones used in this solution:
    HASONEVALUE:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492190.aspx
    VALUES: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee634547.aspx
    SWITCH: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492166.aspx
    FORMAT: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee634924.aspx
    Hope this helps,

  • Format % in chart label when Data Label Option is 'Show Series and % value'

    I am using:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.2)
    Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.54.25)
    I have a report that returns 2 columns 'Repair Status' and 'Count' The graph is a pie chart and I have selected the Data Label Option as 'Series Label and % value'. The percents displayed in the label have no consistent format. Sometimes 2 decimal places, sometimes 4 decimal places. I want the chart label to consistently display the % in the chart label with no decimal, i.e. 96%. How can I accomplish this?

    Hi,
    Where you selected 'Select Label and % Value', there is a button at the bottom, Format Data Labels. In there, there is a Number tab where you can play around by selecting Currency, Percent, etc. Have you tried this?
    Cheers.

  • Having trouble formatting excel chart using Chart Wizard command.

    Problem Description :
    Trying to create an excel chart derived from an excel spreadsheet. Having trouble understanding the parameters to format in the Chart Wizard function to get the desired results. There are no error messages, just chart is not what expected.
    Goal:
    Chart with temperature on the left, y-axis. 3 lines on the graph for min meas temp, avg meas temp, max meas temp.
    Bottom x-axis should contain year/month values.
    Chart Wizard command:
    status = ExcelRpt_ChartWizard (chart_temperature_handle, chart_data_worksheet_handle, D1:G3, ExRConst_GalleryLine, ExRConst_Rows, 0, 0, 0, 1, "Temperature Stats", "Year/Month", "Temp F", NULL)

    Hi Mary,
    Looking at the Chart Wizard within Excel, it appears as though the only
    chart type that allows us to give a series of values for our XAxis
    would be the XY Scatter plot. There IS an option for this when using
    the CVI Excel Report function calls (specifying
    ExRConst_GalleryXYScatter for the plot type).
    However, it appears that there are not any Excel report chart functions
    available in CVI to specify anything other than the general "series"
    object. When this object is sent through as a variant data type to
    Excel, Excel appears to automatically convert this single object into
    separate data series. This is because Excel is not immediately aware
    that we are attempting to use a Scatter plot, and thus must convert
    each column into a separate series. There is no object defined in the
    Excel report that would be able to handle the "Xseries" and "Yseries"
    option that are seen in the chart creation wizard within Excel. Thus,
    we have no way of specifying a different set of data for our XAxis.
    It appears as though, at least for our own CVI functions, that there is
    no way to accomplish your goal. Since CVI is based around C - we CAN
    call any ActiveX client registered on the system. Because of this, we
    should be able to talk with Excel directly without the help of the CVI
    Excel Report functions, although this may be more difficult.
    I haven't been able to find any specific C example code, but here is
    the Excel Object Model on which calls to Excel will most likely be
    based:

  • OBIEE 11G Formatting Question

    Hello - I'm new to OBIEE 11G.
    Is there a way to format one column of a pivot table to have the percentage sign (and possibly have more decimal places) and leave the rest to whole numbers?
    Thank you.
    Jennifer

    To format a column, simple go into the column properties and change it to percentage.
    Take a look at the documentation...

  • Stacked format in chart using graphics:chart

    I Implemented a graphics:chart element and is working fine, I know how to set Pie format, bars, line in 2D or 3D, but I cant find info about how to set the stacked format.
    I read the PDF that comes with the SAP chart Designer. In the section “Blocks” with Time Axis gives and example.
    And the example is the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

    <Categories>
      <Category>20060703;120000</Category>

      <Category>20060706;120000</Category>

      </Point>
      <Point>

      </Point>
      <Point>
       <Value type="y">59</Value>
      </Point>
    </Series>
    </ChartData>
    I copy, paste this example and I dont get stacked columns I see 2 series for each category, and I see 20060703;120000 as a label of the column. Something is wrong and I dont get it.

    Hi Roddy,
    I can only assume that the default value for this attribute is for a column chart.
    Here is a sample of a stacked column chart. I just did what was suggested above but using ChartDesigner to create the customising and then I pasted it into the sample. As mentioned I created a second series of data.

  • Value formatting on chart axis in WAD

    Hi experts,
    In WAD charts, I use an ordinary line chart.
    Is there a way to format the value on the axis so that it becomes thousand separated?
    I.e. Instead of a value on the axis of 80000000, we would prefer to have 80 000 000.
    BR,
    Niclas

    I described it in this thread:
    WAD Graph-  Value Axis display value with commas
