OBIEE Data  visualization

Is there a data visualization software like XCELSIUS (SAP BUSINESSOBJECTS) in OBIEE ?
Thanks

Coming to your other query regarding possibility to use visualization components developed using "ADF Data Visualization" in OBIEE, yes OBIEE 11g uses ADF 11g. How do you do this? Adequate information is not yet available.

  • Oracle OLAP as OBIEE Data Source

I've got a couple of questions regarding the use of Oracle OLAP (Analytic Workspace/Cube) as an OBIEE data source.
First: As a general rule when creating a dimension, we create a total roll-up for the dimension i.e. "Total Product", "Total Geog", "Total Customer" etc... Generally, I don't create a total roll-up for time dimensions. When importing metadata from OLAP to OBIEE, OBIEE creates a "Total" level for all dimensions. Now, I understand why OBIEE does that; to support queries that might exclude one or more dimensions. My question is: what is the best method/procedure to deal with the extra "Total" level?
Second: I would appreciate it if someone could explain this error for me: [nQSError: 59137] Filter level YEAR is below the projected level Total on dimension CMP_TIME while an externally aggregated measure is present. (HY000). I understand the words, but have no clue what OBIEE is trying to tell me. This error pops up constantly and I see no rhyme or reason that would cause it. the specific case above occurred when I clicked on the sort icon for a measure included in a report.
    Thanks,

    Mark,
Thanks for the reply. However, I'm not sure I made myself clear. I have created a "Product" dimension in AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) in the following structure: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product. Withing the context this hierarchy, "Total Product" is the "Grand Total" Level. When this data is imported into OBIEE using "Oracle OLAP" as a data source, the Product hierarchy is created in the Physical Layer as an "Oracle OLAP Dimension". In the BMM Layer, the hierarchy is structured as: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product -> Total. There are now two "Total" Levels. Naturally only one, the OBIEE generated Total, is defined as "Grand Total". The only child of the Total level is Total Product. I have two hierarchy levels that are the same. So, do we need both? should we keep both? Should a dimension defined within AWM for use in OBIEE NOT include a total level? It's not really a problem, it just doesn't seem to make any sense to have TWO total levels within a hierarchy.
On the second issue, I wish I could provide some detail, but I'm really not sure how I'd do that. That's why I asked for the meaning of the error. What is OBIEE telling me that I'm doing wrong. All I really did was import the metadata, drag it to the BMM Layer, deleted some of the hierarchy level keys, renamed some columns and dragged the stuff over to the Presentation Layer. So, it's pretty much drag-and-drop.
Another example of the error: We have a Category Dimension (Sub Category -> Category -> Category Group -> Model -> All Categories -> Total) and I want to see the top 10 values of a measure by Category by Model. In an Analysis, adding the Model column works fine, just not the best visualization. Move the Model column to "Sections" and all works; move the Model column to Pivot Table Prompts and it errors. Obviously, I'm asking OBIEE to do something it doesn't want to do, so I'm looking for the root cause of the error.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
in the component palette (while having an ADF Faces page open), right click and then choose "Edit Libraries" from the context menu. Choose the DVT libraries and toggle them to the selected libraries. The DVT components should show now

  • Upcoming Lumira Webinar June 11th on the topic of "Big Data Visualization and Custom Extensions"

The next webinar in the Lumira series is coming up this week on Wednesday, June 11th, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. The day is almost here and if you've already registered, thank you!
If not, please click here to register.
    Speaker Profile:
The topic is presented by the Jay Thoden van Velzen, Program Director Global HANA Services/Big Data Services Center of Excellence at SAP!
Jay has been working in Analytics/Business Intelligence since it was called Decision Support Systems in the late 90s. Currently he is focused on Big Data solutions and how to make the various components of such a solution run smoothly integrated together using the SAP HANA Platform.
    Abstract:
Big Data analysis poses unique and new challenges to data visualization, compared to more traditional analytics. Such analysis often includes frequency counts, analysis of relationships in a network, and elements of statistical and predictive modeling. In many cases, traditional visualization techniques of bar- and column charts, pie charts and line graphs are not the most appropriate. We have to avoid the “beautiful hairball” and make it easy for end users to absorb the information through clever use of filtering, transparency and interactivity. We will likely also need to provide more context to go with the visualization than we have been used to in traditional analytics. Moreover, in case of forecasts you need to include any confidence intervals in order not to mislead.
This means we need more chart types, and often the chart types you need may not exist, nor could the need for such chart types necessarily be foreseen. However, Lumira allows us to design and code our own D3.js visualizations and integrate it into Lumira while providing all the data access methods – including SAP HANA – that it provides out of the box. This means we can develop our visualizations to share the outcomes of Big Data analysis to exactly how we feel it should be presented. During the webinar we will show a number of examples, and specifically the integration of forecasts coming from R into Lumira through a Lumira custom extension.
We really hope to see you there!
    Cheers!

  • Flex 3.5 data visualization license

    Hi,
For Flex 3.5,  the data visualization library is freely available, but it's licensing  is unclear to me. Do I still need the Flex Builder license if I want to  use it in a commercial product?
The legal stuff page (http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Legal+Stuff#LegalStuf f-LicensesofthevariousFlexSDKpackages) mentions:
"Adobe Add-ons for Open Source Flex SDK – This package contains  all of the items that are in the Adobe Flex  SDK and not in the Open  Source Flex SDK. Downloading this file will  allow you to bring the Open  Source Flex SDK to parity with the Adobe  Flex SDK. This package includes  the Adobe Flash Player, Adobe AIR, the  advanced font encoding  libraries, and the code that allows licensing of things like the Data Visualization components. All of these elements are licensed under the  Adobe Flex SDK license."
But I don't understand what that means. Is "code that allows licensing of data visualization" something else than the "data visualization" library?
    Kind regards,
    Glenn

The Data Visualization components were open sourced, but done so in a somewhat quiet and lazy manner. Nobody ever bothered to update the descriptions on the open source download page to reflect the change and (as far as I can tell) they never bothered to properly repackage it. If you want the source, you also have to go digging through the Flex SVN. Reading the source, you can find all kinds of details that were deliberately undocumented reflecting when Adobe didn't really want you messing with it and/or wanted to give you a reason to pay. No cleanup. Just released as-is.
For me it's been great since I am at last able to finally dive in and understand how the components work, extend them, and can often fix the quirks fairly easily.

  • Mobile development using Adobe Flex 4.5 SDK and Flash Builder 4.5 for Data Visualization

    Hi,
I am currently looking at the feasibility of building Data Visualization chart/graph in Android mobile phones. I would like to enquire if the mentioned subject comes with the Data Visualization components as seen in the Tour De Flex.
    Cheers!

If you're using components specific to the Flex 4.6 release, then it would be a natural assumption that design view will not work.  If you're having this issue while using components that are not unique to Flex 4.6, then I don't have an answer.  On a good note, design view is completely useless anyway.  It's much faster to type than to drag stuff around with your mouse needlessly.

  • Using the Oracle ADF Data Visualization Components in a standard JSF enviro

    Hi,
I have asked this question on the JDeveloper and ADF forum, haven't gotten a response yet:
Using the Data Visualization Components from ADF in a JBoss 7.1.1
.. but I would like to ask the question here as well if anyone have used the data visualization components from Oracle ADF Essentials .. the free version ... using the graph components in general, but I am looking at specifically using the gantt chart component in particular ... in a standard JSF environment ( e.g. Tomcat + Mojarra, or JBoss with the built-in Mojarra implementation ) ??
I know there are other JSF charting components out there ...like the ones from PrimeFaces, but the gantt chart from ADF looks more ... well .. professional.

People are not prone to answer questions that are not really a problem. You want to know something about a free product, install it and see for yourself. In any case spreading your question around is not going to help you, the people who know about ADF are still going to be looking in the ADF forum. If you don't get an answer there, what chance do you think you have that you'll get one here where it is off-topic?
I'll close with a word of advice: you generally pay for quality. If you want professional looking charts, you'll probably have to look at commercial products.

  • ADF Data Visualizations group not showing up in Component Palette

I apologize for my ignorance, but I cannot find how to solve this problem. I am trying to use the data visualization components such as graphs but my component palette does not show this. It does show ADF Faces, JSF, and some others, but not this. I tried adding more libraries to my project's properties, but it does not show up. I am using:
    JDeveloper
    Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.2.0
    Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.2.0_GENERIC_091029.2229.5536
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Kerry

Go into project properties -> JSP libraries and make sure you add the data visualization tag library.

  • Data Visualization Education Path

    Hi,
I’m interested in learning how to create interactive data visualizations, such as maps and charts that will eventually be data driven. Here is an example: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/graphics/08_22_10_property_tax/
My background is in UX design (mainly Photoshop/Illustrator to xHTML and CCS) and I have had little to no Flash animation or object orientated programming experience. So that leaves me trying to figure what software, languages or other technologies I need to learn to achieve this and my head is spinning.
I’ve started the process by learning the basics of Flash CS5.5 animation from Lynda.com. Next I plan on learning ActionScript 3.0. However, this is where my questions start to arise:
    1.
For data visualization, is working in Flash Builder better or more efficient than working in Flash Professional?
If I wanted to do a map with shaded areas like the one in the example can this be done in Flash Builder alone?
Are there any data visualization tutorials using adobe products out there?
I understand that this is a pretty big undertaking and my questions may seem pretty fundamental, but at this point I’m just trying to figure out in what direction I need to go. Any insight will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Data Visualization Watermark Shows Up With RSL

When the data visualization component is linked as an RSL, I
see the 'Trial' watermark even though I have licensed the
component. I am creating both swf and swz files. Clearly I need to
attach the license key in some way to each build - but how?
    I am using FlexBuilder 3

I had another go at this today. I compiled the data
visualization component as 'Merge' - so it's not an RSL. I could
    still see the trial watermark.
I made sure that the valid FB3 license was included in
    license.properties AND flex-config.xml.
As soon as I switched back to 'Merged into code' , the
    message disappeared.
Interestingly, this was raised as an issue, and marked as
fixed on 27 November 2007, in the Flex Bug & Issues Management
    system (
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FLEXDMV-1408).

  • Stable Build with Data Visualization?

    Hi,
I just downloaded and installed the latest Stable Build (4.0.0.13875). Now my project has lost the data visualization components -- lots of compile errors about not resolving component implementations for the data visualization components that I'm using
Anyone know what I need to do get them working again? I suspect this is something simple, but I'm at a loss.
I had been using the Beta 2 version of the SDK.
    TIA,

I am not certain I understand the problem. Can you currently see an graph in the Fusion Order Demo? If not ensure that you have the flash plugin installed.

  • Web-based data visualization tools

Hi.  I originally posted this question to the LV forum, but I am going to modify my question because I think Diadem may be a good solution for us.
I am embarking on a interesting research project that will involve recording lots of physiological signals from patient monitors in a hospital.  I will be recording signals like BP, spO2, Pulserate, ECG, etc.
Right now, my main design concern is how to give clinicians access to the data after it is recorded.  I think Diadem might be a good solution, but I really want it to be web-based.
    Here is my wish list:
    - Store the data securely, where access can be restricted and controlled (e.g. user must login)
    - Allow users (who are granted access) to login and view historical data via a simple web browser
    - Allow users to pick datasets amd zoom, scroll, etc.
    - Allow user to view data in stacked plots (e.g. so they can see multiple signals simultaneously on the screen and scroll the time axis)
    - Allow user to annotate data (e.g. add comments at specific timestamps)
Do you have any reccomendations for a web-based data visualization tool like this?  Do you think Diadem meet my needs?

    Hello J Osborne,
You application sounds like a great fit for DIAdem and the DataFinder, with the exception of the Web-based nature of the application. We currently do not offer a native web interface to DIAdem and it's features, but there are ways to accomplish that using established technologies such as remote clients ...
Here are my comments to your individual questions:
    - Store the data securely, where access can be restricted and controlled (e.g. user must login)
    * The DataFinder Server (which works with DIAdem) technology can be used to give specific users access to only data they are supposed to see, so we can cover this part of your application
    - Allow users (who are granted access) to login and view historical data via a simple web browser
    * This would have to be achieved via a remote client solution, since DIAdem offers no native Web client
    - Allow users to pick datasets amd zoom, scroll, etc.
    * This is something that the DIAdem NAVIGATOR and DIAdem VIEW are very good at, including the ability to search for data sets based on specific key words, patient names, etc. and the ability to look at multiple data sets simultaneously in multiple windows with zooming and scrolling.
    - Allow user to view data in stacked plots (e.g. so they can see multiple signals simultaneously on the screen and scroll the time axis)
    * That's DIAdem VIEW, sounds like a perfect fit: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7384
    - Allow user to annotate data (e.g. add comments at specific timestamps)
    * DIAdem VIEW has the ability to highlight events with cursors, and we could easily add the ability to add comments through a custom dialog and a short script. We could prepare and demo this feature for you ...
I would be happy to discuss your application with you in more detail. Feel free to contact me at (800) 531-5066 (ask for Otmar Foehner) or via email at    otmar DOT foehner AT ni DOT com.

  • Data visualization components

    Dears,
I am in the process of developing a dashboard using flex, so
I am in need of Data visualization components like (Heat-map, Dial
etc). Can anyone please share me if you have any in built data
    visualization components. Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Ram

You are right. But I'm just sharing with you the info I collected in different places and all that coming from Oracle is in "may be but not necessary" manner ;) The only straight forward "announcement" (famous October the 1st) was proven to not be so exact ;)
Look at the last post of Ted Farrell in famous "11g Countdown" thread. He confirms the intention to support other J2EE 5 servers (like TomCat and JBoss).
For what I assume, they will support selected servers with intention to draw as many developers to JDeveloper as possible. Then, they will push most of them to ADF (when you get used to JDeveloper then it is easy to become an ADF addict). Then they will sell ADF licenses for the same price as SE1 servers and thus most of products will got entrapped into OAS 11g... Clever plan. Not bad at all, if they provide reasonable licensing policy/pricing.

    PaKo
