OBIEE Database Connection Properties.
Hi All,
Can some one provide a link or documentation for OBIEE Database Connection Properties. Especially about the Features tab details where in what is feasible to change and what does that effect in connecting to database ?
We are using 10.1.3.4 version OBIEE.
Thanks,
Did you try here already? http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm

Regarding web analysis database connections
Hi All,
I have couple of web analysis reports and the issue is i have copied this web analysis server to another server
where i have the same application. Now iam trying to append those database connection properties of the file to
point to the new server.
I have altered by selecting the user>database>select database>rightclick>edit>changed properties
But when i open the report it popping out with my old server details.
Does any one have idea about how to change database properties for a report.
Thanks,
RamHi Manoj,
I have created a DSN but how can i point the report to that DSN and run the same report as of my report running on my old server.
Thanks,

OBIEE 11g install fails on step 7 (database connect string)
I've currently spent 2 days trying to install OBIEE 11g on two machines (independently). This first is a Windows XP SP3 test PC running 4GB RAM, whilst the second is a Windows 2003 virtual server with 3GB RAM. The Database is Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) on AIX 5.3.
The DBA has successfully run the RCU on the Database and the schemas needed for OBIEE have been created. The BIPLATFORM schema has also been granted DBA privileges.
Now I've tried to run both the simple and the Enterprise install for OBIEE 11g, but it always fails at the same step (step 7 of 13: Database details). I have selected the following:
Database Type: Oracle Database
Connect String: hostname:port:instance, where hostname is the full server path eg xxxxx.uk.com and instance name is FFADEV01
BIPLATFORM Schema Username: As per username defined in RCU
BIPLATFORM Schema Password: As per password entered in RCU
If i change the connection string to FFADEV01.WORLD i get a 08031 error, whereas I am normally getting an 08035 error. The annoying thing is that I can connect to the schema using RapidSQL and the usernames and passwords as created in the RCU.
Any help greatly appreciated. ThanksHow was he able to install the BIPlATFORM schema using RCU on AIX? I thought RCU was only on Linux and Window platforms? I am about to install OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on AIX with a Oracle 10g DB but from what I read I wont be able to create the needed OBIEE schemas for the install because I won't be able to use the RCU on AIX. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

OBIEE 11g database connection error after deploying to server.
Hi,
I deployed RPD to obiee 11g server and when I run a report it is giving database connectivity error. In 10g we just specify OLAP_DSN, OLAP_USER and same in connection pool with database password. I did the same in 11g as well but it's not working.
Is there any other place I need to specify database connection detail?
Thanks

Hi,
I use Oracle.connect(getClass(),"connect.properties") before all of my #sql statements. If there are a bunch of methods with #sql statements, I use the connection method. I think this is my problem and Id like some feedback from other people.
1) Should i be using an Oracle.connect statement before every #sql?
2) If so, does it create new connections all the time or does it just know there is a current connection so it doesnt keep adding new connections?
3) Is there a way to get one connection and then test to see if there is a connection so that i dont keep getting new connections?
4) Do I have to close the connections? I tried Oracle.close(); but got some wierd errors. I read somewhere that If autocommit is true, you dont have to close jdbc connections.
Thanks for your time and I appreciate any feedback that anyone has to offer.Hi Adam,
Please find the answers inline.
I use Oracle.connect(getClass(),"connect.properties") before all of my #sql statements. If there are a bunch of methods with #sql statements, I use the connection method. I think this is my problem and Id like some feedback from other people.
1) Should i be using an Oracle.connect statement before every #sql?No, you don't have to call this each time, just call this once to intialize your DefaultContext and from then on, whenever
#sql is used, it would fetch the connection from the DefaultContext.
2) If so, does it create new connections all the time or does it just know there is a current connection so it doesnt keep adding new connections?No, it doesn't create connections each time.
3) Is there a way to get one connection and then test to see if there is a connection so that i dont keep getting new connections?There would be only one connection
4) Do I have to close the connections? I tried Oracle.close(); but got some wierd errors. I read somewhere that If autocommit is true, you dont have to close jdbc connections.The connection has to be closed explicitly using Oracle.close();
For samples on using connect.properties refer to,

Installation problem with NW'04 SR1: database connection failed
Hi all,
while installing NW '04 SR1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2000 SP4 I ran into an error related to the database connection. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes with the message
com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.
The connection to the SLQ Server with e.g. the Query Analyzer is OK. I had a problem with this installation setup before (have a look at the corresponding <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=338638&tstart=0">thread</a> ), the JDBC drivers where missing on the installation master but after copying them in the right direction the installation went on with no problem up to this point...
Has anybody an idea what could have happened here? Is this maybe a problem connected to the one I recently had
Below I attached the sapinst.log and jload.log with more detailed messages.

J2EE Struts - Database connection failed - help???:(
Hello,
I have built a little web application and it works without any problems. In the next step I tried to add a database connection but I have already worked on it for at least one day and I could not fix the problem with the database connection.
I downloaded the MySQL Server 5.0 and installed it, furthermore I have downloaded the jdbc driver mysql-connector-java-3.1.11.zip and extracted it to the MySQL Server 5.0 directory. Furthermore I have added under system settings - system - etended - system variables the whole path to the driver -> C:\Programme\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\mysql-connector-java-3.1.11\mysql-connector-java-3.1.11-bin.jar to the CLASSPATH systemvariable.
Then I have startet the SQL Server 5.0 with mysqld --console from the command line.
Furthermore I have added under Project-Properties-Java Build Path - Libraries - Add External JARs in Eclipse the mysql-connector-java-3.1.11-bin.jar to my Struts WebProject.
To test the whole thing I have added to the existing test-database from mysql a table named owner and wanted to test the database connection in the Action-class with the following statements - I quote the whole execute method of the OwnerAction class:
public ActionForward execute(
ActionMapping mapping,
ActionForm form,
HttpServletRequest request,
HttpServletResponse response)
throws Exception {
OwnerForm ownerForm = (OwnerForm) form;
String greet = ownerForm.getGreet();
String name = ownerForm.getName();
request.setAttribute("name", name);
request.setAttribute("greet", greet);
String address = ownerForm.getAddress();
String email = ownerForm.getEmail();
int tel = ownerForm.getTel();
Connection conn = null;
Statement stmt = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
DriverManager.registerDriver(new org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver());
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test","root","sa");
try {
//conn = dataSource.getConnection();
stmt = conn.createStatement();
int id = 0;
rs = stmt.executeQuery("select max(id) as counter from owner");
while(rs.next()){
id = rs.getInt("counter");
id += 1;
stmt.executeUpdate("insert into owner values("+id+", '"+greet+"', '"+name+"', '"+email+"', '"+address+"', "+tel+")");
rs.close();
stmt.close();
conn.close();
catch(SQLException e){
throw new SQLException("database error");
// Forward control to the specified success target
return (mapping.findForward("success"));
}But when I execute the WebApplication and the Action will be called the following error message appears in the browser:

Thank you so much for your response. I did test my database source from console and on the console it reported the test was successful, where in the admin logs has same exception logs. I did try creating a non XA connection and it did not have these errors. But my application did raise same exception while doing transaction.
The application has around 250 EJB's that are written long ago and they all comply to EJB 1.1 spec. I am in the process of investigating the level of support for EJB 1.1 in Weblogic 11g.

How to add two different database connections on Model
Hi,
In my application, I need to create View Objects on different databases. So I need to add two different database connections on the Model.
But it seems like Model can be connected to only one database. I tried adding another project to add the second db connection. But after I created a read-only View Object in the second project, it didn't generate corresponding data control in the Data Controls panel.
Could anyone help me on this?
Thanks!Do you mean adding the second project folder in ViewController->Project Properties->Libraries and Classpath?Yes, either that or: ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
And I didn't see the first Model project in the ViewController classpath. Otherwise it wouldn't work. The first model project IS in 'classpath'. Here's how:
ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
I tried this and recreated the View Object. Still didn't generate the datacontrol. No idea why you had to recreate the VO.
Is your VO in an application module inside the SECOND project?
After you are sure that everything is in the ViewController's classpath, just try restarting JDeveloper.
This is very basic. has to work. -
I am using the "fetch all" vi to do this, but it is retrieving one record at a time, (if you examine the block diagram) How can i retrieve all records in a faster more efficient manner?
If this isn't faster than your previous method, then I think you found the wrong example. If you have the Database Connectivity Toolkit installed, then go to the LabVIEW Help menu and select "Find Examples". It defaults to searching for tasks, so open the "Communicating with External Applications" and "Databases" and open the Read All Data. The List Column names just gives the correct header to the resulting table and is a fast operation. That's not what you are supposed to be looking at ... it's the DBTools Select All Data subVI that is the important one. If you open it and look at its diagram, you'll see that it uses a completely different set of ADO methods and properties to retrieve all the data.

Problem with Database Connections in the designer - Catalog not updated
This is Crystal Reports 2008 (12.2.0290). We have a number of reports that are viewed using the .Net runtime with the connection details set at runtime using ODBC to talk to SQL Server on different systems. This all works fine and is not the problem. The problem is when editing reports in the designer take the following example:
Developer 1 creates report on their machine that references tables. DSN Name is DEV_DSN, pointing at their local database on their machine called DEV_DB1. Developer 2 needs to edit the report on their machine with a DSN of the same name (DEV_DSN) but this points to a different database on developer 2's machine called DEV_DB2.
Developer 2 goes to the Set Datasource Location option in the Database menu to get it to point at their local DB only it doesn't work. They click on the first table included (or the connection name) in the report and click update - they are prompted for the logon details for their local DSN/DB and supply them but they see an error indicating that there is an "Invalid object name" because the table is still being prefixed with the database name from developer 1's machine. When the table is expanded in this view the Catalog still shows as the DB name from developer 1's machine despite the connection properties above correctly showing the local DB name.
As I say this is a design time issue not a runtime issue.
Any ideas? Is there any way we can edit the Catalog name manually?Try setting the Over ridden qualified Table Name
Set Datasource - > Tablename -> Properties
Double click Over ridden qualified Table Name, type name as shown in in the table name field above it.
Repeat for each table, this removes schema and db names associated with Table. Take a look at the SQL and make sure all tables are no longer prefixed.
Report should now be totally portable.

Database connection dialog no longer available
I want to add a connection to the connections in SQL Developer. However I cannot as I cannot access the database connection dialog.
I tried in different ways :
- plus sign above the connections
- editing an existing connection
- menu option : editing - properties when standing on a connection
- menu option : file - new and choose for new database connection
I do not get an error when clicking on these options. I just does not start any action.
When starting up SQL developer I see this in the log pane : "Exception firing addinsLoaded to oracle.jdevimpl.vcs.VCSManagerImpl$6@7d91275b"
Maybe this error is related?
I know as a workaround you can import a connection from an XML file. Tried that, it works, I see an extra connection in the list but I do not manage to use it to connect to the database.
Would be great to access the database connection dialog.The specific error you have listed is related to versioning support - do you use this? If not, then I would suggest switching off versioning support in the preferences (Tools > Preferences > Extensions) and trying again.
If that doesn't work, the error you list has been reported (along with a number of other errors, which you may or may not be getting) in Start-up error "DatabaseConnections has no JNDI context so cannot list ..." - do you have an ssoShell.exe running? If so, does killing it help SQL Developer?

Tomcat JDBC Realm Database Connection Error
Hello all,
I am trying to edit the server.xml file on Tomcat so I can use the JDBC Realm instead of the MemoryRealm. Hence, I will be able to read users, passwords and roles from a relational database instead of from the tomcat-users.xml.
I have tried following all the guides on the net I can find, my server.xml looks as follows (after making changes to allow it to use JDBC realm). The only problem is, when I try to run the application the server outputs the following: (after all of these errors have been kicked up a pop-up box then appears titled "Tomcat Manager Application", it asks for a User Name and Password. I have tried the standard user name of "ide" and the password next to it in tomcat-users.xml but it won't accept it. (I am using the netbeans IDE)).
Please could someone suggest any ideas of how I can get the server.xml to work with JDBC realm?

$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.

request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

A cluster has the following parameters:
className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
in case of multiple ethernet cards.
auto means that address becomes
InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
false means to replicate the session after each request.
false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
<%
HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
map.put("key","value");
%>
replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
* Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
* Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
nodes have received the information.
* Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
and then return to the client.
The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
large network delay.
-->
<!--
When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
2. a session exists (has been created)
3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
and cluster wide

Below is the info it outlines. The questions I have it this. How do you specify the psdriver and URL along with do I need to do this as a persistent instance then add my selectstatement as a part of this or can I just specify this and the select statement will use this connection? Any help you can give would be appreciated.
tcUtilJDBCOperations
public tcUtilJDBCOperations(java.lang.String psDriver,
java.lang.String psUrl,
java.lang.String psUsername,
java.lang.String psPassword)Contructor that sets the parameters for connecting to a database
Parameters:
psDriver - The class name of the jdbc driver
psUrl - The URL of the database
psUsername - The username required to access the database
psPassword - The password for the above username
