OBIEE fetching data.

Hi,
What is the role of BI server in OBIEE. Does the rpd we deisgn gets the data directly from the database we specified or when we run an Answers report it hits the rpd and then the rpd hits the BI server and then the database? I am trying to see how OBIEE works with the data but not sure exactly how? Could anyone please explain briefly. Thanks.

obiee will support any data warehouse structure OLAP/OLTP. But, usually olap + obiee is the combination to have star schema and built reports on star schema.. has several advantages...
anyways, you can import those tables to physical layer using OCI call interface..
if relationship is maintained in database, you can import even joins from database(see, there is checkbox option: Joins, while importing tables). If not, take help of DBA and perform joins between tables with 1:n cardinality based on the requirements..
now, in BMM, bring those tables and need to construct kind of star schema.. facts surrounded with dimensional tables.
As you said it's OLTP, most of your tables will be in normalized form. You need make all related tables to one logical dimension and add other tables to single LTS (Logical Table Source) in logical table of BMM(Business Model and Mapping Layer). For ex: products have product_type, product_subtype and main product table in physical layer.. which form snowflake schema with fact table. So, drag products table into BMM, then add other product related table to the same LTS using Add Tables option..
Now, perform Complex Joins between dimensions and facts..
Create dimensional hierarchies then maintain levels in fact depends on join and it's granularity of data..
Also, rename the logical column to business usage.. with camel case as standards..
Expose, those tables to presentation Layer then make them use in Answers..
I won't say it covered all the data model implentation in rpd.. but, it's like summary... and given example to understand how to model normalized tables .. in BMM...

here in first RFC call i am creating a record in ZTABLE , and then at break-point
i check the ZTABLE where it does not create any record because data is not commited into ZTABLE upto this point, but just after it i have written code for fetching data from ZTABLE but i am able to get this new record in lt.
Can anybody please explain that from where this serach RFC is providing data because inside serach i am simply selecting data from ZTABLE.

                 Thanks for reply , i checked in ZTABLE ,before search RFC call data is not there but if i commit explicitly only then it is showing data in ZTABLE. Actually my requirement is different -
I have two RFCs 1. Create 2. Search , Now from web dynpro user will call first Create RFCs but at this point it should not insert record in ZTABLE and just after it user will call another search RFC and in this search he should be able to get these newly created records.
I want to have the functionality which a user gets when working with normal database front end like SQLPLus for Oracle. In these scenarios we see that whenever user does any insert or update the data sits in the table but still it is not committed. So there he fires Select query he sees the inserted data. But if he logs off from SQL PLUS and then logs in again, and fires Select query he does not see the data as it was not committed. I want a similiar functionalty in which if user inserts the data through Create RFC and fires the Select query through Search RFC then he can see the newly Created data also even though this data is not committed.
Although if i call create RFC in update task it will not update ZTABLE but in this situation , if user will call search RFC he will not be able to get newly created records.
So my requirement is that i should be able to get those records which are not commited in ZTABLE .If you have still any doubt regarding my question then please let me know.

Hi Chetan,
I hope you know how to create a JSP Dyn Page, anyway I will explain it briefly.
Open NWDS->File->New->Create a portal application project->Specify the project name
right click on the project->New->Create a new portal application object->Portal component->Select JSP dyn page-(By default it creates class and all)->this is available under description on the right column-
Now goto the Java page->see the functions->attach zip and jar files(HTMLB plugin)
->Right click on the project->goto properties->Java build path->Add external jars->Select com.sap.portal.htmlbbridge.zip and htmlb.jar
This is how JSP page is created.
Now we want to do establish connection with R/3. That I will discuss in the next session.

Unable to change ADF standard text for af_table ("Fetching data...")

I wish to change the standard "Fetching data..." text displayed by ADF when scrolling through a table.
Looking at the description in http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/docs/skin-selectors.html, I expect to achieve this by overriding "af_table.LABEL_FETCHING" in my skinning resource bundle.
I am able to override two af_column messages, but my af_table override does NOT work.
My bundle looks like this;

Since I am seeing my customized column tip texts correctly, the reference from trinidad-config.xml to my skin should be OK (I am also seeing my visual skinning correctly). Since I am seeing some of my texts, my resource bundle must be valid, too. I am using JDev 11.1.1.3.
So why doesn't the af_table skinning work?
Any pointers appreciated.

I was having this problem too, found this thread and did cleanup here and there, redo etc. But ended up with no luck to fix it.
Just now discovered the issue is reproducible on the official demo site: table Skinning Key Demo
1. check the column sorting labels, prefixed with "Demo: "
2. change any selector setting to trigger a table refresh, it's always displayed as "Fetching Data...", without prefix.(as highlighted in the "Resource styles" on the same page, there should be prefix too).

Unable to fetch data in embedded Xcelsius PDF file on disconnected system

I have an Xcelsius 2008 document with QaaWS. I am able to export it to the PDF and fetch data using QaaWS.
I would like to know, it is possible for the embedded Xcelsius file in PDF to fetch data when the PDF file is sent to customers outside the network.
We are using Business Objects XI 3.1, Xcelsius 2008, QaaWS, MS SQL Server 2008

Hi,
When you send the PDF file for the dashboard you have created in Xcelsius, it takes it with the data available in embeded excel. You need not send the data separetly with the PDF.
However, if the data changes, you need to save the dashboard again in PDF format and send it to the user community.

You have to to specify the text node that you have created for the table that it belong to which cell in the table. Also you styles to format the text(eg: left aligned, center alinged etc)

Multiple select queries used in Excel BI report ,fetching data from Sharepoint DB(SP2010_Prod_ProjectServer) causing blockage on DB ,when more than one workbook(same copy of Excel BI Report) refreshed using Refresh All option.

I am using mutiple select queries to fetch data from Project Server 2010 DB(its sharepoint DB) and these queries fetch data in Excel BI report by establishing connection with DB using instance name and all. I have enhance all these select queries and data
is being fetched in secs. but when more than one copy of same Excel BI report is refreshed using 'Refresh All' option, then these select queries cause blockage on DB.
Please let me know mitigation for this blockage issue.
Should I use begin transaction and commit transaction statements/ shared lock statements.

How to fetch data from a SAP BW Cube via Perl/PHP on a Linux machine?

Hi all,
here's the scenario:
I need to fetch data from a cube of a remote SAP NetWeaver 7. The data will later be used in a web application based on Linux and Perl/PHP. (I'd prefer using perl for the backend and doing the business logic of the web application.)
I have:
A Linux system with all its on-board tools and scripting languages.
A user for the SAP BW which allows me to logon (very,very limited user rights, no se37,no se80,no rsaX and so on)
Access to http://<SAP BW Server>:<Port>/sap/bw/xml/soap/xmla with the above mentioned user.
My questions:
- Could you please push me into the right direction how I can realize this? E.g. by pointing to tutorials / HowTos / sample code / CPAN modules etc.. (Most information I found so far referred to software based on a different operating system and on remote function calls using custom functions.)
- I'm aware of the SAPNW::RFC CPAN module, but do I necessarily have to perform a remote function call? ( If so, is there a "standard" function I could call for accessing a cube?)

Select query taking too much time to fetch data from pool table a005

Dear all,
I am using 2 pool table a005 and a006 in my program. I am using select query to fetch data from these table. i.e. example is mentioned below.

                   where vkorg in s_vkorg
                   and     matnr in s_matnr
                   and     aplp   in s_aplp
                   and     kmunh = it_itab-kmunh.
here i can't create index also as tables are pool table...If there is any solutions , than please help me for same..

it would be helpful to know what other fields are in the internal table you are using for the FOR ALL ENTRIES.
In general, you should code the order of your fields in the select in the same order as they appear in the database. If you do not have the top key field, then the entire database is read. If it's large then it's going to take a lot of time. The more key fields from the beginning of the structure that you can supply at faster the retrieval.

How to fetch data in Excel throuth oracle forms 10g on client machine

I am using developer suite 10g forms and i want to fetch data in excel through forms 10g on client machine
presently i m using OLE for fetching the data in excel , it is working fine but it generates the excel file on server machine and i want get the output excel on the client machine. Is there any parameter to set the destination {Server or Client} which decides the location of output file. If such is the case please let me know or please suggest what should i do. Please help me with proper solution.

Generic datasource by function module to fetch data from multiple tables?

I'm writing a function module to fetch price, for generic datasource.
At first, extract test is OK. But InfoPackage never stop when loading data to PSA in BW.
And I find the example codes:

How to fetch data for a struture from a cluster table

How can I fetch data for a struture, from a cluster table, based on the name of the structure?

Hi,
In order to read from Cluster DB Table use the following statement:
Syntax
IMPORT <f1> [ TO < g1 > ] <f2> [TO < g2 >] ...
FROM DATABASE <dbtab>(<ar>)
[CLIENT <cli>] ID <key>|MAJOR-ID <maid> [MINOR-ID <miid>].
This statement reads the data objects specified in the list from a cluster in the database <dbtab>.
You must declare <dbtab> using a TABLES statement. If you do not use the TO <gi> option, the
data object <fi> in the database is assigned to the data object in the program with the same
name. If you do use the option, the data object <fi> is read from the database into the field <gi>.
For <ar>, enter the two-character area ID for the cluster in the database. The name <key>
identifies the data in the database. Its maximum length depends on the length of the name field
in <dbtab>.
The CLIENT <cli> option allows you to disable the automatic client handling of a client-specific cluster database, and specify the client yourself. The addition must always come directly after the name of the database.

How to fetch data from CDHDR Table based on Order Number

Hi,
I need to fetch the data from CDHDR just based on the Order number .I found there is a field called 'OBJECTID' in table 'CDHDR'. But the last part of OBJECTID contains order number.suppose my order number is 90506210 the objectid field contains '51030000090506210'.510 is login client,don't know what 30 is and last part is order number i.e 000090506210.i have to concatenate all and fetch data .i can do it for one order number but here order number is declared as select-options.how do i ?

You need to loop through the select option and concatenate with required data then select using 'in' instead of equal or select one by one.
or
select sales order numbers from VBAK for the selection into internal table then loop through the internal table and concatenate then select from CDHDR.
for better performance use objectclass in where clause. the value for sales order for objectclass is VERKBELEG.
in my system the object id is just an order number there is no other additions to it but in CDPOS the tabkey contains the order number with client and other information also.
the 30 may be your item number... check it
go ahead and change sales order and see what you can find in CDHDR
