OBIEE HR Analytics

Hi,
We are planning to implement the HR Analytics, at present we are using the OBIEE 10.X version and Informatica 6 Version. We got a new requirement in which our source data is OHRMS and we need to build the reports in OBIEE. I just want to Know whether it is good idea to Implement Prebuilt OBIEE apps application with Informatica 6 version or bringing the data from OHRMS to warehouse by using Informatica and OBIEE to build reports.
Please guide me whether to go with OBIEE APPS (7.9.6) or OBIEE 10.X.

It would all depend on the usability of prebuilt reports/dashboards that are delivered with HR Analytics against your original requirement. Also if you do not have a warehouse which is pulling data from HRMS already then it might be a nightmare to built a new warehouse from scratch so from that prospective you might be better of using this.
Again from maintenance prospective its always good to stay updated with the latest versions so its time that you move on to Informatica 8.6.

Thank u all for ur replies, but I dint the exact solution for what I'm searching for.
If I use the condition as
"WHERE "Workforce Budget"."Used Budget Amount" BETWEEN MAX("Workforce Budget"."Total Eligible Salaries") AND MAX("Workforce Budget"."Published Worksheet Budget Amount"",
all the data will be grouped with the two columns which I'm considering in the condition.
my actual requirement with this query is to get the required date from a table to generate the report either as daily or weekly or monthly report. If I use repository variables, variables are not getting refreshed until I regenerate the server(which I should not do in my project). Hence I have created a table to hold weekly start and end dates and monthly start and end dates to pass the value to the actual report using between operator.
please could anyone help me on this, my release date is fast approaching.

Is it possible to install OBIEE(Siebel Analytics) & Hyperion on same machin

Hi All,
In my Stand alone system i am having win2003 server and WinXP with saperate Partitions in saperate drives (like C: & D:).
My requirement is to install Hyperion 11.1.1 Essbase and Planning in Win 2003 server and OBIEE(Siebel Analytics) 10x in WinXP.
IS it possible to install these two technologies on the same stand alone machine with saperate OS and saperate drives. My machine capacity is 1GB ram and 80gb harddisk and 2.4GHz processor.
Plz suggest me some thing regarding this doubt

We will not use the two servers at the same time and this machine will not be used for any development,just for demo purpose. So we will use only one thing at one time for getting handson, that is why we are trying to install two things on the same machine
What we are exactly planning is C: drive which will have WIN 2003 server with 10g or sql server as database and .NET framework for HYPERION 11.1.1.. Essbase and planning installations.
and on the other side OBIEE is compatable for XP and need 10g database and JDK1.5.0 on other side in D: drive
In these two technologies Hyperion Installation are important to us and OBIEE is only if possible.This is the exact requirement and environment. Suggest me if anything is going wrong or we are planning over the limits
The machine is 1.5gb ram and 80gb harddisk and 2.4ghz processor.

Can't login to obiee 11g analytics

Hi Guys,
Client has installed obiee 11g in a server sitting at different place. We have deployed our own repository and catalog. Now we can't login to obiee analytics. It does not accept any username or password created in weblogic console. But if we deploy oracle's default SampleSales repository, then we could login. Can't understand what's the problem!
It's throwing the following error:

This is the exact format how my tnsnames.ora file looks. sorry, I can ping it in command prompt now. In my connection pool i tried first DSN = ab.bc.xy.zx, did not work. Then I saw oracle's default repository and changed my DSN to your suggested format starting from "DESCRPTION" to rest. Still no luck Do you think, i should put the same TNS in my local machine??

Not able to login in to OBIEE 11g Analytics on windows 7

HI All,
I have installed OBIEE 11g Version 11.1.1.6.0 on linux machine but i am not able to login into Analytics Page on windows 7 Machine whereas i am able to login in Analytics through windows xp Machine. All OBIEE Services are up and Running.

Try to check sawlog0 and nqserver.log latest error message? is your BI- LDAP working previously or fresh configuration error?
Note: It dosn't matter whether it's win 7 or windows xp. i am sure some wrong in ldap or Make sure your DEV_BIPLATFORM/DEV_MDS Schema password locked/expired if yes try to unlock it then test it out.

Using OBIEE 11g Analytics with VPD database

We are new to the OBIEE world. Our background has been in Discoverer for the past eight years. With Discoverer, the database handled all VPD issues. We simply had users create private database connections and Discoverer Plus would pass the user's credentials to the back end where a VPD policy would attach a predicate to a user's queries.
So I guess our question is, How do we accomplish the same thing in OBIEE 11g for Analytics? We don's see any way to get around the need for a shared connection pool, and we cannot see any way to add a database login screen, nor would we want to.
We are seeing things called initialization blocks and variables in the help files. We are assuming we will have to create some way of capturing the user's ID and passing it to the back end.
We can't be the first ones to face this challenge, so any help is appreciated.

in the connection pool, you can use :USER and :PASSWORD and these will send the OBIEE login to the db, assuming each OBIEE user exists as a db user this should sort you out.
Alternatively, you implement a psuedo-VPD using OBIEE Security filters, assuming you have access to the tables that VPD is using, you can hold the predicates to be applied in variables via INIT blocks and have OBIEE apply them on an as-needed basis. Check security filters in the documentation.

Is any documentation available for OBIEE Spatial analytics sample??

We are currently working on creating a demo wherein we want to enable users to drill on various hierarchies over world map. We are trying to achieve the same using SampleApp (v305) but have hit some roadblocks.
We could not find a document that explains the relationship between the tables of the Spatial Schema. Is there such documentation available?
We are unable to understand how is spatial data created and how to represent common sales analytics data using spatial data?
Is there any document explaining the steps taken to build the sample application map reports?
Is there a way to alter/customize spatial data based on specific requirements i.e. Interchanging certain cities within States etc?
Any help on the above issue ???

Error accessing OBIEE 11.1.1.5 Analytics in IE 7 ,IE 8

Hi,
I am using IE 8 and when i am accessing OBIEE 11g Analytics there is an error displaying in status bar.
The error goes : (3 items remaining) Downloading picture http://............... .png
I have switched to IE7 , error is same... however there are no items to be downloaded but still throwing an exception.
Kindly if anyone had a solution please share it, as this ticket is raised by my client i am in hurry...

First of all, this is not an error. Whenever, we request some web page (May it be analysis,dashboard,plain html,jsp,asp etc) the static stuff on the page like images/scripts (.js files) etc would be downloaded by the browser onto the local client's "Temporary Internet Files" location. There are many advantages of this process viz reduces the amount of data being transferred, caching it locally for faster access etc. There are many webservers out there, which help caching these kind of files at the server level, compressing them for reducing the data transferred too.
Now coming to the message, your client is referring to... Yes,this is the same thing happening here. So, there is nothing to worry and this is not an exception.

Giving access to users to run BI Publisher reports in Obiee 11G

Hello Experts,
I am trying to give permission to couple of user groups to run the BI publisher reports i have created in Obiee 11g analytics. when they try to run them they error out contact administrator and i have admin rights and i can run the reports. I dont see anything regarding BI publisher in Manage privileges page to grant permission to the groups. Where should i enable or grant the permission to these groups so that they can run those reports. Any advise is greatly appreciable.

hi,
i am new to OBIEE(Siebel analytics reporting tool). i need to know how to list the users of OBIEE..
Like in Business Objects we can list them by using Query builder. Wats foe OBIEE?

In the Admin tool if u have users in RPD u can view them in the Manage-->security.
If u have external table security and users set up there, use a sql query to get the users
if u have any other type of authentication find the appropriate type and query....for example LDAP....query the LDAP server for the relative DN

Hi,
Technically you can use OBIEE with OLTP as well. However real world scenarios pertaining to OLTP makes it difficult for OBIEE to create Star schema from OLTP. Also OBIEE is an engine to perform analytics queries, while in most cases queries generated against OLTP schemas are operational in nature. Better option is to use BI publisher and do away with OBIEE when querying against OLTP.
OBIEE works with any database if you force to do. If you want to follow best practices, its recommended to use with OLAP systems. After all OBIEE is analytics reporting tool and OLAP databases were designed for reporting requirements. So its always advised use the OLAP to get better performance and better analytics from OBIEE.
Bottom line, you can use OLTP with OBIEE but performance will be an issue (not advisable).
