OBIEE installation under HA

Hi,
we want to install obiee under HA (clustering ). for this we have to install database. is database should also be clustered(RAC) and should it is a requirement that it should be on same node on which obiee is being installed.

OBIEE installation drive

Hi all,
Everything was working fine for me till yesterday....
Yesterday i tried to write a java program with the help of following [link to write java application| http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/04/oracle-bi-publisher-101331-creating-applications-using-jdeveloper-11g-and-web-service-soap-apis/]
succesfully created the java application.
But today, when I try to open the reports in BIP I am getting error message given below,for all the reports. Except the last file name in the error message 'xdo_070309_124949014_rtf_out.xsl' is different for each report.
I believe that some config file got edited and bip is searching the required file in different OBIEE installation folder.
OBIEE is installed in C drive and the path C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp\ is very much valid when in the error message it is telling that D:\..\..\... is invalid.
Please help me in the issue.
Error meassage when trying to view any report in BIP.
D:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp\xdo_070309_124949014_rtf_out.xsl (The system cannot find the path specified)

Problelm solved.
i had kept xdodebuf.cfg file in the location D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_03\jre\lib for debug purpose.
the log path in the file was LogDir=D:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp
where it should have been written as LogDir=C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp since OBIEE in my system is installed in C drive.

OBIEE Installation Problem

Hi
I installation process, " *Please Specify a location for a valid JDK Installation*" error is coming. In my system java version 1.6.0_26-b03 is available. I was given the enviroment variable of CLASS_PATH,JAVA_HOME,PATH.
Same path java programm is working fine, but the same path was given in OBIEE installation above said error is coming.
Can you please guide and solve this problem.

You must have a folder like the following : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_11 (Java Development Kit)
If not you can dowload a jdk and install from here :

OBIEE Installation

Goal : TO install OBIEE on Solaris 11 Zone3
Current environment
OS : Oracle Solaris 11
Global Zone
Zone1 - Oracle DB 11g
Zone2 - Weblogic Server
Zone3 - OBIEE Server - to be installed
While installing OBIEE, installation got terminated with DB connectivity error. Tried to install Oracle 11g client and terminated with error message on packages. According to the client installation guide below listed packages are missing in zone 3 and global zone. Please advise the way ahead.

Hi Kam,
First of all it's a pleasure to help! That being said, if you think I've correctly answered all your questions, it'd be great if you'd reward "Correct" and/or "Helpful" points for my participation.
Secondly, after installing the components properly, you will get one development application,although, I'm not sure if it is IDE compliant. There really isn't a true debugger component, however, it does have a compiler that will throw errors and you'll have to do some leg work to figure out what is the root cause and fix it.
The only setup.exe file you should be concerned with is in the Server folder. Ignore the others.

But the installation break with error Message:
Error 5 (Access is denied.) in excution of a "NetServerGetInfo" function, line (233), with parameter (saptranshost, 101).
MOS-01224 Failed to add privileges "NetcbPrivilege SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivile SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege to account ....." ....
FJs-00012 Error when excuting script....
Any experience or help from your side?

Sharing reports across different OBIEE installations

Hello,
Is there a way to import/export reports from/to different OBIEE environments?
We developed a number of Answers reports, and would love to share them with our counterparts who have their own OBIEE installations. The problem is that our environments differ and our repositories differ as well (.rpd file). Some of us are running Windows, others are running Linux; some use Oracle, others SQL Server, or even Microsoft Access.
We tried copying the xml and corresponding .atr files from the catalog in one environment to the catalog in the other, but we quickly found out that the reports fail due to different configurations (missing tables, unknown users, problems with permissions, etc.)
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I am replying to my own original post now. You are right, I was asking for the impossible -- it was late on Friday, and I must have been really tired when I submitted my original post.
The problem I needed to solve was this. Someone gave me Microsoft Access database, the .rpd file and the .xml and .atr files for the Answers reports. My job was to make those reports run in my environment, which is Oracle on Linux. I have finally made it work, but I did have to make changes in the .rpd and add a TNS entry before this started to work. Since there was a change in the physical layer, I had to recreate the BM layer to generate the correct mappings. Then I was able to simply copy and paste the presentation layer from the .rpd that was given to me.

Seperate OBIEE installation and Weblogic Installation

Hi,
Our requirement is to setup the HA system in the Production for the OBIEE. We have Admin server as active-passive on the 2 OBIEE instances.
We trying to setup the high availability of the Admin server as per the Oracle Enterprise Deployment guide. If I setup that and manually failover the Admin server the user cannot login if the Admin server is migrated to second application server.
So our next option is to install the weblogic on the NAS shared storage and scale out the OBIEE components on the 2nd Application server so that Active-Passive Admin server can access the same settings on the shared storage. So the question is it possible to separate the weblogic and OBIEE installation directories separately in order to achieve high availability.

The URL will be exactly the same as a Windows installation but will have your Unix server name. You will need to learn how to start and stop the OBIEE services and OC4J in Unix. This is pretty well documented on the Infrastructure Installation and Configuration Guide.

Basic or Advanced OBIEE installation

We are trying to installed Advanced OBIEE question: Are we able to use the Web logic Server instead of the Oracle Application Server to perform the Advanced Installation type for OBIEE. We are using Weblogic 10.3, OBIEE 10.1.3.4
During a i am getting this message
■ You are evaluating the Oracle Business Intelligence product.
■ The Web Server is a J2EE Application Server other than Oracle Application Server.
■ Choose the Advanced Installation type when deploying Oracle BI with Oracle Application Server
If you plan to perform an Advanced Installation, Oracle Application Server (version 10.1.3.1.0 or
later) must be installed before you run the Oracle Business Intelligence installer.
Lastly, what is the difference between basic and advanced installation.

Hi,
I think you need to go ahead with Basic installation(which has OC4j as application server). Now after your OBIEE installation is complete you need to install right version of Weblogic and deploy the analyitcs.war file and BI publisher war file (if needed) so that applications would be created on you application server. Once this is done you are good to use OBIEE which would be running on weblogic server as an application listening on the port you configured.

CAPS Installation under root or a user

Does anybody now wether the CAPS Installation under UNIX can be done under a normal user or must it be root ?

Chris is correct. Installing and running the software does not require root privileges unless you are using ports <1024 or needing to set up the rc scripts for automatically starting/stopping the software a boot/shutdown time.

Need urgently help for OBIEE Installation (11g)

The Installation Wizard hangs on the step: Domain Configuration (0%). The Creating Domain shows In progress.

Can I install the OBIEE 10g version?I am not sure but i think OBIEE is not certified with windows 7. i could not find any MOS doc confirming same. Please log a call with oracle to confirm this.
would it work fine with the Oracle Database 11g and the RCUs?. Yes OBIEE 10g will work with oracle database 11g.

OBI vs OBIEE installation time and components

Hello Guys
I installed OBI Standard Edition 1 and OBIEE and wondered why on earth
the OBI Standard Edition 1 installation takes so much longer than OBIEE.
I noticed that OBI Standard Edition installs:
Oracle Warehouse Builder
Oracle BISE1 Seed Database
Oracle 10g Products 10.2.0.1.0
Why do I need all that and why does it not seem to be in the OBIEE edition.
In the OBI Standard Edition documentation it says that
Oracle 10g is REQUIRED as a target database but MS SQL can be used as a source.
What is meant by "target database" and why is that not a requirement for OBIEE ??

because OBISE1 installs exactly the same BI software as OBIEE (you are just not allowed to use some of it under your OBISE1 licence such as Delivers)
plus it then also installs and creates a database plus Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) Core ETL.

OBISE1 is designed as a "one size fits all" complete "out-of-the" box solution for SME's with 5-50 users. So it is bundled with a database . OBIEE is for enterprises with 50+ users. OBIEE is designed to be part of a solution where the customer does a "pick and mix" from a whole range of different products to find a solution to meet their specific requirements.

The target database is your datawarehouse into which you load data extracted from one or more source systems - your source systems can be any SQL compliant database or even flat files such as XML and Spreadsheets. So you are bringing information together from multiple systems and platforms and transforming it inot a unified and consistent view of your business.
OBISE1 licence is restricted; It may only be used on servers that have the ability to run a maximum of 2 sockets. You are not allowed to use OBI features such as Delivers, Web Services, MS Office plug-ins to Excel and Poweroint etc. Oracle Containers for J2EE are provided for deployment of Business Intelligence only. The Oracle Database is provided strictly for storing Business Intelligence Metadata. Storing any other data requires a full use license of the Oracle Database. The data sources are limited to the included Oracle Standard Edition One, one other database, and any number of flat file sources such as CSV. You may use Oracle Warehouse Builder Core ETL to pull data from any number of data sources but you must use only the included Oracle Standard Edition One as the target database. OBIEE licence is less restrictive; you can use it on top of any flavor of warehouse or even directly on top of any number of source systems without any warehouse or ETL or some mixture of both.

Feedback on XP Pro (guest OS) installation under VMware 5.5 on Linux host.

I successfully installed 10g XE on XP Pro (32 bit - with service pack 2 ) guest OS under Linux host (RedHat 4.0 ES - update 2).
The initial attempt was unsuccessful because of the MS Antivirus program (as some suggested on this forum). I then shutdown the listener service from command line, cleaned the registry for oracle entries (oci.dll was used by some application - I found it was Microsoft Transaction Server), then removed the oracleXE directory , set the oracle listener service to manual start (in services window), and then rebooted the machine. When logged back in, verified that the listener was not up, stopped the antivirus program and then reinstalled 10g XE. This time the installation was successful.
Realized the sys and system password is the same and by using the sql command tool as sys, you can create new tablespaces, new users, etc. (I could not find any other way to create a new tablespace or adding a new datafile to the existing users tablespace , from within the html_db based administration tool. I am a DBA, so I used the command line from the "Run SQL command line" icon (link). It displayed the SQL> prompt and then I connected as sysdba.
Next week, I will try installing 10g XE, on a Linux virtual machine (guest) running on XP 64 bit host. I will update this posting then...

I will just create a simple document for our end users explaining and including related sql scripts - or better yet - I will configure, install XE on Linux to a specific directory and then do a cold backup - make a bzipped tar file to distribute to the customer (I know this type of distribution/installation is not supported but it is working and tested with Forms 6i c/s runtime with proper patchset). This is why I will support the XE Linux version only - you don't have to deal with the "registry".
For our application XE will serve real well - for a simple scenario creation, they can use XE and Forms 6i C/S runtime on Linux. If they want to use our real time game support which will populate the data in close-to-real time and uses iAS EE forms services, then they need the install standard edition.
I will update with Linux VMware virtual machine installation feedback as soon as I finish installing.

OBIEE installation on Windows 7 64-bit OS

Hi All,
I want to install Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.4.0 on Windows 7 64-bit OS can you suggest me things that i have to consider in this,
like :-
a) JDK 32/64 bit.
b) ODBC drivers for Oracle 32/64 bit.
any other driver or special consideration which I need on 64-bit OS.
I am curious about it and im going to install it on this weekend.

Error at step 14 of 15 obiee installation

I have installed obiee 11.1.1.7 and get a problem at configuring bi domain step, and the error is :
FAILED_TO_APPLY_CHANGES
Detail Message: Timeout; Waiting for all managed servers to push configuration changes; [180 secs]; bi_server1
is there anything I had to configure?

I read the Complete thread of ur error.
ECC 6.0 sujjests to go with up to jdk 1.4_12 version
If ur GUI disappears, U can call the Task Manager by pressing CtrlAltDelete
then there U can see the Installation Process in Application Tab,Right Click on the Process & Maximize
I hope this will resolve ur GUI disappearing Problem
For the Error in Importing the 14th ABAP Job
Press Ok in the Popup appears & this'll stop the Installation Process.
After stopping the Installation.
Go to Run->put services.msc -> there U stop the Oracle Services in the Automatic mode
then Restart ur system
login to ur system as sidadm (sid = System ID .for Eg: DEV is the system ID u've used in Installation)
& the password u have given at the time of Installation.
then go to cmd prompt again->type sqlplus "/as sysdba" or sydba
then u'll b inside SQL> type start
Go to another Cmd prompt->put services.msc -> type lsnrctl
Go to Run->put services.msc -> there U can see the status of the Oracle Service
Right Click on Oracle10ListenerCtrl -> start it.
then by pressing Ctrl+C u'll b able to come out of SQL & Listener Ctrl.
type EXIT to come out of the cmd prompt.
then Start the Installation Again & Continue with the Previous Installation.
Then the Installation'll finish Successfully after few hours.
I hope this'll sure resolve ur Problem.
