OBIEE installation wtih weblogic

I am plaining to install OBIEE on 4 IBM blade servers.
Weblogic(with clustering) is already installed.
I am getting confused that shall I install OBIEE on all 4 servers and then do the configuration in files as written in oracle docs or shall I use Weblogic manager and install only on primary node and oracle installer will take care of other nodes.

The first option.

  • Seperate OBIEE installation and Weblogic Installation

    Hi,
Our requirement is to setup the HA system in the Production for the OBIEE. We have Admin server as active-passive on the 2 OBIEE instances.
We trying to setup the high availability of the Admin server as per the Oracle Enterprise Deployment guide. If I setup that and manually failover the Admin server the user cannot login if the Admin server is migrated to second application server.
So our next option is to install the weblogic on the NAS shared storage and scale out the OBIEE components on the 2nd Application server so that Active-Passive Admin server can access the same settings on the shared storage. So the question is it possible to separate the weblogic and OBIEE installation directories separately in order to achieve high availability.
    Thanks:
    Apurv.

The URL will be exactly the same as a Windows installation but will have your Unix server name. You will need to learn how to start and stop the OBIEE services and OC4J in Unix. This is pretty well documented on the Infrastructure Installation and Configuration Guide.

    Hi Kam,
First of all it's a pleasure to help! That being said, if you think I've correctly answered all your questions, it'd be great if you'd reward "Correct" and/or "Helpful" points for my participation.
Secondly, after installing the components properly, you will get one development application, although, I'm not sure if it is IDE compliant. There really isn't a true debugger component, however, it does have a compiler that will throw errors and you'll have to do some leg work to figure out what is the root cause and fix it.
The only setup.exe file you should be concerned with is in the Server folder. Ignore the others.
    Good luck!

  • Basic or Advanced OBIEE installation

We are trying to installed Advanced OBIEE question: Are we able to use the Web logic Server instead of the Oracle Application Server to perform the Advanced Installation type for OBIEE. We are using Weblogic 10.3, OBIEE 10.1.3.4
During a i am getting this message
    ■ You are evaluating the Oracle Business Intelligence product.
    ■ The Web Server is a J2EE Application Server other than Oracle Application Server.
    ■ Choose the Advanced Installation type when deploying Oracle BI with Oracle Application Server
If you plan to perform an Advanced Installation, Oracle Application Server (version 10.1.3.1.0 or
later) must be installed before you run the Oracle Business Intelligence installer.
Lastly, what is the difference between basic and advanced installation.

    Hi,
I think you need to go ahead with Basic installation(which has OC4j as application server). Now after your OBIEE installation is complete you need to install right version of Weblogic and deploy the analyitcs.war file and BI publisher war file (if needed) so that applications would be created on you application server. Once this is done you are good to use OBIEE which would be running on weblogic server as an application listening on the port you configured.
    Hope this helps

  • Images in dashboard after deploying obiee 10g in weblogic server

    Hi,
We have deployed OBIEE 10g in weblogic server at the location E:\BIDEP
Initially for OC4j server we placed the images in two places:
    +1. E:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\images+
    +2. E:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\images+
and called the image in dashoard by Link or Image fmap:images/india.jpg We were able to disply images indashoard.
After deploying, we also placed the images in
+3. E:\BIDEP\res\s_oracle10\images+ (E:\BIDEP\ is the folder where we deployed obiee.)
Now we are unble to view the images in dashoard.
Please let us kow how to do this.
    Thanks.

    Hi MK,
    Thanks. It worked.
One clarification. for OC4j Server I placed images in below:
    1. E:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\images
    2. E:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\images
For WLServer is it enough to place the images in below places:
    1.E:\BIDEP\res\s_oracle10\images
    2.E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\servers\BI2\stage\BIDEP\BIDEP\res
or I also need to place the images in below place also.
    1. E:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\images
    In simple, at two places
    1.E:\BIDEP\res\s_oracle10\images
    2.E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\servers\BI2\stage\BIDEP\BIDEP\res
    or at 3 places
    1.E:\BIDEP\res\s_oracle10\images
    2.E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\servers\BI2\stage\BIDEP\BIDEP\res
    3.E:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\images
    Thanks.

  • OBIEE installation drive

    Hi all,
Everything was working fine for me till yesterday....
Yesterday i tried to write a java program with the help of following [link to write java application| http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/04/oracle-bi-publisher-101331-creating-applications-using-jdeveloper-11g-and-web-service-soap-apis/]
    succesfully created the java application.
But today, when I try to open the reports in BIP I am getting error message given below, for all the reports. Except the last file name in the error message 'xdo_070309_124949014_rtf_out.xsl' is different for each report.
I believe that some config file got edited and bip is searching the required file in different OBIEE installation folder.
OBIEE is installed in C drive and the path C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp\ is very much valid when in the error message it is telling that D:\..\..\... is invalid.
Please help me in the issue.
Error meassage when trying to view any report in BIP.
D:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp\xdo_070309_124949014_rtf_out.xsl (The system cannot find the path specified)

    Problelm solved.
i had kept xdodebuf.cfg file in the location D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_03\jre\lib for debug purpose.
the log path in the file was LogDir=D:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp
where it should have been written as LogDir=C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\xmlpserver\xmlpserver\xdo\tmp since OBIEE in my system is installed in C drive.
    Thanks

  • Sharing reports across different OBIEE installations

    Hello,
Is there a way to import/export reports from/to different OBIEE environments?
We developed a number of Answers reports, and would love to share them with our counterparts who have their own OBIEE installations. The problem is that our environments differ and our repositories differ as well (.rpd file). Some of us are running Windows, others are running Linux; some use Oracle, others SQL Server, or even Microsoft Access.
We tried copying the xml and corresponding .atr files from the catalog in one environment to the catalog in the other, but we quickly found out that the reports fail due to different configurations (missing tables, unknown users, problems with permissions, etc.)
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
I am replying to my own original post now. You are right, I was asking for the impossible -- it was late on Friday, and I must have been really tired when I submitted my original post.
The problem I needed to solve was this. Someone gave me Microsoft Access database, the .rpd file and the .xml and .atr files for the Answers reports. My job was to make those reports run in my environment, which is Oracle on Linux. I have finally made it work, but I did have to make changes in the .rpd and add a TNS entry before this started to work. Since there was a change in the physical layer, I had to recreate the BM layer to generate the correct mappings. Then I was able to simply copy and paste the presentation layer from the .rpd that was given to me.
Again, thank you very much for your response.

  • OBIEE 11g and Weblogic on different Servers - Windows 2008 R2

    Hi
Can we install OBIEE 11g(BI Server and Presentation Servers) on one server and weblogic and another server. We have a requirement where we need to differentiate all the components on to its own server for performance reasons. How can we do the configurations if we have installed on how to talk to weblogic after the installations.
    Thanks

    Yes we can do that
    a) Install BIS and BIPS on one server and deploy BIPS plug-in on Weblogic server where it is installed,so the both will talk with the weblogic server.

  • OBIEE hosting on WebLogic - Admin Server vs. Managed Server

What is the difference between the two possible configurations of WebLogic: Admin Server and Managed Server?
I need to identify which one is adequate to host OBIEE Presentation Services.

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/e13716/understand_domains.htm#DOMCF115
    What Is a Domain?
+An Oracle WebLogic Server administration domain is a logically related group of Oracle WebLogic Server resources. Domains include a special Oracle WebLogic Server instance called the Administration Server, which is the central point from which you configure and manage all resources in the domain. Usually, you configure a domain to include additional Oracle WebLogic Server instances called Managed Servers. You deploy Web applications, EJBs, Web Services, and other resources onto the Managed Servers and use the Administration Server for configuration and management purposes only.+
I added the emphasis on "usually". You will always have exactly one administration server for a domain. That administration server can host other applications, it's simply a question of whether or not it's a good idea to do it. If you need to scale-up your application at a later time so that more than one server would be required - deploying your application to managed servers makes this very easy as you can just add managed servers. Typically other Oracle products in Fusion Middleware have domain templates and other installer / configuration options that default to deploying their infrastructure to managed servers. Sometimes in development / resource-constrained environments people override those defaults and try and run everything on a single Admin Server. It's usually possible, but may not be the most flexible going forward.

  • Hi dude help me on OBIEE installation tried all possible ways

    Hi,
recentiy i have format my laptop and tried to install OBIEE 11g at the very begin Oracle db11g and RCU has installed successfully.
When i started to installed the OBIEE from step 1 to 12 are gone fine,at the step 13 copying files is not happening i waited more than one hour for this and i have cancel it too.
    Solution i tried is:
After searching through the internet i have gone through the some solution but its not working.
    1. changed enviroment variable TMP,TEMP, to my hard disk space.
    2. installed latest JDK 1.7.
    3. tried in different hard disk for the installation , not working
    Kindly give me some solution.

These are the steps I used to install:
Use the following steps to install OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on Windows 7 64 bit:
Download and install the Oracle JRockit JDK.
You MUST install to a file path WITHOUT SPACES. I recommend "C:Java". DO NOT USE C:Program Files
Create a JAVA_HOME environment variable if it does not exist and set it to the JRockit install path
Add the JAVA_HOME path to the PATH environment variable.
Verify your install by running the command "java -version" in a command prompt. You should see information related to your JRockit install.
    Download and install Weblogic 10.3.5
From Oracle's website, download the 10.3.5 version for 64 bit platforms. The file should be named wls1035_generic.jar
Install by running the command "java -D64 -jar wls1035_generic.jar" in a command prompt in the same directory of wls1035_generic.jar
Download and install Oracle Patch 12564602
Be sure to download the patch for version 10.3.5 of Weblogic. The patch should contain 3N24.jar
Copy 3N24.jar and the patch_catalog.xml file to "C:\Oracle\Middleware\utils\bsu\cache_dir"
Navigate to "C:\Oracle\Middleware\utils\bsu" in a command prompt
    Run the command "bsu.cmd -patchlist=3N24 -patch_download_dir=C:\Oracle\Middleware\utils\bsu\cache_dir -prod_dir=C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3 -install -verbose"
    Download and install OBIEE 11.1.1.5
When you run the installer, you must select the "Software Only" install option in the beginning
This install should be straightforward, just follow the prompts after select "Software Only"
Manually configure the Software Only install
Run the file "config.bat" at the location "C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bin" (this location may change depending on where you selected your Middleware Home to be

  • Installation of Weblogic 10.3.2.0 fails

I got "Fatal error has occured. The application will terminate" in the middle of installation. I am trying to install weblogic on Solaris Sparc 5.10 (64bit) using 64-bit JVM. I came across another posting that suggested to specify -Xmx1024m to avoid "java heap space". I did try that option, i don't see heap space error in logs though. I tried "java -d64 -Xmx1024m -jar net_wls1032_generic.jar -log=$HOME/wls_install.log -log_priority=debug" from command prompt. System has both 32 and 64 bit java installed already. Please advise. I resolved it by cleaning up files and directories under /var/tmp where weblogic keeps archive files as part of the installation process. when error occurs during the installation, it tries to clean up all the files in tmp directory. I think for some reason some of those files didn't get cleaned up properly.

  • Fatal Error during Installation of Weblogic Application Server 11g (10.3.4)

    Hi,
I have installed Weblogic server 10.3.4 in the first attempt but when I was deploying an ear, Server gets crashed (JDK was crashed) and after that I was unable to start the server because it was giving an error for JDK.
Then I uninstalled existing Weblogic server and tried installing server (same version using same setup) once again but it is not allowing. It is asking me for directory (WLS Home Directory), Complete/Custom and when installing finally, it is flagging an error (when 39% installation is complete) "Fatal Error encountered during file installation, the installer will now cleanup and exit! C:\<Home Directory>\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\consol.exe (Access is denied)".
Can any one please help me in resolving this error. Thanks in advance

    Hello,
You need to check the permissions on the middleware home directory.  Give permissions and then try to install weblogic server, it will work.
Are you trying to do first time weblogic server installations.  If you have already domain created then from there also you can create a seperate domain
