OBIEE Licensing

OBIEE - we have done nothing more than install OBIEE 11.1.1.7 OBIEE 11g.
I am new to OBIEE.
How could I prove that we have not connected this OBIEE installation to any other databases. in this case we will be working with an Oracle EBS R12.2.4 Instance?
As demonstrated below we have no configured RPD files, no NQSConfig.INI

If our OBIEE system was configured to access a production system we would also have an instanceconfig.xml file in the below directory.
From the screen output below we have no instance configuration file.

You are checking the wrong directory. The instanceconfig.xml will be in here \Middleware\instances\instance1\config\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1
and nqsconfig.ini will be in here Middleware\instances\instance1\config\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1
But what is that your are trying to prove here. When you say about licensing? Do you want to prove Oracle that you bought license from them, and did the install of OBIEE and now you want a refund for not using OBIEE at all even after install?
As its not clear from your subject and body its hard to say/suggest as what you are trying to prove/establish

Hello, I was installing OBIEE 10.1.3.4 within a Solaris environment. When I ran the setup.sh script I got the following error after I select 1 to proceed to next step. Please read error message below.

The license file does not match it's signature. Please contact Siebel technical support.

Go through the Doc id 1067138.1 at Metalink below is the extract.
The following procedure must be done by a UNIX administrator or by an Oracle BI Administrator with sufficient privileges.
To download Oracle BI installation files under UNIX:
   1. Log in as the user who is to run the Oracle BI processes.
   2. Insert the Oracle Business Intelligence infrastructure installation DVD.
   3. Change to the directory where the installation DVD is mounted (or change directory to the downloaded software).
   4. Download the Oracle BI files by using FTP to copy them to the desired server and directory.
      Note: Make sure to FTP all the files in binary mode, including license.xml.
   5. After the files are downloaded, check that the files in the top level directory, such as setup.sh, have execute permissions.
      execute the command: ls -la or ls -ltr
      Confirm that the files have permissions resembling these:

Oracle BI Apps License

Dear all,
I need to confirm , if We purchase Human Resource Analytics , Procurement & Spend Analytics and Financials Analytics License (which is per User) , then is the OBIEE platform included in that License ??
Breaking it down , Is it required to purchase OBIEE license separately with BI Analytics License ?
Any heads up would be great.

As the other user mentioned, you need to check w the sales rep...but few things to note:
1. Various versions of OBIA have different certifications w OBIEE. So if you have a need for specific version, then you need to ensure OBIA is certified with that version.
2. Part of licensing normally is based on CPU or User base..and this may impact the cost/licensing. Suppose you have 1000 users versus 20, this is something that can have an impact in terms of licensing.

License for Oracle business intelligence EE

I'd like to know how many OBIEE user licenses(NUP) do I have to get following our server environment. We'll have 50 real OBIEE users on this system.
We're gonna have three web servers(IIS) and one new server for OBIEE. Actually I'd like to run OBIEE with http server on a server, but our web system security policy point of view, I have to separate http server functions from an OBIEE server physically. I understand if OBIEE program will be working on a server with http server functions, it enough to get minimum OBIEE user licenses(50NUP) for using it.
My question is if I'll separate some http server functions from the OBIEE server, do I have to purchase additional OBIEE licenses for the http servers? I know that if I'll separate the functions from the OBIEE server, I have to put some ISAPI components for OBIEE on the IIS servers for connecting to the OBIEE server.

As far as I know, if you separate the HTTP server away from the BI Server you do not need additional licenses. I believe this is only a configuration issue. However, you should ask your Oracle sales rep as they will have the most up to date information.
I have a feeling that the named user minimum is per processor so you'll have to work out how many processors there will be in the final environment and multiply 50 by $1500 (the cost of a single user) by the number of CPUs.
Thus, if you end up with a 4 CPU machine, or 2 x 2 CPU machines, the cost will be 4 x 1500 x 50 = $300,000. The same on a processor based license would be $900,000 (4 x $225,000), so until you have 150 users or more you will be better off going down the NUP route..

Hello Everyone,
I have been using OBIEE 11g from last 4 years but this is very first time I am going to use and configure OBIEE Maps in our environment.
We are using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.141014 version and planning to add OBIEE MAps for US, Canada and Brazail countries.
I need to know which sample data I should use and covered in OBIEE license?is it MVDEMO or NAVTEQ? What's difference between them and which one is better?
From where I can download it?

It's the OBIEE_NAVTEQ_Sample dataset that is included in SampleApp. An older standalone copy of that dataset is available from the Archives section of the obiee sample app page on OTN.
Or export it from SampleApp and import it.

Essbase Connection

We know that OBIEE dose support but how about OBISE One.

In order to be able to connect to Essbase, you must upgrade the BI server to a higher version.

Licensing Information in OBIEE

Hi,
Can some one tell me as what are the limitations for licensing in OBIEE?
Since there will be SSO authentication which will be maintained different by some authenticating server, what will be the exact control over users and groups in terms of OBIEE administration? Also, is row level security enabled?how to check it is enabled or not

OBIEE queries related to licensing

1 . Is there any restriction on number of users sessions. i.e how many users can simultaneously access application from their browser. http://localhost:7001/analytics/saw.dll?bieehome
2. In enterprise edition is user allowed to do some customization in OBIEE code. fo.r eg. I want to add a button in the UI of OBIEE anaylsis home page.

1. I think there is no restriction on the number of user sessions (Login in to OBIEE) but there is a restriction on how many user's can concurrently access reports/dashboard (Number of DB connection can be created), this can be found in Connection Pool -> Number of connections.
2. Yes, OBIEE does permit customization like adding a customize button on the UI. For example, we can use below code for creating a custom button which resets the prompt value selected on the dashboard;

What's wrong in OBIEE 11g

Everyone is saying how good OBIEE 11g is so I decided to post about what's bad with it, which surprisingly it's lot. This is what I think is wrong with OBIEE 11g:
1) Can't install the client tools only, it requires a full install. It seems they have simplified the installation in 11g but only for developers/sales reps running everything on the same machine on Windows PC. The Client tools even requires new set of schema, nonsense!
2) The "super" new installer that allegedly does everything and simplifies your life does not create the time dimension tables for the Usage Tracking reports.
3) BI Publisher still uses a separate Scheduler. Half-baked integration still there...
4) OEM introduced functionality to configure things from the web but again half-baked integration there, a lot of config parameters still need done directly on config files. If you are going to change this better to change all at one go rather than confusing people with half-done things.
5) Installer requires new schemas to be created in advance. Can't deffer that, can't use an existing schema. This is good for developers running everything on the same machine. Rubbish for enterprises where BI developers are usually not DBAs.
6) Oracle installer now requires a myriad of permissions and packages on Unix to install (i.e. write permissions on /opt/app/oracle). 10g installer was much better and didn't need all that crap.
7) 64 bits OSes only support "Software only" installs, need to be configured manually. WTF? The whole enterprise world is already on 64bits! Nonsense!
8) Still no support for client tools in 64bits OSes.
9) IE6 no longer supported. May be it was unavoidable but most of the enterprise is still in IE6.
10) No choice of J2EE. I don't see the need to force people out of the their choice of J2EE other than pure anti-competitive behaviour.
11) License costs up 130%.
IMHO the above is a big step back, Oracle is missing the point here. Obviously not enough competition on the BI market, Oracle's got too big and too greedy.

Error assigning users to application Role in Obiee 11.1.1.7.0

I installed Obiee 11.1.1.7.0 both on Windows and Linux platform and after that, I successfully set Active Directory integration. I have a problem assigning users to Application Role in EM. When I'm trying to search a user on Display name, the Principal userName returned is blank and the error is : Java Null Pointer Exception
After that I install a fresh copy of 11.1.6.0. After AD Integration, I was able to assign users to Application Role. I made 11.1.1.7.0 upgrade and same error has come. I think this is a bug because same AD settings on 11.1.1.6.0 works.

We received from Oracle a work-around of this problem.
It seems to be related to the virtualize flag set to true. I f you set it to false the problem disappear (it works for me).

There's an open BUG on this problem: Bug 16808088 - 11G JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION ADDING USER TO ROLE AFTER UPGRADE TO 11.1.1.7.

Implementing SSO in OBIEE 11g

Hi All,
We have a requirement to implement custom SSO with OBIEE 11g.
Is configuration of SSO in OBIEE 11g similar to that of OBIEE 10.1.3 ? (10g steps mentioned below)
1. Changing Instanceconfig.xml
2. Adding a user “Impersonate ” in Repository
3. Adding Impersonate user Credentials to Credential Store using cryptotools
4. Add Credential Store information to Instanceconfig .xml file
Are there any additional configurations required to be related to weblogic integration with OBI?

What sort of SSO setup are you looking to implement? The security model in 11g is much more complex and unfortunatelly it's all in Weblogic. I don't think that was a good idea but Oracle it's obviously pushing to use all of its products into OBIEE.
On the positive side OBIEE 11g now supports configuring authentication and SSO with Active Directory and Windows Native Authentication using Kerberos (the next generation authentication protocol after NTLM). This SSO solution is sometimes called "silent SSO" as does not require domain authenticated users to login to OBIEE and it's completely transparent. In view it's the "real and proper" SSO solution as it's server side and it's unspoofable. Oracle Support Note ID 1274953.1 provides guidance on how to do that. The configuration process is complex but it provides a way to use Windows Native Authentication out-of-the-box in OBIEE 11g without having to rely on custom/3er party components or any additional license costs.

OBIEE 11.1.1.6 Install Issue

Hi,
I am installing Obiee 11.1.1.6 for a company. Initially thought of going with and "Enterprise Install" so that I will have the option to scale out the system at a later stage if needed. But my installation fails everytime. Below are the things happened to me till now -
1) Tried installing it from the path \bishiphome\Disk1\install\win64\setup.exe as my machine is a 64 bit one. But this installation fails with permgen error. Tried a lot of options to after increasing the heap size and all but it didn't work. Hence I tried the installer from the path \bishiphome\Disk1\setup.exe (which is kind of a universal installer). This installation worked successfully for me and I have been able to work on this environment for 2 weeks now. We did the ldap authentication which works fine here. We created new charts and stuff which works here. But today when I created MUD setup, I noticed that there is no option called "Merge Local changes".
2) I created an SR with Oracle just to confirm if the universal installer is correct. They doesn't confirm it and infact they ask me if it is working correctly for me. Hence I am in a state of dilemma and worried about my QA and production installation. We need to go live in next couple of weeks and I am stuck with installation. Here are my options -
Simple Install - I can do this and this will work fine but is it ok to do this in QA and Prod env's? How many users does this install support? For me, its aorund 150 users and if it supports them then I can go for this.
Enterprise Install - Correct install (win64) is not working.
Software Only Install - I can do this but I am not sure if we have a valid license for the Weblogic Server. I don't have a direct contact over here and so not sure how I can find out this.
Please suggest how I should proceed here. Can I go with a simple install which is kind of the only option in front of me now? :-(
