OBIEE, OBIA on Linux

I am new to OBI and hence need advice on the architecture:
I have 2 solutions: I have 3 Linux servers for the OBIEE + OBIA installation: All linux servers are 2 CPU, 8GB VMs. Which solution is better?
Solution A:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository
Server 2: for Infomratica + DAC Servers
Server 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA
On Windows 7 desktop, I will install Informatica + DAC Client.
Solution B:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository. Also Informatica + DAC Servers
Server 2 & 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA

It depends of your needs.
What I can say is that you need minimum a windows machine if you check the typical topologie.

  • Starting OBIEE 11g on Linux 64 bit

    Hi,
I installed OBIEE 11g on Linux 64 bit and it worked fine after installation. I rebooted the system and I need to start it again.
    I am trying to run
    run-sa.sh
    run-saw.sh
    etc.
but it looks like the scripts are broken:
./run-saw.sh: line 43: syntax error near unexpected token `('
    ./run-saw.sh: line 43: `ANA_INSTALL_DIR=$N($P(installLocation))'
it looks like these scripts were not processed by the installer during installation, $N($P(installLocation)) should have been replaced by the installer with actual paths I assume.
is there another way to start OBIEE?
    Thanks,
    Calin

Are you sure you are running OBIEE 11g? YOu are meant to use those scripts any more in 11g. See this post:

    hi EBS experts out there
Please advise the order of installation of these s/w when i am planning to install EBS r12:
EBS R12 ( to integrate w/ OBIEE for vision demo database to be able to perform ETL tasks for R&D )
    OBIEE 10.1.3.4
    OBIA 7.9.6
    Informatica 8.6.1 (w/ hotfix 6)
    DAC 10.1.3.4.1
(Essbase Hyperion installation - I wil shortly try installing essbase 11x post successful installation of the above )
on windows 2003 server 32 bit sp2 that will be running on VMWare 2.0 hosted on windows xp 32 bit.
    RAM: 4GB
HDDs: 200GB + 500 GB (Both IDE Internal SATA) Entire 500GB via virtual hard disk on VMware will be utilized to install this Oracle BI stack of apps and if possible install Hyperrion Essbase stuff also.

    Hi,
RAM: 4GBI would suggest you increase the amount of memory on this box as 4 GB should be sufficient for Oracle E-Business Suite R12 installation only. So, with the remaining products, I would say you need more RAM -- I understand that running on 32-bit OS will not allow you to have more memory so you may need to consider installing another OS or having more than one virtual machine.

the required version ov VC++ required for EBS R12 win-32 install. Since you will be installing Oracle Apps R12 on singe node, you will have to have a Standard or Professional editions of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005/2008 Redistributable Package can be installed on the database tier node only if you have multi-node installation and you already have Standard or Professional editions of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 installed on the application tier node(s).

  • Peoplesoft EPM vs OBIEE/OBIA

    Hello,
I am performing a comparision for a customer related to delivered functionality out of OBIEE. Peoplesoft EPM comes delivered with several datamarts but typically the users have to create their own reports and dashboards using a third party tool. However, I have not been able to find any documentation related to the delivered datamarts and/or dashboards/reports that come from OBIEE/OBIA. My background is more in the Peoplesoft EPM arena rather than OBIEE. Could a more experienced OBIEE indivudal provide me with some quidance on this? Thanks in advance!
    Corey

Sure no problem. You can email me directly at [email protected] The client is probably still a few months away. We are workig with the CIO to help him understand the pros and cons of each product. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • How to Save Agent Output in Local Disk in OBIEE 11g on linux

    Hi
    I am using OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2
I want to schedule some reports which will run everyday night and the Output to be saved in my local disk
I read this article http://obiee1000.blogspot.in/2012/01/actions-in-agents-part-1.html ...but this solution is only for windows platform.
i need to implement this on Linux.
    Please help me .
    Thanks.

    Hello Srini,
This article talks the process for Ibots. Is the procedure same for OBIEE 11g agents.
are you sucessful in achiving this . since i have to involve others in implementing this just wanted to be sure this works for OBIE 11g on linux.

  • Requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g on Windows to OBIEE 11g on Linux

    Dear All,
I have a requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g from current windows 2003 environment to OBIEE 11g Linux environment.
I went through forums and many threads on upgrade, everywhere they talk about Upgrade Assistant (UA). And oracle documentation says ,
+"Do not change from one platform or architecture to a different platform or architecture as part of the upgrade process.+
+For example, if the existing 10g system is running on a Windows 32-bit platform, do not install Oracle BI 11g on a Linux 64-bit platform and then run the Linux 64-bit Upgrade Assistant to upgrade the existing 10g system."+
But there would certainly be scenarios with other users the way I have. Then what is the way out to do this upgrade?
Can anyone give some advice on this. It is little urgent.
    Thanking in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika.

Thats are huge change in platform. win32 to linux 64.
Yet what we upgrade is only
    catalog and rpd.
this might involve some manual change if UA cannot complete successfully.
Its better to do a prototype before the actual upgrade as recommended by Oracle. This will show what can the possible issues and road blocks.

  • Adding a XML Data source in Obiee 11g on Linux

Hi guys, I need your help.
I'm creating a new database in the physical layer as XML.
On the connection pool (named xml_source), I’m setting the path to the XML file, inside the datasourse name, with this format: /u01/app/xmltest/
My XML test file is this: xml_test.xml, So in the table information, I’m setting the xml file name as this: xml_test (without the xml extension)
The issue is when I’m trying to issue the SQL, the error message displayed says:
Query Failed: [nQSError: 64023] cannot access /u01/app/xmltest\xml_test.xml: No such file or directory
As you can read in the error message there is a “\” just before the xml file. So in Linux it is not a "\" but a "/", why is obiee setting a wrong path? How can I "tell" obiee that this is a Linux environment not a Windows?
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry for my mistake, but I've found a tab called XML in the Physical Table properties. I've set the entire URL to the file and now I'm able to issue sql queries to it. Thanks!

  • Odbc driver error while OBIEE instal on LINUX tries to access Datawarehouse

    Hi All,
I have installed OBI Apps on a LINUX machine. The ETL too ran successfully. As we can't install BI tool on LINUX I modified the OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd file on a Windows machine and copied it back to the LINUX machine. After modifying the NSQConfig.ini file I could see all the OBI Apps answers and Dashboards ie OBI Apps was installed on LINUX.But whwnever I try to access some data from OLAP i get the following error:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Error Details
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P

SQL Issued: SELECT Time."Year" FROM "Human Resources - Workforce Profile" ORDER BY 1
Probably this is because all the DSN specified in the rpd file were present on the Windows machine.I don't know how to modify these values for LINUX.Please help.Nothing is mentioned in the install docc as far as LINUX installation is concerned.
    regards,
    Soumya.

I think when your BI Server is running on linux, you would use native drivers to connect to your data warehouse database and not ODBC. If your data warehouse is on a oracle db server, change the call interfact in the RPD connection pool to OCI and give the tnsname for the db server connection in the connection pool.

Yes, after successfully unzipping on Windows before, I
knew that I could use Windows as a possible work around.
However. Windows is NTFS. Redhat does not work with it.
So, at least two 20 gig copies would be required.
    To FAT32.
    Then to ext4.
    Each a different file system.
    Check sum errors anyone?
The idea of contacting Oracle was to hopefully
get in contact with the people who originally
    created the zip archive.
If they ran the commands to:
22 gig file -> 11 file archive of 2 gig files
You would think that they would also know how to:
11 file archive of 2 gig files -> 22 gig file
Is anyone in contact with them?
If so, what is the the correct answer?

  • Schedulling an agent in obiee 11g on Linux server

    Hi,
I am trying to schedule an agent on Linux server. I know its possible on windows server, but did anyone try it on Linux, if so please provide instructions on how to do this? Thanks,

    Hi,
How to schedule an agent? just set the when it must run and the frequency in the agent itself.
OBIEE has his own scheduler process, so scheduling an agent on Windows or Linux is the same work, everything happen inside OBIEE.
Of course I assume your OBIEE is installed correctly and all the components are started...

  • Startup Scripts for OBIEE 11g on Linux

Hi, I originally spent many hours trying to find a startup/shutdown script for OBIEE on linux, in the end I compiled a new one based on notes in the install manual and other posts on the subject until I got it working consistantly
Please add comments or improvements :)
Note: you need to create the boot.properties file (in /security) for each server, and provide the username/password so WebLogic won't prompt for it when starting automatically (otherwise it doesn't start :p) ....refer to the install manual or [weblogic boot.properties|http://onlineappsdba.com/index.php/2010/08/21/weblogic-startup-prompting-from-username-password-bootproperties/]

    HI,
Is this script for Enterprise Install on a single computer? For Simple install I think there is no concept of nodemanager and managedserver.

  • Startup/Shutdown script for OBIEE 11g on Linux

    Hi all,
as a follow-up to [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=4546010]an earlier thread by some fine gentleman, I have improved the original startup/shutdown script for Linux a bit, making sure that all processes are handled correctly. The script has been tested and works fine on CentOS 5.5 with Oracle BI 11.1.1.3.0 in a clustered configuration. Instructions:
    Manual start/stop:
    > service obiee start
    > service obiee stop
    > service obiee status
    Automatic start/stop during boot sequence:
    > chkconfig --add obiee
    > chkconfig obiee on
Note that in order for the procedure to go through smoothly, you need to provide the admin credentials (username/password, defaulting to weblogic/weblogic) in three different places:
    1. In configuration file <FMW_HOME>/user_projects/domains/<domain name>/servers/AdminServer/security/boot.properties for the administration server;
    2. In script <FMW_HOME>/user_projects/domains/<domain name>/bin/startManagedWebLogic.sh (variables WLS_USER and WLS_PW) for the managed server;
    3. In the startup script itself (variables BIEE_USER and BIEE_PASSWD) for shutting down the managed server.
Complete logs are available in /var/log/obiee-start (-stop).log files.
    Please comment as necessary,
    Chris

You can use WLST to start/stop BI Services and it works on both Linux and Windows.

  • Multiple OBIEE installations on Linux

Are there any issues or gotchas to installing multiple full OBIEE infrastructures (specifically, OAS 10.1.3.3.0 and OBIEE 10.1.3.4.0) on a RH Linux box? I want to have two separate stacks present, one acting as Dev and one as UAT on the same hardware, if possible. Is this even possible? How adaptive are the various components (OAS, OBIEE) to port selection when the default ports are already in use? And if it can be "done" then should it be done with the second install done within a separate shell account / owner, or can I simply install additional ORACLE_HOMES (and ORACLEBI_HOMEs and ORACLEBIDATA_HOMEs...) under the same shell account?

    Bob,
there're no issues to what you're trying to accomplish - just make sure the port #s are different (bi server and presentation services)...
I'd suggest a different account for simplicity sake - but you should be fine with different homes
Do you have a copy of a deployment guide?
