OBIEE on 64 bit Windows 7 ??  Why harder than Cognos, Qlikview and Tableau?

Hi --- Can you please elaborate this in detail..I am having issues while Installing OBIEE 11g version on 64 bit windows-7..
Can you please provide set by step instructions with screenshots(if possible). I tried all the websites available... but still having issues and it is consuming a lot of time...
I Downloaded...
Version for Java----> and the Path of the Folder is c:\java
java version "1.7.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_10-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.6-b04, mixed mode)
---> Can you please keep us posted of the Environment Variables that we need to take care of on the Windows 7 machines. All the variables related to Temp Folders, Java and Others that were needed.
WebLogic Version Downloaded from OTN:::::_
wls1035_generic
Path of Temp Folder_
c:\Temp.
OBIEE Version Downloaded:::_
bi_windows_x86_111160_64_disk1_1of2 ----> Basically version 11.1.1.1.1.6.0 for Windows 64 bit.
Steps Followed::::
I installed the ofm_rcu_win_11.1.1.6.0_disk1_1of1 ---> Basically the 64 bit version.
Then
Installed the Loopback adapter:::_
---> In the hosts file i had only one line added (rest of the file is commented).
10.10.10.10 computername ---> where computername is the name of the computer.
Installed and Configured the OBIEE_
Installation fine with out errors and i did Software only Installation(the last option)...
While Cofiguring, it stuck up at the first step ... configuring Domain... Tried 10000000 times... and when checked the log file, showing the below message...

I had previously installed Cognos, Tableau and QlikView... by far this is the one that took a very long time, even to download the files , installing and configuring...
Please let me know your thoughts.. Thanks a lot for your time.. please don't refer your individual sites or blogs to follow the installation.. as i already did followed most of them i found after googling... and some of them dont even point to the exact versions they were downloading....

Hi Guys -- Am finally able to install OBIEE11g...
Provided in the link were the pre-requisites that you need to make 100% sure for windows 7 64 bit install.
http://oraclebi.blog.com/obiee-11-1-1-6-installation/
Coming to the Issues I made...
For Enterprise Edition Installation (Option 2 in the graphical user interface installation screen)*
1.) I had "jdk1.7.0_10" installed in "C:\Java" folder.
When trying to install OBIEE 11.1 it install weblogic version "10.3.5" as this is not compatible with "jdk1.7.0_10" had Issues.
For Software Only Install*
1.) I had to download and install "wls1036_generic.jar" from OTN.
You need to make sure that you install it by following the below steps but not just by double clicking it... because it is doing a kind of 32 bit installation when double clicking (yaa that's strange) even though you were expecting an 64 bit.
a.) open command prompt
b.) go to the folder where "java -jar wls1036_generic.jar" was installed
c.) Then run "java -jar wls1036_generic.jar"
Other Issues*
1.) Turn off Windows fire wall during Installation.
2.) Uninstall Antivirus
Not sure about the credibility of the above two points, came across some websites am tired of trying all the options and at one point.. I turned them off and never turned them back on...
Source*:::: Various Websites based on the different errors and mix matching the Info, trying different options to solve an error/Issue.
Hope this is helpful to someone..... I Still say the Installation is not as straight forward as other BI Tools in the market.

In safari, I choose File -> Save As. The save dialogue window is taller than my screen and the buttons get buried under my bottom toolbar. I can't reach the save buttons and I can't seem to reach the right hand corner to manual resize it. I've tried clicking the green button in the top left hand corner but it doesn't change a thing.
thanks to anyone that can clear this up.

I tried clicking the blue export button so its pointing down and the save dialogue window does shrink. However, the adjustable dashes that normally appear in the bottom right hand corner, are not there. The only appear when the export button is pointing up. Too bad I can't reach it.
Your 2nd idea worked! My display was already at max resolution BUT I had a 2nd monitor and dragged the save box over and the smaller display was enough to reach that bottom corner.
    yeah!

  • OBIEE 11G 64-Bit Windows LDAP Admin Server Startup Issue

    All,
I have OBIEE 11G installed on 64-bit Windows, and can see all my LDAP users inside Admin Console just fine. When I reorder my LDAP above the DefaultAuthenticator, and make them both 'SUFFICIENT', my Admin Server no longer starts. It hangs on a line in the AdminServer.log that roughly says '<Security initializing using security realm myrealm.>'. Has anyone ran into this? If so, how do you get the Admin Server to start with a non default LDAP authenticator? I've tried re-ordering numerous ways with the DefaultIdentityAsserter in the middle and at the bottom; I've also tried switching the Control Flags on both with REQUIRED and OPTIONAL, all to no avail. Finally, I tried deleting out the DefaultAuthenticator all together, and it still won't start. At this point, I'm assuming this is another 64-bit issue that was not tested properly. Any thoughts/help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Josh

    Paul,
Unfortunately that made no difference. I have pasted in the startup log below. Perhaps someone has some insight into what's happening?

  • VBAI: 32 or 64 bit Windows 7, More than 4 GB?

I am designing a machine vision system with 16 GigE cameras that will be running on a dedicated PC.
About 50 megabyes of images will be processed in each 4-second machine cycle, although all of the inspections will happen at approximately the same moment.  None of the cameras will be running continuously or at high frame rates.
It is my understanding that VBAI is a 32 bit application and therefore cannot used more than 2GB of memory.  I have also noticed that the VBAI process for a smaller vision system with only 3 cameras used less than 500 MB of memory (Windows Task Manager - Private Working Set).
Which would be preferred?  A 32 or a 64 bit version of Windows 7?  I understand that VBAI originally only ran under 32 bit Windows 7.
Also, would there be a real benifit to more than 4 GB of main memory, such as for the high-performance network adapter?

    I also received this reply:
    Hi Nelson,
It sounds like you are setting things up correctly - I spoke with one of my colleagues about this and we agreed that GigE is the right way to go for your purposes. VBAI is indeed a 32 bit application, but with a 64-bit operating system it will have access to up to 4GB of memory.  For this reason I recommend Windows 64-bit, if it doesn't make a difference otherwise.  I don't think you will need that much memory since you're only collecting 50MB of images at a time, but it doesn't hurt to have the extra bandwidth available if necessary in the future.  The only way I could see this becoming an issue is if you need to run these cameras continuously in the future.
As for having more than 4GB of main memory, as you said, VBAI won't use too much of it, so I don't think there's an issue there.  I'm not sure about the high-performance network adaptor, but I will say that my experience with GigE adaptors has never yielded large memory draws. It seems like you have thought this through and I think that this setup with 64-bit Windows 7 will serve your purposes well without memory issues.

Sounds like 64 bit Windows is the way to go!

  • 32-bit Windows Error: 38: Filename too long and NOD32

I had Vist32 and Oracle 10.2.0.1 running with no problems.
    Then I have installed NOD32 3.0.624.
After that I could not start listener.
    Started with pid=2868

    TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
32-bit Windows Error: 38: Filename too longThen I have disabled NOD (services and egui exe) and restart PC. Still have a problem with listener.
I'm 100% sure that NOD is the problem because just before installing the NOD all was running in a perfect order!
Any info how to overcome that (without removing NOD, because I'd like to have it on my PC) and have Oracle working...
Just to show that all seems to be OK, here are my configuration files....

Search tjhe metalink gave me no good answer (just some rookie advicess about network files).
    P.S:
I do remember that something similar happend on the job. After installing NOD32 we have to reinstall the Oracle client which was having problems with onames (sometimes it could ping and sometimes not!)...
Please I'm sure that someone else had problems like we. I could reinstall Oracle but I'd like to understand what is going on....
    THX2

Vista 32 is unsupported? I think there is some misunderstanding about that....Ok maybe 10.2.0.3 is fully supported but... 10.2.0.1 is "unpatched" but please do understand ... it was working very nice before installing NOD32. All of it!
Also, please do understand that we are not rookies and 1 year old DBA...
On the job, there is the same problem on Windows XP SP2 client and Oracle 9.2.0.6 and names server. Here all was working smooth and nice until on client NOD32 was installed. From that moment client was sometimes unable to resolve tnsping through names service on "real" Sun Solaris 10 with 9.2.0.6 (patched!!) database. This is "real" enough and fully supported by Oracle....
That all is to obvious that something is wrong on the client side. Please do understand that none of the problems that I found on metalink that was made form user were not resolved.
So I just want to try to understand the cause....Please I know that Vista is not OS for database, but sometimes we have to have something small at home for Oracle fun....and testing some SQL's....
    THX
    P.S:
All can be repaired (at least that helped on the work) to reinstall Oracle client (administrator type) again after NOD32.
Here maybe something can be done again ... bu I'd like to know what is the problem...if possible.

  • Help-My windows computer hard drive is ruined and need the music on mac

My dell computer recently crashed and the hard dirve is ruined and all data is lost. I have purchased a new 24in imac and the new ipod nano as well. However, because the music on my dell is gone, the only place i have all of the music is on my windows formatted, first generation nano. I haven't been able to figure out how to move my music from that nano to my new imac. Please help me out, it would be a shame for me to lose all my music, because I don't have it backed up. Thanks Alot.
    Ben
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPod.iTunes Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • How can I get 64-bit windows versions other than 'nightly'

How can I get a 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows that isn't alpha quality (Nightly).
    I'm still running FF 3.6.26 ....
I've said before, give me a reason to upgrade...64-bits would be a good reason, but the fact that a large number of extensions fail -- (try to install the latest firebug 'swarm' in nightly -- epic fail! (404)...), we not only don't have a swarm for you we've never even heard of you!...
So give me a version of FF-go-nightly, that's equiv to the latest released version, and it might have a chance...
I did get most stuff working -- curious why jar files were renamed to 'ja', they don't seem to be in japanese when I unpacked them... ;-) I found it wasn't a typo...
had a full transparent brower on about blank... a bit weird. but sorta cool...
finally figured out how the menus were messed up and saw howto correct most of the damage, but without spending alot more time fine-tuning, it would be hard to get it back just right.. but after spending a day (~10am-8pm on using Nightly), upgrading/config'ing various extensions....etc.
Anyway, I know I said give me a reason.. to upgrade from 3.6 -- a carrot rather than a stick, but too many problems...come on .. even the version was unlucky to begin with! (13!?) .. (I like 13, really, but thought it was humorous).
So how about 64-bits in something a bit better supported?
Why not 64bit versions of each of the releases?
Finally FF got a bit better perf (a bit worse for more debug on, but better in having enough memory, and using a native instruction set rather than the virtualized 32-bit WOW, that it normally runs on...)...

Mozilla has never released a 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows, and the 32-bit versions of Firefox are faster than the Nightly 64-bit version test builds.

  • Since upgrading to Yosemite, when I try to compose a new message, the window is wider than the screen and I can't adjust the width.

Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite on my MacBook Air, I cannot get the mail window to adjust to a size that fits my screen.  It is wider than the screen size and although I can adjust the height, the adjustment arrows will not adjust the width.  I am not having the same problem with my mac mini since I upgraded that computer.  This is a pain because I spend most of my time on my air sending out e-mails to clients

    Greetings kbug61,
It appears you are experiencing issues with window sizes and displays. Have you attempted to adjust your resolution at any point? That may be why the windows aren't managed properly. The following article may help you find a solution:
OS X Yosemite: Adjust your display’s resolution
Your display’s resolution determines the size of text and objects on your screen. By default, the resolution on your display is set to show the sharpest text and the most detailed images. While it’s best to use the default resolution, you can manually set the resolution to make text and objects appear larger on your screen, or adjust it to make text and objects appear smaller so you have more space on your screen.
Depending on how you adjust the resolution, some apps may not fit entirely on the screen. Using a scaled resolution may affect performance.
Set the resolution for your primary display
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Display.
Select Scaled, then select one of the scaled resolution options.
Set the resolution for a connected display
If you have more than one display, additional resolution options are available.
After the display is connected, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Display.
Press the Option key while you click Scaled to see additional resolutions for the second display. Then select a scaled resolution option for the second display.
If you changed your display’s resolution and now there’s no picture
Connect multiple displays to your Mac
    Set options for accessibility
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • I am getting EXACTLY the same "you don't have the required permissions" message that I see all over the net.  64 bit windows 7 ultimate. Many uninstalls and reinstalls.  Yes, Itunes is in the program files x64 directory.  Yes I get the same error there.

I'm getting the same error message as many other when I try to start Itunes.  It was working correctly until I got an ipad 3 and installed some of the associated tools.  Have uninstalled and reinstalled many times.  Yes it's in the program files x64 directory.  Yes I get the same error when I try to start direct from that folder instead of menus or desktop shortcuts.  Did some registry cleaning.  Nothing helps.  Windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit.  Please help.

The install fails with the error: "installer has insufficient privileges to access the directory >c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\itunes. The installation cannot continue". My user account is an admin account. I then retried the install by right-clicking and running the install with Admin Privileges. Same error results.
I don't have a Windows 7 box in front of me, so can you check something for me?
Navigate to that location on the PC look at the itunes item you see there. Is it a shortcut to your iTunes program file?
If it's just a shortcut, try dragging it out onto the desktop and doing another (64-bit) install. (With a 32-bit already in place, it may just offer to do a "repair install" instead of a full install.
Do you still get the error message or does the install go through smoothly this time?

  • Can I use 64-bit Windows 7 on an Early 2008 iMac?

According to the official support page, 32-bit Windows 7 is supported, but I have seen listings elsewhere that this machine meets Microsoft's specs for 64-bit Windows 7 "with the correct drivers" and that people hve successfully installed and run 64-bit Windows 7
I am on 10.8 and used Boot Camp 4 to create a "drivers" install DVD.  Will this contain the drivers for 64-bit Windows?  How can I install it on this Mac?

  • Will Photoshop Elements 10 work on 64-bit Windows XP?

I am currently running 64-bit Windows XP on my desktop PC and am interested in upgrading to the latest version of Photoshop Elements.  I see in the system requirements for version 10 that it supports Windows XP Service Pack 3.  Since Microsoft never released a 64-bit build of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (the last service pack available for 64-bit Windows XP being Service Pack 2), will Photoshop Elements 10 even install, let alone work, on 64-bit Windows XP?
Please DO NOT suggest that I upgrade my PC to a later version of Windows.  I already have Windows 7 on my laptop, but I want to use Photoshop on my desktop PC.

Matthew25187 it should work ok on Windows XP 64-bit.  The main issues for 64-bit are around drivers as long as your display driver has been functioning fine you should be ok.

  • Can someone help me get a 64-bit Windows dll please?

    Hi all,
I'm not a C++ developer (C# instead) and am looking to get hold of a 64-bit version of the Windows XMP dll. I've tried compiling the source myself, but I'm way out of my depth here and can't make it happen.
Truth be told, I don't even know if there is such a thing as a 64-bit version of the dll, but that's where my research has lead me.
I'm trying to use the C# wrapper on 64-bit windows, but it doesn't work and the info I've found is that it's because the XMP dll is compiled for 32-bit platforms, and so won't work.
Can I ask if someone here can supply me with a 64-bit Windows XMP dll please? If so, please mail it to amethi [at] gmail dot com.
I'm frustrated as it all works fine on my development machine which are 32 bit, but on deployment to our super-spanky 64-bit machine, it didn't work. Doh! Any help appreciated.

    Hi,
Font is one of your problems. Going into the XML Source and doing a find and replace; changing Times New Roman to Myriad Pro reduced the form from 860kb down to 440kb.
Also because you have brought this in from another programme (possibly Word) there are lots of objects making up the form. I would recommend changing the font and then working through the form replacing multiple textfields with a single textfield.
It should be possible to get a 1-page form down to size. Just bear in mind the logo. Whatever size that is will be added to the overall form size.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • 32-bit JDK in 64-bit Windows 8.1

Should 32-bit JDK + NetBeans bundle install on 64-bit Windows 8.1?
I tried, and in the beginning of installation it said "rebooting" and then the system rebooted.
No warnings, and nothing got installed.
64-bit JDK alone installs fine, and so does 32-bit JRE.
My problem is that I need both JDK 8u20 (preferably with netbeans) for a project, and Java-capable Firefox for some company internal "office tools".
It just looks like 32-bit JDK doesn't install, and Firefox can't use 64-bit JRE.
Do I have to use Linux in a VM to have both?

Install each individually and you should be fine. I've had problems with the multiple product installs before, specifically Java and Netbeans.

  • Why is 64 bit Windows 7 Professional running so slow on my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro?

I installed 64 bit Windows 7 Professional onto my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro and while the Mac partition runs fine, everything about the Windows partition seems to be slow.  There's hangups, random loading icons for processes that shouldn't require any work at all (even browsing through Windows Explorer will do this from time to time).  I don't undertand why this is happening, I thought running 64 bit would unleash the full power of my new Mac.  Should I just wipe it and do a clean install of Windows 7 32 bit instead?  I've never had issues/compatibility problems with installations of 32 bit Windows.

Well if you just installed it, then perhaps it's not validated yet and when it does there will be Windows Updates to increase the performance.
I'm sure you followed all the Bootcamp instructions about installing the Apple drivers and all that.
The only thing I can suggest is you reinstall it again after a few days and all the Windows Updates applied if it speeds up or not. Keep hitting it over and over. Make sure you have the free Microsoft Security Essentials installed or you'll get pwned really fast.
Also you have to remember that when Bootcamp carves out a Windows partition it's doing so at the bottom slowest part of your hard drive, the innermost sectors which are much smaller than the sectors OS X uses, therefore Windows will always be a bit slower than OS X, and there really isn't anything you can do about it unless you had a SSD.
I don't think you can install 32 bit Windows, even though it may run, it's only going to use half the registers of your 64bit processors.
Windows 7 64 bit runs fine in my virtual machine, I even get over 45 fps on Cube 2 Sauerbraten, but of course it's a rather light 3D game.
If you got the 2.0 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro, that could explain things, it's has a rather weak video card.
