OBIEE on Linux 64 bit

Has anyone had any success in installing OBIEE , DAC and Oracle BI Apps on Linux 64 bit? We are on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4. We were able to install obiee 10.1.3.4.1 on this machine and start services successfully. We were able to also install the Informatica 8.1.1 (followed by SP5) on the same machine and start infaservice successfully. However, we are having issues installing the DAC 10.1.3.4.1 on this.
We downloaded the DAC from edelivery.oracle.com for the Linux platform. The runInstaller from the base installation directory did not even launch and gave an error saying "Running 64 bit JVM is not supported". We found a "linux" directory under the base installation directory and a runInstaller there. We invoked this and was able to install the DAC successfully until the "oracleRoot.sh" screen. The oracleRoot.sh is failing since we don't seem to have the hasbind and hasexec files that the oracleRoot.sh is looking for. Anyone faced such issues?
We tried to say OK and start the DAC components but it is failing due to server.properties missing from bifoundation/dac/conf location. Any thoughts/suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Arun

Okay, so after re-reading the BI Applications install documentation, it turns out that even though you can download the Linux install for the DAC, you actually are not at all supposed to install the DAC to a linux environment.
Instead, you are only supposed to install DAC to Windows and then copy and paste the folders to the Linux server.
This might be a rhetorical question, but why is there a linux install file for DAC available, if you are not supposed to use it?
In fact the document "Data Warehouse Administration Console Installation, Configuration, and Upgrade Guide" (E12653-01), it clearly says for Unix/Linux you need to run the universal installer on the Linux server. It doesn't say anything about installing on windows and copying. Am I missing something here?
Either way, the moral of this story is following the details outlined in the BI Applications installation guide and not the details in the DAC installation guide.

  • How to connect Oracle 10g from OBIEE on Linux?

    - OBIEE 10.1.3.4.0 is running on Cent 5 Linux M1 (*64* bit). My Oracle database is running another similar machine M2.
    - I installed oracle 64 bit client on M1 but could not connect to run the report, connection issue. Even nqcmd didn't helped.
    - I guess it was because OBIEE is *32* bit application and hence need 32 bit client.
    - I tried installing Oracle 32 bit Linux client on M1 but installation fails with some dependency (Not sure if we can install 32 bit client on 64 bit machine)
Q1 - Any suggestion at this point?
Q2 - Is there any way we could connect OBIEE to Oracle via ODBC drivers. I could not found any odbc driver/so file when I wan installed 64 bit client. Any suggestion for this?
    Thanks in Advance!

The computer running XE server does not need a client installed.
If you are trying to connect from another computer, install the XE client and create file C:\XEClient\NETWORK\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA with the following contents (replace ip_address as appropriate):
    XE =
        (DESCRIPTION =
           (ADDRESS_LIST =
              (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ip_address)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
              (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    {code}Test with
    {code:java}
    sqlplus SYSTEM/password@XE

  • Installation Directory of OBIEE in linux

    Hi all,
I am trying to install OBIEE on Linux server, by default the installtion directory will be
    /usr/local/OracleBI
    /usr/local/OracleBIData
Is that mandatory to install OBIEE under these directories or can i Install in any other directories like any mount point (/mnt/OracleBI)or under home directory (/home/Vinay/OracleBI) ?????
    Thanks,
    Vinay

If I recollect it correctly, you going to specify the location like /usr/Local.
So you can go for any location other than what Oracle suggested.

  • Is it possible to run OBIEE on linux 64 bit mchine with oracle 64 bit

Is it possible to run OBIEE 10.1.3.4.0 on linux 64 bit machine with oracle 64 bit(10.2.0.1.0) installed
    Thanks in Advance

Yes, assuming your hardware has the supported CPUs. OBIEE binaries are 32 bits and requires 32 bits OCI libraries to connect Oracle DBs. See the OBIEE [System Requirements and Supported Platforms|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10417.pdf] for more information.

  • Installing OBIEE on 64 bit Redhat Enterprise Linux 5

    Hello,
We have a 64 bit Redhat Enterptise Linux 5 box, and I installed on it the 32 bit Oracle Database client as well as the OBIEE software.
The 64 bit installation requirements state: "For 64-bit Linux system installations, you must use the Oracle Database Client 32-bit libraries."
However, the installer never prompted me for the location of the 32 bit Oracle Database Client libraries.
How can I make sure that these libraries were indeed used during the installation?
    Thank you very much.
    -sb

The installer does not reference any libraries. You will need to place them in the correct or refer to the Database client libraries via your system path for your Server to work correctly.

Hi Guys -- Am finally able to install OBIEE11g...
Provided in the link were the pre-requisites that you need to make 100% sure for windows 7 64 bit install.
    http://oraclebi.blog.com/obiee-11-1-1-6-installation/
Coming to the Issues I made...
For Enterprise Edition Installation (Option 2 in the graphical user interface installation screen)*
    1.) I had "jdk1.7.0_10" installed in "C:\Java" folder.
When trying to install OBIEE 11.1 it install weblogic version "10.3.5" as this is not compatible with "jdk1.7.0_10" had Issues.
    For Software Only Install*
1.) I had to download and install "wls1036_generic.jar" from OTN.
You need to make sure that you install it by following the below steps but not just by double clicking it... because it is doing a kind of 32 bit installation when double clicking (yaa that's strange) even though you were expecting an 64 bit.
    a.) open command prompt
b.) go to the folder where "java -jar wls1036_generic.jar" was installed
c.) Then run "java -jar wls1036_generic.jar"
    Other Issues*
1.) Turn off Windows fire wall during Installation.
    2.) Uninstall Antivirus
Not sure about the credibility of the above two points, came across some websites am tired of trying all the options and at one point.. I turned them off and never turned them back on...
Source*:::: Various Websites based on the different errors and mix matching the Info, trying different options to solve an error/Issue.
Hope this is helpful to someone..... I Still say the Installation is not as straight forward as other BI Tools in the market.

  • OBIEE 11g 64-bit install on Windows 64-bit

I wanted to solicit any experiences that the user forum is having with installing 11g on a 64-bit Windows platform. I understand that the Admintool/Job Manager will not run with the 64-bit installation package but we can install the newly released Client install to circumvent this. I am seeing many forums out there in which the 64-bit OBIEE install is done as Simple or Enterprise. My understanding is that this is useless as the bundled WebLogic utilizes at 32-bit JVM. There is a Doc ID out on Metalink (ID 1220564.1) that states one can only do a Software Install. So we have proceeded with the following steps of downloading first the Java 64-bit JVM, then a WebLogic instance utilizing the 64-bit JVM (java -D64 -jar xxx.jar) and finally the OBIEE Software Only install.
The issue we are running into is that the Install fails when attempting to start the OPMN. So during the install the "Executing:opmnctl start coreapplication_obips1
" fails and references the OPMN not starting. We are unable to start the OPMN service as well. We have a static IP, so this not the known issue with the loopback adapter. The other issue I saw was having to install the VC++ 2005 SP1 libraries per another Metalink Doc ID (1226254.1). This was all done, however, the install continues to fail.
It seems the lack of knowledge from support as well as the vague/lack of documentation is frustrating. I just wanted to ping the OTN community around this scenario.

Thanks Paul, really appreciate the update. Spent this morning rebuilding our environment with 64-bit (Win 2008) and starting from scratch. The install has now succeeded. I tell you one thing you pointed out is something we noticed when we proceeded with the second install. That was the WebLogic version. I had initially used .4 and on the second install we used .3. I am guessing that this may have been the issue.
I will verify with our Oracle resources and I hope this post will assist other when doing the 64-bit install as I think it is very vague in the documentation.
I will update the post with Oracles response as well.
Just as an FYI... the reason this issue came up in the first place was we did an Enteprise Install on 64-bit and found that the Gauge Charts weren't working in the SampleAppLite Subject Area. So I will add that to the Tags for this post.
Hope this post helps others and they don't go through the headaches of a wrong install type.

  • OBIEE 11G 64-Bit Windows LDAP Admin Server Startup Issue

    All,
I have OBIEE 11G installed on 64-bit Windows, and can see all my LDAP users inside Admin Console just fine. When I reorder my LDAP above the DefaultAuthenticator, and make them both 'SUFFICIENT', my Admin Server no longer starts. It hangs on a line in the AdminServer.log that roughly says '<Security initializing using security realm myrealm.>'. Has anyone ran into this? If so, how do you get the Admin Server to start with a non default LDAP authenticator? I've tried re-ordering numerous ways with the DefaultIdentityAsserter in the middle and at the bottom; I've also tried switching the Control Flags on both with REQUIRED and OPTIONAL, all to no avail. Finally, I tried deleting out the DefaultAuthenticator all together, and it still won't start. At this point, I'm assuming this is another 64-bit issue that was not tested properly. Any thoughts/help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Josh

    Paul,
Unfortunately that made no difference. I have pasted in the startup log below. Perhaps someone has some insight into what's happening?

    Hi Sujitha,
I dont know what is the error all about, but it will continue installation and completes it successfully. If you want to use charts that deals with corda that would give you problem.
Hope this link helps you http://rnm1978.wordpress.com/category/obiee/sawserver/page/2/

  • How to install OBIA on windows having OBIEE on Linux?

    Hi,
I am going to install as many components on Linux as possible for BI Apps.
Presently I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7 on Linux 5.8 64bit.
Now I want to install OBIA 7964 which is only available for Windows so far.
How I can setup OBIA on Linux? May be I have to install it windows and move metadata (RPD, Catalog) on Linux.
But again when I try to install OBIA on windows then it ask for OBIEE software locations (Like domain home, instance home etc)
Does that interesting by Oracle? How to solve it?
    Documentation say nothing about it.
    Regards
    Naeem Akhtar

After you have copied you might just need to restart the services for few files in order for them to be reflected. OBIA comes with RPD and catalog folders, just copy them or deploy them using EM and just restart the services. You should be good.
If you cant access http://hostname:9704/analytics then services might be down. looks for logs and also ./opmnctl status to see as what are the services are down.
    Thanks,
    RM
