OBIEE or BI Apps

Hi All,
I have been working on Hyperion for some yrs . I want to extend my knowledge to other Techs. I want to learn OBIEE. what will add value to my resume OBIEE or BI Apps.
what is the difference between OBIEE and BI Apps.

Hi Annu,
as you might have known or guessed, OBIEE is a reporting/trending tool where reports can be generated using OBI Answers, Published using OBI Dashboards and Delivered using OBI IBOTS. OBIEE formerly know as siebel analytics formerly known as Nquire. Now Hyperion is mergerd/combined with OBIEE and there is place for this combination in the market (I guess).
OBIEE is same as microstrategy/cognos/business objects/sap bw/ many more in market today.
clients(in real time, no one does this) can also Ad-hoc reporting by themselves with out dashboard developers
BI Apps is a prebuilt/pre-packaged/delivered/out of box Material which is developed by Oracle Corp thinking that this OOTB dashboards(webcatalog), repository, informatica adopters will be good enough for clients who expect to invest low on human resources and use the analysis tool immediately.
most of the cases, clients may end up customizing their ERP/CRM/Applications where those customizations have to be done in Informatica, DAC and BI Apps RPD.
BI Apps mean or iincludes Informatica, DAC and RPD, WEB CATALOG etc.

Hi,
We are implementing BI Apps 7.9.6.3 [OBIEE 11.1.1.1.5 with EBS modules]. Out of the box RPD and mappings.
There are many VARIABLES and INIT BLOCKS in the RPD. Some of them are mainly for Siebel, Jd Edwards etc.
I need to know what are the default variables and Init Block configures in RPD. Also it will be highly appreciated if anyone can point out what segments we should configure if we need to implement security with simple database table authentication with SSO?

Login in to OBIEE with Oracle Apps Credentials

How can i connect to OBIEE repository and presentation services using Oracle Apps (ebusiness suite) user name and password the same way it can be done in discoverer.
if anyone can point me to a link or give me his own opinion on how to do that please do.

Best topology for OBIEE and BI Apps for EBS

Hi,
I am working as Oracle Applications DBA. Now i have an oppurtunity to implement BI Apps. I was wondering what is the best topplogy for implementing this.
We are solaris shop so we already got new two servers.
Could any one tell me how i should split the following components between two servers.
1. Oracle Database 11g (11.2.0.2)
2. OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5), Web logic server
3. Informatica (9.0.1 hotfix 2)
4. Oracle BI Apps (7.9.6.3)
5. DAC

OBIEE and Oracle Apps (E Business Suite) SSO implementation

Hi Gurus,
We are using apps 11i and OBIEE 10.1.3.4 . I would like to ask that is there any doc which could provide me steps of SSO implementation between both. Or if not in doc is there any body who incorporated the same. Here we dont have DAC and ETL as Informatica for etl we are using plsql. I want to make it work like when user types his id and password in Oracle E business , automatically he should be also directed to OBI also same user id and password could be used to the OBI. Please remember my OBI is not from apps package. It is EE and not OBI 7.9.6 So is it possible to implement SSO between OBIEE and apps 11i and how ?

OBIEE and Oracle Apps

Hi,
We have OBIEE integrated with Oracle Apps. During installation we also get the Vanilla rpd. we are also using another new module which uses another database but not the Oracle apps. We have requirement of OBIEE reports on this module. This databse is an OLTP database. We are trying to add another source to the rpd and pull these tables and create a subject area. My understanding is that this is possible. So we will have two sources. One that came in the vanilla rpd which is datawarehouse and the other which is OLTP for the new module. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

You are doing correct let me add some points
which uses another database but not the Oracle apps. We have requirement of OBIEE reports on this module. This database is an OLTP database.You have Different connection pools by default when u install oracle Apps next,you are customizing the rpd by adding some OLTP database ,
Merging the Vanilla rpd + Custom rpd (i mean connection pools)
make sure that all the join conditions to be made and report should be from theis subject area

Customizing OBIEE with BI Apps informatica

We are in the process of customizing bi apps finance and have 3 new dimension tables to add to the existing facts. What is the best process to tie these new dimensions to the existing GL fact via ETL method.
We have started by adding one wid column from each of the new dimensions to all of the OOTB Fact tables being used?

I have read documentation as you have mentioned the question I have is how do you enter the new custom dimension tables column ids through to staging table of fact if the wid is not established until the SIL mapping has complete. Then you would need to add from 2 x different sources OLTP and OLAP. Would this mean that we would have to create a copy of the existing fact tables mappings and copy them to a custom folder and customize for the extra columns.

Integrate obiee with existing app using sigle sign-on

have an existing application written in perl. Now i need to integrate this application with obiee. The obiee resides on a different server from the running application, and we want a single single-on. Has anyone done this know how hard it is to do this.

from my point of view, we have to seperate the problem in two parts:
1.) The automatic logon to the struts application via SSO.
2.) The session sharing via some J2EE mechanism.
For the SSO (1.) You have to logged on to the portal - with a cookie on the clientside. This cookie can be used for SSO by Your Struts application as long as You share the same session (same browserinstance). This is not difficult examples are available.
The sessionsharing between a J2EE aap - Struts and an iView is an intersting point. I hope I can get some time to try this out. One trick which is not too clever is to store the session data serialized in a database and privide the sessionid in the url which calls the iView or Struts. Sessionsharing between iViews is no problem as long as You use the HTTPSession.

How to integration obiee Authentication with external app?

now i need integrate obiee with external app(web application).
one user have 2 roles. one is teacher, others is school admin.
when he login in external app, the first screen show teacher and school amdin. he click teacher login in this system.
after user login in . system set the role into session.
then he want to see obiee dashboard in external app side.
in obiee side, i need do some resources control for this role.
but i how to get this role? i can get the two roles from LDAP server. but i need confirm user login in external app use which role?
i no idea for this .please help me.

Hi,
Sounds like your OBIEE apps needs to be able to get the role from the session (I assume database session), which means OBIEE needs to be able to get the same session from the external app. Does the external app set a cookie or something that would identify the session? If so use that cookie in OBIEE to get the session? More than likely need more details of the architecture of you external application!

OBIEE 11.1.1.6 BP1 - Map formatting fails to show on iPad OBIEE Mobile HD.

Hi,
i am facing this problem in OBIEE 11.1.1.6 BP1.
1) Where I have created a new Geo map using the Mapbuilder.
2) the same is shown correctly in IE.
3) But when accessed through iPad obiee mobile HD app then the conditional formatting (Colour filling) does not appear on the Map. Instead a '?' QUESTIONMARK is displayed on the map when accessed through the App.
If anybody is facing a similar issue please let me know.

Any pre configured apps for EID

Hi Experts,
Am new to BI platform but not to Endeca.
On my initial comparisons between Endeca information discovery and its counterparts in BI, I found that some BI tools like OBIEE provide BI apps by which you can configure predefined dashboards based on your vertical (say manufacturing, Retail etc) with some customization.
This makes sense as they follow a particualr structure (Data ware house) .
I was wondering if anything of this has been implemented/thought of for EID as well?
Please let me know if am not clear in my question or my understanding with other BI products is incorrect.

Regarding OBIEE Installation

I need to install Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition, Informatica PowerCenter and Power Connect Adapters. In addition i want to install analytics for Supply Chain and Order Management Fusion Edition, Financial Fusion Edition, Procurement and Spend Fusion Edition.
The database we would like to use is 11g if compatible if no then 10g.
How can i configure these? Can you tell me the hierarchy of installation? means OBIEE, Informatica Power Center, DAC(i am not sure if require for this installation),how many repo db i want to use, Whether i need to install OBIEE and Power center in same machine or separate machine, what about OBI Apps(i didnt get the set up file for linux ony i got for windows), how can i integrate OBIEE with Oracle Apps 12.1.1....
I am new to OBIEE. Please let me know a solution for this.

Are you upgrading or installing on a different server? If you're installing it on your local machine, you might have to modify the NQSConfig file to point to the right directories (C:\OracleBI whereas on the server it might have been D:\OracleBI etc).

Upgrade Siebel Analytics repository to OBIEE Enivornment

We are also planning to upgrade Siebel Analytics 782+Infa 712+DAC to OBIEE 101341+ Bi Apps 7962+Infa861+DAC101341. We are using Sales Analytics module. Have a few questions regarding this situation:
1. After upgrading SA 782 to OBIEE 101341, we got a seeded rpd for BIApps 7962, but we also have a SA 782 rpd which has been customized with some changes. I have seen the Repository upgrade steps mentioned in Upgrade guide for Informatica Power Center User and it has the process of Equalizing the rpds and merging. If I use this will I be getting my customization's merged in to the out of box BI Apps rpd under the same business model?
What would be the best way to merge these two rpds, two way merge and keep the business models seperate or try to redo the customization in the new rpd?
2. For DAC, does all customization's have to be moved manually into the 101341 or can be exported?
3. For Informatica while upgrading the repository to 861, does the repository from version 712 has to be restored into the same database schema as the out of box 861 repository? Or restore the old 712 repository into a new database schema, upgrade the content and use the Informatica Repository manager tool to copy the custom folder s from old repository to out of box repository is enough?
