Obiee repository

Hi,
Need help urgently.
I have created a join to a new dimension (a data dimension) an existing OLAP datamodel in the physical layer and created the BMM copied the subject over to the presentation layer.
All was created successfully but when I query this in Answers I get

Is it possible or is there a trick to creating new joins to existing models without having to recreate the whole physical, BMM and presentation layer?

Being novice in weblogic with integration of OBIEE 11G, i heard we have WLST (Weblogic Scripting Tool), is it something like UNIX scripting?, My references told me that we can do many administration tasks that are done in GUI consoles with help of WLST using OEPE (Oracle Enterpise Pack for Eclipse). Now my question is can we deploy OBIEE Repository, OBIEE catalog and start/restart/stop BI services using WLST?

Data Security in OBIEE Repository

I applied Data Security in OBIEE Repository,created testuser and assigned to Test group.Applied security in the Test group for specific column using Logical Fact.When i login using the testuser i am not able to see the applied data filter in the Test Group.Am i missing anything.

I tried but still i don't see the security filter.Do i need to configure my NQSconfigfile.ini.Security filter status in Repository is Enable.We implemented fragmentation in logical fact,anyway that shouldn't matter as per my guess.

If your using Cognos version like MDX/XMLA then it should be possible. (on older cognos version you migth have to "reroute" trought an SSAS service.

You can't connect directly to the Cognos cube, you have to go trough the Cognos Reporting server:
OBIEE -> Cognos Reporting Server - > Cognos Cube
or
OBIEE -> MS - SSAS server - > Cognos Reporting Server -> Cognos Cube
But if you are already on Cognos why do you want to transfer data to OBIEE? Cognos is NOT an ETL tool. A Cognos Cube File is only a data file for a Cognos Reporting server.

Issue to check in parent-child closure table attributes to OBIEE repository

I use OBIEE 11.1.1.5 Administration Tool to open repository in online mode and set up parent-child hierarchy. There are no issues but after I check in changes to server, close repository and open it back from server, closure table attributes are missing.
On the other hand when I save repository file locally, close it and then open offline, all mentioned attributes are there. Also all other modifications (except hierarchy) are properly checked in to remote repository.
When I compare UDML from remote and local copy of repository here is part missing in remote:

          "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."ANCESTOR_KEY",

          "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."IS_LEAF")
When trying to build web report I get "[nQSError: 38107] Not all four columns are defined for closure table" (which is actually not surprising).
Unfortunately I need to do this change in online mode without restarting obiee services.
Any ideas how to force admin tool to check in all changes to remote repository?

Finally I applied workaround:
- modified hierarchy in offline mode
- deployed repository
Now when importing repo in online mode closure table parameters are in place.

Changing user permissions SQL Database Server for OBIEE repository

Hi All
We have installed OBIEE 11g and are using database SQL Server 2008 R2.
The users of the repositories are connected to the master database, and our client query if these users can be disconnected from the master database, so that only stay connected to their corresponding repositories.
Please help with this question.

Hi,
You can move out of Master database with SQL server. If such a case is being considered then you have to create a database with SQL server then move all the existing OBI repository's and its users to the new Database. Once this change is complete on the Database side on Weblogic Database connect strings needs to be changed.

How to connect Linux OBIEE repository to database?

I installed Oracle BIEE.
Then I uploaded the repository from my Windows BIEE.
Then uploaded my catalog (web/catalog/)
Now I must connect my repository to oracle db. How can I do this?
In Windows I did ODBC connections to my databases. How to connect to databases on Linux?

OK let's start again with all you need to do as you don't clarify if you have done it or not:
1) Make sure you got a FULL Oracle 10g client installed (check with your DBA). Oracle INSTANT CLIENT is NOT SUPPORTED.
2) Make sure the OBIEE user that you use to run the OBIEE services has read and execute permissions on all files under ORACLE_HOME for the Oracle client that you wish to use. Even better if you install the Oracle client with the same user as the OBIEE uses to run it's services.
3) Make sure your Oracle 10g client has the OCI 32bits libraries installed (check in the ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory that the libclntsh.so.10.1 library exists and it's size is bigger than 0 bytes). OBIEE uses the 32bits libraries.
4) Configure your OBIEE /OracleBI/setup/user.sh file to make sure your ORACLE_HOME and TNS_ADMIN variables are correctly set to the correct values. You also need to set these two:
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
5) Export all the above 4 variables in your current session and test that you can resolve your database name(s) by doing "tnsping DB_NAME".
6) Restart all your OBIEE services and check that all variables are correctly set (type "env").
After you have done all that give it a test and let us know if it works.

P6 analytics connection to OBIEE repository

Iam unable to open the "OraclePrimaveraP6Analytics.rpd" file using OBIEE administrator tooll, it requires a password.
anybody has any idea on the password for the repository file.

to run the reports in oracle BIEEE? if so, can i add all this databases on a single machine, since i am getting an instance problem like one isntance is up any given point of time..

Error while saving the OBIEE repository in AIX

Hi,
In my current project OBIEE is installed on the AIX server.Now I need to migrate the rpd from one DEV to Test instance.
When I try to take the back up of the rpd and try to ftp the rpd I get an error-"Permission denied".
Has anyone faced this issue before?

OBIEE Repository and Catalog Upgrade(11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.7)

I see a lot of documentation on upgrade but I just couldn't find this. I installed OBI 11.1.1.7 and trying to test it on our own repository and reports.
I want to upgrade OBI 11.1.1.5 repository and catalog to 11.1.1.7 and run those in my new installation. Is this possible?

When updating your Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) software from Release 11.1.1.3.0, 11.1.1.5.0 or 11.1.1.6.x, you must manually update your Oracle BI Presentation Catalogs. Instructions are provided below:
Stop Oracle BI Presentation Services using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
For details, see "Using Fusion Middleware Control to Start and Stop Oracle Business Intelligence System Components and Java Components" in Oracle Fusion Middleware System Administrator's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.
Back up your Release 11.1.1.3.0, 11.1.1.5.0 or 11.1.1.6.x catalogs by using the 7-Zip utility to create a compressed file for it.
Create a backup copy of the instanceconfig.xml file.
The instanceconfig.xml file is located in the ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent/coreapplication_obipsn (on UNIX operating systems) or ORACLE_INSTANCE\config\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obipsn (on Windows operating systems) directory.
Change the upgradeAndExit option to true in the instanceconfig.xml file.
Find the following code:

After the catalogs are updated, edit the instanceconfig.xml file again and change the upgradeAndExit option back to false.
Restart Oracle BI Presentation Services using Fusion Middleware Control.

No its not mandatory, its for quick fixes where you cant ETL your data into the structures you require, failing that you cant create a view in the underlying database because you dont have permissions, or its such a simple query you think it doesnt warrant creating.
Bear in mind :
All rows have to be returned from the view, the database has more work to do,
debugging your Physical SQL gets messy and quickly un-readable.
It really is for quick fixes but in the long term I'd always try and avoid them.

OBIEE repository variable CURRENT_ENTERPRISE_QUARTER not set

We have a trial on-premise instance of Fusion Sales. The embedded OBIEE reports are not retrieving results because of the filters CURRENT_ENTERPRISE_QUARTER and
CURRENT_ENTERPRISE_YEAR pointing to 2011.
Could someone please advice in detail how to get these variables set correctly.

Found the root cause of this issue. The accounting calendar created in the system started from 2012. I created another accounting calendar which included 2011 Q2 and set it as CRM common calendar. Waited for the BI refresh and checked the seeded reports. They the current_enterprise_year value changed.

Giving the excerpt from the above document
1) Navigator > Setup and Maintenance >Manage Accounting Calendar
Create a new calendar including Year 2011 and Q2 (Second quarter)
2) Navigator Manage Calendar Profile >CRM Common Calendar (ZCA_COMMON_CALENDAR')
> Assign the new calendar (commonly at Site level) instead of former one
> Save and Apply
3) Navigator > Sales Dashboard > Open dashboard with new seeded reports : data and figures are displayed now

OBIEE Repository migration

Hello Guys,
I ran into a strange problem today. I am using repository migration to migrate my objects from one repository to the other. There are some dummy presentation table that i created to nest some of the presentation tables under it.
After the repository migration strangely all my dummy folders are gone from the presentation layer. It will only display the presentation tables that have columns under it.
I end up manually creating those dummy presentation tables again after the migration.
Is this a known behaviour or am i missing some thing here? Please advice

Its a known bug. What oracle says about it is, A presentation table should have at least one column, Then only it considers for migration.
In your case what you have to do is create a dummy column and remove read access for every one. So that we will overcome the problem in the rpd mgiration.

Read/write from OBIEE repository data using API

Hi, I need to create a my own application that could read/write from the repository data, the same as I can do using the BI Admin user interface (like creating dimensions, hierarchies, levels, etc.).
Are there any API's to do that?
I'm usually working with .NET/C# technology but I can also programming in Java, the important is that I could be able to write metadata in the repository, and simply read them, I'm not interested in complex report functions... any suggestion will be appreciated!

I've looked for it before, but I didn't find anything about BI Server accessing, so I requested on this forum. After that I've looked for another kind of API and I've found these about web services!
In the PDF I linked says:
"Oracle BI Web Services allows external applications such as J2EE and .NET to use Oracle Business
Intelligence as an analytical calculation and data integration engine. It provides a set of Presentation
Services that allow external applications to communicate with Oracle BI Presentation Services. You
can use Oracle BI Web Services to extract results from Oracle BI Presentation Services and deliver
them to external applications and Web application environments. You can reference a saved report
or send the criteria for the report to Oracle BI Web Services."
without talking about Metadata, but in this another tutorial http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/customizing-obi-ee-soap-api/ talks about "metadata"... is it only about Presentation Service? Has Presentation Service metadata too? Are they like Dimensions and hierarchies?
Excuse me but although I've read the documentation I can't understand what kind of metadata it refers to...
