OBIEE services are down

hi gems...
i have started all the OBIEE services and then logon to the browser and the login page comes.
I am able to login and view the reports..
But after few seconds the screen goes off and it is showing THE PAGE NOT FOUND..
the OBIEE server is a solaris machine..
please help...thanks in advance..

Try fully restart (below procedure for OBIEE "Simple" installation on Linux)
Stop
1) Stop OBIEE processes (C++ components) : [MiddlewareHome]/instances/instance1/bin/opmnctl stopall
2) Stop Weblogic : [MiddlewareHome]/user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/bin/stopWebLogic.sh
3) Confirm that Weblogic is not running: ps aux | grep java
4) Optionaly if Weblogic process still running: kill -9 procesID
Start
5) Start OBIEE Services (C++ components): nohup [MiddlewareHome]/user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/bin/startWebLogic.sh
6) Close putty session and wait until Weblogic is up. -> you can check it in user home: e.g. /home/obi/nohup.out : log should end with : <Server state changed to RUNNING> <Server started in RUNNING mode>
7) Start OBIEE (C++) processes : [MiddlewareHome]/instances/instance1/bin/opmnctl startall
8) [MiddlewareHome]/instances/instance1/bin/opmnctl status -l     Verify that all processes are running

The problem is that some of my workflow services are down including Notification Mailers,Service Components,Background Engines,Purge but the 2 services that are running are Agent Listeners and Control Queue Cleanup.

Definitely you can. On some operating system (like Windows), if relinking is part of the patch then you cannot apply patches unless Application services are down.
Whenever we apply a patch, we enable maintenance mode through adadmin, this would stop users from accessing the application during patch installation. However, you still can use "adpatch options=hotpatch" to apply a patch without enabling maintenance mode.

Customized massage when OBIEE (OPMN) services are down.

We have OBIEE 11g installed on Weblogic 10.3.3.0 and we have to have an outage message when either BI presentation Service or BI server goes down.
Basically redirection to different URL or customized HTML page.
I believe there is a customization which possible in weblogic.

This is a great question and it can be handled in a few different ways.
1.) You could modify the web.xml configuration file of the analytics web appliction for OBIEE. the web.xml file is located in teh /web/ folder for the main OracleBIServer. Remember, the analytics application (OBIEE Presentation Services) is just a Java application running in a container, so you can modify the deploy descriptor file to react to a 400 or 500 error. You get the 500 error when the Presentation Services component of OBIEE in OPMN is down. Here is a link on what you need to do for the web.xml file after you locate it (restart the BI Server and components afterwards. you may even need to redeploy the /analytics web application as well)
Re: Customise Error pages in Weblogic
2.) You could create a script that runs on the server at a short interval to run the opmnctl.bat|sh command and call the specific component to seek the single status of the presentation services comopnent. Parse the status and if it returs "Active" then all is good, if else, use your scripting skills to send a notification via email, etc.
A combination of the two might be plausible as well, I'm not sure of the full requirements you have.

Can't log in with 'admin' + services are down

We can no longer log in to our server with the username 'admin'.. When we type in admin and the password, it just pauses for 10 seconds, and then shakes the login window as if the password was wrong.
Before this problem (on our intel Xserve, OS X Server 10.5.3) we used 'admin' + the password to use Screen Sharing and to log in to the File Server.
We used these services: File Server, Web Server, Mail Server, Printer Server.
Only the Web Service is working now, probably because it's not dependent on passwords etc.
After a Software Update (for Quicktime) and a re-start, we can't log in.
Using the name 'root' and the same password as the 'admin' let's us into the server, but this doesn't work for accessing the File Server.
When we log in as root, and start up Server Preferences, it says there are multiple errors, and there are no users in the Users options
The system.log is full of stuff like:
(org.openldap.slapd[1828]): Exited with exit code: 1
(org.amavis,amavisd[1829]): Exited with exit code: 1

You can use it or learn from it to write your own. You'll want to edit the files it installs as you see fit and change the password to the archive of course. The instructions are listed during the installation. Works fine on Leopard server. By default I believe it does weekly archives but you can change it to monthly or daily depending on your needs.

Content Distributor, deployment Manager and resource services are dead

I am using Fast ESP 5.3 product single node in a window environment. Recently during a SAM patch installation I have restarted ESP and post that I have found below three services status as N/A in System Overview. Even the server was restarted
due to window patching. As these services are down I am unable to create any collection neither am I able to publish any search profile.

Strangely in nctrl status all services are displayed as Running.
These are the work around I have tried:
killed processes from Task manager
Restarted ESP
So is there any possible way to bring these services up.

OBIEE Env is down (URGENT)

We are facing serious issue bring up the OBIEE Env.
We are facing following issue when we hit on the browser
The system cannot communicate with the external server.
1) The Database is up and running
2) The OBIEE service are up and running (UNIX Box)
3) Tried hitting http://Testmachine.net:7777/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard
4) Tried hitting http://<IPAddress>:7777/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard

I am not sure what issue you have but a few questions come to mind.
What are you using for the web server and presentation services, are you using the oc4j containers?
starting at the beginning
user is not root
Your environment variables are set
You can connect from a db client from the box to the db.
The ports are open and not restricted by firewall rules or DMZ settings.
I assume you did a tail -f /{oraclehome}/OracleBI/server/Log/NQServer.log to see if the server services started.
are your presentation services running, do they need a no hup type cmd to keep them going?
when you started the presentation services did you get confirmation that the presentation services were running?
if you used the basic install try open a browser to http://testmachine :9074/ and see if you at least get the oc4j application server page?
Did you check the presentation server logs?

I have installed OBIEE but services are not found

I have installed OBIEE on my home pc and it show successfully installed.
When I click on "Presentation Services" i got " page cannot be displayed"
I tried to see services Control Panel- Administrative tools- Services- I did not find any OBIEE services...in the list running or listed.
If the installation is successful why are OBIEE services not listed on Services list..
Please help me here

LMS 3.1 JRM Service could be down. Check whether JRM services are running.

Jrm service is showing down in LMS 3.1.
When i select RME tab its showing the error " JRM Service could be down. Check whether JRM services are running."
I checked the services.But its running.
We have not changed the host name.
Pls find attached the lms service status as well.

Based on these services, this appears to be LMS 2.x, not 3.1. Post the output of the pdshow command.

Wsm-pm and bipublisher are down

I work with OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and after restart the server I failed to login:
Error retrieving user/group data from Oracle BI server;s User Population API.
The EM shows that bipublisher (which I do not use at all) and the wsm-pm are down.
I tried start up the wsm-pm and got the following error:
MDS-01370: MetadataStore configuration for metadata-store-usage "OWSM_TargetRepos" is invalid.
MDS-01377: Unable to get database connection from data source configured with JNDI name "jdbc/mds/owsm".
weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceDeadException: 0:weblogic.common.ResourceException: Could not create pool connection.
The DBMS driver exception was: IO Error: Socket read timed out.
Operation Start Up on target wsm-pm Failed. Please see error logs for details.
The DB seems to be ok.
I even restart it and its listener.
The lsnrctl status is ok and I also managed to enter as UBI_MDS@UBI.
Any ideas?

from console click on services -> data sources -> mds-owsm
go to the connection pool tab and look for properties here you will see the oracle.net.CONNECT_TIMEOUT=10000 change it to higher value like 20000
and save it and restart the admin and managed server

A Global Catalog Server could not be located - All GC's are down SBS 2011

I have been searching through these forums and manage to find similar errors but am struggling to find an answer that applies to this me.
I seem to be having a number of issues with our SBS. I believe this was originally domain was previously on a SBS 2003 box before being moved to this SBS 2011 box last year, it has been running fine until yesterday. I cant see anything that has changed then
though.
Everything seems to point to DNS although I am struggling to pinpoint the actual cause. The most worrying is when I try to open something on the SBS such as AD sites and services.

I found a few people who have had similar issues that was caused by the "netlogon" service being paused or stopped but in my case it is set to automatically start and is running.
I have also posted this to serverfault (cant post links yet serverfault.com/questions/522691/a-global-catalog-server-could-not-be-located-all-gcs-are-down) added as there may be info there that may help.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hopefully someone out there has come across this before or can offer something in regards to the next steps I should take.

Some troubleshooting ideas:
0. Check if the DCs can resolve each other using their DNSHostName. If not, this indicates some DNS misconfiguration
-- you need to fix that first.
1. Check if the both the DCs are pointing to the same DNS server (or DNS servers that are replica of each
other). Run: "ipconfig /all" and check its output. If not, correct the DNS client settings and run dcdiag after sometime.
2. Check if dynamic updates are "turned on" on the DNS server.
3. Try re-registering the DCs SRV records by either restarting netlogon service or by running the following
command:
nltest.exe /dsregdns

Hyperion System 9.3.1 Services are getting hang... on AIX box.

Dear All,
We have installed & configured Hyperion System 9.3.1 on IBM AIX 5.3 ML-6, 6 dual core CPU & 24GB RAM. Repository database is Oracle 10gR2.
We have scheduled approx 300 Interactive Reporting Jobs in Workspace which has been associated with external trigger events. Once these jobs get executed their output has been imported in the various folders on Workspace.
We are getting following errors in <HYPERION_HOME>/log/BIPLUS/ server_messages_IRJobService.log file when these jobs get executed:

After this Hyperion Services are getting hang. In Workspace - View Job Status – showing that Jobs are executing.

The reason they run quicker the subsequent times, is because the data has already been cached in the system.
You could try the usual tricks to speed the report up:
- move items into POV
- have children and parent in the same row
- arrange dimensions in inverse outline order
- remove excessive formatting
- push report calculations back to the data source
We have found that using lots of dynamically calculated members also slows down reports, so try and limit the number of these.
Hope this helps. If not maybe give us an idea of how the report is created to see if other changes could be made.
