OBIEE - Windows Server 2008

Hi,
Im having trouble atm to find my customer support identifier so im hoping someone could answer me here.
We have Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise Edition on a brand new server. It should have been Windows Server 2003, but it got delivered with wrong specs. Now we have doubts whether to send it back for reinstallation and miss out on a server that we need, or try to install OBIEE so we use it asap. Normally we use OBISE1, but it isn't supported according to Oracle.
In the System Requirements and Supported Platforms for Oracle® Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition document (e10417) it states that OBIEE 10.1.3.4. supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x86 32 bit. A footnote here states that:
Windows and Linux 64-bit support: For the Windows and Linux releases, the Oracle BI EE software is 32-bit. The
software can run on 64-bit processors that support 32-bit emulation. The supported processors are AMD64 and EM64T.
NOTE: Revisions A and B of this guide incorrectly listed Itanium2 as a supported processor.
Does anyone know if Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise Edition fits this description? It's an Intell processer and i don't know if it has emulation.

1. Install the 32Bit version of Java
2. Put the JVM in everyone's Path
3. Configure compatiblity Mode on the Setup program for OBIEE, you must use Windows Vista 2 compatibility mode
4. Configure IIS to have ISSAPI extensions, ISAPI Filters, CGI, IIS 6 Management compatibility, WIndows Auth
5. Configure the default App pool in IIS to support 32Bit applications
6. Run the Installer as Admin, choose default options
7. NOTE: The WIZARD lies about success, check the install.log file at \OracleBI\log for the Truth
8. After Reboot, oc4j will start and the services will be running as system.
9. Change the services to run as you Service Account, Restart services
10. The Wizard will mess up the configuration of the ISAPI plugin
Open IIS Manager
Config an ISAPI restriction for Saw.dll
on my system it is f:\OracleBI\web\saw.dll
Allow the extension path to execute.
11. Restart IIS
12. Configure the Default web site to allow anonymous and windows auth
13. Login using the default credentials as administrator
You may be prompted by both IIS and OBIEE for passwords.
Use your domain ID for IIS, and administrator for OBIEE
14. Configure the Analytics website to require windows auth
RESTART IIS
You will no longer be prompted by IIS, but OBIEE will still ask for user/passwd.

Change the ODBC driver with OCI driver in the connection pool. Download and install oracle instant client if you don't have any Oracle fat client on the machine where is OBIEE.
Good tutorial to install oracle instant client:
http://www.dbatoolz.com/t/installing-oracle-instantclient-basic-and-instantclient-sqlplus-on-win32.html
don't forget to restart all OBIEE services...

• Problems installing OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit

Hi, I'm trying to install OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit (standard edition, SP2), and it's blowing up running the installer. The installer gets past the first couple of "info" screens, but blows up prior to coming to the first "real" screen with an error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Assertion Failed:
Program: ...
File: ../../../src/share/native/sun/font/t2k/t2kstrm.c
Line: 132
Expression: pos <= t->maxPos
Has anyone seen this and/or have an idea how to work around this? Note that I did do the prerequisite download / install of the 2005 Visual C++ 64 bit libraries.
Thanks,
Scott

Just to close the loop on this thread, this does indeed seem to be some sort of font / java issue on our servers. I've been completely unable to get the install to work using the GUI. However, if I run it from command line using the -silent and -response paramaters along with a proper response file, the install went perfectly. I'm going to continue working the SR with Oracle - don't want to be stuck using -silent mode when things get more complicated, but at least now I can move forward.
If anyone else has a better workaround - please let me know. "Silent" mode is workable, but difficult and time consuming.
Thanks,
Scott

• Create ASInstance error on Windows server 2008 in OBIEE 11g instlation

I was installing OBIEE 11g on win 2008, got error at Create ASInstance. Nothing found in log files.
No errors found till this step... Please help....

Hi,
Yes, there is no specific cryptography software for windows server 2008 and whatever u have chosen is correct.
Fom the following error message I could see where the issue arises.
Can't write file : "C:\Users\soladm\sec\local.pse"
I think you have not set the following ENV variable for the SAPRouter admin user (in your case soladm) and hence the sapgenpse tries to import the certificate in the SOLADM user's document folder.
Set the following variables for the user SOLADM and then try to import the certificate as mentioned in the [link|http://service.sap.com/saprouter-sncdoc].
SECUDIR = E:\usr\sap\saprouter
SNC_LIB = E:\usr\sap\saprouter\nt-x86_64\sapcrypto.dll
Hope this resolves ur issue.

• OBIEE installation on Windows Server 2008

Does anyone have OBIEE running on Windows Server 2008? We bought 2 new Dell servers and they no longer sell Windows 2003 licenses. I know only the latest version 10.1.3.4 is supported and only on a 32-bit emulation. I don't think Hyperion Reporting is supported for Windows 2008 which we also planned on putting on the servers.

This isn't a very helpful response to your question, but if the software cannot be run under Server 2008, you do have the option of installing it into a VMWare image on that server, and mapping that image as an IP address, much the same as Oracle's BIC2G image. Not an ideal solution, I know.

• OBI11g installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit)

Hi,
Sorry to pick up this topic again, but my research in the forum and other inet sites doesn't help me so far and my installation will not work.
My Situation:
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) default installlation. The server (HyperV-managed) has 4 GB RAM.
I added a Loopback adaptor and set for the loopbackadapter a fixed IP (10.10.10.10 Subnet: 255.255.255.0).
Entered in the host file (127.0.0.1 localhost and 10.10.10.10 servername)
Installed JDK 64bit
Installed Oracle Client 32bit
Then I tried all three options:
1) Default OBIEE Installation --> start of coreapplication_obips1 has failed. Everything else was fine. I was not able to start the obips1 manually
2) Enterprise Installation --> start of coreapplication_obips1 has failed. Everything else was fine. I was not able to start the obips1 manually
3) Manually installed WebLogic 1033 --> SoftwareOnly installation of OBIEE --> manually start config of OBI Installation --> same result as above!
Perhaps you have some hints for me.
Cheers
Wolfgang

Not in the slightest - I installed five just the other week
All our virtual machines, running 2008 R2 x64. We went for Enterprise Edition, but I believe in CF9 they're both 64-bit anyway. These are the from the build notes I built up:
Install extra roles:
Application Server
Web Server (IIS)
Application Development
IIS6 METABASE Compatibility
Install extra Features:
SMTP Service
Other than that nothing else needs doing. It's worth noting (as a slight but irritating aside) that in 2008 R2 the SMTP service is set to Manual not Automatic, so you'll want to change that unless you want your emails to stop every time you reboot the box.
But the actual install itself was far simpler than CF8 on 2008.

• Window server 2008 64 bit

Hi,
I plan to install and configure the environment in OS window server 2008 64 bit. OBIA 11g 64 bit,OBIEE 11g 64 bit,
Informatica 9.0 64 bit, DAC 7 32 bit. In my database is Oracle Linux 64 bit system.
Plz anyone suggest it is correct environment.
Thanks
Ganesh

You cant use DAC 64bit since there are some installation issues, you have to go with DAC 32bit (ref: ID 973777.1) on 64bit OS.
You can use TNSentries to connect with database from dac.
For any other issues(for DAC or OBIEE or Informatica) you have to go with Oracle Client 32bit on 64Bit OS.
Hope this helps, appreciate if you mark as correct/helpful
BTW: OBIA installers are 32 bit only. The OBIA installer can be run on Windows 64 bit.

• Installation problem on windows server 2008 r2 datacenter edition 64bit

hi
today, i tried to install the current maxdb 7.8 release on my virtual server with a windows server 2008 r2 datacenter 64bit edition os. at the first installation, i got an error message something with "rte runtime error". at this point, the installation stopped.
because of this error, i tried to uninstall the failed installation. this was not possible, in the uninstaller, i didn't see any components, so i can't uninstall.
so i tried to delete the files manually: the entries in the start menu, and the application's path under "program files"... first, i need to kill a process named "serv.exe", that creates a tcp daemon under port 7200... after killing it, the deletion of the dir in program files was successful.
this is very very weird, now my server is "contaminated" with an uncomplete uninstallation of maxdb...
why maxdb 7.8 has problems on windows server 2008 r2 datacenter 64bit edition???
thanks for feedbacks!
regards, jan

> no, because i canceled this virtual server - another method to solve this problem. (i have really no time for things like that..!)
If you take the time to give exact error messages then someone will be certainly able to help
> on windows server 2003, there are NO problems.
Windows 2003 != Windows 2008 - they use a different kernel, a different security system (UAC) and other features that may prevent a succesfull installation in the first place.
I installed a MaxDB 7.8 just today on Windows 2008 R2 and it worked fine.

• Unable to open Office files on SharePoint 2010 sites on Windows Server 2008 R2

Setup: Windows SharePoint Server 2010 sp1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (hosted on VMWare VSphere ESXi 5.1)
Secured using Domain SSL from GlobalSign.
Client OS: Windows 7 Professional 32bit & Windows XP SP3 32 bit
Browsers: IE10, IE9,IE8
Office: Office 2010, Office 2010 sp2 (both 32bit), Office 2007
Problem Description: Only recently, users started having issues with opening Office files (Word, Excel) on SharePoint sites. When you click on an Office file e.g. Word Document, it comes up with the option to select "Ready only" or "Edit"
and choosing either options and re-entering the login credentials results in the
application hanging. If you leave it for a while (about 5 minutes) sometimes the file opens and other times it gives the error "Could not open https://portal.com/XXX/XXX/Document.docx". Even when it opens, it's extremely
sluggish and can't do anything other than end it via Task Manager. Same with excel files.
This happens to all the users all different OS and browsers.
On XP Pro SP3 w/ IE8, when you click on the file, the login prompt keeps popping back up repeatedly and if you click cancel, the file loads up anyway but no way of saving back onto the SharePoint site.
IMPORTANT: One exception is when logged in as a Site Collection Administrator, it
works like a dream bizarrely!!!! Opens, Edits and saves back fine on the SharePoint site.
Have tried following:
1. Repaired Office 2010 Pro; Uninstalled/Re-installed Office 2010 Pro
2. Reset Browser, unticked automatically detect proxy settings.
3. Emptied OfficeOfflineCache on Client
4. Removed WebDAV from the SharePoint server
5. Added Antivirus folder exclusion (We use SEP 11) on the SharePoint Server
Note: PDF files opens fine for all users.
I would immensely appreciate if anybody has got any advice/pointers/suggestions. Desperately out of ideas at the moment.

Hi,
According to your description, When you try to open a Microsoft Office document from a SharePoint 2010 site in a client application, the document opens slowly and you are prompted to enter your credentials multiple times.
This issue may be because of SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) server(s) has Antivirus software installed and the exceptions are not set correctly.
I recommend to remove the antivirus software or set the correct permissions for the antivirus software to resolve the issue.
To configure the antivirus exceptions, please follow the guidelines in the below articles:
KB943620:
Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system.
KB952167:
Certain folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use a file-level antivirus program in SharePoint.
KB943556:
Recommended file and folder exclusions for Microsoft Forefront Client Security or Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010.
Best regards.

• Error While Creating Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT Virtual Machine

I am facing an error while creating a Virtual Machine on the Cloud. The Error is below:
Error (610)
Virtual Machine Manager was unable to find a value for the required Sysprep parameter ProductKey.
Recommended Action
Add the missing Sysprep parameter either to the answer file or to the operating system configuration, and then try the operation again.
My Template does not have the Product Key defined. The OS is Windows Server 2008 SP2 32-BIT. Is defining Product Key absolutely necessary? I have other Templates for other Operating Systems and they are working fine. Only facing problem
with this.
Any help would be appreciated.

In the SCVMM world a 'template' is composed of the following: a VHD with an OS that has been generalized (sysprep), virtual hardware profile (settings), and an OS profile.
The OS profile is required to have a product key. A MAC activation key at the minimum. But the key is required.
If you deploy a VM from a VHD, the same customization assumptions are not at play. Which is why it succeeds. (there is no template in this case, there is also no requirement that the OS in the VHD be sysprep'd).
SCVMM has rules. And lots of things don't make sense until you begin to understand them and play within them. (I am not saying that the SCVMM rules are a good thing, just saying they exist)

• How to install Windows Server 2008 (dualboot) on a PC with Windows 8.1 already on it?

Hi, I bought a new PC with preinstalled Windows 8. Now I need to install Windows Server 2008. Anyone can advise me how to
do it? It has to be in dual boot, in Virtual Machine the display is way too small

You should check out the Boot-to-VHD capability.
Here is how we do it in a lab environment which we got from a Microsoft lab:
-Verify your computer is running Windows 7 or later.
-Verify you have full administrator rights to your currently installed operating system.
-Verify hard disk encryption or other pre-boot security is turned off.
-Confirm that hardware virtualization technology and memory protection are both enabled in your computer's BIOS setup.
Now we just setup the a VHD with an operating system on it (can even use a downloaded server 180 day trial VHD if you are in a rush). Then go to Disk Management and select Attach VHD and point to the file. Note the drive letter that is assigned to the
mounted VHD.
Run a command prompt as administrator and type: " bcdedit /export BCDBackup.bak " to create an exported backup of your boot loader configuration. Now type bcdboot [drive]:\windows.
Now to test your dual-boot configuration, restart your computer and select the new OS boot option.
An optional last step would be when complete to restore your boot loader by running "bcdedit /import BCDBackup.bak" and delete any VHD files.
A more detailed guide written for Windows 7 but still applies for Windows 8 can be found at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/windows-7-boot-from-vhd.aspx
Hope that helps.

• How to install IE8 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter?

Hello.
Can anybody tell me, how to install IE8 on 2008 R2 Datacenter?
I've downloaded this http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer-8-details.aspx for "Windows Server 2008 64-bit and more..", removed IE11, IE10, IE9 from installed updates, and runned "dism /online /disable-feature
/featurename:Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64".
And nothing helps. I've got a message "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system".

you can't "install" IE8 on WS2008R2, nor on Windows7 - because those OS's shipped with IE8.
IE is an OS component, and so when you "upgrade" or "downgrade" IE, you are affecting an OS component.
What this means is that the "IE8" download you are trying to apply, is actually IE8 for WinXP or maybe WinVista.
You can usually "downgrade" Win7 back to IE8, by uninstalling the newer "upgrade" of IE - this causes the OS to automatically attempt to revert to the prior IE version.
This reversion assumes/requires a healthy OS and component store (CBS), including all the pkgmgr file needed to revert to component.
Sometimes, the component store is damaged, or is missing files.
you may need to check the CBS logfiles, and may need to perform SFC /scannow
You may need to use CheckSUR to repair system health.

Hi,
Installing the Oracle 11g R1 CRS on windows server 2008 operating system . It is displaying the folllowing error message
ERROR : OS in Error in starting the OCFS Service
Can any one please tell what could be the issue ..
Thank You

Solved this after some trawling through xml configuration files on the server.
The file C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\owb\j2ee\config\http-web-site.xml contains the reference to keystore.jks:
<ssl-config keystore="*%ORACLE_HOME%*/owb/j2ee/config/keystore.jks" keystore-password="->keystoreadmin"/>
changing this to:
<ssl-config keystore="C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1/owb/j2ee/config/keystore.jks" keystore-password="->keystoreadmin"/>
and the OC4J container starts successfully.
