Is it possible to keep dynamic Column selector in OBIEE Mobile App Designer as like Analytics ?

I was facing the same error after installing the Patches for (Mobile app Designer) and so many restarts of all OBIEE components as well as the server,
nothing worked except the same Error 404 for the last couple of days.
then here goes the path for getting the issue fixed juts now.
1: Verify the Patches applied for the Mobile app Designer
2: followed the blog step by step for the process to get completed.

3:after applying the patches and deploying theOBI Mobile App Designer (MAD) manually using WebLogic configuration the bounce all the services on the OBI (all components)
4:the Run the Security Configuration as described in the blog . it wil give error if the services of console is not started as it awaits for the port 7001 of weblogic
5: after the successful completion of the security configuration restart all bi components on the OBI side and wiat for all the services to come up
now i logged in and click on New Mobile APP it worked as expected and it resolved the issue.

Is there any possibility to view the existing OBIEE reports in Mobile App designer page and edit the same?
Since more reports have been created already,we wanted to view and edit in MAD to make it available for Mobile users.

Hi Rayno,
Did you try to use a different browser and are you at the latest patch of BIMAD?
Mainly if you are on IE I guess the patches fix compatibility with the various version of IE most of the time (Firefox and Chrome are better for that).
I also remember your other issue having the dashboard to display only when all the analysis are loaded, so maybe you have something in your setup (network, proxy, browser version, corporate rules etc.) impacting the user experience of BIMAD (but not only) in such a negative way.
I didn't spend weeks on it but never got BI Server crash because of BIMAD and random java errors (are we really talking about java or javascript?).

OBI Mobile App Designer raises Internal Server Error

Hi,
we are running OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 on a 64-bit environment including OBI Mobile App Designer. We have the problem that two components (mapviewer and bisearch) are not starting automatically, which might cause the problem that we get a 500 Internal Server Error when trying to open the Mobile App Designer.
Before this problem occured we were running the OBIEE sample RPD that comes with the OBIEE installation. At this point in time there was only one component not starting up (bisearch component). Accessing the OBI Mobile App Designer was not a problem at all. After some time we decided to change the RPD in order to have more meaningful data available. Since we changed the RPD we face major issues with this environment.
I tried to start the mapviewer and bisearch components manually in the Enterprise Manager. This worked only for the mapviewer. Before we changed the RPD all the components except bisearch were starting as expected. At this time accessing OBI Mobile App Designer was also not a problem.
A few days ago we were even not able to login to analytics, which told us that user or password must be wrong. I then tried to refresh GUIDs because of the new RPD that has been deployed recently. This resulted in a failure of BI server start after trying to refresh GUIDs with the respective settings in instanceconfig.xml and NQSconfig.ini. After resetting the configuration to the initial state we were able to start the components including BI server. What still remains is the issue with bisearch component and the problem related to OBI Mobile App Designer as mentioned before.
We observed that the log file of the managed server contains some error messages that do at least relate to the bisearch component. We did not find any helpful information to tackle this issue. Any ideas on how to resolve these issues in order to be able to access OBI Mobile Designer again? Due to the fact that OBI Mobile App Designer uses BI Publisher there might be a problem with that.

Error message when I try to publish aa application with BI Mobile App Designer

We had last month a product demonstration of BI Mobile App Designer by Oracle's commercial.
Following this demonstration, I installed and deployed this module on one of our OBIEE server 11.1.7.141014
I thus tested the BI Mobile App Designer product by creating two smartphone applications that worked perfectly.
The problemis that since a few days, I can not access one of my applications from my smartphone.
From OBI, I then load my application and tried to publish it again, but I get the error message :
oracle.xdo.webservice.exception.OperationFailedException: PublicReportService::generateReportParametersDefinition
Failure: Due to oracle.xdo.servlet.data.DataException: oracle.xdo.XDOException:
oracle.xdo.das.DASException: BISvsException on getting a JBIPS member query data.
Then I tried to duplicate my "Mobile App" and rename it and when I tried to publish it I get the error :
French message :
La bibliothèque d'applications n'est pas configurée correctement.
Assurez-vous que le fichier de configuration est défini pour la bibliothèque d'applications.
English message :
The application library is not configured correctly.
Make sure that the configuration file is defined for the application library.
I don't understand what happens and I can't find any solution to this problem in Oracle knowledge base !...
Any ideas ?

Hi Thierry,
In relation to the second error, I have had this before and it related to be below so this may help: Check the following file:
<DOMAIN_HOME>/config/bipublisher/repository/Admin/Configuration/xmlp-server-config.xml
Check that the following line matches were you are trying to publish your apps on OBIEE. The default is normally "Apps Library" but you can name this folder anything you like.
Just change the below line and point to the folder. Restart the services BIMAD.

Nic, for me the iTunes window looks like this, when I connect my iPad 3:
I select the iPad in the "devices" section of the Sidebar (use: "View > Show Sidebar" if the sidebar is hidden).
Click the "Apps" tab in the "Devices" pane.
Scroll all the way down in the Devices pane to "File Sharing" "Apps" section.
Then do I click "GarageBand" to select the documents in the right panel.
Which part is different for you? Perhaps you could post a screenshot?

we have obiee 11.1.1.7.1 on windows 2008 R2.
the installation of obiee 11.1.1.7.0 was in "Simple installation " mode.
Later we applied patches for obiee 11.1.1.7.1
i just recently applied following patch for installing Mobile Apps Designer
17004920, which enables support for BI Mobile App Designer in the catalog, and the Presentation Services UI
17220944, the actual BI Mobile App Designer app, enabled through extending the OBIEE WebLogic domain
but after applying patches, i can see the "Mobile Application " but when i click on icon of mobile application,
nothing happens,
does anyone have idea,

Oracle Mobile App Designer Error 404

Hi,
When i try to access mobile BI i get the following error.
Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
We have installed the Mobile app designer by doing the following steps.
1.Installing patches
16556157 (2GB in size, ~30 min)This single OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 patch set download is comprised of the following:

2 of 6 Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP)

3. Ran the Security Configuration
4. Restarted Services.
Does anyone know how to solve this error? I would greatly appreciate any guidance.

this can happen if you do not follow one important part of the prerequities:
>> Customers who are upgrading from 11.1.1.6.x or customers who have already performed an in-place upgrade to 11.1.1.7.131017, ensure that you enable the JBIPS features as described in "Enabling JBIPS Features" in Oracle Fusion Middleware Patching Guide.
(Applies to the "new" 11.1.1.7.131017 as well es to the "old" 11.1.1.7.1 bundle patches)!
So check, whether the JBIPS features are enabled. If not, enable them.

Mobile App Design

This is a bit out of the realm of Spiceworks, but it's worth a shot.
Does anyone use Appery.io to make apps? I've got a rough draft of an app started, but am getting hung up on several pieces. I'm working through trial/error and self-teaching, and if anyone happens to know what their doing and could lend a hand, I'd much appreciate it. I don't think I'm asking for anything terribly difficult, but I'd like to avoid the $75/month subscription just for their help. Which, I might end up having to do, then cancel back down to the $25/month after their help.
Yes, I've been through their tutorials, but even those aren't written well, and offer so many ways to do the same thing, it makes it rather confusing.

Interaction design point of view

I took a look to almost all video and explanation i found on adobe.com about catalyst, and it seems adobe care about what designer will be able to do with, and how they'll be sharing their work.
My point is that i found in Catalyst a huge tool for interaction design (as ergonomist). I think adobe could push thoses customers to buy it (and i barely can't it gets out !!!). We used to develop our model on illustrator, then make a report inside indesign and then, show and talk about it with our customers.
Here's the first thing : instead of showing statics capture screen, and take a lot of time to explain how this component or this bouton will interract, we'll be able with FC to simply execute the swf file, and say : this is how it will "interract".
2nd point is : as ergonomist, we never can't be sure that our choise on the interface are fine or best. We can just say that's is not bad at all, so let's try it ! So we can spend a lot of time to test some elements of the interface with real user, and understand what's good and what's wrong. With FC, when we (our team of ergonmist) discuss about a behavior of a component, we can say : here's what i think about it, this can do that, and that will come here with a fade in. We'll be able to discuss directly on our component, visually, improving our efficiency and take better choices.
The last point is how we work with the designers and developpers. Usually, designers takes our document, and try to respect the most of it. Sometimes it's easy (when they're no ambiguity about the behavior of the component), and sometimes it's hard (cause the designer understand his own way the behavior, while we were thinking another. Or just because designer produce a lot of terrific design and behavior we didn't specify, and at the end, a lot of thing has not been respect even if it's beautiful or fun). FC allows us to show the designer what behavior will that bouton do, or how this menu can shows up or how he can't shows up.
And all of this changes a lot about our productivity, efficiency, and how we works with our workmate.
So maybe adobe can just speak to this people (the ergonomists) and even improve FC in that way. (we use axure to make some prototype for the users test, and we work on a layer on a jpeg, and spend a lot of time inserting component (often invisible) or hide texte to put just a hyperlink, etc...).
FC is really awesome, and i hope everything i have in my mind about this soft will become true
I just have to thank all the team for the developpement, they're making the software we all missed !

OBI Mobile App designer Patch 17220944

Hello,
I upgraded OBIEE to 11.1.1.7.1 successfully and applied above 17220944. Next, when I tried to invoke WebLogic Configuration Assistant from /Oracle_BI1/common/bin/config.sh it is not providing me any option like Extend an existing WebLogic domain.
Instead of that I'm getting a screen which says create BI system or scale out bi system or extend bi system or update bi domain option. Please point me in the right direction.
OIBEE services are up and running fine.

Which design is best from a performance point of view?

I'm writing a small system that needs to track changes to certain columns on 4 different tables. I'm using triggers on those columns to write the changes to a single "change register" table, which has 12 columns. Beacuse the majority of tracked data is not shared between the tables, most of the columns will have null values. From a design point of view it is apparent that having 4 separate change register tables (one for each main table that is being tracked), would be better in terms of avoiding lots of null columns for each row, but I was trying to trade this off against having a single table to see all changes that have been made across the tracked tables.
From a performance point of view though, will there be any real difference whether there are 4 separate tables or 1 single register table? I'm only ever going to be inserting into the register table, and then reading back from it at a later date and there won't be any indexes on it. Someone I work with suggested that there would be more overhead on the redo logs if a single table was used rather than 4 separate tables.
Any help would be appreciated.

The volumes of data are going to be pretty small,
maybe a couple of thousand records each day, it's an
OLTP environment with 150 concurrent users max.Consider also the growing of data and if you'll put data constantly to an historical db or if the same tables will contain the increasing number of record.
The point that my colleague raised was that multiple
inserts into a single table across multiple
transactions could cause a lot of redo contention,
but I can't see how inserting into one table from
multiple triggers would result in more redo
contention that inserting into multiple tables. The
updates that will fire the triggers are only ever
going to be single row updates, and won't normally
cause more than one trigger to fire within a single
transaction. Is this a fair assumption to make?

I agree with you, the only thing I will consider, instead of redo problem, is the locking on the table that could be generated when logs of different tables will have to be put in a single table, i mean if after insert of a log record you could need to update it....
In this case if 2 or more users have to update the same log you could have problems.

Getting Error 500 Internat Server Error when trying to access Mobile App from OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1

I am getting this error message when I try to open the Mobile App from OBIEE.
After I log in to OBIEE, I navigate to New >> click on Mobile App and get this error message:
Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7 and applied the following patches:
16556157 (OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 patchset, which also requires you to download another patch, 16569379)
17004920, which enables support for BI Mobile App Designer in the catalog, and the Presentation Services UI
17220944, the actual BI Mobile App Designer app, enabled through extending the OBIEE WebLogic domain
Rest everything under OBIEE works fine.
Kindly advise and help.

run the script now
using
C:\app\oracle\product\11.1.1.7.0\fmwhome1\Oracle_BI1\common\bin\wlst.cmd addMADCodeGrants.py t3://localhost:7001 weblogic

Hi
Importing apps into the Apperian platform is very easy. There is no SDK or other limitation that is required for the app to work once deployed with Apperian. Inboarding is a very easy and quick process that requires the binary and some metadata information from the administrator and takes a couple of minutes max.
Apperian also provides a Publishing API (public) that enables one-button integration from a development platform into Apperian. While Oracle BI Mobile App Designer is not yet integrated that way, it is a very quick process that took very little effort with other platforms.
Once inboarded, any process to integrate the app with company policies (via inspection of the app, applying security or adoption policies, integration with corporate identity management, etc.) is done without having to rebuild the app. All in all, it is a very easy process to follow.

Mobile App Best Practice When Using SQLite Database

I have a mobile app that has several views.
Each view calls a different method of a Database custom class that basically returns the array from a synchronous execute call.
So, each view has a creationComplete handler in which I have something like this:

var connectResponse:Object=db.connect('path-to-database');
if(connectResponse.allOK)//allOK is true if connection was succesful
//Do stuff with data
else
//Present error notice
However this seems reduntant. Is it OK to do this once (connect the the database) in the Main Application file?
The do something like FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.db?
And even generally speaking, constants and other things that I would need throughout the app, can be placed in the main app? As a best practice, not technically as technically it is possible.

I figured I wanted several views to use it so made it static and singleton as I only have 1 database
I actually use synchronous calls but there is a sync with remote mysql database function, hence the eventdispatcher
... although I am thinking it might be better to use Async and dispatch a custom event and have the relative views subscribe
