Archiving residence time (length of time before the data is archived) depends on your business requirements. For FI_DOCUMNT, a lot of companies keep 2 years plus current year before archiving. For EC_PCA_ITM, a lot of companies keep at least 1 year plus current year before archiving for reporting purposes.

Placing the same object multiple times

Does anyone know how to place an object multiple times in either Illustrator or InDesign? I have a small graphic that I would like to have repeated (probably hundreds of times) to create a background. I could place it over and over (and over and over and over), but that would be way too labor intensive.
Is there a way to put it in like it is a self-replicating background?

A Symbol, by definition, is stored only once in the file. A Symbol Instance is just a reference. When an Instance is duplicated, only a reference is duplicated.
Evidently Transform Effect--albeit "live"--does not do the same. It actually does create multiple duplicates of the original. The duplicates are "linked" to the original so that if the original changes, the effect is reapplied on-the-fly in response--but it is applied (and the copies made) all the same. Copies of a Symbol Instance, however, are in and of themselves nothing but position/scale references to the original. So Transform Effect is replicating just those references.
I don't really find this surprising. Consider other so-called "live" effects. When you add multiple strokes and fills to a path, you are not just adding position/size references to the path; the added strokes and fills are, in fact, being created--regardless of the fact that they are recreated on-the-fly if you modify the path.
Same way with Pattern fills. The pattern is actually stepped-and-repeated enough times to fill the clipping path to which it is applied. If you reshape or resize the clipping path, the Pattern Fill gets re-built on-the-fly. But it still gets built all the same.
Apply a live Drop Shadow Effect. That raster image acutally gets created. Change the object to which it is applied, or change the parameters (like resolution) of the shadow, and the raster gets deleted and a new one gets created on-the-fly. But it still gets created, and exists in the file until and unless it is changed.
I think of "Expanding" a live effect as nothing more than breaking the "link" between all the extra created stuff (which is there) and the object to which it was applied. I don't think of all that extra stuff as "not existing yet." It exists. It's been drawn. You're just not allowed to manipulate it directly, because it is "linked" to the original so that it will be deleted and re-created if you edit the original. Breaking the link (Expanding) doesn't take long, becaues all that stuff is already created; it's not just a string of concise commands waiting to be created. It's already there. But make an edit to the original and it does take a long time to re-draw, because all the extra stuff now has to be re-created.
Do a Transform Effect on a Symbol Instance. Expand the result. You'll see that what you have is a group of Symbol Instances. And Symbol Instances are just references--commands to "put a copy of that here."
Use a Symbol Instance in some other construct, like for example, a Pattern Fill. Expand the Pattern Fill and you'll not end up with a group of Symbol Instances; you'll end up with a bunch of actual copies of the artwork which the Symbol contains.
Same with a Scatter Brush. Now, I can understand a Symbol not working with a Pattern Brush or Art Brush because of the enveloping that has to go on. But all a Scatter Brush does is position/scale/rotate copies. So I would expect a Symbol Instance used in a Scatter Brush to create Symbol Instances. But it doesn't. Try it. Draw a red circle. Make it a Symbol. Use the Symbol Instance to define a Scatter Brush. Draw a path and apply the Brush. Now doubleClick the original Instance still on the page to put it in Isolation Mode. Change its fill to green. Exit Isolation Mode. The circles on the Brush Path do not update. They are actual copies of artwork, not Symbol Instances. Who knows why? Perhaps it would break other features/behaviors of Scatter Brushes I never use (Wacom tilt?). Or maybe they could have made it work with Symbols, but just didn't. Didn't AI Brushes exist before Symbols? Illustrator's history is full of later features not being well integrated into the pre-existing feature set (ex: LivePaint and Brushes).

Does the QueueSender sends the same message object multiple times to the queue ?If so then the same will be send multiple times right. why do the client retain same object for long time if the expiry time is 0, Please some one help on this .

Ok, that clear now.
If I remember correctly, the format of the database for PSE was changed around version 4. So the error message that Beachcomber was seeing may have been generated by the old database system.
Version 4 used Microsoft Access as the database engine, not sure about version 5. Anyway I am sure that from version 6, the sqlite database engine was used.

Restore iPhone from archived, time-stamped backup

Hi all,
Long story, but after having the battery of my iPhone 5 replaced I now need to restore from an archived, time-stamped backup that iTunes created when I last restored my Phone. Current iTunes version, IOS 8.1.3, up-to-date Windows Vista.
I can't figure out how to get iTunes to see that backup and let me use it ... only the current incremental backup is visible in iTunes.
Any help will be hugely appreciated! TIA - John

Uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes won't have any benefit.
Assuming you haven't done it already go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and tick the box against Prevent iPod, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.
How many folders are listed under %AppData%\Apple Computer?
How many backups under Edit > Preferences > Devices?
This is how my three backups are represented by three folders:
Assuming there are two folders, but only one backup listed I would close iTunes, copy the entire Backup folder to another location for security, then rename the folders so that the dated folder replaces the current one. In the example above I would probably add -Bad to the second folder name, and then remove -20141204-010305 from the third. When you restart iTunes it should be possible to restore the data from your older backup set.

Please explain the purpose behind data object archiving so that I can suggest proper solution.
Otherwise, the easiest solution for archiving dataobject and its contents is through icommand command line utility. See the documentation of icommand export to see how you can export data object definition and its contents to a file. As this is a command line utility, you can put this in your script/batch file to execute it periodically to take the back up of the dataobject contents.

Can I turn off Macbook while Time Capsule is archiving Time Machine backup to a USB drive?

My Time Capsule is archiving my Time Machine backup to a USB drive attached to it. I have initiated this process on my macbook (on the same lan with the Time Capsule), on which I am monitoring the archiving progress on the Airport Utility. Still almost a couple of days to go... Can I turn off my Macbook, or will that interrupt the process of archiving?

If LaPastenague is willing to do a "test", then we will all know more.

The archive is happening.. I turned off the computer it was setup from.. running Mavericks and latest utility once I got it started. I have been checking from v6 utility on Mountain Lion.. and it is excruciatingly slow. But is running.
I can check the progress but v6 utility is utterly and completely useless.. it continually shows the same numbers.
v5 utility does show it is crawling along.

Look, look, there is a tiny blue fleck in the progress bar!!
v5 utility shows the actual progress. Actually tells you total and amount backed up so far.
Amazing how advanced v5 utility is over v6.
The estimate of 10hours is probably correct at the present rate of progress. I suppose for 500GB, around 50GB/hr is about what we expect from TM backups etc.
I will post another picture in an hour and probably kill it then before I die of watching paint dry.

Referencing one object many times

First, REF can't replace good old foreign keys. After:

we have "dangling REF's" in products (in nested table spareList).

says that using REF's in relational databases we make "The Second Great Blunder":
- "The blunder consists of mixing pointers and relations"
- "The Second Great Blunder undermines the conceptual integrity of the relational model in numerous ways"...
"The First Great Blunder" is to equate object classes and relational variables,
simply speaking - to have object tables (tables in which each row represents an object).
Without "The First Great Blunder" (object tables) we can't make "The Second Great Blunder" (using REF's),
but we can have object tables without REF's.
The "proper way" (in Date's sense) of how to use "object-relational" features is - to use object type as domain.

00:00 also not allowed in the output :(The Calendar object represents a particular moment in time - it does not have a format and it always has a time portion. Do not use the toString() method to display it - if you use the System.out.println() method to display it, the toString() method is being still being called. Format the display using SimpleDateFormat as suggested.

Backup/archive Time Capsule to cloud?

I'm using a 4th generation Time Capsule to backup my two Macs via Time Machine. Is there a reputable cloud-based service that will automatically backup/archive only the Time Capsule?

... just to clarify - the Time Capsule is solely used for Time Machine backups and Wi-Fi provision. There is no "non Time Machine" user data on the device.

Ad objects sync time

Hi,
what is the time of directory objects sync.
Is it 15 min default?
Example: multisite domain (10 DCs):
1. 5 users created on site 1
2 5 users created on site 2
3. they are added to a group on site 10
4. 5 computers from site 4 added as a group members of site 1
What is the sync time in the examples above?

what is the time of directory objects sync.
Replication of AD Objects between domain controllers in a site is "Instant". However intersite replication (I mean replication between sites) depends on your configuration. I configured mine to be 60 minutes because I needed it that way. The default
is 180 minutes however.

Thanks for your response. I did go through the links that you have posted. I do not have any problem in adding the stock transfer through DIAPI. My problem is that if the addon that i have developed gets disconnected, what happens is like only the udo data from the user defined form gets added and the stock transfer does not work. Hope i made my point clear.

Selection objects and Time Dimension

I have instantiated QueryClient object using the query manager. I have 5 dimension in my MOLAP cube where one of the dimension is TIME dimension. I create a selection object for each dimension and apply the selection array to the queryClient object. I create selection objects by using its constructor which takes dimension unique id as argument. I get OLAP Source not found error when I take this approach. When I do create a selection object by queryClient.createQueryAccess.getSelection("DimUniqID") for time dimension only, everything works fine and I see results. What is special about selections and time dimension ? Can anybody throw some light on this or there is some flaw in my understanding ?

I need to Generate the xml file with JAXB. JAXB requires the Calendar class for the Calendar class. So i am converting the Date Object into the claendar Object as follows.

It was taking the default Time zone and creating the XML element as

But i need hireDate="2000-02-29" without the time zone.
In server side it accepts the "yyyy-mm-dd" formate only.

Timer class object set time

I want to be able to set the timer to a specfic time. How can I do that?
ActionListener current = new CurrentTimeLabel(); Timer timer = new Timer(60000, current); There are the objects;
timer.start();
timer.restart();
timer.setInitialDelay();I want to be able to set the timer to a specific time, for example 5 seconds.
timer.setTime(5000); If there is actually something that works like my fictional setTime() object that i just came up with to help describe my problem.

There is nothing like that in the API notices. I can not believe they do not have that object ; that is , after the timer is running you can set the its current time.
For example if I construct a Timer like the following;
Timer timer = new Timer(60000, actionlistener);If the current time is 30000 and I want it to be 20000(meaning that the next action event does not get fired for another 40 seconds instead of the current 30 seconds) I should be able to set it to 20000.
All I can do right now is stop the timer reset the initial delay and then start the timer again. The problem here is that while I am waiting for the timer to start again after setting the initial delay an action event does not get fired until the timer starts again.
I have a timer set to be fired every 60 seconds. The problem involves is that I want it to be fired when the computer's clock reaches 00 seconds every time.
What I have done is not to start the timer until the clock is set to 00 seconds. This works fine but over the long run the timer and the computer clock get out of synchroniztion(meaning the computer clock is 20 seconds and the timer is at 25 seconds; I need these to be the same all the time). What I have done right now is what I said above ; that is, every time an actionevent is fired is check and see if the computer clock and the timer are equal if they are not then I stop the timer set the inial delay to the difference in time and then start the timer again. Again this works but if there is a difference then while the timer is getting reset it misses one actionevent being fired. The timer is set to be fired every 60 seconds if there is a difference then on the next minute does not get fired because by setting the intial delay does not start the timer unitl the next minute, meaning the next minute does not have an action event fired when it should have been fired.
The simple solution is to set the timer to a specific time. For example, if the clock is at 15 seconds and the timer is at 00 seconds while reset the timer to 15 seconds; that way an action event never gets missed while trying to reset the timer. It would be a simple object to program and have in that class but it does not exist for some reason. Is there someway I can add an Object .setTime() to the Timer class. So I can program timer.setTime(15000);.
I am guessing only the Java people can add objects to the API classses.
