Object automatically shifts a pixel on select Indesign CS6 8.0.1

Whenever I try to select an object, it automatically shifts. Usually straight up, sometimes to top left. Im on a macbook pro retina, brand new, used less than 2 weeks. Same thing happens using a magic mouse, and also when using a wired mouse. Thanks in advance!!!!

I don't know what it means, but the crashed thread is making the same call: 511 com.adobe.InDesign.Print 0x17bf6703 GetPlugIn + 497427 more than 500 times. Are you exporting to PDF, or printing?

InDesign cs6 crashes when exporting objects with drop shadows to interactive PDF

I am using the trial version of InDesign CS6 on a mac OSX 10.7.4 I need to export my document as an interactive PDF. I have found that the export works fine so long as none of the objects within my document have a drop shadow. However, if I add a drop shadow to any object (text, images, or video) InDesign will crash when I try to export. I am adding the drop shadow by selecting the object and then choosing Object > Effects > Drop Shadow. Is there another method I should be using to add the shadow if I want to export to an Interactive PDF?

Hi Peter, thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried creating a new blank project and adding one text object with a drop shadow and then exporting to Interactive PDF, and I experienced the same result. I tried replacing my preferences as you suggested and found that it did not have any affect.
I continued developing my InDesign document without using any drop shadows and began to experience the same type of crashing under two more circumstances. 1. When relinking assets in my Links panel. 2. When exporting to interactive PDF with interactive objects that are being clipped (I get a warning telling me I have clipped objects before I export; when I click export I experience the same crash.) I have tried exporting the same file to a print (non-interactive) PDF and experienced no crashing.
I thought I should mention that I am using a retina display mac book pro with 16GB RAM. Could my graphics cards or the configureation of my machine be causing my issue?

InDesign CS6 resolution for pixel documents not the same

I have just opened in InDesign CS6, a document made originaly in CS5.5. This document is in pixels. At 100%, the document should be pixel for pixel with my monitor (iMac 27" at about 104 ppi), but it seems it is more at 100% if you calculate at 72 ppi. So a document of 980 pixel wide measure 13 inches on my screen! This is different from the previous way of showing pixel documents. And I can't see any preference that could bring back the resolution to the old way of showing the scaling.
In Adobe Acrobat, you have preferences to control this.
This count as a bug for me.

This is truly, completely, insanely, incomprehensibly, and unfortunately, TYPICALLY Adobe. I wish with all my heart they didn't have a monopoly on creative tools the way they do. They are the Microsoft of Creative tools. Look at us, we have to do terminal style code changes to make a product look the way it should?! THIS IS CRAZY! If you are still reading. Let me offer a word of advice: We want the power of In Designs grid and guide creation, BUT can we have the simple, pathetically-normal-to-expect ability to have new objects snap to pixels?!!? I know this looks like a teenager wrote it, with excalmation marks, un restrained exasperation and ALL CAPS, but i'm just finished. I draw a square, the edges are fuzzy. I have to go to the inspector and nudge the 0.5 px off the square. Even then, it soemtimes doesnt do it. Can you image the scenario that MAYBE UI AND UX designers would like to have, oh I dunno, WYSIWYG!? I'm trying to figure out what is going on through your heads when you're designing a program with UI UX designers i mind, technally, it's being made by, oh i dunno... UI/UX designers?!? But the funny thing is, the adobe interface is beautiful. How on earth did you design that with blurry lines all over the place?
Have you seen how type renders in Indesign at "Actual Pixels"?! Have you seen how the elegant forms of Helvetica Neue which we all know so well is output to look like it's done a bag of Ketamin? Fonts sizes as pixels in InDesign CS6

How do you set text as pixels is CS6? I've created a new web doc - everything is in px except for fonts sizes. We need to set text in px so we can tell the programmers what size the fonts should be for programming. You could do this in InDesign CS5, why is it not longer available in CS6?

Photoshop is a pixel editor, and InDesign is a layout application, and they have essentially nothing in common. I have no idea at all what Photoshop is measuring when you spec type in pixels, but the size and measurement value remain constant relative to the size of the image when you change the resolution values. If you spec the type in points and change the resolution, the type will remain the same size relative to the image, but the measurement value will change in reverse proportion to the resolution change.
This isn't directly related to type, but it might help you undeerstand the relationship between Photoshop and ID. Although you can list a resolution, it has no meaning inside photoshop itself and only becomes relevant when you place the object on a page (as in ID). ID reads the pixel dimensions, divides by the resolution and determines how large that is at 100% scale in units of measure, like inches or points. Becasue there are 72 points in a postscript inch it was convenient to map pixels to points as a ruler unit when web layout functionality was "added" to ID, but it really isn't working in pixels, it's just a relabeling of the rulers. When you place an image, in a pixel-measured document, if you want it to come in at 100% and have the size on the rulers match the pixel dimensions you have to save in Photoshop at 72 ppi.

Which version of Photoshop do you use?
If you have CS6 Etended the Measurement Log might provide some options to store and print the information separately, but if I interpret your wuestion correctly (for example that by »object« you mean »Layer«) I think a Scripting approach would be best.
Scripts can be used to automate tasks with more options regarding conditionality than Actions by using JavaScript-, VB- or ApplaScript-code to control Photoshop.

Use the bookmarks library. You may use Shift +Click, and Ctrl + Click to create groupings of selected bookmarks to drag and drop.

Indesign cs6 freezes/crashes on Windows 7 64 bit selecting desktop folder

Dear All,
I'm experiencing a very strange behaviour of Indesign CS6 who freezes/closes in specific situations connected with desktop folder.
I try to explain the issue:
I got a brand new PC with Xeon CPU E3-1246 3.5 GHZ, 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit and Clean installation of Indesign CS6.
Indesign works great and fast, but everytime I try to open a file (from file ---> open) and select the desktop folder the program stop thinking for 1 second than closes down without crashing, without errors without anything.
Same thing happens when I try to insert a picture in a frame selecting it from the desktop folder (only this folder, all the others work perfectly).
I couldn't find anything useful on the internet to solve this kind of problem.
Does anybody had the same problem? How did you solve that?

In InDesign CS6 I cannot select any items in my onscreen toolbars or windows.

I am using InDesign CS6 and within the last day cannot select half of the items in my quick select toolbar (the pointer tool and direct selection tool), as well i cannot select any of the options in my windows (pages, layers, styles, colours, etc), and when I have something selected, I cannot deselect it. Can anyone help me?

High quality images in indesign CS6 get pixelated

I have been using indesign CS6 for a while now. Recently, when I place some images into a document, they are pixelated. They are high quality images with a high resolution. Even when I shrink it down considerably to fit in the document, it still gets pixelated. I have "view High Quality" checked & the image prints pixelated as well. When I preview the image, it looks fine. Any ideas?

Can you post a screen shot of the image placed on ID to have an idea of what you're looking at? If possible can you share a sample image via dropbox?

This is how I'd approach it - it captures a 'place' or 'paste' of a blob of text. It is not perfect - it will also 'fire' if you simply copy some text from one frame in the document to an empty frame, but I don't think that would be an issue in most cases.
Create a page item on the pasteboard; use the Active Page Item Developer palette to set the List of Subjects to * (just an asterisk), and the Event Filter to subjectModified* ('subjectModified' with an asterisk appended). Set the attached ExtendScript to the script shown below.
I've not tested this heavily - it's only a proof of concept...

In Indesign CS6 I export an artboard to TIFF with the sdk's funtion SnapshotUtilsEx- ExportImageToTIFF(iStream) and, the resulting file is one pixel too large in the X, leaving a transparent strip on one edge. Any idea if there is a bug in the sdk?

An easy example to prove this bug of Indesing CS6: I create a psd with Photoshop CS6, with width 505 pixels, height 317 pixels and a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. This psd is placed on a page in InDesign CS6. Then I try to export it as a tiff with the functions:
fSnapshotUtilsEx->Draw(flags,fullResolutionGraphics,greekBelowPtSize,enableAntiAliasing,tr ansparencyQuality,abortCheck,pVPAttrMap,bDrawNonPrintingObjects);
and
SnapshotUtilsEx-> ExportImageToTIFF (iStream)
The resulting tiff has a width of 506 pixels (one pixel more in width). It will happen the same if we start with a width of 507 pixels, etc.
This error does not occur with Indesign CS5, nor Indesing CC.

Indesign CS6 tool selection problem

I can't select tools within indesign CS6 on my Macbook pro retina, running windows 7 via bootcamp. I have tried deleting preferences which had no effect. Any ideas?

Object that updates in multiple places in InDesign CS5?

Is there a function in Indesign which you can create a master object with any attributes... lets with say images and text... then have the ability to place it in the doc in multiple instances and be updatable from one place?
I have a larger document that I need to create in which a repeating callout box has to be inserted about 20-30 times in the doc. It may require some changes at some point, and I don't want to have to update every instance of the box every time there is a change to be made.
Some of this could be accomplished with object styles I know. But you can't attach images to object styles, can you?
I am looking for something like a master page, but for an insertable object... does this exist in InDesign?

Background: We are using TDMS HCM PA PD Expert package to transfer all of the HCM data
We are using TDMS 4.0 SP 5. We are trying to do the Configuraition in Identify Objects for Transfer and Start Data Selection.. In this phase, we are encountering the issue of 'choose to confirm to trigger data selection'. The only option in this activit is'confirm batch' and 'confirm online'. Even if we press the button, we are still encountering issues. What selections then or values can we use?Thank you. Kindly see screen shot

Hello Meinard,
There could be two issues:
First check if you have assigned the target ranges for the dialog user which you are using to select data from sender system. You need to maintain target ranges in activity 'Define target ranges for users' which you can find under activity "Configuration and Utilities in Control system".
Secondly, there could be authorizaton issues for the sender system user. Check for any authorization issue in SU53 in sender system for the user which you used to logon to sender system.
