Object Imported from Illustrator Changes When Rendering

I am creating a page that can be seen here:
http://www.jalc.org/springswing2010/
The problem is, when I import the lightning bolt from Illustrator into Flash, the two pointed corners in the lightning bolt are sharp and pointed.  However, after rendering they become rounded.  Can anyone explain how to avoid this?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Bob, pulling in the gradient from Illy isn't working for me. I'm using ID 5.5 for Windows. I'm trying to paste in a button and it comes in as pieces and I cannot resize it properly (the gradient goes whacko). I tried just doing a simple box with a gradient so I could recreate the button, but the swatch does not appear in the panel. I tried changing the preferences and that just made it come in as a bitmap instead of a vector. What am I doing wrong?

  • Smart Object import from Illustrator to Photoshop ( CS5 )

    Hello !
    Here's the thing:
I have an icon in Illustrator and I'm designing a website in Photoshop so I copy and paste that icon as a Smart Object in Photoshop and everything is perfect but when I resize that Smart Object is not perfect anymore.
    *The document is 200 %
-The first icon is the original file I import from Illustrator and It's 100%
-I resize the second icon to 70%
Now look at those gray light lines around the second icon. Why is that happening ? How can I fix it ?
    Thanks !
PS: Sorry for my English I just speak a little bit.

    Hi, again, Sunniess.
Now look at those gray light lines around the second icon. Why is that happening ? How can I fix it ?
You may be sorry you asked. I didn't have time to bore you with the answer to that earlier.
The gray lines are being generated in Ps, so this should be of interest to anyone who works with small images in Ps.
When you export from Illy using the clipboard, Illy rounds to the nearest whole pixel. A rounded rectangle is created in Illy  measuring 73x30 pixels.   If you scale the rectangle 70% in Illy, the new rectangle measures 51.1 x 21 pixels. But it pastes into Ps as 51x21 pixels.
If you import the 73x30 pixel image into Ps and scale 70% , instead of 51x21 pixels, you will get either 52x21, 53x21, 52x23 or 53x23 pixels, depending on where the Reference point locator (highlighted below) is set in the Transform Toolbar. The gray lines are the extra pixels.
Why the extra pixels? The extra pixels are a form of dithering. When you scale the  73x30 imported image 70% in Ps,  you get 51.1 x 21 pixels, same as in Illy. But Ps doesn't round to the nearest pixel. It creates fractional pixels. In the screenshot below,  the rectangle is rendered 52x21. The lines at top and bottom are sharp because the pixel height is a whole integer, 21. But the width is 51.1. There's a decimal fraction. The gray vertical bar at right is how Ps represents fractional pixels. The .1 of 51.1. Ps can't actually make .1 of a  pixel black. So instead it makes 1 pixel .1 black by assigning 10% opacity.
If the Reference point locater is set as below, you get a different result. Now the rectangle renders at 53x23 pixels. You now have gray rows of pixels at top and bottom, as well as both sides. The height is still really 21 pixels, but since it is transforming from the center and it's an odd number, Ps splits a pixel, assigning .5 black pixels at the top, and .5 black pixels at the bottom, which it represents with 2 rows of pixels at 50% opacity. Similar thing with the ends, except they are lower opacity because they represent smaller fractions of a pixel. This pretty much reproduces what your icon looks like.
Below is a closeup of the above rectangle over a blue background. The  rows of pixels aren't actually gray. They are semi transparent black.
The point is, how the Reference point locator is set can have unexpected influence on the results, particularly when downsizing small images. And will be most noticable on straight vertical or horizontal edges.
As if that weren't enough, there are options in your General Preferences that affect the results of resizing images.
I copied and pasted your icon into Ps, then scaled it 70% at two different settings.
The top is Bicubic, the botttom is Nearest Neighbor.
A significant difference. And this interacts with the Transform Locator setting to further confuse the issue. But if you resize in Illy you avoid all this.
If you resize in Ps, it's good to be aware of this stuff. This all happens in Ps. It really has nothing to do with Illy. If you must scale in Ps and get noticable rows of fractional pixels, it's easy enough to select the rows and just delete them. Or fill them. That's essentially what Illy does when it copies to the clipboard.
Your English is fine. I hope mine makes as much sense.
    Peace,
    Lee

  • Pixelated Smart Object import from Illustrator to Photoshop ( CS3 )

For years everything was glorious when I imported graphics from Illustrator to Photoshop.... And now all of a sudden, every time I import/paste into photoshop it is horribly pixelated. The only way I can solve this problem is to save in illustrator as an eps and then open the document in photoshop (boo).
Have I changed some preference on accident?
Thanks for your time with this, and if this has already been answered I apologize I searched prior to posting,

  • Error: Gaps in Smart Objects imported from Illustrator

    Hi,
I would like to report an error in Photoshop CS6 (the latest patches have been installed).
I've only recently purchased CS6 and have never posted in this forum before.
Apologies in advance if this isn't the correct procedure for reporting errors.
I'd be grateful if someone knows a workaround as this error makes imported Smart Objects useless in Photoshop CS6.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Single object imported from Illustrator broken down into Graphic Frames

Whenever I try to copy and paste a gradient layer from frmo Illustrator, it appears correct- but is broken down into 4 uneven 'graphic fames' - when I resize, it gets allmessed up..

  • Importing from Illustrator into AE

    Hey there,
Having some issues when importing from illustrator to AE.  I have a load of text grouped into words in AI and when I import the file into AE I chose 'composition - cropped layers' so I can move around each object in AE.  However in AE the layers show up in the project window as little black boxes.  When I open the composition of the AI file it's just a blank composition with all the layers in the timeline window.  I don't know why the text isn't showing up?
In AI all of the layers are individual layers (they aren't all under layer 1 in the layer window).  Can't work out what I'm doing wrong.
    Hope someone can help!
    Thanks,
    Abi

    Hi there.
I really have no idea what the issue is..  I did the following.  Copied my text from notepad, pasted it into AI, changed it to 'arial', TYPE > Create Outlines, ungrouped the text, grouped each word, went to LAYERS > OPTIONS > Release to layers (Sequence), in AE I imported the AI file as 'Composition - Cropped Layers.  Then it just came up as the blocks.  As a simple test I went through the same process with a new file with simple the word HELLO and it worked fine.
The only cause I can think of is maybe because I copied the text from Notepad?   The font I originally chose in AI was Helvetica Neue.  Maybe the font wasn't applicable to AE?
    Strange!
    Thanks,
    Abi

  • Jumpy, choppy animation (imported from Illustrator)

Hello, I am having a problem with some vines I imported from illustrator having very choppy animation. Every other animation in my project thus far has been smooth, except for the vines which I just want to move slowly and slightly as if blowing in the wind. I did the same effect for some leaves in the background which animate fine, so its something to do with the vines in particular.
I imported all the shapes from Illustrator (the vine shafts, leaves, and thorns) which came into flash as "drawing objects". I then turned every piece into individual movie clips, and then combined everything further into 4 seperate movie clips I could animate. The animation is very simple, just rotating back and forth ever so slightly accrost 250 frames.
I uploaded the .swf in question which you can download here: http://www.filedropper.com/splashscreen10
I appreciate any and all help! Thanks!

From the sound of it, I'm having this exact same problem. Does anyone have suggestions for how to solve this problem?

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

  • Why do vector objects copied from illustrator cc don't stay the same dimensions when pasted into pho

I think the problem started with the last updates. The normal work flow of copy and paste no longer functions correctly.
Photshop is changing the dimensions of vector artwork copied from illustrator, and pasted to photoshop.
If I start with a 6in x 6in vector shape in illustrator, and select copy, I should be able to go into photoshop, select file and then new,
and the document should automaticly get the dimensions from the clipboard. For some reason that 6in x 6in opens a 0.6in x 0.6in document.
Even if i manually change the document to 6in x 6in, anything else I copy from illustrator larger than 6in x 6in gets its dimensions changed to fit inside the document. I cant copy and paste a 10in x 2in vector into the 6in x 6in document without photoshop changing the dimensions
so it fits inside the document. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks.

illustrator has no dpi, that info wont copy to the clip board. There are setting within illustrator you can set so when you do raster something in illustrator, you can pick what dpi it will raster it to. But even if you raster something in illustrator, the dpi info doesn't copy to the clipboard.
The Photoshop: File, New, opens a window with the default set to pixels and 72ppi. When you have something stored on the clipboard, First you change the pixels to inches, cm, mm, anything but pixels, the dimensions stay locked in and Then you can change the ppi to anything you want.
The issue once the file is opened, and you try to copy and paste in something larger than the canvas still needs corrected. I have found a quick work around. After you paste it, before you select ok or hit enter, look at the info where it displays the % of the size of what's being placed.
It shows it at less than 100%, so change it to 100% (and constrain) and its back to original size.

  • After Effects Crops layer size when importing from Illustrator file

I don't know if this was reported before, but when importing an Illustrator CS3 file with multiple layers as a cropped composition, some of the paths/objects get cropped horizontally - and the cropping is not even on both sides either (not that it makes any better or worse)- it is more cropped on the left side.
I really would love an answer to this because I work mostly in that fashion, and it will be a pain if I lose this feature.
    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

Yes, I made sure of that.
In this specific case every other layer got cropped, independent of the size of the path, for example - in one layer I have the background that did not get clipped, the next has an oval (smaller than the first) - that got cropped; next some text - not cropped following that a cloud shape get's cropped and so on.
Right now I do not have time for doing some tests, but I'll do as soon as possible.
This has been my favourite workflow for client logo animation and I have been craving for new features in this feature such as sub layers becoming pre-comps etc.

  • Animating 3D objects imported from Photoshop

I did a video project for a friend a while back in which I used PS to create a 3D object layer, then imported it to PP.  I was somehow able to rotate the object on the x,y, and z axis, and it maintained its extrusion depth and other shape properties.
The first problem is that I forgot how I did it, and am trying to do the same thing with a new project.  The second problem is that I deleted that old PP file (but kept the final clip), so I can't go back and, in essence, reverse engineer the process.
I have attached a link showing the old final clip.
If anyone can help me figure out how to recreate this effect, it would be greatly appreciated.

Premiere Pro can`t do that. Maybe you can save the logo in a .ai from illustrator, and export it to After Effects. In Ae you can create a new composition, import the file.ai, able the 3D Layer and change renderer from classic 3d to Ray Traced 3D.
And you will able to add extrusion depth and rotation from z,x and y.

  • Problem with jpeg images imported from Illustrator

Hi, i am kind of new with Premire and video, though have experience in web design and coding, but i have noticed a weird problem with premiere pro cs 5.5  when i  import jpeg pictures and put them as intro before the video that where done in adobe illustrator and have vectors and stuff, the quality of the image gets pretty bad and blurry...i searched through the internet looking for clues on what to do like changing to png, tiff formats but nothing has helped so far....any ideas on what to do. So when i import jpeg, png images from illustrator (that have vectors or illustrations) do i have to do something special with it, or import it in some special format??? i would appreciate the help.
This is how the image looks on youtube:

Anyway here is the video with its poor image quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oMNzXAZ8Y&feature=youtu.be
THANX guys would appreciate the help!!!

    hiya.
video likes 72 dpi ( though some will say it doesnt matter .. thats a long story ). basically video 'shows' 72 dpi ( basically what the monitor resolution is...typically 72 dpi ).  As you know from print and dimensions, there is a relative sorta thing with byte count ( file size in bytes ), ppi ( I usually say dpi but in video its ppi ....same thing basically )..., and dimensions ( width x height ).
soooo , as you know in print and web stuff...there is a relationship between number of dots or pixels, dimensions in inches or pixels, and overall byte count of file size....
That said, in "print" it is usually best to go with 300dpi.. In video it is best to go with 72 ppi.....
Also, in print and going offest press.. its nice to go with cmyk ( for color separations ).. but in video and web its best to go with RGB.
The video stuff doesnt deal with vector stuff... it just sees and deals with bitmapped stuff...vector stuff is a mathematical sorta thing whereas video stuff is just plain old bitmaps ( like BMP, TIF, JPG, etc )...
Ideally your still images and graphics in a video editing program would be bitmapped rgb 72 ppi.. and match exactly the dimension of your video format ( eg. 1080p ).  That said, it is normal to have LARGER images ( still images and graphics ) than your project dimensions if you PLAN ON SCALING AND MOTION )... like, your original graphic or pic can be larger than the project if you plan on scaling it down over time to make it look like you are zooming out in the video ....
To get the best results of a graphic or picture in a video is to have it exactly the project size ( eg. 1920x1080 px at 72 ppi for full HD ).
soooooo.... if you convert your vector to bitmap, save as psd or tif or something... at 72ppi , with the dimensions in inches or pixels that equals the video ( 1920x1080 for example )... you will see what you want in your second sample ( the original )...
ps.. you can import layers to the video if you wanna do a psd file and have ONE of those layers the one you use in your video ...can label it something like " video layer " ... whatever...

  • Import from Illustrator?

So I see that there's a Photoshop CC Connect feature in Reflow. Bypassing the issue of how well it works, wouldn't it make sense to extend this functionality to Illustrator soon?
Designs often come from working in Illustrator or passing PDFs from elsewhere through Illustrator and I see more of a correlation between html-css objects and Illustrator's vector objects than raster art. If a realtime connection isn't feasible then at least an import feature could save us a lot of time. Creating entirely within Reflow is still slower than Illustrator and there's no other form of import (html, etc.) available. There's also no direct way to go from Illustrator to Photoshop to then connect to Reflow.

    It says here - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-7f7c a.html#WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-7f54a"
"Create your document in Illustrator CS5 using one of the Video And Film document profiles. In addition to creating a document at the appropriate size for video or film work, this creates a document with two artboards: one at the appropriate frame size, and one much larger. When you bring such a document into After Effects, the area outside the smaller artboard isn’t cropped and lost; it’s retained outside of the composition frame. This only works for an Illustrator document with multiple layers imported as a composition."
Ok I just tested this with a new document and its correct it doesnt crop however for some reason in the document I am working on the outside artboard has disappeared.  ANyone know why?

  • Importing from illustrator

im having a problem moving a file from illustrator to flash.
i can get the file to move but part of the file is an object with a
pattern swatch as a fill and when i import it into flash there are
some gray x's that show up. i dont want to rasterize the object
because it has a transparency to it that turns white when
rasterized. Anyone know how to solve this?

Make sure that all your elements are on separate layers in Illustrator. Import as a composition retaining layer size then use tools like Puppet Pin or effects like Mesh Warp to distort the boundaries of the layer so thy stretch up and down like rubber.
Animating the actual vector path can be done using the techniques Mylenium suggested but it would be far more difficult and time consuming and you'll loose things like gradient fills and Illustrator effects. As long as you have continuous rasterization turned on you can stretch and bounce one or all of your  Illustrator layers to your hearts' content without any worries about pixelization.
Take a alook at this tutorial by Angie Taylor. It shows how she uses Puppet Pin to make bottles dance.

  • CHOPPY IMPORT FROM ILLUSTRATOR

Hi everyone. I'm importing some files from illustrator and right now im using the original .ai project files not pictures or exports of it, but when i go to full resolution i'm getting all the text really choppy and even the circles (and image that form our logo, which is a series of grey and green circles) look choppy. here's a screenshot http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/TWISTEDHIPHOP/CIRCLEISSUE.jpg you can look at the black/grey circle on the left and a few others and you'll see what i'm talking about. what can this be, should i import as an image instead, what resolution should these things be in for me to import? i'm using the NTSC DV WIDESCREEN setting, is this wrong....also i'm using this to do 16:9 videos but i'm still getting it at 720x480, shouldn't it be 720x405 for 16:9? sorry i know i put a few questions in one.

if you mean the 'toggle pixel aspect ratio correction' that was never on. i think i was being stupid and i overlooked that i had it to fit instead of to 100% on the preview screen, rookie mistake. im so pisst at myself
