Object Link of DIR

Hi Gurus
I know that when you wanna upload a original of other module like MM, SD, PS... you have to do following steps:
- Create a master data in other module
- Create a document in CV01N
- Attach some original application file
- Use object link to connect them
But I think user can upload file from other module not enter CV01N. If yes. how to do it ?
P,s,: I saw my partner create DIR from project builder and he didn't need to enter any Tcode of DMS

Without DMS also you can attach documents in different transactions, like CJ20N, VA01 etc....
But documents attached in such transaction can be accessed from that particular transaction & from that particular business cycle. Say for example, you have attached a document to sales order in VA01/VA02. You, or anybody else, who wants to see that document have to open that particular sales order & from there they can see the document. They can't directly access the document. And this same document attached sales order can't be used another sales order or any other transaction. You'll have to again attach the same document (In case if you need same document in another business cycle, like project) can not be attached. If your business needs many documents need to be attached then you would be wasting your database space & such documents can not be accessed directly unless you open it from a particular transaction, from where you have attached the document.
With DMS you have amny advantages. You'll save your database space. You can link/ attach the same document to multiple objects. You can directly access documents etc..
I hope this clears your doubts.

Hello All,
Can you please let us know if there is any limit on the No of Object links to be maintained in the Object Link tab of DIR,
Our major Concern comes as there is One DIR logo / symbol, which is maintained in most of the Material Master around 1000s
and also the same DIR is used in all the Service and maintenance Notification as an Attachment, so the list of Object link in DIR Object link tab is going beyond control above 10000s,
i wanted to know if there is any limit on no of Object links to be maintained in DIR object links, and is there any impact on DMS functionality if the list is ever increasing,
( also can i know if there is any workaround that the DIR is only displayed going in to Material master or Notifications but the same is not listed in the DIR object links tab as here it is going on increasing,)

Thanks for the responses given, and providing a hint not to have many Object links, as it could be an performance issue going to the DMS DIR Object link TAB,
But in this particular case we are not assigning the Objectlinks going by the DMS Object links TAB, but it is done in other way round, going by the Equipment or Notification Screens,
There are few Health and safety document ( Which is created as a DIR in DMS) which needs to be assigned in Most of the Equipment and the new notifications created, and this document DIR is assigned from the Equipment and notification Screen,
And we may not be interested to go to the DIR to browse and Assign the Object Links, so as we do not frequently go and check the DIR or Use DIR Object link TAB for Object Link assignment will it in any ways cause performance Issue here??
And also as asked earlier can we have a one way attachment like the DIR is Visible in the Equipment or Notification Screen, but the DIR is not adding up the Equipment or Notification details in its Object links TAB, (by development or it is totally illogical to ask for)

Mass upload of characteristics and long text for Object Links in DIR

hello all
I want to upload characteristics and long text of Linked Objects in Documents: i wanted to use BAPI_OBJCL_CHANGE and family but, it is a class that is on a different level than the DIR as it does not belong to the DIR directly, but to objects that are linked TO the dir, via the tab linked object.
any idea on how I can do that?
LSMW and recordings do not work (or at least I did not find a way to make them work);
have you encountered such a situation?

DMS:Object link to Purchase requesition item giving error

Dear All,
I have a requirement to attach documents in Purchase requesition item, but if i try to attach the object link in DIR from CV01N, it gives ma an error "The status RL cannot be set because no objects exist to the following links"Purchase req. item 001000399200000
But if attach a document from me51 it is attached & also can be seen from CV02N.
I have maintained the object link 'EBAN' & screen no 247 to my document type.
So where should be the problem.
Help will be Appreciated.

i have tried the 'object check' tick removing process it works but when ever i select a purchase requestion as a object link in my DIR, it only selects the purchase req. number but the item no is not selected, if i don't put the item no manually the DIR is saved with the objectlink but if u go & see in the purchase req. transaction there is no document attached to it.
When u select a purchase req. number & put the item number manually in DIR, then the document is attached in the PUR .REQ.
What would be the reason that the Pur. Req. & item no both donot appear when i select them in my DIR object link tab.
And i had four status for my Document type all had the problem of objet check, so i have removed that tick.

Services for object linked note to DMS DIR

dear sir,
we have created DIRs(cvo1n) and attached notes using Services For Object. The notes is visible in attachement list.Now we want to generate a report in which these notes should be available against respective DIRs.
we created a query using SQVI, linking tables DRAW,DRAT,TDWST,TSOTT and SOOD.
But this will show all the notes available in that language ( no link with DIRs)
we want to have the Notes which are attached to respective DIRs in report.
it may be possible if we link the table contains DIR and SOOD link table,which we don't know
can you suggest some method to get the details of Notes available in Services For Objects?

Object Link to Engineering Record from DIR

Hello Gurus,
With respect to the below post. I did the config setting and I see only the CASE GUID showing up and not the Engineering Record number.
PLM7 Engineering Record not working as expected
And also I am not able to navigate to my ER from the DIR Object links tab. I have set the screen no as 500 of the specific document type.
Kindly advice if I should the screen no or implement any note to get the ER# in the objects tab instead of the CASE GUID.

Easy DMS - object linking DIRs

Hi,
I'm implementing Easy DMS currently running version v6.0 SP9. Everything is working well with SAP DMS except for one thing, object linking.
I've read other threads but no help.
My issue is I want to be able to show a DIRs relationship with other DIRs in the object links.
Easy DMS allows this to a certain extent but its useless because all it does is display the related DIRs for this DIR, you cant action anything to display these other DIRs, where as if you do the same thing in SAP DMS, you can actually get a link to the referenced DIRs and when you click on it, it will automatically navigate you to the related DIR.
Why doesn't this work in EASY, or is simply just there for show, which I find a waste of time to be honest if object links are simply for show. The same goes if I want to attach a DIR to a material same problem.

to my knowledge,Navigation to a different dir which is attached as object link in easyDMS is not possible (like in SAP GUI).

Limiting display of DIR at object link

Dear all,
I have a question of limiting the list of DIRs for an object link.
I have a document type for which object link of WBS element (PRPS) is assigned. Now when I am creating a DIR through WBS element object link through Use transaction to create document,when I click on Create icon for creating a DIR from WBS element it lists all the document types created in the system which have link to WBS element( PRPS).
My question is if a user is having authorization of specific document type, when a DIR is created from WBS element,can we restrict the list of document type to be displayed only for which user is having authorization while creating DIR through WBS element?

What you are saying is correct from Businees Requirement Perspective and I agree.
But the functionality you are taking about has to be achived by ABAP developement.
And would be a very complicated developement.
You will have to check what is the Function Module which assigns the value after displaying of Document Type.You will have to modify the FM which diaplays values related to the User who is working on that project in CJ20N.
FM must be having steps to fetch values and the display.So Change the Display part with Check Document Types ,Check User, Check his authorization and then Display.
So user will be able to see the Document Types to which he is authorized.
Check Program SAPLKKBL, Screen 0501, in which Check Module MODULE_LIST_DISPLAY

Error when attaching object link in DMS

Hi Experts,
I am calling the function module CV110_DOC_CREATE in my program. This program i have attached to a ztransaction.Thus the screen after entering the document type, document version and part in the cv01n transaction appears when my ztransaction is executed. But the problem is that i can attach object link (document info record) when the ztransaction is executed initially. But when i click on back button and again comes to the screen i am not able to attach the object link.Then it gives an error as " Object does not exist". Please help.

When the back button is clicked screen for my ztransaction comes.From there it is calling the actual screen to attach the object link.there i am trying to attach the object link again...then it is saying as object does not exists. This same dir i have attached earlier as object link when the ztransaction was run initially.

Linking DMS DIR to Service entry sheet

I need to link DMS DIR to Servise entry sheet(ML81N). As there is no standard SAP object(ESSR) I need to achieve this by Development.
I found out the procedure for development as below which I could not understand properly.

You can make an object link to SAP objects that are not shown in the possible entries list. To do this, proceed as follows:
In the standard system, there are already two special screens for the module pools SAPLCV130 and SAPLCV140 for the linked SAP object.
You must create two new screens with the same number for the module pools SAPLCV130 and SAPLCV140 .
The processing logic must follow that of screen 1204 in program SAPLVC130.
Create function module OBJECT_CHECK_XXXX (XXXX = object name)
If the object can be classified, this function module already exists .
Otherwise copy the function module for linking equipment DOCUMENT_CHECK_EQUI and change it as required for the new object.
Please explain step by step procedure for achieving this development.

DMS Object Link at Maintenence Order and Service order level

Hi SAP Gurus,
We had a requirement for maintaining DMS Object at Service order and maintenence order level, as Standard DMS does not provide any Standard Object link at Order level, we went for development and following the Standard procedure i could bring the Order Tab in CV01N Object Links, and also i could search the relavent maintenence order and maintain documents relevant to it,
But the biggest problem now is i could not create DIR from the Maintenence or service order screen IW31, and the document i have placed at the order is not visible in the order screen at all,
i know it is some sort of enhancement in the Order screen to allow DMS Documents to appear in the Order screen to provide this funtionality.
let me pls know what exactly has to be done, as there is no config at the order level to get the DMS Screen, as DMS is not a standard object at the order level.
one approch as suggested is modifiying the Order screen or using Screen Exit Enhancement for Order but not sure which one to use or how to move ahead,

i went through the said SAP Note, but it only speaks about the notifications level, where SAP itself has provided the standard DMS Object links, and iam in latest ECC-6 version where this note is taken care of i think,
iam looking for creating DMS Document (DIR) from the maintenence Order IW31 transaction screen, and have developed new Object link for Maintenence order,
but the main problem is, iam not able to create DIR from the IW31 Screen directly as Maintennce order is not a standard SAP Object,
please let me know how to get the list of documents that i have attached to a maintenence order to appear in the IW32 maintenence order screen, and also we need to create the documents (DIR) directly from IW31 / 32 screens.

Object Link to Batch Number (MCH1 & MCHA)

I am trying to link a DIR to Batch Number.
For this i tried object MCH1(Batch Number without Plant) & MCHA (Batch Number with Plant).Screen Numbers for MCH1 is 264 & for MCHA is 265.
After making the reqd. configurations, ie. defining object links for Document Type as MCHA & MCH1 when i go to transaction CV01N i can see the tab for MCH1(screen number 1264) and no tab is available for MCHA(1265).
And when i go for CV04N, and try to search for same document type with the help of object links then both tabs are visible there. But now in these tabs material column is not visible, only Batch column is visible for MCH1 and Batch & Plant column are visible for MCHA. I have already checked the Table settings - there is nothing wrong with it.
Please guide me why such problem is occurring instead of maintaining all configuration properly. Is there anything that i have missed?

Looks like I was not clear in my query.
What I have done is as following:
1.Maintain Screen for Object Link: Here I maintained the objects MCH1 & MCHA with screen numbers 264 & 265 respectively. And also maintained value 1 for Authorization.
2.Define Document Type >> Define Object Link: Then I have assigned these 2 objects to the particular Document Type with DC10 along with respective screens.
Now when I go to CV01N and go to object links I can see only 1 tab which contains Material & Batch which I guess is visible because of MCH1 (Screen number 264).
But I am not able to see the other tab which should contain Material, Batch & Plant as defined in the screen 265 for object MCHA.
Second problem is when I go to CV04N, and enter the Document Type and go to object link tab, I can see 2 tabs. But one of these tabs has Batch & Plant Column and the other tab has only Batch column.
Please help me out with this. Thank you.

Object Link to Contracts

Is it possible to create an Object Link in a DIR to a Contract?
I configured my document type in dc10 to have an object link to /BEV3/CHWV (Contract Handl. Doc.) However, when i go to cv01n, create a new DIR and try to link it to a contract, I get a blank screen under the Object Links tab. Plus, when I go to me32, I do not see an option to attach a DIR through Extras -> Documents.
Any help would be appreciated.

I require to give an object link from DMS to Business partner of ISU module t code BP.
So checked up in SPRO- Control data- maintain key feilds, & i found that BUT001 is the transparent table which is used here. so i inserted the same in object link for my document type, but there was no screen no defined to it so i gave the screen no as 500, the tab has appeared under the objectlink tab in DIR, but the screen is not appearing, it is blank, also in the business partner Transaction the DIR table is not appearing.
What should i do? is there any other setting required, or the table which i have found is wrong. Plz help.

I saw the screen number for general business partner is 1249, maybe you can use this.

DMS Object Linking with Appropriation Request (Ecc6.0)

Dear All,
ECC 6.0(ERP 2005)

I am opening DIR in change mode
going to object links TAB
attaching object link for appropriation request
saving the DIR
Re-opening the same DIR with Appropriation Req. Object link
going to object link TAB
double clicking the attached object for Appropriation Req.
<b>Error****this does take me to maintained TCODE IMA11 for Appropriation Req. "but it does not display specific attached object"</b>
I mean it is not displaying attached object (Appropriation req.,Variant) it just take me to initial screen of IMA11....

please change the transaction from IMA11to IMA3 and see if the request is now
displayed. In transaction SPRO under
Cross-Application Components
-> Document Management
   -> Control Data
       -> Maintain Key Fields
the entry for object IMAV should look like this:
IMAV     IMA3     POSNR1
