Object Package - Creation of Links to reports

Post Author: [email protected]

Product: Business Objects CMC
Version: XI R2
Operating System(s): Windows XP
Database(s): Oracle 10i
Query :
  Hi,  I want to know is there any way ,in CMC, with which you can create a link to objects(reports) which point to actual reports and place them under multiple folders.
I have a situation. The same set of reports are to be shared within multiple folders and they have the same update/change requirements to them. So if i alter one report(master), the same should be reflected under all folders. I dont want to duplicate reports in folders.
Thanks

This is done while you are signed into Business Objects.  To "link" a report as you desire, you navigate to the original report, then click on the open box next to the report's name.  Click on the drop-down arrow next to "Navigate" and choose "Add Shortcuts to New Folder...", then navigate to the folder of the dialogue box and voila, you have your link.  To verify what you've just done, you can sign into the CMC and under Objects, search for your report.  After you've done the link activity described above your "master" report will have the familiar "report" icon with a blue and red color, and you're other report (the linked one) will have a similiar icon but will be in white with a black border (not colorful as the original).

  • Problem with package creation

    Hi ,
    I created package name  BBP_ESI, with the following information:
    Appl. Component - MM
    software component - SAP_APPL
    Assign BBP_ESI as a sub package to PI-B2B .
    1, Where can i find  Allowed Objects types in the package creation ,i am using SAP  6.0 version .
    2, When i create a report and save it in this package BBP_ESI, its giving error Customer object PROG ZFCI_BBP_ESI_IDOC_SETUP cannot be assigned to package BBP_ESI . Please let me know why i am getting this error .
    Thanks In Advance .

    see SAP documentation for package naming convention:
    Packages
    The following namespaces are available for packages:
    Package names beginning with a letter from A to S, or from U to X.
      Package names beginning with these letters are reserved for objects of the SAP standard system from the SAP namespace. You cannot create customer objects or objects from prefix namespaces in these packages.
    Note that the package name must be no more than 30 characters long. The name of the main package should reflect the content of the package Adjacent packages should have similar names.
    The Transport Organizer records changes to objects in these packages, so that they can be transported.
    These packages belong to the "SAP" transport layer and are assigned to an SAP software component (such as SAP_BASIS, SAP_APPL).
    Package names beginning with Y or Z
      You can create customer-specific objects from the customer namespace in these packages.
    The Transport Organizer records changes to objects in these packages, so that they can be transported, provided the SAP System has been set up appropriately. (For more information, see Setting the System Change Option). These packages are assigned to the software component HOME.
    So create the packages accordingly...

  • Edit link for Report with form

    Hi, I create report on Page1 with form on Page2 using Wizard. For this reports select always returns me only one record. On my report I see edit image, it has records 'id' value and branching me to Page2.
    I need edit link on another region in Page1. But I can't to assign for this link the same 'id' value for editing my record in Page2. How can I do it?
    Thanks!
    Kira.

    Kira,
    You are right, doing things this way is messy. One approach is to write APIs to support your data model. All queries/DML against tables should be done with these APIs. Having two levels of APIs has worked well for many applications: a transaction-level API (modules like fetch_empl_vacation_history, update_org_roles_master, create_incident_report) and a table-level API (modules like fetch_emp_rec, update_emp_rec, create_emp_rec). Transaction APIs call table APIs and table APIs do queries and DML against base tables. A typical page like the one you described might have one transaction-level API call to do the fetch from all the tables and populate all the page items in session state and one transaction-level API call after submit to perform the logical transaction that updates all the affected tables. APIs like these must also handle concurrency using an optimistic locking model. To repeat, the automatic row fetch and DML processing processes built into HTML DB are not intended to manage complex, multi-table transactions.
    You can create table-level APIs using SQL Workshop->Tasks Menu(Create Database Object)->Package->Build a package with methods on database table(s). If you experiment with that, some of this should make more sense.

  • Link in report with SSP enabled

    Hey everyone, I have a question here involving programatically generated links in reports from the sql query behind them. How do I make a link to the page (from the report's sql query) that will allow me to change the value of a hidden and protected item (P16_PERSON_CONTACT_ID) without having APEX Session State Protection get angry at me and still protect me from having the user muck with the URL?

    David,
    Well bind variables are more performant and safer to use in queries. It shouldn't really be a debate on when to use them, you always use them when you can. Here's a quick break down (not a complete list, and should probably be expanded, but should get you going)...
    Use bind variable syntax when you're referencing an item:
    1. In a report query
    2. In PL/SQL code that is stored in the application (as a page level process for example)
    Use substitution variable syntax when you're referencing an item:
    1. Outside of SQL and PL/SQL but still need the value - this is not always an option (in the HTML Header region of a page or title of a region for example)
    Use V and NV functions when you're referencing an item:
    1. In PL/SQL code stored outside the application (in a package for example)

  • "edit" link from report to form does not show values

    I created a report and an attached form on two different pages. The report is a query combining two tables with outer joins. When I click on the "edit" button on the report, I get forwarded to the form page.
    My problem: When I get forwarded to the forms page, I get an empty form, and not the data from the column as expected. The "edit" button behaves more like the "create" button. Anybody an idea what I could change to be able to edit the column data?
    Thank you.

    I've met the similar problem with previous releases (1.5.0 and 1.5.1) without any objective reason.
    As I suggests, sometimes HTMLDB lost current session state. When this occurs, ALL links from reports to it's forms does not transit primary keys. I've just completed application development and I've met this behaviour every months.
    As a workaround I found folowwjing process:
    Come into administration tab, selet "Report with option to purge current session state". When I purge current session state and re-login to application, all report-form links will start to work.
    I don't know, what is the issue, but I met it so soon on my local HTMLDB environment.

    Â Hi Jason
     You are correct. The Viewer object will not automatically look at the URL and try to assign the values. You need to grab these values from the URL and properly assign them to the parameter objects.

  • Error: Component failed to run due to a Object Package scheduling failure

    Hi,
    BusinessObjects XI R2 SP 5, FP 5.1
    I am trying to schedule a group of reports (crystal reports) via a package where the output destination is to an email. At the event of execution of the scheduled time for the package; the package fails with the error: Component failed to run due to a Object Package scheduling failure. (Note: When scheduled individually it is successful and it was copied to the package from its original location, so there is no mistake in parameters or ODBC connections)
    When we go to the history and within the instance, we see that some of the reports have the status as success and some are failed with the same error message. Even though some of the reports are made to fail at the event of 'NO DATA'; what I do not understand is that how come some of the other reports (which contains data and which works when trying to run manually or scheduled individually) are failing.
    I would understand something is wrong when the entire package fails which is not the case here as say of 50 reports, 5 are successful and the rest fails with the same error.

    Sorry posted on the wrong section...

  • Issue in scheduling of object packages

    Below is detail description of problem:
    ===============================================
    Earlier Requirement:Need to schedule 350 copies of a report with a different parameter (Branch#) for each one of them and run them every month.
    Solution we implemented: 7 Object packages with 50 reports each that run serially every month-end
    [Current Problem: We need to add a column to the report, which means modifying 350 reports, which will be an effort whenever there is a need for change.
    Help we need:: Is there any easy way to mass-schedule reports and maintain them easily as well using BO XI R2? We're open to third party tools etc.
    ==============================================
    Please help me in this.
    Thanks,
    Swapnil Rodge.

    1. How can I identify input FRS location for report file? Also since there are 350 reports, I need to identify locations of 350 reports. How can I do it?
    1. (Answer):
    You could use the SDK to build a spreadsheet which pulls the relevant information for the objects. Alternatively, you could use the query tool to identify the FRS location and dump the results into Excel. Use excel formula to build the copy commands for the batch file.
    2. What s batch file? How can I crerate batch file to copy modified report file to 350 report files present in different 350 locations? Also it will be litile bit risky to touch input FRS folder.
    2.(Answer): Yes, it is risky. Makes sure you know what you are doing before proceeding. If you don't know what a batch file is and you don't know how to query the CMS then I wouldn't advise using this method. Your best bet is to invest in a third party tool.
    Also let me know if APOS Bursting Manager has free version or we need to buy it?
    (Answer):
    There might be a trial version. Check the website.

    Sir AG,
    Thanks a lot for replying and spending your valuable time for my problem.
    Sir, I just want to put this in your knowledge that my application is web based application and I am calling these reports through web forms i.e. of ASP.NET coded in vb from .aspx.vb files.
    So as per the code I have attached, I have this
    Option Explicit On
    Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
    Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
    Next for ReportDocument Object:
    Dim fileName As String = "Reports\" & ReportID & ".rpt"
            Dim reportPath As String = Server.MapPath(fileName)
            myRepDoc = New ReportDocument()
            myRepDoc.Load(reportPath)
            myCrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = myRepDoc
    Above is the code used by me in Page_Init  and I have already tested it from Page_Load. I have got few suggestions from this forum that I should put this code in Page_Init only.
    Lastly:
    The database connectivity code:
    Dim myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
            If Session("reportConnectionInfo") IsNot Nothing Then
                Dim ConnInforArrList As ArrayList = DirectCast(Session("reportConnectionInfo"), ArrayList)
                myConnectionInfo.ServerName = ConnInforArrList(0)
                myConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = ConnInforArrList(1)
                myConnectionInfo.UserID = ConnInforArrList(2)
                myConnectionInfo.Password = ConnInforArrList(3)
            Else
                lblMessage.ForeColor = Drawing.Color.Red
                lblMessage.Text = "Session is off. Please Relogin to See the Report."
            End If
            SetDBLogonForReport(myConnectionInfo, myRepDoc)
            SetDBLogonForSubreports(myConnectionInfo, myRepDoc)
    SetDBLogonForReport(myConnectionInfo, myRepDoc)
    Private Sub SetDBLogonForReport(ByVal myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo, ByVal myReportDocument As ReportDocument)
            Dim myTables As Tables = myReportDocument.Database.Tables
            For Each myTable As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table In myTables
                Dim myTableLogonInfo As TableLogOnInfo = myTable.LogOnInfo
                myTableLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo = myConnectionInfo
                myTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(myTableLogonInfo)
            Next
        End Sub
    This code I have got from a sample of the forum itself.
    Sir, after all these effort and the unchecking of option "Save Data with Report" on calling the reports from my forms it is showing blank report. No data from the database is coming form the database.
    I have uncheked the option "Save Data with Reports" to get the updated data each time the report has been called but now the status is that nothing is coming.
    Thanks again for you precious and valuable effort to help me but the my problem is unsolved, So sir please if you could put an eye on it and help me out to get rid of this problem, I will be very thankful to you for your kind help.
    Thanks and regards

  • Link two reports using parameters

    Hi,
    We are using business object XI.
    I am trying to link two reports using parameters. I cannot use subreport option becuase inside the subreport I should link another report too. So,
    Report 1(High level summary)
    Report 2(Middle level summary)
    Report 3(Detail level)
    I tried to use hyperlink option and used following string.
    http://<server_name>/<Virtual Directory>/object.rpt?prompt0={?param1}&prompt1={?param2}
    Here is my question.
    1. Server name: Does it include port number??
    2. Virtual Directory: I am absolutely lost. I tried the "frsinput" directory the actual rpt file is storing. It is not working.
    Do you have general path??
    3. Parameters: I have 5 parameters to pass. 3 of them are Strings and the rest are DateTime.
    Basically, I need any tutorial about this kinds of things. The tutorial I have got only discribe link like "www.yahoo.com"
    BTW, is this even possible solution??

    Hi,
    I am trying to link two reports in the crystal report designer->deploy to the server->show in the DHTML viewer.
    When I create a URL from report A, it looks like "&" disapears. For example, I created a hyper link from report A using formula,
    http://server:port/........openDocument.jsp?sDocName=reportB&sType=rpt&paramName1="Trim(ToText({?param1},"#####"))"&paramName2="+Trim(ToText ({?param2},"#######"))
    But when I see the actual URL, all the "&" disappears so it looks like
    http://server:port/........openDocument.jsp?sDocName=reportBsType=rptparamName1="Trim(ToText({?param1},"#####"))"paramName2="+Trim(ToText ({?param2},"#######"))
    No wonder it is not working.
    I guess I need special protection for "&" sign. Do you know any?

  • Adding objects to an object package

    I am using DESKi XI and I am trying to add a .rep report to the CMC so I can schedule it every day in InfoView.
    On page 189 of the BO Enterprise Administrator's Guide it says to open the object package in the CMC, click the New Object button and a list of object tabs will appear. It says to click on the appropriate tab, REPORT or PROGRAM.
    I see icons on the left side of the window for Program, Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe, Text, Rich Text, Power Point and hyperlink. Nothing for "Report". If I select Program or any of the other choices a browse window comes up so you can identify the location of the object. When I identify the .rep file I get an error warning that it did not expect a .rep extension, do you want to continue? I have said yes, but when scheduling the object it never runs.
    There are other DESKi objects that came with this copy of our CMC, so I know you can load a .rep object...Please help...

    Thank you for getting me on track...I just searched for every reference to EXPORT in that Admin guide and didn't see this anywhere in the document.  I just went to the Deski Access and Analysis guide and found the instructions you referenced.
    I have successfully exported the files and successfully scheduled them from InfoView.  I have a follow-on problem, but I will put it in a new thread so you get credit for solving another problem if you want to...
    Thank you very much!
