Object's positioning issue

Hi,
I have a problem with objects positioning.
I have 3 non-flowed pages with many non-flowed subforms.
Problem 1: When i change X coordinate of any object in subform it moves other objects in this subform and also in other subforms.
Problem 2: I cant set x-coordinate of the object in subform to the same value as subform has, even thougt i have no margins set on it.
Can someone give me a clue how to solve these problems or tell me what's wrong with it?
Thank You
Jirka

I'm not sure what's happening with your first problem.
For the second problem, if I'm understanding you, the default for x/y measurements is Absolute Coordinates, so it's measuring from the edge of the page. You can change that via the the little dropdown menu in the top right of the Layout Palette and select Relative Coordinates.

I think there is a false positive issue that was introduced with the signature’s tuning via the S180 update. As a result, I have two questions:
    1) Am I right, or is the signature working as it should?
    2) Is anyone else having this problem?
Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated,
    Alex Arndt

The new version of this signature should be included in the S182 update. As a workaround if you are using 5.x you may to create 2 meta signatures using this signature and the no-op sled signatures (3328 for better coverage create a meta associated with each one and the existing sig). In your component list be sure to set 3353 prior to 3328. Set unique attackers to 1, meta interval to 2, and component list in order to true. This should eliminate all benign triggers.

I can see somewhere the object arrangement position in a layer?
The question apeir after next problem apeir: I have a document on one layer with hundred of object and I want a new object to put after an object but befor another, is easy with Ctrl+] or Ctrl+[ when I have 10 - 20 objects, but when I have hundred ... take to much time, so, it is a posibility to arrange 2 objects quickly next one each other from the point of view of arrangement into a layer?
    Thanks for answers.

Hi, I know that menu, and in that  menu I have one Layer, but in that layer I have , by example, 541 objects, when I import a new object, that is gona be object 542, and now the new object I want to put after, let's say, object 134. How to do that quickly? That is the question!

  • Spry menu positioning issue in IE?

    Hi,
I am quite new to dreamweaver and using spry menus but I have decided to create a horizontal spry bar in my website.

  • Smart Objects - File size issues

    Hey All,
The Question: Not sure if this question has been answered elsewhere. But when using a nested smart object (meaning a smart object within a smart object) Photoshop CS5 doesn't display the correct file size (at bottom left) or seem to account for the nested smart object file size.  Is there a "setting" I’m missing to accurately display what the true file size is?
The Problem: Using multiple nested smart objects that I have reduced the size of my image to be 260x200 for web export. Photoshop CS5 won't let me save a file that appears to be only 3mbs claiming it's over 2 gig's. See image below.
Really not sure what to do about this, the company I work for makes lots of changes so using smart objects is necessary for my work flow. But also seems to be slowing me down trying to figure out issues like this and is problematic when it comes to saving all the work I have been doing.
    Thanks for the help

One thing you might have missed is that Photoshop is not a file editor its a document editor.   The sizes Photoshop is displaying are related to how much ram it using for the documents data. How efficient ram is being used etc. File sizes vary all over the place sizes depend on the number of pixels in an image format support layers no layers compression?, transparency.   There is no way Photoshop could even guess at any file sizes.
An other is all smart object layer are not created the same and their sizes my be far different the you may think.
Smart object layers have a basic format. There is an embedded object, there is a composite pixel rendering for embedded object that is used for the layer pixels and there is a transform associated for the layer rendered pixels.
Anything Photoshop supports can be an embedded object.  These objects are copies of the original object.  For example a copy of a RAW file where ACR settings are stored in the file copy metadata. An embedded object might be a copy of a PSD file that has thousands of layers. in any case Photoshop renders pixels for the embedded objects composite view and uses these rendered pixels as the smart object layers pixels.  These pixels can not be changed within the document.
However the embed object can be opened and worked on and changed. If the change is committed Photoshop will update the embedded object and render the updated object composit view and replace the layers pixels.
Smart Object Layer Pixels can only be acted on in the document not changed with paint etc. For example the Transform associated with the smart object layer sizes and positions the layer rendering over the canvas. The layer actual size may be larger then, smaller then the canvas size and have a different aspect ratio then the canvas. Example if you place in an image that is larger then the document canvas size one of Adobe Photoshop's Preferences is set by default have Place resize large images to fit within current the documents canvas size. The transform associated with that placed layer would cause the rendering of the layers pixels to fit with in the canvas.
Though an embedded  object may contain thousands of layers the actual object may be much smaller then you think for PSD files are compressed object may be compressed.  Also while the embedded object  may contain vector layers when a smart object layer is transformed the layer is transformed using interpolation like a raster layer for all that is being transformed is the pixels Photoshop rendered for the embedded smart object. The only way to work on the embedded smart object layers it to open the smart object and work on the object itself.j

  • Rotating object sampling quality issues

A student of mine asked this question today. Rotating sharp-edged artwork seems to be problematic in Photoshop.
    Take this grid:
    Original file (6 colours):
    www.estructor.biz/testje/grid2.png
    Now rotate by 45 degrees.
These are the results in Photoshop CS6 labeled by sampling method:
    www.estructor.biz/testje/ps_grid.png
And these are the results in Photoline (latest beta introduced improved two new sampling algorithms):
    www.estructor.biz/testje/pl_grid.png
I uploaded the raw png files to my own server, otherwise the quality may be affected by the upload function here.
To compare both, open them in Photoshop and zoom to 200% or 400%, and notice how Photoshop's versions do not compare favourably: some sort of unsharp mask sharpening effect was introduced, resulting in halos.
The CatmullRom version generated in Photoline seems to be the best one, though the ones with MitchellNetravali, Lanczos3 and even bicubic all arguably produced better anti-aliased versions than the ones in Photoshop. In Photoshop only Bicubic Smooth is acceptable (in my opinion), though the anti-aliasing is too smooth looking.
I am aware the effects can be subtle - though they are quite noticeable. I mean, why does Photoshop's bicubic sampling prodube such an inferior version compared to Photoline? It makes no sense.
A secondary observation I made is that Photoshop's version introduced 2271 colours into the rotated version, while Photoline only used 231 unique colours after transformation. Which, with Photoline's version being the superior one, exacerbates the problem in my view, because it will add to the final artwork's file size (may be very important for both web graphics and 2d game graphics).
From a user experience view point, another issue is that Photoshop CS6 will not render the final result as a preview before the actual transformation is applied - meaning the user is left to first apply the transformation, and then she/he is forced to undo, and redo until satisfied. In Photoline, for example, the transformation's sampling method can be changed and the actual result is shown before committing to a sampling method.
All this is not that important to me for my own personal work, because I switched to Photoline and other software more than a year ago. However, I do still want to be able to answer questions from students in regards to Photoshop, so I feel it is an important aspect.
So, my (and my students') questions are:
    - is it possible to turn off that unsharp mask-like effect when rotating?
    - are there ways to improve the sampling somehow?
    - down-sampling sharp artwork also introduces similar problems. Any way to circumvent them?
    - placing the grid/dragging the grid file into a photoshop file produces a terrible result. Only by opening the grid file first, and copying and pasting is the original artwork preserved. Drag and drop does not function properly (and refuses to place at 100% automatically). Any solutions to change the drag and drop behaviour to automatically resample?
(btw, this does not happen in Photoline either - drag and drop does not (and should not!) resample in this case!)
    - have these issues been resolved in Photoshop CC latest version?
    - if the current versions of CS6 or CC do not offer solutions for this type of work, is this something that will be fixed in an upcoming release? Or is it not at all on the radar?
    Thanks.
ps As mentioned before in the Illustrator forum, exporting sharp artwork from Illustrator at low screen resolutions is by far the lesser of a viable option - the anti-aliasing is absolutely horrid, unless the artwork is directly imported into Photoshop and severely blown up, and then scaled down. And even then the results are not on par with Mitchel-Netravali and Catmul Rom.

@Steve: thanks, but I am quite experienced, and I did not import the vector itself, but a straightforward bitmap grid to avoid any interpolation while importing and converting the vector graphic itself. Also see the first paragraph in my response to Mike below .
@Mike: importing the grid as a smart illustrator object does indeed help - but the lines are too thick and dark looking compared to Mitchell-Netravali and Catmull-Rom.
Exporting your screen sized artwork from Illustrator using the save for web option is positively the worst option: the quality is unacceptable in most cases. I've done a small write up concerning the bad anti-aliasing as a result of Illustrator's web export here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/6002543#6002543
The only workable solution to get the best anti-aliased down-scaled artwork from Illustrator is to blow up the artwork to a large size, then rasterize, and scale down again. Even then the final quality as a result of the built-in sampling algorithms of Photoshop will not be on par with Photoline or ImageMagick.
And, of course, not always is a vector version available. The screen artwork I receive is often bitmap based, which proves to be problematic for transformation jobs in Photoshop.
Gif is merely 8bit indexed, and would not solve the issue - reducing the number of colours is no solution for poor anti-aliasing along edges.
@Chris: I am unsure how you can say that - yes, Catmull-Rom is known to be a less than ideal re-sampling method for up-scaling images. That said, it works wonderfully well for down-sampling images or as a sampling method to transform lower resolution bitmap based artwork - essential for screen based work and web jobs.
Lanczos does a meagre job for down-sampling (with Lanczos8 especially bad in terms of artifacts), but a very good job for up-sampling images. We have to know the goal to identify the best method/approach/solution.
Although I am certain you are familiar with the math, the example shown on this page demonstrates that Catmull-Rom and Mitchell-Netravali do in fact work best for down-sampling images: http://pixinsight.com/doc/docs/InterpolationAlgorithms/InterpolationAlgorithms.html
And I am not inventing all this - for lower resolution sharp edged illustrative artwork Photoshop has always been rather awkward. The sampling methods currently implemented in Photoshop deal very well with high resolution artwork and photographic media, but fare poorly with lower resolution graphics.
The demonstration files I prepared earlier and linked in my original question show unequivocally that Photoshop's current sampling algorithms deal poorly in this regard! I did not even bother to include Bicubic Automatic, because that looked positively awful.
I do understand why that is - traditionally it has never been Photoshop's focus I think. Looking at the bare-bones results, though, I am inclined to conclude that both Mitchell-Netravali and Catmull-Rom do indeed produce superior results for down-sampling and re-sampling during transformations of lower resolution images - both sharp-edged artwork, as well as photos.
This has been my experience for years now dealing with 2d game graphics, web work, and general screen graphics work. It is one of the reasons why I left Photoshop and Illustrator early on for this type of work.
So it eludes me why these are not available in Photoshop. Because as far as the results are concerned, they seem to be quite good enough to ship.

  • Query object java method issue

    MyUsernameQuery['userNames'].indexOf('tomjones') will find
    the tomjones
    value in the query.
    BUT:
    MyUsernameQuery['id'].indexOf(99) won't find the numeric
    index value, even
though it's in the record set.
    BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE:
If I manually build a query object with integer values and
    try a similar
search for the numeric id value,it finds it!
    What's up with that?
If it was a casting issue, why would it find it in the
    manually built object
and NOT in the query object?
I tried casting the integer as a string but no luck.
I'm in over my head with these methods. Any help much
    appreciated.

  • Spry menu Bar I.E. positioning issues?

    Hi,
I, like many folks I've seen on various forums have the same problem with my spry menu appearing at the top of I.E browsers instead of under the menu bar. I've tried all sorts of fixes that I've found and have updated to the latest version of Spry. I am using CS3. Could anyone please, please help? I'm not sure where else to go as I've spent the last week on the web trying to resolve the issue. Everything works great on Safari and Firefox. My URL is http://www.visiongreeninvestments.org
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

  • ABAP Objects Design/Organization Issues

    Hi,
I'm trying to design and implement reusable components using ABAP Objects. I'm familliar with OO concepts and have developed a few applications using C++ and Java.
I'm trying to organize my classes into separate source files (include program in ABAP).
    ie.
    <b>include program a</b>
    CLASS a DEFINITION.
    ENDCLASS.
    <b>include program b</b>
    INCLUDE a.
    CLASS b DEFINITION.
data x TYPE REF TO a.
    ENDCLASS.
Lets say I want to write a report that uses both objects a and b. That means I have to include both programs. but since program b includes program a. including both programs a and b in my report would produce redeclarations of class a.
    <b>executable program c</b>
    REPORT c.
    INCLUDE a.
INCLUDE b.   " error: redeclaration of class a
DATA: x TYPE REF TO a.
          y TYPE REF TO b.
This bothers me. Although it would be possible to <b>just include program b</b>, it would be a bit awkward since, i dont care if class a was used in the implementation of class b. Implementation should be abstracted from the user. Besides, everything should be explicit.
Is there a way to organize things as such? Would importing these classes globally would solve the problem.
    Thanks.

    Emir,
The way we do OO Programming in ABAP and other languages differ.
In your case, it might be a better option to create these classes as global classes, so that you will not have this issue. You can SE24 to do the same.

  • Crystal reports / business objects - RAS timeout issue

    Hi,
I am experiencing a problem in my Java application in viewing a report generated by Crystal Report. Let me start off by saying I'm not entirely sure that the problem is with Weblogic, but at the moment it seems likely to be.
The Java app uses the RAS in Business Objects to get/display a report. There is a timeout setting on the RAS server and once this has elapsed, the next request from the Java web app causes a timeout error. Code in the Java app handles the timeout and makes a new connection to the RAS and displays the report (the error and re-connection is all seamless to the end user).
This was all working fine until recently when the server was upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. Now when the Java app makes a request after the timeout has elapsed there is no error returned and instead the process continues and a blank page is shown on the web page.
On the Business Objects side of things, one of the log files states a "received invalid request" message which seems to indicate the Java app is sending it something unrecognisable. So my question is, are there any known issues with Weblogic server under Windows 2003 that could be causing this problem? I'm running version 8.1 SP3.
Since the problem has arose I've tested the Java app on a Windows 2000 and Windows XP environment (both 8.1 SP3) and the timeout occurrance and handling works as expected. I've raised a support request with Business Objects but from previous experience I know they will take a while to respond. So any help about this from you guys will be much appreciated.

  • Object Style Manager issue in Captivate 6

    Hi there,
I'm using a trial of Captivate 6 and am setting some styles using the Object Style Manager.
When I alter some preferences for the Rollover Caption (e.g. font size, alignment, caption background), the changes take effect on the Text Caption as well. I'd like the Text and Rollover captions to have different styles, is it possible to set this up inthe Style Manager?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
This is happening as the Text caption, Rollover caption uses the same style as its default style. You can try creating a seperate style for the Rollover caption.
    To do this,
    1. Open Object Style manager.
    2. Select 'RolloVer Caption' from Standard Objects>Rollover Caption, Click on the 'Clone' button
It Creates a new style with the name '[Default Caption Style]1
    3. Click on the 'Set As Default' button.
This newly added style is set a s the Default for Rollover caption. Now wheneven you insert a Rollover caption, It gets inserted with the new Style and the Text caption gets inserted with the old style.
    Hope this resolves the Issue.
    Thanks,
    Nimmy Sukumaran.

    Hi Jim,
After my previous post, I also saw this behavior, so I decided to do another test.  If there are no decorations in the VI set to “Merge VI” (“Place VI Contents” for LabVIEW 8.5 and later) the controls and indicators are still not selected when dropping the VI from the Functions palette.  I checked this behavior back to LabVIEW 7.1 and it is consistent throughout that controls and indicators are not selected.  (Consequently, so is the fact that when decorations are present they don’t maintain the relative position).
I am not sure if this would be better suited as a CAR or product suggestion since it has been this way that long, but it does not appear to be related to the fact that decorations are present in the Merge VI.  It does seem strange that the decorations are selected though.  Looks like the best way to work around this is to drop the VI from the Controls palette.  Hopefully, it’s not too much of a hassle.
    Hi  Donovan,
    Thanks for checking in.

This just means that not many people use this feature.  However, now that VIPM Professional makes it so easy to edit the palettes, I'm sure that others will start complaining that this doesn't work as they expect.
    > I am not sure if this would be better suited as a CAR or product suggestion

Just look up the functional specifications for this feature and see if all objects are supposed to be selected.
But seriously, is there a reason that only the FP decorations are selected?  Surely this would be documented somewhere, if there was a good reason for this current (IMO, buggy) behavior.
    > It
does seem strange that the decorations are selected though.  Looks like
the best way to work around this is to drop the VI from the Controls
palette.  Hopefully, it’s not too much of a hassle.
That's not a reasonably work-around, IMO.  It doesn't make sense to drop Block Diagram components onto the Front Panel.  For example, this bug affects the JKI State Machine.  It doesn't make sense to drop a State Machine onto the Front Panel.
So, I'd file it as a CAR/bug, and then wait to see how LV R&D feels about it.  If they can find some valid reason for why Controls and Indicators shouldn't be selected, then that's fine (and hopefully someone will explain it to me).
    Thanks,

  • Page footer absolute position issue - Crstal Reports

    Hi,
I have a page footer section in the crystal report.
There are 2 sections Page footer A and Page footer B.
Here I am displaying Page Footer A in the first page and Page Footer B on all the pages.
Here the issue is, as I applied a suppress condition on page footer A in order to display only on frist page. This is working fine. But in the second page the page footer B is displayed a bit above the end of page as the page footer A is suppressed.
Can we set absolute position for page footer B? So that, the page footer B will be displayed at the same way in all the pages as like the first page.
    Thankyou,
    Regards
    Gowtham Sen.

    Hi All,
The issue got resolved. I used the option underlay. It worked well.
    Thanks.

  • Inconsistent transparency according to object's position on page

I have a corner object that uses a radial gradient, with 100% opacity at the center, and 0% opacity at the edge. When laid over a rounded rectangle object, the corner object has the appearance of 'fading out' at the edge, just as intended, no problem. However, if I copy (or move) these two objects (Alt+drag) to a different part of the page, the copied/moved corner object seems to lose the effect of its gradient (even though it is apparently still applied, evidenced by selecting the object and choosing the gradient tool), and appears to become a solid colour.
    - I have checked every object is on the correct layer: corners, on top of rounded rectangles, on top of background.
    - The problem is not a screen issue, as it is evident when the page is printed too.
So I cannot work out why moving the object to a different place on the page affects its gradient. Any ideas?
(I can't see any way to attach the source file. Is that possible?)

Yes, I initially set up the gradient using the annotator, before refining it in the gradient panel. It's simply 100 opacity at the centre, fading out to 0% at the edge.
Here's what it looks looks like on the first (working) one:
Here's what it looks looks like on the copy (failing) one:
