Object to the sheer awfulness of this forum

Verizon's website here is the absolute worst I have ever seen for a major company.  All of its log-on procedures violate every basic standard of web security.  I could not log on at all from Firefox, and I could only log on in IE by turning off every normal security setting.
This typifies Verizon's approach - old, slow, visually ugly and completely clueless about Firefox (!) and normal security settings.  Verizon's UNencrypted email setup is just another example.
No other major company's website is as absolutely terrible as yours.
Don't like my complaint?  Too bad.  I'm paying you monthly for DSL service, and it's third-rate for the money and what's out there in the rest of the world.  The sheer terribleness of your websites is just another example of your hide-bound, crappy level of service.

Um, I can log into the forums from Firefox just fine, as well as IE and Chrome, without disabling any security settings at all. What page specifically are you accessing? Are you using a community id or your Verizon id?

  • For the good people of this forum

A great thanks to the good people of this forum. I got landed my dream job as a Java Developer today and wish to thank all the people in here which helped me out lots of times.
    Thanks again

Man you are pessimistic, you are so going to die
young.Yeah, I am pessimistic you got that right. Butwhen
one has been in the software industry as long as I
have (a loooooong time), Oh, so it's already too late for the "die young" part?Depends on what "young" is defined as (it's subjective).
Without disclosing my actual age (prefer to remain as anonymous as I can), I should still have many years still ahead of me.

  • The more i read this forum the less i want an Iphone!

From reading this forum it is clear that the Iphone is absolutely riddled with problems. I would really love one but they seem to be so dodgy. Every 5 minutes there is a new page of people having problems with their Iphone!
Should i stick with my Nokia?

The iPhone is not riddled with problem.
What you have to keep in mind is that of the people who come here 95% of them are having an issue.
The best analogy I ever heard was that this is an iPhone hospital. 90% of the people/phones are sick 5% are here to help/doctors and 5% are visitors. You wouldn't walk into a hospital and think that 90% of the population was sick, would you? Of course not, because it wouldn't be a representative sample.
The vast majority of iPhone users are having a pleasant, problem free experience and thus never set foot in this forum. My iPhone works great with no issues, making me one of the "doctors."
Take this forum seriously but with a grain of salt

  • I just downloaded Maverick on my Macbook Pro from 2011.  When I try to open iPhoto, it says that I have an old version that doesn't work with Maverick.  None of the solutions stated on this forum work for me, because there are no options displayed.

After downloading Maverick on the MacBook Pro that I bought in 2011, I am unable to open iPhoto. The message says "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X.  You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3"  What???  That is ridiculous.  Why doesn't Maverick download everything?  I've tried the "fixes" I found on this forum, but none of them work for me, because there is no workaround via the library.  I can't access the library.

I have an old iPhoto version and it still works with Mavericks, the version before yours, that is puzzling.

  • Do the Adobe Gods read this forum? ( sorry to blaspheme)

Self help is fine but I wonder if Adobe read the posts on this forum. There does not yet seem to be an official response to the flash player unresponsive plugin issue that is looming as REAL issue. Flash player is such an integral part of the web that I am amazed that there has not been a fairly rapid response from those who produce such wonderful products. I know we shouldn't whinge because its free but can someone please (bow, scrape, grovel) from Adobe heaven please try to address this very frustrating issue?

The Flash Player developers regularly visit this forum, and they do answer questions that are answerable.
I do believe you that you have a problem with Flash Player, and yes, many other users have posted similar problems.
The problem that Adobe has is that they cannot reproduce it.  I cannot reproduce it.  Software problems are very difficult to diagnose if they cannot be reproduced.
I remember one user who posted one or two years ago that he would always get Flash Player hung up or not responding when he has more than 2,500 Flash Player tabs open on Firefox.  Well, that is certainly not something I am going to try and reproduce.
If you can tell what exact steps lead to your problem, maybe then the Adobe engineering team will be able to reproduce it.

  • Unable to install copy of PSE9 to new computer after installing the new drivers from this forum.

I have a new computer and wanted to instal my previously downloaded version of PSE9. As the installers were outdated I contact the online chat and was directed to this forum. I downloaded the new installers and now need to look at how I download the PSE9 using the serial number. I know the number just haven't been asked to enter it and not sure if I have properly downloaded the PSE9.

  • Move ALL duplicate ideas to the last pages of this forum

There are a ridiculous amount of duplicate ideas in this forum because most people don't take the time to check if their idea has already been posted.  This makes it extremely difficult to sort through newer/original ideas to vote on.
Can you filter any post marked as duplicate so that it goes to the last pages of the forum thus making it easier to see original ideas to vote on.

  • With all the legit problems on this forum it is amazing that Logic Pro  -

    gets bought.
from recording delay to audio instrument faults.
score problems and time limitation in the arrange.
graphic issues to region snap problems.
apple loop limitations to au verifications or lack of
delay compensation to beta drivers and (what is this aggregated device mess)
    list can go on....
man if Logic was an iLife app that would be sweet. <--- SARCASM
    sorry everyone,
    FP

    and what perspective is that?
tell me what perspective i should have? i'd like to know.
i didn't say i had a problem at the moment. i was just summing up the last couple weeks or so, and that is enough to make me curious about what else is out there, and how well it would fit into my workflow. really all i have ever messed with is Logic. so with that said, and all the "aparent" issues that are legit. it makes wonder if something else such as Nuendo would really kick some ***. i am waaaaaaaay out of pocket for macs and logic. i guess i will never know if others are better or not. doesn't matter.
it is crazy how i thought this was a forum for technical issues. thanks for confirming that. whew. i thought i was somewhere else.

  • The password rule for this forum is stu

    Hi,
Not intending to offend anyone, but it's very frustrating when a forum is using such a hash rule for password, this is the hardest rule I have encountered when registering at an online forum, and trust me I have registered on numerous forums, and a lot of them belong to product manufacturers. I do have very secure password that I use on my password manager, but guess what, I'm not going to give my super password to an online forum which I only participate for a few product support threads.
I hope Creative would relax the rule somewhat just to make new comers life easier, afterall you want to get more users of your products onboard, no?
    Thanks
    Jim

I agree, i also find that the CAP feature is quite dumb, forcing people is never a clever thing,? the choice should be the users, if you want more security implement better measures like captcha. I tend to forget PW's that are not natural to me and forced on me!!
    Peace.

  • Did Apple remove the search function from this forum?

I'm trying to find out if a topic has already been posted here, but I can't seem to find the Search Discussions function, which I'm certain used to be on the right of the screen.
Did Apple remove this functionality from the Discussions forum?

It's been temporarily disabled while they address some issues we're having with the forums lately.
    Cheers!

  • Use Secure HTTPS throughout this Forum and the Meteor Website

This is not a "Bright Idea", this is a security flaw with the setup of this forum. When registering to use this forum you are asked for these personal sensitive pieces of information: - Password- Email Address- Mobile Number- CUSTOMER SERVICE PIN!- Age Confirmation This forum does not use secure HTTPS TLS anywhere, so when you register with this form, and when you login you are sending this information is clear plain text over the Web. This is extremely insecure especially considering (A) It's a known fact most typical users will use the same account password on multiple sites, so one should assume a user registering for this forum will use the same password that they use for the main MyMeteor account. (B) The Customer Service PIN is one of the pieces of information used when interacting with Meteor either by phone, chat, email, forum or post as a way to verify a persons credentials and valid identity.  So given (A) & (B) if a users password and/or PIN are intercepted on an insecure internet connection, the person gaining access to these credentials could use it to impersonate the customer when communicating with Meteor. The implications are obvious. When an attacker wants to gain access to customer details they will look for the weekest access link. This forum is one of the weekest access links and if comporimised or if user details are intercepted it gives the attacker all the information they need. This forum may be powered by the Lithium service, but it is Meteor's Technical team's responsibilty to setup and secure this forum adequetly. At the moment they have not done this. They are leaving customers at risk of identity theft and are failing in their obligations under Data Protection laws. This needs to be addressed immediatly. On a wider issue it is now considered good practice for public serving websites to use TLS throughout their website and not just for registration and login pages. Contrary to misconception using TLS throughout your site will not greatly reduce the speed or performance of the site if the sys admins have used correct modern server configurations, optimisations and TLS implementation. The major browsers are now blocking out non-secure elements on secure web pages and even Google is going to start using TLS as a signal for traffic ranking. So websites using TLS throughout their site will potentially get better search rankings on Google than those without. I would ask the Meteor Sys admins to at the very least seurce this forum with TLS and then role out TLS across their entire meteor.ie web properties and follow best practise.

I have found that there is an SSL certificate installed on the server to cover the forums.meteor.ie domain, however it is not being enforced. Whilst not a perfect solution, for those using the EFF HTTPS Everywhere browser extension, I have written a ruleset that will force the browser to load https://forums.meteor.ie. I have submitted this ruleset to the EFF but you can also add the ruleset yourself with this following these directions, using this code: <ruleset name="Meteor.ie Community Forum">
    <target host="forums.meteor.ie"/>
    <rule from="^http://(www\.)?forums\.meteor\.ie/" to="https://forums.meteor.ie/"/>
</ruleset> Still waiting on an official response from Meteor.
