Objects/text in pdf from InDesing in Windows looks strange on a mac

Hey people,
I really hope someone can help me.
I'm having problems with the pdf documents I create in InDesign CS5 in Windows, when they are viewed in Safari or Firefox on a mac.
I export as high quality print and haven't made any other changes in the presets area. They look completely fine in Apple viewer and if you download the pdf files on a mac but when you view them in a browser some of the text is missing, or the text is altered to commas and question marks.
The objects appear very aggressive in colour where the transparency is actually set to 10%, and sometimes a coloured semi-transparent box appears on top of text boxes.
I have made sure that all text boxes are brought to the front layer.
Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong while exporting or could this actually be a browser problem on a mac?

The only viewer that you can count on for reliability is Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

To view it in an acceptable format, yes. You can try using an opensource program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice and see if it yields better results. However, I'm sure if it would be compatible with a document made with word processing software from 9 years ago, but I would certainly give it a try.

The system was not my own, it was on a PC belonging to the school where I teach. The error message referred to Acrobat 9.0, so I assume that the problem is to do with the version on which the file was created being more recent than that on which I attempeted to open it.

If your copy of PS was for Win, your installation disk is not compatible with Mac. You can't use a Win serial number on Mac either. You would need to contact Adobe Customer Care and request a cross grade. Depending on which version you own, this may no longer be possible. I believe CS6 still qualifies for cross grades though.
Another option is to join the Creative Cloud Photography Plan ($9.99/mo) which includes PS CC and Lightroom which will run on on both Mac & Win.

If you mean Photoshop v 5.0, no. It's no longer sold or supported.
If you mean Photoshop CS5, you would have to purchase CS6 Mac as a cross platform upgrade.

How to save edit settings under preferrences to use when creating or printing a PDF from word 2003 Windows PC 8.1

I have tried to save my PDF settings after editing them, but when I go to "Print" to PDF and check the settings I keep getting Standard default settings.
There is no Adobe PDF listed as a file heading to change conversion settings on my Word screen.
I have tried to create a PDF by open file through the Adobe application and also by trying to print through the Word application with document open and using Adobe PDF as the printer driver.I have changed or edited the settings but they do not appear as an option to select, just the standard default settings.
I have been able to save my setting as a Adobe PDF job options, but can't access them or use them when it comes time to convert to PDF.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have apprached it 3 different ways:
- by opening acrobat and going to preferrences, clining on convert to PDf
- Microsoft Word, then changes each section of the edit settings, ie
general, fonts, images, etc make the cahneges then hit OK, at this point I
get a save as option rather than a save. It saves my changes as a PDF, but I
am not able to access it when I go to make the PDF.
- I also have tried to print PDF from Word and got to properties to make
the changs with the same results as above.
- Then I tried yur suggestion and went to the printer in the control panel
and had the same results.
I am using mircosoft word 2003 which has been compatable with my windows 8.1
I think the problem may be I am using a "trial" version of Adobe Acrotbat DC
2105 version. It must not belettingme save the setting changes.But this
shouldnot be if they want me to really experience the full effects of the
program.

I just got myself a new Intel based Mac and I wanted to transfer all the music that I have on my Windows formatted iPod to my Mac. How exactly can I accomplish this? Now, I'm not too fancy with all these computer terms and all so easy to understand language would be appreciated.

Maximizing windows looks strange in Gnome 3.2

Since I upgraded to Gnome 3.2, maximizing windows looks really strange (the left and top border of the window is cut off).
I have set everything to default in the gnome tweak tool. What do you think causes this?

Prevent PDFs from Changing Adobe Window Size & Position

Some PDF files have embedded codes to change the size and / or position of the Adobe (or Reader) window. This is a very irritating "feature" and is completely unnecessary, at best. I have looked through the various Preferences setting but nothing seems to address the problem. How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks guys. Is there a way to prevent this action globally, i.e. for all documents, rather than just document-by-document after the fact? Any well-designed software would have a way to prevent documents from messing up my screen configuration, so I assume someone at Adobe had the wherewithall to have that as an option in Acrobat.

Final images in a saved .pdf from Illustrator don't look correct

Illustrator Newb:
I'm making a design for a new product that comes in 3 different flavors. So I have 1 design, in 3 different colors.
I created all of my different parts for the design in Photoshop CS4 as .pdfs and placed them all in an Illustrator file (except for the text and a few shadows, strokes and such). I'm having problems with 1 of my placed images. It's placed 4 different times, and all 4 are either not showing up or are cropped in odd irregular ways. I have no paths or other hidden parts in the file that would cover them and it only shows up wrong when the Illustrator file is saved as a .pdf.
I went back to the original .psd thinking there was a problem w/ it, and resaved it under a new name and it still saves in AI all broken up.
Because I have 3 different flavors, I've done this in the other files, from that same orignal .psd and they turned out fine. And because this design is confidential I can't post pictures of the error to help describe my problem... The problem started yesterday and we're already behind production schedule.
But any help would be nice. Please and thank you!

The first design I made in AI I saved the .ai file under a different name and changed the minor things I needed to make it the other flavor. I can't go back to that original file because I keep getting a Runtime Error when I open it. Not every file has this error, just the original.. THE ONE I REALLY NEED.

Migrating from itunes on windows to itunes on a MAC

Hi,
I currently have about 110 Gbytes of disk space assigned to iTunes on a windoze XP system. I'd like to move over to using a G5 that i've just bought.
What's the best way of doing it?
This is what I've tried so far:-
1). Set up an NFS mount between the windows machine and the G5
2). Created a new itunes setup on the G5
3). Tried to add to the library on the G5 by specifying the nfs mount point.
While I can get to the directory, i get an error message saying that it cannot find a library.xml file ( or itunes library.xml file, can't remember which)
Next attempt was to create a temporary directory on the G% and perform a copy that traverses directories from the NFS mount point (/mnt/shared/xp_itunes) to a temporary directory.
Problem here was that when i riped off my CDs into the windows version of iTunes, there were a lot of album or track names with non ASCII characters. When you try and use the cp command, it bleats about them and skips the copy.
Next attempt was to use tar to generate a single (tar) file with the whole directory structure in there. It doesn't like the non standard characters either.
While i could back up itunes to 11 DBDs or so and then try and then restore them onto the G5, is there another way?

fixed it myself.
nfs mounted the windows disk directory and managed to import the music.

Migrating from PSE for Windows 6 to PSE for Mac 6 including metadata

Can't find anything in the knowledge base on this.
I am giving up on Windows. Its just too messy and ugly. One of the final changes will be migrating from MS Windows Vista and PSE 6 to a brand new Mac, using LEopard 10.5.2 and PSE for Mac 6.
I want to migrate my images from the Windows machine, as well as the metadata organizing information. Surely I am not the only one with this need. I know I can save the mages in a mutually readable file format, export, and have them on the Mac, but I have a great deal of metatdata and image organization in the Windows version of PSE 6.
Please tell me how to migrate the entirety of PSE for Windows to my new Mac.

Some related questions-- can Bridge CS3 search sub-folders? Could I filter for a Keyword at the top of a tree, and locate all files with that keyword in sub-folders?
While exporting files from PSA2 on a PC I am using Share / Email to attach my existing keywords. Can they be drag-and-drop added to a Hierarchy in the Keywords panel? (Either from the Filter panel where they are automatically listed and counted, or from the "Other" location in the Keywords panel where they appear italicized?)
I had deluded myself into believing that PSE6 for the Mac included Organizer. Would Lightroom be a logical option for organizing? Particularly if I want to catalog many images on CD without storing them on disk? Can it be purchased separately? What other options would you recommend?

I have recently downloaded a copy of Adobe Acrobat. I would like to use my scanner to create PDF's through Adobe Acrobat. The problem is that when I attempt to create a document within Acrobat, I cannot seem to chose the scanner, it is not available. The scanner is an HP Photosmart 5510 and has been installed on this computer for years. Please help.

Many of the HP Multi Purpose Units you have to Manually switch to Scanner In System Preferences > Printer & Scanners.
Before the scanner will show up in Acrobat.
