Obscene Prices for International Calls!!! What a Rip-Off!!!

I just took a look at my very first bill and to my surprise, my 10 year old had attempted to make 6 (1 minute calls) and 1 (29 minute call) to England to speak with her father. I admit it was partly my fault because with the last company they could just pick up the phone and call their father and I neglected to tell them that they could not do that anymore. Blah, blah, blah.....my 1st Verizon bill is $220.00 (@$100 or so in long distance charges for basically 1 call).
I called customer service to get some kind of relief but nothing. The advisor said that the billing is done by a 3rd party and that verizon can not do anything about it. I was a loyal Verizon cellular customer for 2 years, paying my bill on time and all and this is how they treat me.
I'm sorry...I know this blog si probably for people who have real issues but I needed to vent my frustration!!! I guess it's time to look for another carrier or go back to old one. For the sake of my sanity and wallet, I had a block put on my phone for international calls but how nice it would have been for Verizon to step up and do the right thing. They could have atleast put me on the international plan and backdated it!!!! GRINCH!!!! BTW, 1 minute call to England is $2.89 so don't make the same mistake!!!!

I feel your pain. I'm in bill shock too. I made one phone call to China and my bill was $200. When I called Verizon for help, they refused.
Actually the FCC received so many complaints about this issue related to cell phones that they were going to pass a law to regulate it. As a preemptive measure, many wireless carriers voluntarily agreed to send text messages to users when their charges were approaching their monthly limit. Unfortunately, there was no such action taken for landlines. Hence your and my situation.
It certainly would be a smart business decision for Verizon to include a voice alert on landlines warning you of the rate you are about to incur, as it would prevent these situations from happening, but they have yet to do so. Every time they do something like this, they lose a long-term customer for a quick profit.
Verizon is aware of the problem. It happens to millions of customers a year. But until people like you and I put pressure on the FCC to regulate them regarding landlines, nothing will change. So I encourage you to contact  http://www.fcc.gov/

All six Uk carriers carry the iPhone officially and micro sims are very common therefore
PAYG is very common in UK every carrier offers a number of packages but all commitment free

  • Accept step causing issue for internal calls

    Hello,
We have been using Cisco IPCC for several years now to handle calls from external customers.
Now we like to use it also to handle calls to our internal helpdesk but face the issue that the IPCC will not accept any internal calls.
After initial troubleshooting, we find out that, for internal calls, the script will just fail at the very first "Accept (-- Triggering Contact--)" step !!!
This executes without problems when calling the same application/script but from external phone.
So far we have been unable to find out the root cause.  Any idea ?

    Hello,
My guess is that your problem is codec because you said that the call is dropped , all the way , check the codec and check what Anthony said.
In case you have a codec mismatch , you have to do one of these two:
    1- configure a transcoding resources
2- make a device pool and a sperate region with a location that every other region can talk to this region (UCCX region) via a one codec , in this case you will not get the call dropped.

  • Could facetime be used for international calls and free of charge???

Could facetime be used for international calls and free of charge???
Or does it work the same way as any other 2G calls???

For the iphone 4, I believe that have to do a initial voice call first (if it's not in your recent call list), and then start the live video chat (facetime). I could be wrong but if you have no recent call history with facetime, you would have to start a voice call again, and then immediately switch to facetime to prevent international cost. I haven't tried this so I would not now, but I only assume that if you don't have him/her on the recent list with facetime.

  • When I updated my software version on my ipod touch it wiped out everything, software I had payed for, pictures, music, video. What a rip off. I would just go back to my last version, but I'm sure it wouldn't help. What a ripoff. Does anyone have any idea

You can redownload iTunes pruchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
The iPod backup that iTunes makes during every sync and and as the a early step of an USB update does not contain synced media like apps and music. It has aloways been that way. If rhe synced media is not in your iTunes library when you do the restore it can't be synced to the iPod during a latter part of the update. See:

  • 4G Wireless....what a rip off!!!

What a rip off!!!  I was mislead by Verizon that I would have unlimited internet access for $50 a month.  What I wasnt told,  was that if you use more than 5GB then you are automatically charged another $50 to raise the storage to 10GB. What happened to unlimited useage??? I thought this would save me money and I was told that it would save me money from my previous DSL. Whereas, it has cost me more money! I will be paying the $175 fee to disconnect from this service.

This is the plans that are offered by the company....  So if you are getting 10GB for 50.00 you appear to be getting a discount, are you sure you did not misunderstand the information you received?
When you have unlimited the plan would be unlimited and wouldn't change on your use, if you was told if you go over 5GB it would change to unlimited that isn't how the plan works so maybe it was just a misunderstanding..

  • Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult

Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult to deal with. Why did it quit after barely being used? Any help from Apple?

It depends on what you mean by "barely one year old". If the iMac is only a couple of days out of warranty, Apple's been known to make exceptions and extend the warranty, though it's by no means guaranteed. If it's several days or more out of warranty, then Apple will fix it, if it's a hardware problem, but the repair won't be free. This is no different now then it would have been with a Mac purchased back in the 80s.
Why the drive failed, if indeed it has, is impossible to say. Could have been a static shock, a weak component that failed when power was applied, or a mechanical fault in one of the tiny parts used in optical drives and hard drives that finally broke.
    Regards.

Hello -- I've international call block switched ON my account from April. Couple of customer reps confirmed and even today when I called they confirmed that international call block is switched ON for my line.  My daughter plays around with my phone and unfortunately we got a bill of $350 for June even though international call feature is disabled. What does international call disable means? Any one have same issue?

  • Set up prepaid calling card for international calls?

I have a prepaid calling card that I use for calling international. The way it works is that I have to call a 866 number, followed by entering a 10 digit code, and then proceed to calling the actual number (with international prefix codes). Is there a way to set this up as international call default so that I do not have to modify all my international contact's phone numbers to include this procedure?
    Thanks.

  • Viewing call details for International calls

    Hi,
I have been using Verizon Wolrd plan for making International calls and still unable to view my call logs (until I get my monthly bill). Called support group so many times and explained this issue and as usual got different types of reasons for the lack of call detail info but never got the solution to my problem. Are there any plans to fix this issue? ..
    Thanks

We can definately take a look at that. I have sent you a Private Message so I can get your account info.

  • Differing ringtones for internal calling versus external incoming calls

I have a Cisco IP Phone SPA 303. I am trying to figure out a way to have a different ringtone when we are calling internally within our system versus what we hear when an outside customer calls in. Is this a possible feature for this phone and if not, does Cisco make a phone that has this capability? Please email me ([email protected]) or post back to this post.

  • Unlock GSM for international calling

I am considering Iphone purchase but I need a phone that has unlocked GSM that can be used with various SIM cards. I notice that Iphone supports 850/900/1800/900mHz which is good, but I cannot find any info concerning unlocking GSM to allow phone to be used internationally with foreign SIM cards. Does anyone know if I can purchase an Iphone with unlocked GSM that will work with foreign SIM cards? Thanks in advance for your responses.

If you have an iPhone with ATT, it will use international roaming while in the UK.
Indeed it will. And that's fine as long as you are on somebody's expense account. Alas, if you are a mere financial mortal schlub, you'd be better off doing what I do and carry a cheap unlocked GSM phone for use abroad, and either use a European Roaming Sim Card (like United Mobile) or buy a local sim card if you will be in-country for a little while.
Is all this a pain? You bet. That's why we're all begging for unlocked iPhones!

  • UC320W - Call restrictions for internal calls

Related to my previous post (19 Oct one way audio). Do i need to add the internal dialling key code (eg 2xx) to the call restrictions? I don't see it in any of the full, expanded or basic privilege levels. If so, how do i add this? I am using firmware 2.3.2(6)
    Thanks

  • Prices for people calling me

    Hi everyone,
I posted a little while back but no one replied to me so I thought I would repost it
I am off to work in the states in July and need a cheep way for people to contact me. I already have an online number which is an 020 (London) local rate number, will it make a difference in costs if they call me while I am outside the UK as opposed to inside the uk?
    Thank you

It will make a difference only when calls are forwarded by your Skype account to a phone.  If you are logged into Skype and receiving the calls from your London 020 number that way, it won't cost you anything extra.  Forwarding calls from Skype to a phone will cost you, unless you have a subscription covering where those calls are going.
If you are forwarding calls from Skype to a US number (i.e., a mobile phone), you can cover those costs with an Unlimited USA & Canada subscription for GBP 1.99/month plus VAT (or US$ 2.99/month).  If you don't opt for the subscription, you can use Skype Credit to cover the costs of those calls - 1.4p/minute plus VAT to USA landline or mobile phones, or 2.3 US cents/minute, plus the connect fee.  Calls to Alaska are a little higher, 3p/minute plus VAT or 6 US cents/minute, plus the connect fee.
    Good luck!
