The enhanced turbo function should have no effect on CPU maximum speed. What it does it places all of the cores in lock step. By default only a single core would increase with turbo while enhanced turbo increases all of their multiplier to the same multiplier when turbo is activated.

MSI Z87 G45 GAMING erratic BSOD/freeze @ 2300, stable @1600. Can't solve.

Hi All,
I would welcome some advice. I am about 4 months into a new machine build:
* MSI Z87 G45 GAMING motherboard
* i7-4770K Haswell 3.5 GHz & aftermarket heatpipe cooler
* 4 x 4Gb G.Skill SNIPER DDR3-2133 PC3-1700 (F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR)
* GeForce GTX 650 Ti w/ 2 Gb Video RAM
* Samsung 840 Pro 256 Gb SSD
* Thermaltake 700W Toughpower
* Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
The system seems to run fine at the default 1600 MHz RAM speed, however if I implement either of the X.M.P. profiles (which kick the memory speed up to the RAM's advertised speed of 2133 MHz), the system will occasionally (every 8 to 48 hours) freeze or BSOD. The BSOD stop codes are inconsistent in number (0x00, 0x41, 0x1E, 0xC4) and driver. When the system freezes, there is no consistent behavior. I am not doing any other overclocking besides using the X.M.P. profile in the memory.
RAM timing on the 2133 X.M.P. profile is: 11-11-11-30.
I have updated the BIOS to 1.5, including the ME, and updated all drivers in the system. All irrelevant hardware and drivers are disabled. Also I have done the following:
* MemTest+ 5.01 for over 30 hours, all 4 sticks in. No errors.
* Intel BurnTest on 'Very High', 10 passes, no errors
* Prime95 for over day with 90 C CPU temps constantly being hit. No errors.
* Unigine Valley Benchmark for 30 minutes; no issues
I increased V_DRAM from 1.60V (from the XMP profile) to 1.65V, and I also added +0.10V offset to increase the CPU I/O ANALOG , CPU I/O DIGITAL and SYSTEM AGENT voltages. Didn't seem to help. All other CPU voltages are default from [auto].
I rolled the memory speed back to the default 1600 MHz, and the system seems stable as a rock.
I don't really need to have the memory run at 2133 MHz, but it irks me that the system is not stable with the rated components, and I'm befuddled why the stress tests seem to pass just fine, then the system will randomly hang with arguably a far less demanding load than the stress tests.
Note that I have not yet:
* reset the CMOS when changing to X.M.P. Perhaps I should?
* reseated the graphics card or CPU. The latter will require R/R of the thermal grease, which I will do if needed, but it's a pain. Since the system is stable at 1600 MHz, I assumed that all basic systems are working as they should.
* Tried to work my way up in memory speed step by stem from 1600 to 2133 to see where things fall apart.
* Tested the video memory
I suspect main system memory, despite the clean bill of health from MemTest, and based on many of the comments to others with similar problems from the veterans on this board. I don't want to push the CPU voltages too much above the default/auto values, for fear of damage and reduced lifetime.
Also, the power supply is a nice unit from an older high-end gaming rig. It is rated at 700W. The PS does probably have over 30,000 hours on it (24/7 use for 3-4 years), however. Strange that it would work at 1600 MHz fine, and with only slightly more power load at 2133. I suppose stranger things have happened.
I've read the suggestions to run only 2 sticks, rather than 4, but I can't justify dropping $140 on new memory (I don't really need the extra speed benefit, it's more curiosity and just not knowing at this point).
Anyway, perhaps more seasoned souls than I can share their thoughts. The system is perfectly usable at 1600, but I'd really like to know where the lockups are stemming from. Troubleshooting is maddening because of the inconsistency in the long times before failure and lack of repeatability to reproduce the issue.

Turns out I also found this from G.SKILL in going over reviews of the memory modules I have. Another user had a similar configuration as mine and was having similar problems. G.SKILL replied:

Not knowing any better, I simply purchased two "kits" of 2x4 GB each and installed them. Perhaps worse, if the modules were matched, I may well have mixed them up so the matched modules don't even sit in the same channels 1/3 or 2/4. G.SKILL seems to have a pretty responsive board, so I'll ask them what they suggest.
Also in the end, I really just want a stable machine. This is a basically an office/engineering machine. My initial thinking was that if the system was unstable at 2133 then there is something wrong with it that needs to be fixed. It sounds instead like getting to 2133 is not guaranteed, and is much more of an art than simply throwing the modules in and powering up the system.
I'm perfectly happy at 1600 knowing the system is stable. Indeed realizing now that 2133 requires overclocking, I may well have backed off to 1600 even if everything had worked just fine at 2300, just to trade extra stability for the (small) performance improvement that I would likely never notice anyway.
I'll put together a post for the G.SKILL forums, and if I get anything useful I'll post what I learn here for completeness.

Blank Screen No Beep No Post on new Z87-G45 Gaming

I posted this on another forum, but since I think my issue might be a bit different I figured a new message would be better.
I switch on older mobo with the this one, new ram, and new Cpu.
When I power it on everything spins up but no post no screen no beep nothing....just spinning fans.
I did all the tests, plugs, bent socket, ram chips, etc...
Since I was switching out a older motherboard with this one, I knew my power supply was good but who knows.
Today. I took a case and stripped it down to metal...put in all the correct mounts in the correct positions, new (in box) Antec 650W PSU
Mounted the board in the new case, connected the speaker, usbs and switches. Plugged in the PSU.
Note: I didn't hook up anything. No Hard disk, no DVD drive, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing.
plugged in the monitor (via DVI)
turned it on...same result. Spinning CPU fans but no beep and a blank screen.
BTW, I registered at the MSI support site but since I send in my serial number tag for the rebate I couldn't register a product.

Just an update.
I returned the board to Fry's and while there, there was someone else returning the same board for the exact same reason. He got a different board and I just exchanged mine for the same model (even though it was an open box).
I followed xmad's advice and did a out of case test with it. While sitting on the plastic 'Conductive Grid Bag, I plugged in the CPU, the RAM and the power. Hooked up the DVI and turned on the power.
and....got a message on the screen about the amount of memory has changed.
I'll take that. Putting the board in the case and hooking up all the wires now.

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, sound from USB mouse?

Hi!
I have some issue from my new computer, see spec below.
For the information I have a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard.
I have some sound that occurs sometimes (specially during the first 2-5 minutes) when i move the mouse around.
It occurs as well sometimes when I been using the computer for a while, basically random just more frequently at the start-up.
It's hard to know from where the sound occurs, could be PSU but today I read something on another forum about the motherboard I'm using:
- Higher sound quality using USB, thanks to special adapted current power.
So i wounder if this can be the case? Is that the reason why i get this noise from inside the computer?
Is there some way to disabled this "feature" in BIOS?

The sound sounds like the old mechanics hdd kinda.
It comes inside the computer, not the speakers.
My feelings is that it can be the PSU as well, just wanted to check this first, since it most often comes when i move my mouse.

How to increase maximum buffer memory on MSI Z87-G45 Gaming,s1150?

is there a way to increase the maximum buffer memory for PCI-E X16 ports? e.g. a bios setting that allows this?
here are my specs:
- 2 x XFX HD7950 Double Dissipation (FX-795A-TDFC)
- MSI Z87-G45 Gaming,s1150
- Intel Core i3-4130,s1150
- 1 x TNAV6R00 Corsair RM1000 (Gold standard)

perhaps I can be a bit more specific regarding my problem
I am using above described rig for mining purposes. One of the related performance variables is 'thread concurrency' (CGMINER). it is currently set to value 8192, corresponding to about 512mb of buffer memory for the PCI-E ports. I can not increase it, as i get the error that the system is out of buffer memory. Thing is, the system should have a lot more. The PCI-E cards hav 3GB each and my system ram is 2x4GB.
one relate variable I am already using is the following command line
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
this usually solves above problem, but not in this case...
anybody got any ideas?

Can't reboot (Z87-G45 Gaming)

I have a rather strange problem and am hoping someone from MSI might have a few suggestions.
I recently upgraded my rig with a new mobo and cpu. I went with a gigabyte Z87-d3h and immediately noticed that my pc would not reboot, it just sits there with a black screen although I do hear the hard drive doing something. My old AMD computer had worked fine with the components I kept, namely the ram, PSU and graphics card. So I came to the conclusion that the motherboard was faulty and sent it back.
I decided to try a different brand and went for the MSI-Z87-g45-gaming. Sadly I have exactly the same problem which was rather baffling.
Some more details about the behaviour:
- If I unplug the graphics card, and just use onboard vga, it DOES reboot fine.
- When using the graphics card, it does actually reboot normally some of the time, I would say about 20%.
- the behaviour is the same whether I am in windows or rebooting from the BIOS
- I was using bios 1.4 and I saw that 1.5 had an updated graphics output driver. Excitedly I updated to 1.5 and indeed it rebooted fine a couple times, but then reverted to old behaviour
Are there any BIOS settings I could try to see if i can fix this?

Upon the non win8.1 updates being finished, i booted into the bios and reset all the settings to default. So far it has been restarting without any problems for windows setup stuff, which is a good sign as when i was installing just the base win8, it had to restart and got locked up in that black screen. Ill have to narrow down what in the bios triggers the issue, but i believe that it is something to do with fastboot as nothing else really makes sense. Worst case its the OCGenie button, or OCing the ram that was doing it, but im not sure if you were doing those so that may or may not be a similar thing that you are doing.

Z87-g45 gaming - Damaging my RAM?

When I first built this rig, there were no problems. After about a month, BSODs and random errors started popping up. Memtest86+ found errors on one of the RAM sticks (2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866 kit). So I got the RAM kit replaced.
Replacement kit worked fine for about a month, and once again the same thing. I did of course test with Memtest86+ right away and there were no errors. My feeling is that the motherboard is perhaps overloading the RAM in slot 2. I believe it was the same slot that the last stick got damaged in, though I can't be 100% certain of that.
I've made no changes to the BIOS configuration during all this time, so everything is still set to the default settings. I haven't updated BIOS. No overclocking either.
Any suggestions? Should I make a ticket with MSI? Could this all just be bad luck with RAM?

Everything is default? 1866 'rated' RAM is not default. What does CPUID's utility CPU-Z show for RAM speed in the Memory Tab? XMP enabled?
Bad luck? Possibly, but with over 3 dozen MSI mainboards, P45 Platinum to Z87 MPower Max, our family and friends are using Corsair RAM exclusively for at least 5 years, not one has had a RAM stick fail yet.

Flashing Z87-G45 GAMING bios

Hi I'm in need of new bios for my motherboard Z87-G45 GAMING current version is 1.A0 (out of the box) and latest ME drivers .
I will be using MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool.

With MFlash and Forum tool it's always different story.. both can flash it perfectly fine, but if you get a single byte error in a file or other thing that can corrupt something while flashing, either can brick it. Use what you prefer to use.

Z87-G45 Gaming not able to install Win7 x64 with Samsung 840 EVO

I have a brand new:
i5 4570
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
250GB Samsung 840 EVO
1x 8GB Corsair ValueRam DDR3 1600
I got everything hooked up properly, but I am not able to install Win7 x64 through an USB pen drive (Kingston Datatravel 32GB USB3) I have a proper official and Legit MSDN ISO, formatted by the Win7 USB tool from MS itself.
Note that i do not have an optical device (DVD) installed so I cannot use it 'the old way'.
Bios settings are okay, everything is recognized
USB Legacy - Kingston Datatraveler
HDD Legacy - Samsung 840 EVO
Win7 setup loads properly; but before I can select the Harddrive / SSD to install Win7 on I get prompted that additional (3rd party) drivers are needed to proceed. The volume is not recognized. This happens 9 out of 10 times. In the 10% cases I do get the option to format the SSD and/or create partitions. However, installation fails after all, cannot load or find file ...
What I've tried so far:
Switch out the SATA cables and power cables
Switch through the various SATA ports on the MB 1 through 6
Tried UEFI and UEFI/Legacy (UEFI doesn't seem to work at all)
Update UEFI to V 1.50
All the above result in the case mentioned.
I have succesfully installed the SSD in an other PC, using the same pen drive and ISO and it worked like a charme, thus ruling out that the SSD, pen drive or image is corrupt.
Even when I switched out the SSD after Win7 setup has succesfully copied, unpacked and installed all the files (doing this on the other machine where it works like a charm). Then switching it to the MSI Z87...it fails; starting the setup procedure right from the start, like nothing was ever written on the SSD...
Finally i turned to Win8, and guess what, it installed without any glitches on the MSI Z87
What am I missing here, I would really want to install Win7 instead of Win8
Forgot to enable / disable something in the UEFI? I really don't know, google doesn't give much information on this specific problem (SSD is recognized properly by the BIOS / UEFI as far as I can tell)
The only thing I have not tried out so far is updating the Samsung SSD firmware to the 1.0 version which has been release 3 days ago...
Any clues, tips, hunches??

I didn't change it from the default setting I think, unless it is part of the Win8 features in the UEFI. All where disabled by default, and I kept them disabled.
Where is Secure Boot listed in the UEFI, and any idea wether it is enabled by default?

MSI Z87-G45 GAMING.. does the killer networking work with Windows 8.1?

I was scrolling through the reviews for this board and someone mentioned in the reviews that the killer networking isnt supported with windows 8.1 yet.
Is this still true or are there updated drivers for windows 8.1 now?

Msi z87-g45 gaming, no display, no beep.

I am building a gaming computer. When i turn on my computer the cpu fan spins quickly then immediately slows down to a slow spinning state. My Boost audio light is on as well. But i get no display. I have tried the DVI HDMI and VGA outputs. I also accidentally pressed the cmos button while the compute was on. I also removed my mobo battery for 5 mins. Oh and on top of all that i dont have my standoffs. So maybe the board is short circuiting. But if that was the case my is my cpu fan remaining on as well as my boost audio light?
Here are my specs:
Ultra 550w ATX Power Supply
2 DDR3 in slots 2 and 4
Cpu with no bent pins (that i can tell)

Im having exactly the same problem did you manage to get it working in the end?
The board has been tested by aria computing and came back fine they have also replaced the RAM and CPU incase they were the problem. Il list all the things Iv tried so far. Thing that gets me is there is no beep when I turn it on so something is wrong and im banging my head against the wall not being able to figure it out.
Checked both power connections many many times
Check for shorts
Changed power supply
Changed RAM (and tested in all configerations)
Tested 3 monitors on all ports (onboard DVI, VGA and HDMI)
Put 3 GPU's in it as well and tested all ports on them
Tested on a low end CPU
Tried out of case with just power leads and a monitor connected (no HD,USB,frount audio)
Reset COSMOS and checked the battery

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming not entering setup or boot menu

Please someone help, I am getting no setup or boot menu, case & CPU fans come on, drives come on, led's come on, but blank screen.
I took out the graphic card & ram sticks, pulled the plug for leds & case fans, took all cables off HDD's, now only cpu & one stick of ram in dimm 2 connected + power switch.
plugged vga cable direct in MB, blank screen, then plugged cable in MB HDMI, blank screen.
tested monitor, ram & power supply in my sons computer which is a x58 LGA1366, all worked well.
I have no means of testing motherboard or cpu.
specs:
MB: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
CPU: i5-4670k
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 1866MHz 9-9-9-27 1.5v
PSU: Corsair CS650M
I also tried another PSU a Thermaltake AP850W
P.S.
I have reset all i.e. pulled plug, taken battery out, pressed reset & shorted the two reset pins next to battery.

newer board are different they need at least a CPU to even show a code as they use that to activate the BIOS and if they do not have that it will FAIL to post anything as the board is used as a backbone as nearly all the important stuff is on the CPU itself (Processor, IMC, SATA controller, Network Controller, VRM (on Haswell), GPU and many other things) so it will fail to post as before it was only a processor but now there more of a system on chip really and has most of the important stuff that used to be on the Board itself so without that the Motherboard is just an electrical plane with impressively limited connections as all the good stuff is now on the Processor that you do not have!
There is not much that you can tell till you at least get that CPU as the board has nothing to work with as there is nothing to process the signals from the BIOS so its just a useless item so shows nothing.

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming running the second gpu @ x2 speed

Hi i have a problem with my second gpu running x2 while my main gpu stay's @ x16 but it's suppose to be 8 and 8 ?

I don't really know if your non-identical cards working fine when combined crossfire.I think two identical card either for crossfire or sli are the best solution to avoid troubles. Apart from that ,you have enabled your crossfire setting from your driver ,right?(and your driver is up to date,I suppose)

P.S though Having a dual gpu card combined with a single gpu one with crossfire...I think that's impossible.

Hi, MSI Z87-G45 Gaming and Sapphire 290X, gpu fan is spinning, but black screen, only int. graphic is working. Downloaded all updates, bios 1.7 for mobo.... what else.....Any ideas?
