Obsolete IPad

Has anyone else brought any apple product and now found them to be obsolete. I have been trying to update apps on my iPad for sometime now, every time I do it says for me to update my iPad which I can't as it won't let me update past 5.1.1. I rang apple up to complain and even though they were very helpful, was told there's nothing I can do and to update it would mean buying a new iPad! I think this is absolutely disgusting that I've only had my iPad for a few years and they expect me to just going and buy a new one. This is not the first time this has happendend, i also cant update my ipod aswell as that is also an older version.I WILL NOT be buying a new iPad and WILL NOT be updating my iPhone when the time is up. I WILL be staying away from apple products in the future as I cannot afford to keep buying new ones because you decide that you won't support the older models!

Yes it is disappointing, I bought the 1st gen iPad when it came out but I was ready for a new one when the iPad 3 was announced, with the Retina Display, and front & rear camera's it was a worthwhile upgrade for me. My other half who isn't very technical uses my iPad 1 now, and although it crashes now and again, my guess due to compatibility issues perhaps? - she still uses it everyday.
My iPad 3 is still going strong and I'm keeping an eye out for this years stuff, yes I was/am tempted with the iPad Air, but to me it isn't that different to the 3 to warrant a purchase, technically though it's far more advanced, I seem to recall it being somethnig like 9 or 10 times faster processor/graphics wise watching the Apple presentation live last year?
But technology does move on and while it would have been nice to see iPad 1 supported longer with iOS, sometimes it just isn't possible.

Apple said when they announced iOS 6 months ago that it would not be supported on the iPad 1, so it should have come as no surprise to you. But your iPad is by no means obsolete. It does everything that it did on the day you bought it and almost certainly more since there has been two major upgrades to iOS and a number of minor ones since then.
If you get upset about such things easily, then you'll probably want to avoid purchasing any of this sort of device, since all manufacturers similarly stop providing updates a while after the device is discontinued. If fact, Apple provides updates for long than many manufacturers do.

It's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology.

I agree with the above poster. My partner and I have an iPad 1, but since we've upgraded it to iOS 5 and 6 respectively, all the apple apps (safari, iBooks, etc) would crash every 15 min. And once you upgraded, Apple does not allow you to downgrade. So Apple has basically turned our original IPads into a brick in a matter of 2 years and here's nothing we can do to turn the iPad into the original factory setting. And now they want several hundreds more from me so I can continue to do what I had intended to do with the original iPad, which is to only browse the internet. Apple's business practice seems sketchy to me... I don't want to keep buying a new iPad every 2 years because the old one turned into a brick. I was hopon there's be a class action lawsuit by now. We're now left with considering other cheaper options, nexus 7 or kindle fire.

Why is my iPad 1 being made obsolete

I keep getting messages on my iPad 1 that I need to update certain apps if I want to continue using them.
Then when I go to update them I'm told I need to update my Ios to version 6 or higher! Not possible with the iPad 1 which is only allowed to run Ios 5 at best. I understand that it lacks processor power to run the new Ios, but certain apps still allow me to run old versions of their apps, compatible with old versions of the Ios. However bigger brand apps such as 4OD and (soon to join) Linkedin will not allow access to older versions of their apps.
Now the current solution it seems is to fork out £430 (for the Ipad 2 which is probably destined for a similar fate) or £500 for the new iPad air, just so I can continue to use these free apps. A large part of the Ipad app community. This seems completely excessive when it's not me making the decision that my iPads getting on.
Will this also happen to apps that I have paid for? Why isn't Apple looking into an upgrade program to keep people using the iPad? Right now the Nexus is looking a lot more tempting with it's accessible price tag. I don't want to fork out another £500 for a tablet that wont last past the five year mark, purely because of the developers forcing us to upgrade.
The battery life is still perfect on my iPad and it still runs the apps I’m allowed to have. It's in perfect working order. But I fear that in less that a years time it will only be useful as a door wedge. Will Apple look after their customers? The ones who invested in the first model of this revolutionary tablet?

Yeah I think Raymond's analogy is a little ott. A more accurate analogy is having a floppy disk reader that has a firmware patch that decides you can only use new shiny floppy disks with a whole extra 1mb of space on it. The old 30mb floppy disks are now unreadable. I'm not against progress at all. In fact I crave it. But there is simply nothing wrong with my iPad yet I'm told that I have to be rid of it and invest heavily on whatever is newer.
The iPad 1 and iPad Air provide the same apps and the same architecture. I would be totally fine if I could use archive versions of the apps I'm currently using. But instead I am told I cannot use them at all anymore, simply because something newer exists.
Just thought of another analogy: I just bought Day of the tentacle (amazing game) for my dusty old G mac 4. Suddenly a new version of Day of the tentacle comes out with marginally improved graphics (which would be awesome), Ok so it doesn't work on my G mac, I can live with this. But if that update suddenly made my older version stop working, then I think that my purchase has become slightly void, it doesn't matter how many years I've owned it or what it its. I purchased it for a reason and now bit by bit some one is removing accesibility just because it's too old.
You know I even heard the new Wii U has a built in magnet that corrupts any N 64 cartridges that you have in your house. Because who would even want to use those things anymore?
I just don't see reason in this happening except for forcing me to fork out another £500 on something that will turn around and do the same in a shorter period of time. It's not a great way to treat long term customers of a specific brand and product.

Will my Ipad 1st Gen become Obsolete as of Feb 2013

Due to the apple deadline of making all apps ios7 ready by febuary will this mean that my Ist gen ipad will become 80% uselss,
Since the 1st gens can not update past ios5. I know with previous iphones any apps that funtion at a lower ios will not work.
Will this be the same for my ipad?

When I search ios 4: I only get 48 apps. The first couple I clicked were actualy not compatible with ios 4. most of them were non rated-3 star games
When I search ios 5: I get 46 apps most are games or refrence and 19 of them were in another language....
I'm sure there are apps out there that don't fall under this type of search, but again I get frustrated when I see an app I would like to use and find out that I cant download it. Especially when I have only had it for 3 years.
I also understand that it costs money for app companies to host an app that backtracks to previous ios systems. Do I really believe that companies will continue to pay for hosting on an app that only pleases a small popualtion of ipad 1st gen users? It dosnt make any business sense.
I am just trying to figure out if my device is worth keeping or trying to sell it now while it might be worth something.
I love apple products but I get really frustrated when I have a 500$ piece of equipment that runs 100% fine but will be so limited to only ever use the apps I have now. Its an easy choice for me to choose purchasing apple products because for me they last way longer than any other brands I have tried. 3 years for a 500$ product just doesn't sound right to me when it works fine.

There are 2 versions of a document file on my iPad.
I want to get rid of the obsolete one.
The iPad Users Guide does not describe how to delete a document file.

I can change my apple ID for iPad, but my iPhone keeps an ancient one, and I can't change it.

Several years ago I set up a password for AppleStore on my iPhone, but something's gone wrong and it doesn't work.
The right solution seemed to be to get it to match my new iPad AppleStore password (which I guess is just my Apple password).
System support helped me get access to AppleStore working from my iPad.
But my iPhone somehow clings to my ancient outdated username, and I cannot change it in any way that I can find.
I thought that there was just ONE AppleStore password, but I guess not.
I want to make the AppleStore password for my iPhone match my AppleStore password for my iPad.
I changed my Apple password yet again today. (For my current email address, of course.)
How can I get my iPhone to use this new email-address/password also for AppleStore when I try to use my *iPhone*?
(Alas it always prompts me for my password to my outdated, obsolete, and no longer used previous email account.)

Ipad screen doesn't light up

My ipad screen suddenly went dark without any external forces. At first I can hear the unlock/ lock sound when I slide across the screen and so touching is not a problem.
I proceeded to sync my ipad and was prompted to upgrade to ios 7.0. I upgraded thinking it will solve the issue, yet even the unlock/lock sounds have disappeared after which leads me to think that the ipad can't even enter the homescreen.
Since I can still see white apple and itunes mark on a lit screen during recovery mode, I don't think it's a hardware issue with the screen. I tried to restore it (with another prompt to upgrade to ios 7.02) but I failed and the restore error No. is 3041.
I copied the error log here, hope someone can give me some suggestions.

I would then try and do a hard reset like Fernando recomends if that doesnt work you might need to try a DFU Restore.

How can I display my macbook to ipad(s) using mirroring

There are plenty of times when I want to show the people in a meeting what i'm looking at or doing on my laptop. If they have an ipad, is there a way to "mirror" my macbook to their ipad(s) directly without signing in to skype/google+/any other video sharing and sharing my screen?
I saw the app reflection, but that goes the other way.

I have obsolete computers and devices attached to my appleid. I cannot deauthorize them as they are gone!!! (Had a fire and had to replace all tech systems) Because I spent alot of monies on my purchases, it would be nice to be able to combine all these items and not have to repurchase them. How can I update the current number of computers and correct ipods, ipads and iphones together; and get rid of all old computers and ipods, iphones that are authorized under the appleid I have always used. I have asked this question before, but received no support or answers. I do have icloud and mobileme, but cant sychonize them either.
I am also seriously considering purchasing a mac, and no longer using the windows pc\s as too many tech difficulties arise when I tackle complicated projects regarding DVD and moving making. However, I still require pc software for my work. Will my current backup network system convert easily? Can it be converted? Will I require a tech and if so, how much will this cost? I have recently invested a large sum into creating a network and backup system that has yet to be working as it should. Unfortuneately it has left me with very little left to try to convert to the mac systems entirely. Please answer my questions in a language that I can understand.....as this problem is affecting my household, organization and office techniques. Is any one tired of buying apple products to have them die or become obsolete in 1 to 3 years? I have 2 Ipod touch 5 nanos 1 pad out of all 3 are useable. Batteries die or you can't upgrade to use them with new apps. BIG WASTE OF MONEY.

I have gone through so many apple products to have the battery go out in 1 year or become obsolete in 3 years. I don't believe new apps can't be made to work with older devices and batteries should last more than a year. At this point I feel it's like so much in our world to force us to buy new or use our 3 year old ipod touch as a glorified MP3 player. Some of us can't afford to replace our devices if your like me you expect to use Apple products for a long time that's why you purchase Apple. I bought a ipad so i wouldn't have to carry a laptop but if I want to download music or a book to my nano or ipod touch I can't and who want to take a walk carrying a ipad? Would it be so hard to make a cord to attach a nano to a pad so you can download stuff? What happened to making the consumer happy? Then you call to get answers and you get, sorry that's the way it is we can't help you. Is it possible for 10.6.8 to sync mail with my ipad and iphone5?

I notice that all my mail is different from MacBook Air, iPad, and iPhone 5.
My iphone and ipad are on icloud. Even they don't sync. My ipad shows 55; my iphone shows 62, and my MacBook Air shows 66. So I can never trust that I have all my email unless I check all 3 devices.
The MacBook Air is still 10.6.8, and under system preferences, icloud of course is not listed -- it's still the obsolete mobile me.
My iPad does not have OS7 on it, because after putting it on iPhone 5, I have chosen not to update my iPad. I don't know what the version before OS7 was, but that is what is on my iPad. If I look under General > I see Version, so I'm assuming that is the version of OS on iPad, which shows 6.1.3.
I think that's all the info you need??? SO is there a way to sync all 3 so that my email is the same on all devices?
I did test a SYNC with my NOTES, from ipad and iphone, and they work fine.

Apple isn't placing draconian DRM or anything on Lion, just making the download through MAS. Which of course one as to register and pay for the download.

Apple is just taking advantage of high bandwidth, but high bandwidth isn't everywhere and data caps are ever increasing everywhere we look.
