Obsolete, overnight

I use my ipad to run a 40 channel sound desk, or at least did, until the software wouldn't update any more.
I have been told that Apple will not accept software updates for iOs5 ipads. The manufacturer of the desk can't therefore upgrade the app.
What's the trade in deal on old ipads that have suddenly become obsolete overnight?
Really cross, can't afford to buy a new one, especially as the one I have is working perfectly - apart from the app upgrades

Apple does not do electronics trade-ins.
You can try to sell your iPad on eBay or local media websites.
A web site like gazelle.com will give you some cash for your iPad, but it wiil not be enough to purchase a new iPad.

You can check Apple's website for certified refurbished iPads that will be a c heaper than new.
OR, if you have authorized Apple resellers in your area or authorized resellers online, you can opt to purchase a used, newer iPad that may be much cheaper than Apple's prices.

Accessories not working after updating to iOS 7.0.3

Why has Apple suddenly decided they need to cripple the iPad and iPhone from using after market accessories? All this achieves is to make attachments and accessories that have enhanced the Apple products for years and rendered them obsolete overnight.
Are Apple products now going to go down the same path as Microsoft where the hardware is so limited in what you can use with it that you can only buy from Apple? What a sad thing it is that Apple have taken this approach.

To bypass the software based block do the following.
Turn phone off.
As the phone is powering down, when the spinning icon is on the screen plug it in.
The phone will now charge to full
This doesn’t work if the phones fully powered down because it auto powers up the phone and recognises the chip and blocks it.
Its not ideal but it WORKS and is great for emergencies.
I suggest you search ebay for MFI / ios 7 cables there’s a lot out now. And NEVER update you're iphone again. Better yet just get a Samsung or htc or Google.
Its things like this that sent blackberry and nokkia down the tubes. Apple just did the same thing. They reached their tipping point. I'd give the iphone 3-4 years before its just a memory like the nokia ringtone or the blackberry qwerty keyboard. We'll remember iphones for their touch screens I think. Great example of a company not learning from other companies mistakes and failing to innovate.
Apple blocked a lot of cable keys. Including official keys that were suspected of being used on non-MFI cables.
Sony, Panasonic, belkin etc all pay big $$ to have a licence to use the proprietary 'lightning' cable. Which is basically a USB cable that apple wants everyone to use. The EU has laws against creating these kinds of devices due to the ewaste but because Apple is a monopoly on its accessories they can do anything they want. USB, more particularly micro-USB is the standard for every phone and tablet device. Apple is the only manufacturer who appears to ignore ewaste laws and anti-competitive laws and continue to insist on ID chips in everything it makes. They would put them in your food and brain if they could lol. Welcome to apple baby.

USB cables have never killed anyone yet somehow apple is trying to convince everyone they do lol... At least that’s what their marketing team is trying like the devil to say. I wish I could make a 50cent cable and charge $25 for it.
PS I called apple twice and spoke to 2 'genius’s'. I took in 16 cables. They denied there was a problem and then said maybe try an apple cable... which of course worked. Their solution was to recommend buying 16 new cables... I walked out. Sickening. They were all scripted to say 'we've never had this problem' and simply deny what’s happening. Anyhow my company has stripped apple off recommended status and moved to replace the 230+ iphones we supplied to companies with other brands. No one can copy files over without itunes, no ones cables work anymore. No one can Bluetooth files. No one can use personal music. Our head bosses thought it would be a good idea to keep everyone uniform. Now they are trying to ditch apple products as fast as they can due to these kinds of screw ups every 6 months on top of zero innovation.

Next iSync version

General topic for discussion - how likely do we think the next version of iSync will be shipped with the pending release of Tiger 4.8?
I read it's gone out to developers - could this have the connectivity for the phones we've all been waiting for?!?! Alas, I've now seen the Sony Ericisson Z610i (UK model number). This isn't even released yet, so I'v no hope of it being included in the next iSync release!

None of the rumour sites mention any iSync updates in 10.4.8, but I would be very surprised if many of my Plugins don't become obsolete overnight!
Even if the Z610i isn't immediately supported by iSync, it's quite likely I can develop an iSync Phone Plugin for it, with a little help/testing from owners of that phone.

Estou com uma dúvida em relação a aplicação da nota 1933985 - NF-e new layout 3.10.
Há 2 meses aplicamos completamente a nota 1933985, porém ao baixarmos novamente esta note via SNOTE, seu status não está mais como "Completamente Aplicada" e sim como "Aplicada Versão Obsoleta". Sendo assim, gostaria de saber se o correto neste caso, é voltar o status de implementação desta nota e executar a SNOTE novamente para ela? Ou se há alguma sugestão para este caso?
Temos outra nota na mesma situação e não temos certeza se podemos voltar seu status para executarmos novamente a SNOTE.

A última versão lançada para esta nota 1933985 , é a versão 9, do dia 22 de Agosto de 2014.
Acredito não ser possível implementar apenas a diferença entre as versões. Então, tente verificar qual versão foi implementada em seu sistema e atente aos detalhes de mudanças entre as versões, como descrito na nota.
O que acontece é que algumas outras notas foram inseridas como pré requisitos, assim como parte da solução e dos textos, mudaram ao longo das versões.
Então, verifique a possibilidade de reverter a sua aplicação feita anteriormente para proceder, desde o ínicio, com a última versão (9).

- After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod? If yes, restore the iPod from backup.

No way for us to know for sure (without similar product/issues) but the
HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that

IPhone 5s died overnight while charging, blue screen and logo loop

I was charging my iPhone overnight and woke up to a dead phone. Tried restoring with iTunes a few times with no luck, it kept giving me the error code 40. Everything on my Mac is up to date and am having no trouble connecting to the iTunes servers even though I'm in Kathmandu, so I assume this is a hardware issue now.
Tried to put it into DFU mode without any success, the only thing that it did was give me the blue screen, Apple logo, yellowish screen loop before going off again. Requested a call w/ Apple (Case ID: 608858029), but unsure if they'll have any luck reaching me through my Google Voice number on my laptop since I'm in Kathmandu and my phone is now obviously not working.
Even though I got the phone in late September last year, according to Apple I'm already out of warranty? Thought they had a one year warranty? In addition I cracked my screen back in March, so does that automatically void my warranty even though this BSOD seems to be an unrelated issue? The phone was working fine with the cracked screen for over a month. If my warranty is void and I'm not going to be getting any help, I might open up my phone and disconnect my battery as mentioned in this thread.
All suggestions appreciated. Since I'm going to be in Nepal / Tibet for another month, I might pick up a cheap Android phone if all else fails.

Due to the crappy internet connection, had trouble answering the calls in time every time Apple tried calling so I ended up calling them and had a very pleasant discussion with the CSR for about 30 min.
Phone would've been replaced under warranty except since I cracked the screen, I have to pay the out of warranty cost which is about $269 + tax. Reasonable even though it's much more than the $50 I was going to pay for a replacement screen. But the whole BSOD put a dent in those plans.
They also directed me to Apple Care in China, the closest country with authorized Apple centers to Nepal. Gave me the number (864006272273) which was helpful. But since I'll be on the move for the next four weeks I have no idea how they were going to get the replacement phone to me... unless they send a porter with it and track me down somewhere on the trail in Amphu Labsta.
Guess I'll just hold onto the phone until I get back to NYC.

My mid 2011 MacBook Air has slowed down significantly overnight?

Last night my MacBook Air was working fine.
When I went to use it this morning, it has slowed down significantly. It takes awhile for it to respond to trackpad movement or the keyboard. Opening finder is delayed now, opening any app is delayed now. Booting it back up takes extra long now, probably around a minute compared to thirty seconds before.
I've tried an SMC reset, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions.
From what I can see, the hardware doesn't appear to be failing, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone help me out? What could possibly be going on with my MacBook? How did this happen overnight?

Your MacBook Air's memory is not upgradable, and as you already determined unused storage capacity is not a relevant factor.
There are many reasons a Mac may be performing slower than expected.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.

Yes, new players include support for movies published under
older versions. The only problem is taking your old fla files and
publishing them with a newer version. That's when you have to
update your code.

[OBSOLET]Automatically logging in different sessions in KDM via kdmctl

I recently found comfort in KDE, so I try to use KDM on my mediacenter to manage both, a KDE session, as well as an XBMC session.
What I want to do: Log in as $USER on two different sessions, one with XBMC and one with the KDE desktop automatically on boot without the need to provide a password.
After playing a bit with the control center, I came as far as automatically logging in a user and/or allowing a user a passwordless login. This is a good first step. I cannot, however, find a way to define the session it should use, the control center setting for auto login will always use the default session (which is the last session I manually logged in to). There is no way to configure multiple sessions at once in the controlcenter.
So I looked for cli tools and discovered kdmctl. It has a number of features, for example will "kdmctl activate :1" jump to the display :1. Another step closer to my goal is "kdmctl reserve", which opens a new login prompt on the next free $DISPLAY. Now it seems like kdmctl is very session-sensitive. I need root access to call it from a tty, while a normal user is sufficient inside a KDM managed X session. Calling kdmctl in a tty will give me more options, than calling it in X, even with sudo. Upon "# kdmctl" in a tty, I can see resume, manage and login options, which are not there in a KDE session.
What I have so far:
1. I can use the KDE control center to log in a user automatically on :0, but I cannot specify the session (Plasma, XBMC, etc.).
2. I can run "# kdmctl reserve" to create a new login prompt at :1
3. I can login to :1 by issuing "# kdmctl login :1 now USERNAME PASSWORD", but only from a tty (which would be sufficient, as I intend to write a systemd unit).
What I cannot do:
1. I cannot specify the session. I have found http://docs.kde.org/stable/de/kde-works … opics.html, but it is not really helpful. It says I need "[session_arguments]" in the "format of printf specified .dmrc". I assume this is how I could specify my session, but I cannot find any documentation. Maybe I'm using the wrong keywords. There is neither a man page for kdmrc nor for dmrc. This is what I'd like to have some help with.
EDIT: It's not actually solved but has become obsolete. KDE4 is fading away and, according to the wiki, KDE5/plasma5 prefers SDDM. Besides that, I stopped using KDE, stopped switching sessions, stopped working on this a long time ago.

I suggest you upgrade your Oracle installation to 9.2.0.7 or 9.2.0.8 and then try again.

Hi Gouri,
If you are looking at determining whether a single FM is obsolete or not is by this method:
Go to FM in SE37 -> Goto Attributes Tab -> General Data section -> look above the Edit Lock field ... where SAP places the release status and date of the FM, if the FM is obsolete, the text Function Obsolete appears
This is one way of finding out one FM @ a time
However if you want to check on a mass scale, I dont have a SAP system here hence cant confirm, however, all FMs are stored in TFDIR database table. Please scroll through the fields of the DB table to check whether any field relates to release status or the like. If it does, then from SE16, you can put the value corresponding to "Obsolete" in the field and run to check all FMs.

DOWNLOAD is obsolete FM in ECC 6. To get the same functionality , we need to use
CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_SAVE_DIALOG method (It provides the File selection feature)
and
GUI_DOWNLOAD function module.(It downloads the internal table from program to presentation server)

Keynote storing obsolete format data, and possible connection to crashes

An “Ah ha!” moment with Keynote leading to a question about how it stores information regarding themes and fonts, and whether this is a bug in Keynote and/or if there is something that end users can do as a work-around. These points came to my attention today when I exported from Keynote to PowerPoint to share a (very inferior ) version of my presentation with a colleague. Note that the Keynote file I exported from has not exhibited any problems related to error messages or crashes.
(1) Prior to making the export, I changed all slides to Keynote’s standard out-of-the-box “Gradient” theme since I had used Keynote Theme Park animated “Global Cool” theme (www.keynotethemepark.com). However, even though no slide any longer contained the KTP theme, in doing the export Keynote created a media folder of movies that contained the animated KTP theme. So Keynote is apparently storing obsolete file data and not cleaning up its house after the file is changed.
(2) Prior to making the export, I changed all slides to use only fonts that I knew to be on my colleague’s PC. However, when I looked under the “Contents” tab of the resulting Powerpoint file’s “Properties” info, I discovered that Powerpoint was listing all the fonts that had been in the original Keynote file but that I had long since changed to Arial and Arial Narrow. Checking through the Powerpoint file slide by slide confirmed that the original fonts do not appear. Again, it appears that Keynote is storing obsolete information.
MY QUESTION: I am wondering if what I discovered today about Keynote’s “elephant memory” is indicating a bug of some sort, and if so, is there a reasonable work-around for end users that will enable us to avoid having files bloated with obsolete data.
Also, I am wondering if this storing of obsolete file data could be related to the ”missing file” error reports and Keynote crashes that others have noted in this forum and that I addressed in my previous post. The solution I had discovered was a file level work-around, but the question remained as to what had brought it on.
BTW, this is with Keynote 3.0.0 because I reinstalled Keynote recently thinking that this procedure might resolve the crashing problem described in my previous post to this forum; the reinstall didn’t, but the problem was solved at a file level in the manner described in my previous post. Now that I finally have time tonight to upgrade again to Keynote 3.02, when I run Software Update expecting to see the Keynote 3.02 upgrade listed, it’s not there. Hmmmmm.… I know I can get it from Apple’s download site but since the site lists two downloads (3.0.1v2 and 3.0.2), I thought it’d be better to let software update manage this process. Now I’m not so sure.

Thanks, dook and Kyn. Not only does that seem to resolve the issues, but deleting unused master slides dramatically drops the size of the exported presentation (e.g. to 20%).
I wish the Apple Keynote team would provide a way to more intelligently delete unused themes so as to make it easier to email presentations. It seems to me that theere should be a setting available in the export process where one could do this. The only way I could see to do it was one master slide at a time. Please tell me if I am missing something here.
I also wish we could export just a range of slides, e.g. from # to #, or slides selected in the Navigator/sorter/organizer.
