Obtaining and installing iphoto themes

I tried printing from iPhoto '11. A message came up stating no themes available. There must be a missing file/folder. How can I correct this problem?

They need to be linked to the application and just having them there doesn't guarantee that.  The instructions have changed for iPhoto 11 and Snow Leopard or later:
Restoring iPhoto 9 (11) Themes
First look in your HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there move it to the Trash. Also look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder.  If there is one move it to the Trash.  Reinstall iPhoto as described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 -files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
3 - mount the disk that iPhoto 11 came on, either an iLife 11 disc or the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
If iPhoto 11 came with the computer then double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install.
Apply all of the latest iPhoto 9 (11) updates followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.

Uh, perhaps you should learn to read what was actually written.
What did I tell anyone to do/not do?
    What was my "opinion"?
I wrote, "However, note that iPhoto is going away, soon to be replaced soon by the new Photos app".
the facts are that Apple has stated that iPhoto can continue to be used and that you can seamlessly migrate form iPhoto to photos
I never suggested, hinted or stated otherwise...
Are you stating that Apple is going to continue on with iPhoto & it is NOT going to be replaced by the Photos app?
and how does all this help the OP?

  • Can not open and install iphoto! What`s the problem?

Can not open and install iphoto! What`s the problem?

The problem is, apparently, that you can neither open nor install iPhoto.
Seriously, you give us nothing to work with.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How do I "install" iPhoto themes?

I downloaded iPhoto '11 from the App Store, now my themes can't be located when I attempt to create a book. I can see the themes in my Library folder - Application Support - iPhoto - Themes, there are about 343 theme folders in there, so how can I "install" them? How can I get iPhoto to find them? I see a number of people have had this issue, but as I downloaded the App rather than installed it from a disk, I don't have the option of re-installing it. Would be grateful for any suggestions or advice.
    Thanks

How odd? Those links bring us right back to here...
    Reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

If you need several copies of Acrobat (the license is per user), then you should talk to Adobe Sales about a volume purchase. I am not sure of the details, but probably the best way to go. In that case, I think all are on the same S/N and you pay according to the number of activations or such. Again, I am not sure and you need to talk to Adobe. Adobe is currently pushing the cloud and subscription versions and you might want to discuss the various options with them.

  • Had a HD crash.  Purchased and installed iPhoto 11 prior to crash.  System discs overwrote 11 and need to know how to re-installniPhoto 11

Not quite a year ago I upgraded to iPhoto 11.  When my HD crashed, the original system discs overwrote the newer version of iPhoto and since the newer version had changed my photo information the older version does not recognize my photos.  Of course, when I go to the App Store, it says iPhoto is installed and I cannot download it again.  iPhoto only exists in the old version 7.1.5.  What should I do?

  • I bought a used macbook air (newest model) with lion and when I try and install iPhoto it says "These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID. These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases "

I am a new mac user so there is a lot that I don't yet know or understand.  The previous owner did a clean re-install of lion and my air is covered under warranty till August.  We called apple when I bought it to make sure it wasn't stolen and registered it to me. I am just trying to be able to transfer my pictures from my iphone to my air.  I also want to set up icloud which looks like it requires iphoto. Also, what are the other iLife apps?  I have a feeling I will encounter the same issues with those. Thanks for your help.

If new versions of iPhoto and the other iLife applications (iMovie and GarageBand) were purchased by the previous owner from the Mac App Store, then they will be locked to the previous owner's Apple ID and cannot be transferred to you. You will have to re-purchase them under your own Apple ID.
If this is an older MBA that came with Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Mac OS X, though, the system would have come with an installation disk that included the iLife applications, a disk which the seller should have provided to you. Those iLife applications would be older versions, of course, and may or may not work in Lion depending on how old they are.

  • Help with managing RAW and jpeg images and installing iphoto 9

Greetings: Fist, let me make the neophyte apology and plea - I'm sorry, I should have come here first; I didn't and now I need your help.
I have just purchased a macbook pro (still in its box) with updated software for my older imac os x. I have a number of Canon related photo editing programs (that came with my 40D digital SLR) and Adobe photo elements 6 for mac on the imac. Following some erroneous advice I have made a complete mess of the pictures folder's content by trying to delete images directly from that folder (there are now 6000+ images in the folder, many of which are duplicates(?). Most of the images are not tagged or labeled and some have been organized in/by iphoto (I corrupted the iphoto's library structure very early on by disrupting and editing its images - which might explain why iphoto had a difficult time 'finding' and displaying some of my photos). The picture folder now holds jpegs, smallRAW images (a Canon 40D photo format) and various duplicates of the orignal images - (some of the duplicates don't display as images, but as jpeg logos, which, when opened contain duplicate image or are completely black) The first time I downloaded RAW images into iphoto 6 the RAW data displayed as a black image. When shooting in smallRAW on the Canon 40D, the camera produces a jpeg image for 'easy viewing and editing in the camera' but it looks as though iphoto 6 made duplicates of the jpeg and the RAW data and stored them in different locals in the picture file. In an attempt to get the number of images down, I have been trying to delete them from the picture folder. (My daughters both download images rather indiscriminately in hopes of 'editing them on the computer' which inevitably does not happen) and there is a lot of experimental bracketing of images - shooting raw and different Camera formats etc., all of which need to be cleaned up before I proceed.
Sometime in the not-too-distant future I would like to have iphoto 9 running on my imac with a clean library of images and a seamless way of downloading, editing and storing images (including the RAW data).
The macbook pro is for my highschool-aged daughter, who will run iphoto 9 but not have any RAW image data on her system. She would like to copy some of the old iMac's images to put into her own iPhoto 9 library (probably using a disk, email or on-line photo service - ideally, I would like to be able to copy and remove a number of those images from my HD and give them to her for the macbook)
A few questions and queries: Can I 'dis-able' iphoto 6, while I delete images (RAW and jpeg) from the picture file? (and is this even a good idea).
Once I have edited the # of images down to a reasonable size, should I re-launch iphoto 6, rebuild the iphoto library and then update to iphoto 9 or skip v6 and rebuild with v9?
And now for the 'how stupid is this guy question' - I really had planned to purchase an external backup; but between new the macbook, car repairs and braces it has never come to fruition. So, I have never properly backed up my images. What is the bare-bones, least expensive method for me to do this? I'd even consider burning everything to disks if that works. I can't afford the $ to purchase a new external hard drive right now (really). Budget is set aside mid-November for one though.
I've been looking through some other discussion boards and it looks like I'm not the only one having RAW image issues. I know that shooting smallRAW with the companion jpeg is probably not helping things but I take my camera equipment on extended canoe trips - and we like the ease of on-the-spot editing with this format.
Thanks in advance for your help - Mark

Terence, Is the picture folder the primary source for the images or does that data reside somewhere else?
If you gathered them there, then yes.
I really don't want to have to go through 14,000 images looking for the pictures that I want to keep (or is that my only option?).
Only you can decide what you want to keep.
Why does the computer keep making copies of the images and filing them under date and events?
That's how iPhoto works. It's not a problem usually, only you did go in there and make a problem, and now we are trying to fix it.
You advise not to muck around in the picture file via preview,
No I don't. I advise not to much around in the iPhoto Library Folder.
but if I download images through a program other than iPhotos - image capture or adobe aren't I doing that anyway?
Adobe what? Adobe is a software manufacturer who make many excellent applications, you need to be more precise. And no, if you import photos with Image Capture or “adobe” no you are not interfering with the iPhoto Library Folder.
Can you edit a base image file somewhere and remove it from the HD without iphoto making a copy of it and storing it somewhere else?
This is stunningly easy. Don't use iPhoto. Use an image editor.
I want to look the negatives, decide which ones I want and throw the rest away. Can that be done or am I way off course?
Yes, and iPhoto (or similar apps) make this really easy.
Hook up your camera. Import the pics to iPhoto. Go through the imported pics. Trash the ones you don't want. Then process the ones you do. But you must learn how to use iPhoto to do this successfully
To trash: put the pic in the iPhoto trash and empty it. This removes the file from iPhoto and the Hard Disk.
Process it: If you want to use another editor: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Unable to update and install iPhoto, numbers and keynote

    Hi,
I am not sure whether anyone has similar problem but I do hope someone can help me with this issue that I am facing.
I have just purchased the iMac a few days before Maverick release. So now I have updated it to Mavericks for my iMac.
    After the update to Maverick.
I am updating all the necessary apps like iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband and iWork stuff and have encountered this problem.
No matter how many times I click updates (have been trying for the past 2-3 days too) for iPhoto, Numbers and Keynote , these apps just failed to update. it is just shown " an error has occured" under the purchases category. Also under the Purchases, my iPhoto app icon is "?" (while the grey button instead of "update" it show "pause" .
Please let me know if anyone has any answer to this issue.
Also, I have a question. Why does my Numbers and Keynote, I can install but PAGES I need to pay ? Does anyone has the problem too?
Hopefully someone can help me solve this problem! Thank you!!

You can manually flash another country's firmware however to answer your question - Before generic handsets get the update the networks have to all authorise the update, I'm not saying they have to release the update but they do have to authorise it - Then Sony will be authorised to release it to generic devices - So if your device is network locked then it's your network that needs to release the update via Sony

  • JDeveloper - obtaining and installing ADF extensions

Just got back from an Oracle ADF course to find that the copy of Jdeveloper (10.3.3.0) used on the course has more extensions installed by default than the version on the web site. (all the cool ADF stuff we were using on the course!)
I can't find these extensions available on the "check for updates" option on JDeveloper, and the guides on using ADF with JDeveloper on the oracle site are over 3 years old.
I don't particularly want to rely on a copy of JDeveloper I got from a CD on a training course... I should be able to install the same setup from oracle downloads.

  • How do I obtain and/or interpret __interval & _collInterval?

I have a use case where I need to upload event log entry metrics that have occurred during the interval collection period. I have tried to use two properties collInterval and _interval to achieve this and am not having any success with either.
Using the __interval I have put it into a compute_expr like this:
    <ColumnDescriptor NAME="Interval" TYPE="NUMBER" IS_KEY="FALSE" COMPUTE_EXPR="__interval">
    <Display>
    <Label NLSID="Interval">Interval</Label>
    </Display>
    </ColumnDescriptor>
In this metric my collection interval is defined as 10 minutes. However, in the metric display (all metrics...) the __interval property is showing incrementing values like this: 2250093, 2251290, 2251505, .....
Are these values a times tamp of some kind? How do I interpret them?
With the _collInterval I have used it as a SYSTEMGLOBAL property (yet not sure how this would be a SYSTEMGLOBAL property since the interval would be specific to my instance/metric, I thought the SYSTEMGLOBAL properties came from emd.properties...) as I have seen in another example. Then passed it into my fetchlet, in that case I get a value of 0.
Example of using the _collInterval property:

  • Can't use Calendars, Cards and Books- lost themes?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum but I think this is more a problem with how I installed it rather than anything related to the actual products.
Whenever I click on calendars already created, or on new calendar it keeps telling me that there are no themes installed and that this function won't work until they are- I think this might be because rather than installing the whole iLife 08 suite- (I didn't want the new iMovie) I simply dragged the previous installation I'd done on another mac (I bought a family pack) on to my iBook.
So does anyone know where I'd find the themes or where to install them?

    Sri, Theo:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
simply dragged the previous installation I'd done on another mac (I bought a family pack) on to my iBook.
Installing iPhoto that way didn't install all of the necessary support documents, including the themes. Delete the iPhoto application and install iPhoto, custom install to install only iPhoto, from the iLife 08 disk. Then run the iPhoto 7.1.1 and iLife Support 8.1.1 updaters. That will get you the themes back.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
