Obtaining Host Server Name

How can I obtain the host name of the server the Flex
application/SWF is running under?

You can get the URL from the application.application.url
property, then parse the host name.

    Hi,
Have you imported the latest Hyper-V management pack? If not, please try it.

  • Hiding the Port in a Virtual Host/Server-name Alias

I need some guidance/help with the HTTP Server in AS 10g. We have several new Portal sites with a mix of forms, reports, and pl/sql server pages. We wish to make these services available from the internet via an aliased hole in the firewall.
We have our public alias of Alias.CompanyWebsite.com mapped to the server-name, but we'd like to get the alias mapped to servername:port. I've tried to get this set up using virtual hosts in the HTTP server, but I'm having no luck. I'm also having trouble finding documentation on how to this.
Is there a way to hide the server-name and port number via a virtual host (alias) in HTTP Server and/or Web Cache? If so, how do you accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Usually it is like this:
    outside name: www.acme.com
    oudside port: 80
    inside name: inside.acme.local
inside port: 7778 (if you have a seperate machine for the middle tier)
In the Webcache you'll need a site
    www.acme.com with port 80
    and an origin server
    inside.acme.local with port 7778
    Then create a site-to-server mapping from www.acme.com to inside.acme.local
If your firewall listens to another name or does something with the ports you need to change the site accordingly.

  • Host server name issue

I have installed Weblogic 7.0 on Windows 2000
    server name = mb_sarah1
    server ip = 192.168.27.35
    application name = sarah
In a Servlet, I try to get an Object (that I've put earlier) in the
    Session
When I use the url http://192.168.27.35:7001/sarah, all is good
When I use the url http://mb_sarah1:7001/sarah, the Object that I get
    is null
I've changed nothing expect the url for accessing the Web Application
in the Adress Field of my Web Browser
    Thanks.

DNS lookup is configured as outlined in the previous reply. But, looking at your /etc/hosts file:
    10.103.10.125 ; oen11g.grid.com oen11g I would remove the semicolon.
Btw, the hosts file is also somewhat different in Linux since it puts the name of the server at the same line of localhost.
The Oracle installer expects it there.. e.g.: 127.0.0.1 gird.example.com grid localhost.localdomain localhost
You can use e.g. export  ORACLE_HOSTNAME=grid.example.com to work-around the issue.

  • Host/server name and port

    Hi,
is there like session/repository variable that holds the server/host name and port? i would like to get these values programmatically.
    thanks.

In my humble opinion do not see any use in setting up these details on variables. The fact that these could be used only after logging on, which will obviously need these details manually. If you require it for tracking purpose, You could do it manually, as they are going to be static at least for that session.

  • Email shows my host server name not my email address?

Golive user, using ProcessForm3 from mindpalette. Need to know what line to add/ an email so my server address won't show up in the recipients "from" box when they receive the contact/web submission form I have added to my clients websites. If someone is interested in helping me, I will attach source code for you to review.
Also, need to know where to add additional attachment size code to my php.ini file.
Thank you for your help in advance.

I'm not familiar with the mindpalette script but somewhere in there should be a variable you might set. Search it for 'send' or 'sender'.
There are a few places in PHP.ini to set attachment size as such an operation may affect both the size of the attachment and the RAM needed to process it. PHP.ini should be commented as well for this. You may wish to contact your web host for assistance as they might limit resources to you that will override what you set in php.ini.

  • Two Server names showing up....

Just upgraded to 10.5 as a stanard server. When we browse the network from our Mac Pro's we see two computer names as the server. We see "prepress" and "prepress.domain.com" Why? We never saw "prepress.doamin.com" w/ 10.4. Also when we boot up our PC Windows RIP computer we get the message that there is a duplicate computer name on the network.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
I wonder why you are wondering why? Surely only you or whoever installed the server would know why you see two names? When selecting Standard as the Server Mode after the initial install the Server Setup Assistant begins to assist you in setting up and configuring the server based on answers you give it to the questions its asking. Part of this question and answer process is to do with defining the internal DNS Service (as well as other Services) the Server is going to use for itself. It may not have seemed like it at the time but that was what was happening. There would have been a question regarding domain name as well as host/server name. Someone at your site must have keyed in domain.com and prepress without fully realizing the significance.
You are not entirely to blame for inflicting this on yourself. Apple should have made the documentation clearer as well as reigning in the marketing department a little bit.
There are three 'modes' available with Leopard Server: Standard, Workgroup and Advanced.
I assume many people think Standard = Simple and choose that thinking all they want are simple file services, perhaps a bit of Mail and that will do - thank you. You get that but you get DNS thrown in whether you like it or not because without it those other simple things won't work. Workgroup assumes the existence of an internal DNS Service already on the network provided by another Server. This 'mode' is actually quite good in assisting integration into an AD server based environment. The last 'mode' is Advanced. Most people shy away from this thinking that this 'mode' is far too complex and advanced for them. Wrong.
In my opinion Advanced is the easiest as nothing gets configured, apart from a domain, hostname and IP address at the beginning of the installation process. Afterwards It will sit there until you configure and enable a Service. In this mode if all you want is AFP and a few shares that's all you'll get. In Advanced you get to use Server Admin and Workgroup Manager. The 'new' application available for OSX Server - Server Preferences - won't work in Advanced. Its an application specifically designed to work in the other two modes.
As for the PC Problem? Verify first that it does not have the same IP address as your Server. Your Server should have a fixed IP address anyway - apologies if you know this. Right click on My Computer, select Properties and in there you should see the name the PC has been assigned. Change it if its been named the same.

I would say that, since the OP has so little info, there are no policies in use.  It there were then this question would never be asked the way it is being asked.
I had a client call with a letter from their insurance company; an accountant with malpractice insurance.  THey asked the same question inmuch the same way.  "What computer can you users access?"  The question should be more like
"Do you have a policy that restricts access to computers and do you audit for compliance?"
I have had other clients whose insurance asked the question in that way.  It produces a better view of what should be happening and how to show compliance.
I recommend that companies being asked these questions by their legal departments or insurance companies should contract with a god computer security consultant to assist with answering these very tricky questions.  Of course if it is just you boss's
curiosity  then you may need to discuss his requirements with him in more depth.

  • Domain name/"primary DNS" name/mail host name/mail server name/mx name

    Hi,
I have registered my domain name (N.com) with an external dns server and created an MX record (mail.N.com) for it as well. My server sits behind a router and internet traffic is port(80)-forwarded to my server's fixed internal ip address (I can access my webpages from the internet just fine). When I initially setup the server I was asked to give it a "primary DNS name." I naturally assumed that N.com was supposed to be entered here, but that just caused all kinds of problems (though I still do not understand why). So I reinstalled and currently have server.N.com as the primary DNS name of the server (although it shows up in Server Admin and Workgroup Manager as server.local--why is that?)
I have had no luck getting any email from the internet with the default settings in mail services (domain name of N.com and host name of server.N.com). Having no luck with the defaults, I assumed that maybe I needed to change the host name to "mail.N.com" so that it matched the MX record. I also changed the user preferences in Workgroup Manager to receive mail from mail.N.com--but still no luck. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how come none of the Mail Service literature mentions anything about what a mail "host name" is supposed to be? Is it supposed to be the same as the "Mail Server" name that Workgroup Manager asks each user for? and is it the same as the MX record name?
I am just needing some help to connect all these variously named, but undefined, dots.
Also, how come I can access webmail from the internet using www.N.com/webmail but can't do it from any computers within my physical network (I have to use IPaddress/webmail or server.local/webmail)?
Also, should my user email addresses be [email protected] or [email protected] (which is the current default)?
Thanks in advance and good luck!
    John

I had been told by a friend that ... regular email coming in from the internet would go through port 80
    Unfortunately you were misinformed.
My MX record needs the extra subname (such as "mail") in front of the domain name, right?
Not at all. A MX record for 'N.com' is entirely valid (expected, in fact).
An MX record tells remote mail servers where to send mail for any domain/subdomain. If you think about it, let's say you worked for Apple and you wanted people to be able to send email to [email protected], well then you need an MX record for 'apple.com'.
You can see if you dig MX apple.com that they actually have 9 MX records, but the point still stands.
Now, you might also have MX records for subdomains so that you can have [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. Each of these subdomains would need a separate MX record.
So, in general, for any set of email addresses @[anything.]domain.com you have a MX record telling remote mail servers where to send that mail.
Of course the MX record name is mail.N.com, but I think you are implying that the in the Mail settings of Server Admin where it asks for domain name all I need to put there is the N.com, right?
What I mean is that you need to set the domain name to whatever domain name you expect to receive mail at.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected], then you enter 'N.com'.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected] then you enter 'mail.N.com'.
If you want both forms, enter one in the main domain and add the other(s) in the Advanced -> Hosting -> Local Host Aliases section.
Is there anything in the Mail settings that needs to have the full MX record name (mail.N.com)?
Yes. Either the 'domain name' or the 'Local Host Aliases' needs to contain the same thing as your MX record. That's because the MX record tells remote servers to send mail to this machine, but the machine won't accept the mail unless it is configured to do so.
What is the "host name" supposed to be?
This should be the name that remote servers see when this machine tries to send outgoing mail.
Ideally this should match the reverse DNS of your IP address, that way when it connects to a remote server it says "Hi, I'm $hostname" and the remote server can lookup the machine's IP address and see the same result. This will reduce the problem of remote servers thinking you're sending them spam.
If you only have a single IP address then this probably needs to be something like 'N.com'. If you don't have control over your reverse DNS then you're going to run into a problem.
Also in the user accounts (in Workgroup Manager) what should the "mail server name" be? Is it the host name or the domain name?
    Off hand, I don't know.
Also, why are all the default user email addresses [email protected] (the name I gave the server at setup)? Why doesn't the user accounts create [email protected] as the default address?
Presumably because the mail server says it is 'server.N.com' and therefore any accounts on that machine would be [email protected]. Changing the domain name (as above) should fix that.

  • A very simple question: how to obtain the mail server name?

In our JSP application, at one point an email will be sent to notify one event. Currently, that is done by using the html tag: mailto. To have more control on the email in tems of context format (a bad layout right now) and others. I would like to have it processed at servlet by using the JavaMail API, so that it have a nice format and have the sender's email address right in case email client is not installed in the machine where the browser in. The JavaMail API is straight forward. The question is how to obtain the mail server name, and the sender's email address if there is one?
    Thanks.
    v.

How to obtain the mail server's name? It's your server, you should know its name. Or if it isn't your server, you should ask the administrator for its name. Point is, you need to decide in advance what server you are going to use and hard-code its name into the program or into a properties file.
And how to obtain the client's e-mail address? You have to ask the client, probably by putting a box in the HTML and asking them to type it.

  • Host name (server name)

Who can tell me what the host name (server name) is that I need to use when I add my Apple e-mail address on my iPhone?
I already have a hotmail.com address on my iPhone. So I wanted to add my Apple [email protected] e-mail address.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Even I faced same issue and able to discover it. One of the reasons for Axis "faultString: (400)No Host matches server name localhost" is due to invalid/wrong TargetEndpointAddress. Please check the TargetEndpointAddress URL in call.setTargetEndpointAddress( endpointURL ), endpointURL should be your service published path (.wsdl file).
    Cheers!

  • Obtain server name in portal service

    Hi all,
I've a portal service which must know the server name (https://xxx.yyy.com). In an AbstractPortalComponent I have no problem to get the name through the IPortalComponentRequest. But how to obtain it in a portal service which doesn't have such an object?
    best regards,
    Markus

thanks, serlank, but that doesn't work in my environment (Tomcat 5.5.12).
The method event.getServletContext().getServletContextName() returns the Name of the web application which i can configure as <display-name> in web.xml. As i have the same web.xml for all my contexts, i can't set different names.

  • Add the Hosting Server IP in Domain Name Server of Microsoft

    Hi,
I have purchased a domain (techwhiz.info) and web hosting from
www.net4.in but the email is taken from Microsoft exchange for the same domain so the Domain Name Server is with Microsoft. Now I want to host the site for the same domain and as
www.net4.in hosting provider told to do a entry of Hosting Server IP in DNS then only the website will show the contents. As I don't know how to do this entry so please tell me the steps to do that.
If required anything more please let me know.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Pratik Purohit

I'm having a little trouble with your english, but I think you're trying to do 3 things:
Host email on an Exchange server
    host a website with net4.in
setup DNS so that these things work together
It also sounds like Microsoft is hosting your DNS?  If so, you'd simply create an MX DNS record to point to your Exchange 2010 server, and another DNS record for www.techwiz.info.
You may wish to call the hosting provider(s) of these services for more specific guidance.  Your question is pretty broad.
