OC'ing MSI fx5900sp VTD-256

I bought the MSI fx5900sp VTD-256 thinking that it was 400mhz core / 800mhz mem. After running 3DMark03, I find out that it was running @ 300/700. So I enabled coolbits and oc'd the card. The highest I got (performance 3D) was 423/814. Anyone else have this card? Is this the highest that this card is capable of?

I don't use the MSI drivers and I just use the coolbit's registry hack.
I let the driver interface Auto Detect the clock settings first, then run a benchmark and watch for anomolies in image quality. I will then tweak down the settings until I find stability. I often run a game for a while to see REAL WORLD perfomance, and adjust accordingly. Personally I don't overclock since with the last few cards I've owned I see no reason to yet, I just do it initially to see what the cards potential is. I do not remember my last settings for previous cards as I know that every GPU, RAM setup will deliver varied results from one card to the next even theough they are identical, also keep in mind the configurations available with all the hardware available.

  • MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 System freeze in fullscreen 3D games

    Greetings everyone
I changed from a MSI GF4 Ti4200 to a MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 about two months ago and since then I have the following problem:
During any 3D game I have tested so far (which are a very few, I admit... too little time available) and after about 10 secs to 10 minutes of the game running in fullscreen, the system freezes completely (no mouse movement, no alt-tab, no soft reset) while the sound goes on looping. Games I have tested include UT2003, Star Wars Racer, Syberia. System also freezes during any version of 3DMark.
Strangely enough, I never had a problem with UT. No problem also with any game in windowed mode (where available), for instance played UT2003 in windowed mode for about an hour, then switched to fullscreen, then system freeze after about one minute. Furthermore, no prob in any 3D app (3DS, ...) or while developing 3D (OpenGL).
I have tried each and every available VGA driver, either from MSI or straight from nVidia. No change at all except with the 52.16 drivers using which the system still freezes but does not remain frozen, instead, after about two minutes a BSOD comes up announcing that...
"A problem has been detected ...
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp.
If this is the first time ...
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates
problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the
    hardware incorrectly.
Please check with your hardware device vendor for ...
    Technical information:
    *** STOP: 0x000000EA (0xFF0B5020, 0xFF6CB810, 0xFF597198, 0x00000001)
    nv4_disp"
Same behaviour with the card severely underclocked through the MSI Timings control panel tab.
    Other things I have done:
    - Changed aperture size to various values: No change
    - Reinstalled nForce2 drivers: No change
    - Uninstalled and cleaned (Driver Cleaner) sound drivers, disabled SB: No change
    - Disabled onboard audio and LAN: No change
    - Tried all possible device driver setting for AA, filtering, rez, others: No change
    - Checked memory (memtest86+): No errors
Another issue with the card that might be of use mentioning here is that the 3D!Turbo Experience app does not display Temperature, Voltage and Frequency: The respective displays are dimmed and controls are grayed.
Thanx in advance for ANY help / suggestions / similar experiences
    Jorge

    Greetings my good mates.
GlennVidia, a great and professional post about parametric differences! Finalreminder thanx a great lot for the versions and info! It seems that 3D!Turbo Experience does not work with 5950U eventhough it bundles with it. On my mobo the "Version 1" tag is under the VGA so this is probable why you can't see it (needless to say that I am not suggesting that I want you to remove your VGA just to give me this not-so-important info ).
    Here's what happened last night.
I finally decided that I could no longer avoid what I've been avoiding since the very beginning, that is, mess with my other desktop, a Linux box with a Shuttle AK32 mobo, an Athlon XP 1800+, 256 of noname DDR and various other stuff. Another reason I didn't transfer the card to the AK32 mobo at the first instant is that I had always considered the AK32 an inappropriate testbed for the 5950. However, I felt I was in desperate need to check the 5950 on another mobo. So I set up the system above with very conservative bios settings and crap memory timing, the 5950, the Heroichi 450w psu, neither chassis nor chipset fan, and then installed WinXP Pro, SP1, DX9.0b, Hyperion 14.45 and MSI VGA 56.63.
The 5950 was running at AGP 4x, CPU at 50-52C idle, system 27C idle, voltages a little low (for instance, 11.75 for the 12+), however:
    - 3DMark 2003 completes at first run (first time I was able to see the entire test).
    - 3DMark 2001 completes at first run.
    - UT2003 does not freeze no matter how long it runs (and I am talking extreme settings for AA, details, resolution, etc).
    - Both 3DMarks keep running countless times or in loop mode without freezing.
I understand that the AGP 4x makes a huge difference on the communication between the mobo and the VGA. However, I doubt that the problem will go away on the K7N2 if I set it to AGP 4x (which I am not willing to do anyway). There are yet many tests to be done (new K7N2 bios, etc), however this is the first optimistic result I have got since three weeks now and I am quite happy about it. I might be wrong, but now I am almost 100% certain that the 5950 is not faulty.
Furthermore: On a K7N2, Finalreminder had the exact same problem as me with 3DMark 2003, that is, freezing during CPU tests (mine would also always freeze during the CPU tests and nowhere else). I think this rules out the chance of a HW fault on my mobo only.
Another pattern I have isolated is that better cooling has solved most (if not all) of Finalreminer's problems and quite a few of mine (at the beginning, 3DMark 2001 would freeze during the first run and UT2003 after a few minutes), and this too is common in both cases, Finalreminder's and mine. However, in my case, the freezing is still there even in extremely low temperature cases. To rule out the chance that temperatures go high during fullscreen 3D, I used Motherboard Monitor to log temps and voltages. Right now the log file is on a non-attached disk so I can't upload it and give you the url (I'll do that), but I can tell you that the temps and voltages are great during an entire 3DMark that ended-up freezing: CPU goes to max 58C, system to max 37C.
I think that the only hypothesis that may still stand is that MSI K7N2 Delta and MSI 5950U VTD-256 is, sometimes, a bad combination, no matter how ridiculous this may sound.
By no means am I suggesting that this is MSI's fault! As GlennVidia has explained in his latest great post about parametric differences and as my basic knowledge of electronics enables me to understand (I am a radio amateur), these are things that happen and cannot be predicted. I trust MSI and will keep trusting it.
To solve my issue, after some more testing, I am most probably going for a new mobo. I am open to suggestions and wondering if it would be a good idea to start a new thread about WORKING combinations of MSI 5950U-VTD256 and various mobos. This forum has been far too helpful for me to go out and buy something without getting feedback first .

  • Black Screen after computer boots to Win XP With NX6600 VTD 256

My son recently purchased a new computer and gave his old one to me to salvage what I wanted.Since he just a few months ago purchased my NX6600 VTD 256 from me I naturally salvaged that first. I tried to install the NX6600 in my other son's computer without success. First the particulars:
MSI 845 Pro2 Mobo, 512 mb 133 Mhz Ram, 1.7 Ghz Intel CPU, Aopen AO350 12A PNF power supply, 350 watts with 18 amps on the 12 volt rail.
I did a fresh install of winXP on a freshly formatted HDD. Installed service pack 2, the latest intel drivers, and 5 different versions of the driver packages including ver 77.77 all with the same results.
After the computer boots I am intermittantly faced with a black screen after the WinXP logo disappears. This sometimes happens 3 times in a row before I get a working screen. After a good boot the NX6600 benchmarks good with very good marks!
I am at this point strongly suspecting the power supply is not up to the task, even though the specs for the NX6600 recommend a 350 watt power supply.  Before I start removing all the hardware from the computer except for the NX 6600 to see if I have a hardware conflict, I doubt this because with the NX6600 installed without drivers I get a good boot every time.
    I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks for the reply boss killer.
I tried what you suggested with a CRS power supply 300 watts with 15 amps on the 12 volt rail.
    with the exact same results.
I then put the crs powersupply back into #1 son's old case reinstalled the nx6600 and gave it a go
Particulars for the old computer ECS K7VTA3 ver. 1 Mobo with 512 Mb DDR, nx6600VTD256 vid card and the CRS Power supply 300 watts with 15 amps on the 12 volt rail , and win XP pro service pack 2.
Funny the card works great without any problems with this setup! And the powersupply is 50 watts less and only 15 amps as compared to the other with 18!
I then pulled all the hardware out of #2's computer and tried it with only the memory, cpu, and NX6600 connected.
I had to boot 5 times before I had a working screen.
Now I'm thinking that there is somthing amiss with the NX6600 and the MSI 845 Pro2 ???
I'm thinking that I would be better off installing the K7VTA3 in #2 son's computer with the NX6600, since this works fine. When I did a benchmark with this setup it outperformed the *45 Pro 2 NX6600 combination By 300 points 2600 as compared to 2300 aqua mark points.
    Isn't this fun?

  • I sent my NX6600 VTD 256 in for replacement LAST SEPTEMBER!!!!!!

After trying all options in trying to get my "Under Warranty" NX6600 VTD 256 to function properly in 2 computers with the same disappointing results. And on the advice the MSI Service Netherland I sent my card back to Uni Technologies of Katwijk ZH, Netherland.
I was informed at the time that it would take 6 to 8 weeks before I had a replacement because the card had to be shipped back to asia! I thought this odd and an awful lot of trouble to go through for a 100 euro retail video card! BTW this was back in early September. It is getting on 5 months now and I still have not received anything! I telephoned UniTechnologies and spoke to the owner Reginald. I was informed  by him that he telephoned MSI Netherland and would have an answer shortly! I teleponed UniT... three times over the last week and am now informed by Reginald that he is too busy to assist me further! To tell the truth I am Pissed to the MAX!
As a long time user of MSI products I am not accustomed to this sort of treatment from MSI or its dealers!!!!
My question is this:  Where do I turn to now to receive the replacement promised?
My original thread with particulars can be found here  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=110010.0;topicseen

    mdybus,
I would contact MSI Netherlands directly and let them know the details of what has happened, lets see if they cannot find your Vid Card for you or at least contac tthe dealer to find out what he is doing.
    Take Care,
    Richard
P.S. The RMA Dept. in the Netherlands is excellent.

  • Msi Nx6800le-td 256 PCI-E

Is that MSI NX6800LE-TD 256 same as NX6800LE 128 with douple amount of memory or is there some new improvements ? allthough i cant find any 6800LE product´s from the msi product catergory. This is an PCI-E card.
Just seeking for good/cheap PCI-E card for my next pc system and my local pc store sells this card for 260€. Cheap if i may say and if this card is fully moddable to open those locke VS and pipelines like Gainward 6800LE 128 then it rocks
And for the future to improve graphic acceleration its easy way just to buy another msi 6800le card and put it in to sli mode and its then cheaper

    nobody cares me

  • MSI Geforce 7800GTX 256 No signal

    I have MSI P4N SLI + MSI Geforce 7800GTX 256 , 2 GB ram (4*512 MB) 667, 3.4GHZ 1m cash
When booting, the monitor screen stay black ,, & my screen shows no signal till the widows xp works
i mean i can't see any booting information or even windows xp logo
but it works very well when windows booted & has no problems when i play games
how i can solve this problem ,, thank you for your help

Maybe you could have a try to clear cmos and load defaults in the bios. Please check you disable quick boot in the bios and enable full logo screen to have a try. And you could also have a try to uninstall the mainboard's drivers and the VGA drvers, then reinstall them to check. If that could not help, maybe you could have a try to reinstall the OS to have a try.
You may check when you minimize the system ( only leave cpu, cpu fan, memory,VGA on the mainboard) to see whether the monitor still remain black all the time.

  • No display on MSI RX800 td 256

    Hi group
I posted this problem a few months ago but still hasnt been sorted so I am appealing again for help!
I have an MSI RX800 TD-256 and I cannot get a display after the standard Windows XP startup screen.
I can see the BIOS ok although I do not get the usual graphic card BIOS which I would normally expect to see.
After the BIOS goes I get the WinXP startup but then after that the display goes black. The PC continues to load and the monitor light remains on indicating that it is still receiving a signal but the the desktop will not display.
I have disconnect everything and had only my mainboard. RAM, PSU and of course graphics card connected but couldn`t even see the VGA BIOS.
The power cable that the card came with is attached to the PSU as per instructions and still nothing.
Re attached the HDD and attached the other end of the power cable to that aswell and same problem.
I have returned the card back to Scan.co.uk and they said that the card is working fine so they sent it back to me.
    Any ideas would be grateful.
Please refer to my signature for my spec. Any questions please let me know.
    Many thanks
    Orion.

    Thanks for the reply,
I haven`t tried it on another PC yet as I don`t know anyone who has a decent PSU! MSI recomend a 350W min to run the card, mine is 450W.
There is no on board graphics.

    Thanks a lot friends.
Every thread i created was about FX5700 because i own this card and thought that i made a wrong decision with that card -MSI FX5700 TD128- now i know it was a good buy.
Only 1 question left: why is the fill rate of FX5700 so poor and at G4TiSeries so high-2x much, does it have affect in compare to G4TiSeries?

  • MSI - FX5900SP-VTD128 - Need bios

Anyone got a MSI - FX5900SP-VTD128 with the original bios? I really need it...
    Thanks

There are no up-to-date Performance BIOS Versions available for your mainboard.  If Performance BIOS Versions ever existed, they were released in the early BIOS Development Phase for testing purposes.  To be honest, I have not come across any Performance BIOS for your board yet and it is also highly questionable if such a BIOS would help you in any way (if it existed).  Whatever problem there is (or not is) does not necessarely have much to do with the BIOS you use.
If you need help and advice on overclocking, please open your own topic in the OC Section of this forum, provide FULL system specifications (read the >>Posting Guide<< first) and post a list of your current Cell Menu settings for comparison.

  • Does MSI FX5900SP VTD256 like ASUS A7S333?

I just got my new MSI GeForceFX5900SP VTD256.
After uninstalling my previous board and configuring my new card, my computer froze with a blank white screen.
After variuos unsuccessfull setups from at my BIOS, I decided to format and reinstall my Windows2000 with SP3.
As soon as I install my video drivers, the problem comes back.
Fooling around with my BIOS setup (AGP apperture size and stuff) and my card memory, 2D and 3D frequences, I could put my system to work ok for a longer time. But it freezes at the and anyway.
I found that my cards conf was unable to detect my AGP slot speed and capabilities (mine is 4X). And it detected it as "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I then updated my mobo BIOS and installed a new VGA driver from ASUS. Now my fx5900 can detect my AGP speed and now it displays "AGP" instead of "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I thought that would work but it still freezes after a moment. I unplugged all my periferals, leaving only my HD, CDRW and video card on fearing that it could be something with power force.
If I use only regular apps, like browsing the internet and stuff, my comp works for about 10 min before freezing. But if I run 3Dmark 2000, it crashes right in the 1st, 2nd test.
Any IDEAS what is going on? Is it overheating (the cooler runs ok and the temperature when I check is cool)? Is my card malfunctioning?
    Here's my systems config:
    Athlon XP1700+
    512MB DDR
    HD 40GB seagate 7200RPM
Mobo ASUS A7S333 - bios as331600 and most recent drivers
MSI GeForce fx5900SP VTD256 with most recent drivers
Config on BIOS set to -
    AGP Aperture size = 256MB
    Agp "Speed" = 4X
Video card = AGP VGA Card
    Supprt for PCI2.1 = enabled
    Fast writes = Enabled

What is a PSU? Power Supply Unit.
If it is, I will check it tonight and I will post it here.
Do you really think this is a power related problem?
I have already unppluged everything, leaving only my video card and HD turned on, eacho in its own power cord.
Thx in advance. I hope I can get this to work. My games are staring at me...
P.S. I'm thinking in buying ASUS A7V8X-X. Do u think this board will present no prblem with my new card?

Hello, thanks for answer. I can tell you that my monitor is a ViewSonic E771 and there is no driver for Windows 2k in the Homepage of ViewSonic because Windows 2k auto detect it.
In the monitor tab of "Advanced options in the Display panel" it says: "Monitor tipe: ViewSonic E771". I don't trust in microsoft drivers very much, but in this case I have no choise, there isn't another driver for this monitor in the world! but what I can do is to try with another monitor to see if it work, then I tell u.
The extrange thing is that before with my GeForce 2 MX 400 I had the same computer, same windows, same monitor and same TV and everything was OK.
I'm already loosing hopes in that someday I'll have my TV and monitor turned on at the same time with my VGA!
    Thanks again...

  • MSI G4Ti4400-vtd DOA?

I just got a G4 Ti4400-vtd and haven't been able to get it working. I can load W2000 or W98 and everything is fine until I try to play a game or run a DVD.
Then it crashes and freezes my system. Sometimes a black screen with a white cursor, but not always. I have not been able to play a game or video for even a second.
I have tried several clean installs of the OS and reseating the card. I have also tried several MSI and Detonator drivers with no luck. Also have updated motherboard drivers, installed DirectX 8.1 etc.
When I put my old Viper 550 in everything works fine.

I just looked up on this board at Soyo.
    Very impressive.
There was an article on your board and video card issues.
It said to install Via4in1 first.
    Check memory modules.
    Not much help here????
    1)  So what you could try is to install Via4in1, then install your det drivers, install Dx8, then install AGP drivers which are part of Via4in1 but you can download separate from Via.
I would suggest Via4in1 version 4.40 and AGP ver 4.20a.
(as the new ones are beta still)
    2)  Check your AGP voltage in your BIOS and see what is shown.  I don't know anything bout this board but for the Gf4 AGP should be 1.5v.  Also look for anything else in your Bios that could be related to AGP and see what is shown.  Only change things when you feel 100% confident though.  AGP driving value is one you shouldn't touch at the moment but anything else could be fine.
    3)  Do step 1) again but when installing Via4in1 untick Turbo mode and Tick standard.
You should check Soyo site and see what you come up with.  Check on newer drivers etc and check how to change AGP value, if you can.
    Hope this helps some...
    ps just a quick note.
It is usually best when installing new card to redo Operating System from a reformat.
