Win JDeveloper war file to oc4j instance on solaris??

I have been trying to get a war file that I deployed on JDeveloper (windows release candidate) set up on my solaris oc4j( version 2 dev release). I read on this forum these directions:
"Right click on the myproject.jpr in the JDev navigator and select 'new...', go to Deployment Profiles and select J2EE Web Module (WAR File) - a general screen will pop up asking you to save the deployment profile (you can just use the default if you want). Once you select OK on that, you will get a screen that calls itself the J2EE Web Module Deployment Profile Settings. This is the screen that you can use to enter your information.
Your servlet and javabean classes will go into WEB-INF/classes subdirectory that you see to your left in this window. Simply select the WEB-INF/classes entry and it will display a list of your java sources (it will only place the compiled output in this directory - there is a toggle for it).
Once you have specified that your javabean and servlet classes go in this directory, you should be set. Go ahead and save / close. In your navigation screen under your project (myproject.jpr or whatever your project name is) you will see your files, jsps, etc and something called webapp1.deploy (if you accepted the default). If you right-click on that, you will get a menu that asks a number of things, one of which is to Deploy to EAR file. Select that entry and it will create an ear file for you. You can play with the various settings to change the name of the ear file, but that's about all you have to do. Once this is completed, you can put the EAR file on your linux box or wherever you want, adjust your server.xml and default-web-app.xml files and launch the app!
EXCEPT...I did not deploy to EAR ; I deployed to war and then I just modified two config files (under j2ee/home/config)
application.xml

and default-web-app.xml
<web-module id="notesWar" path="../../home/applications/notesWar.war" />
This seems to work , but when I set up my project in JDeveloper, I specified a target file to run, and within JDeveloper it includes the directory not just the file (which is a windows directory) so I am thinking that when I try to deploy on unix, it doesn't know what target file to run bc it can't find it, but I don't know that that information is even included in the war file... is there somewhere else you specify when you are deploying the war file which html, jsp, etc. needs to be run first. By the way, when I launch the application on the solaris oc4j via war deployment, it goes to the first html file listed in the war (I need it to go the second html file first).

I am sorry; I mistyped....
I already configured default-web-site.xml with the above values.
The war file will run on the solaris oc4j instance, but it just
runs the wrong initial html. I need a login to be the target
page, but I don't know how to specify that for my particular
situation.
If I run the application within JDeveloper on Windows
without a war file, it works. I run like this...
Right click on the (.jpr) project file and run...it will go to the
correct run target bc I have specified within the project
settings, the default run target, but when i try to run as a war,
it does not go to the correct run target so I need to know how to
specify a default run target for a war file. I did create the
war after I specified the default run target.

OC4J Instance Failure

I'm currently install 9iAS R2 in w2k, however, it always failed to setup "OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant" at the end of installation, even Oracle9iAS Infrastructure or Oracle9i Application Server.
The error was:

oracle.ias.sysmgmt.exception.TaskException: The configuration files for this Oracle9iAS instance are inconsistent with the

If you have a corrupted repository you are pretty much done unless you have made a backup of the repo. I had what looked like a corrupted repository and when I contact Oracle support on it they said the best thing to do is reinstall because we may spend hours attempting to fix it and not get anywhere, one has to wonder if they even know how to fix it.
Another issue that I discovered is that there is an undisclosed bug with the repository that they are currently working on a fix for. It seems that if you issue dcmctl commands while the em is up you risk corrupting the repository. Now the AS9i admin documentation claims that you must have the em up for everything to function properly and that was bad news for me because the EM is so slow on my platform it is almost unusable and I opted to use the dcmctl for everything. When I brought this up to the support representative I was working with he told me that the documentation was incorrect and it would function fine with out the web enterprise manager up. Either way I would get in the habit of making backups of the repo before you do anything.
In your case I would reinstall the whole thing and when you reinstall you have to make sure that you completely remove all oracle references on the system. Inorder for you to have a successfull reinstall you have to have a completly clean system. Oracle produced a note on what you need to remove from the system inorder for a success reinstall, this document is however just for Unix so its not going to help you much. Last I checked the note wasn't public and consequently not available on metalink, I had to request it through Oracle support. The note is number 201977.1 if you can not access it and you want it let me know and I can send it to you.

To startup , hide, shutdown of oc4j instance

to run my application i have to explicitly start oc4j instance and have to minimize the same after that only i can load my application.
what i want is to invoke Oc4j implicitly when i enter the application URL and i have to hide the Oc4j instance when it get started.
when i logout from my application ,I need to shutdown Oc4j instance along with it .

This avoids user from starting up the instance manually.
Solution
Way A:)
1. Make sure you have "srvany.exe" and "instsrv.exe" installed on your system.
These executables create and allow any Windows application to be run as "service".
2. Install OC4J instance as a service with the following command on the command prompt.
C:\services>instsrv oc4j902 c:\services\srvany.exe
where 'services' is the directory with srvany.exe and instsrv.exe executables.
oc4j902 is the name of OC4J instance to be installed as service.
3. Open 'Services' from the control panel. You will find that this is listed in the list of 'service'.
4. Click on Startup button. Set startup type for oc4j902 service as automatic.
5. Under 'Log on As', select 'this' account and select local user name.You will need to retype password .
6. Run REGEDIT.
7. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\oc4j902.
a. Create a key under oc4j902 by right clicking oc4j902 and selecting New Key.
b. Type in 'Parameters' for your new key value.
c. Under the 'Parameters' key, create an application string as follows.
Right click on 'Parameters',
select New 'String Value'
Name it as 'Application'.
d. Double click on the Application value to provide the full path of the script file - startinst.bat which starts OC4J.
Type E:\9iDS\j2ee\Oracle9iDS\startinst.bat
Here E:\9iDS is the ORACLE_HOME where 9iDS is installed.
10. Go to the Control panel -> service. Start OC4J service.

One Oracle Application Server and multiple OC4J Instances

While we are getting new server (for development) we have to set-up a Development and Production enviroment for our project (dont have previous OAS installation) but on the same machine.
So, is a good option to have One OAS INstallation (Ora Home) and then create multiple OC4J instances, one for each environment (Development, QA and Production)?, is it possible? How to manage deployments between OC4J instances, simulating different contexts if they are in the same server and under the same HTTP Server? Will be there conflicts?

you can do this and OracleAs will manage the different instances. The deployment can be done with Enterprise Manager in which case you select the OC4J instance first before deploying. If deploying from JDeveloper, you can specify the OC4J instance when creating the named connection

To change the JDBC driver for a single OC4J instance

I implemeted an app with oracle adf (Jdeveloper 10.1.2 ) and it use Oracle Domain objects.
I have an oas 10g (9.04.1) in windows
and I want to change the default jdbc driver for a single oc4j instance
in metalink i found the following information:
1.- From OTN, download and copy the 10.1.0.x JDBC driver to a directory on the server. E.g OH/newjdbc
2.- Opening EM-Website, navigate to the OC4J instance that should be altered.
3.- Find the "Java-Options" and, add the -Xbootclasspath option to it, pointing to the new JDBC driver.
E.g. -Xbootclasspath/p:$OH/newjdbc/ojdbc14.jar
4.- Restart the OC4J instance
my 'Java-optios' default is
-server -Xrs -Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\904\j2ee\test_adf\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true
my new 'Java optios' now is

Seems you missed something in step 3. From those steps the driver should be installed under C:\oracle\904\newjdbc and used in classpath, not d:\jdev1012.

Error while creating a connection from JDeveloper to OC4J instance on 9iAS

I m trying to create a connection to the application server(9iAS release 2) from the JDeveloper(9.0.2.822) using the JDeveloper connection wizard. I followed all the steps, but when i click on "Test Connection" button to test the connection the error i get is "IO Error: Connection refused: connect". The description of the settings i provided in the wizard step are as follows,

Connection Type:- Oracle 9i Application Server
Step 2
Username:- admin
Password:- welcome
Deploy Password checkbox: Unchecked
Step 3 (the 9iAS server address is 192.168.30.162)
URL:- ormi://192.168.30.162/

Local dir where admin.jar is installed for Oracle 9iAS is installed:- C:\ora9i_d2k\j2ee\home

Test Connection: “IO Error: Connection refused: connect”

Hi,
You cannot connect to an Oracle9iAS environment directly using the connections node. You can only connect to an individual OC4J instance using this technique.
You need to use Oracle9iAS Distributed Management Configuration (DCM). See JDeveloper Help under Creating Application Server Connections

Error while installing OIM, during the OC4J Instance Configuration Assistan

Hi, running RHEL 4 32Bit Linux. There's an installation of the SOA Suite 10.1.3.1 (Release 2) on /u01/app/oracle/OracleAS_1, and I am installing OIM on /u01/app/oracle/OraHome_2

EJB 3.0 Cache Issue With OC4J Instance With Multiple JVM's

I created an EJB 3.0 project in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and everything works fine in the embedded OC4J server. I am deploying the application to an OC4J instance consisting of 3 Java Virtual Machines in Oracle Application server 10.1.3 and seem to be getting a different persistence context for each virtual machine. i.e. I'll have 3 browsers that can view the same data even after updating, another 2 browsers that can't see the first 3's changes but can see changes by any browser in this group, etc.
I tried adding the below to the persistence-unit tag in the persistence.xml but it didn't seem to help.

How do you get all connections to use the same cache?

We are trying to setup the Queues in the Parent OC4J ( OC4J_SS ) so that the applications in OC4J_SS1 and OC4J_SS2 can access the Queues.
We noticed that the createInstance command does not have the facility to specify the parent - all the OC4J Instances seem to inherit from the default home instance.

Thanks again - I was able to create a Group & put the OC4J instances that I need as a Group.
It's a very useful feature.
Now, when I check the Administration page for the Group,
I notice that I can " Create/delete/view _____________ for the instances in this group."
I do not want to replicate the JNDI Connection settings for every instance in my Group
( the # could easily bloat up to 5 / 6 in the future ).
I am trying to create a common JNDI Lookup Service that will be available to both the OC4J Instances.
It's something like this:-

According to google the OALL8 has something to do with the JDBC driver.

Are you doing this using the EM GUI? Or using dcmctl?
Either way, I'd try to remove the lk file that you had (no idea why that file was around - did you do multiple installs on the same box?)
and then retry the operation.

Pre-Compiling JSPs while deploying a .war file in OC4J instance

Expand the General item in the left list.
Select the Deployment Profiles item.
Select the deployment profile you need from the right.

Javascript error when creating a new OC4J instance?

Im trying to deploy the documentum portlet, and a requirement was to install Ant, Java SDK....and i did
after that...on my Application server machine (the portal), when i login to the enterprise manager to start a new OC4j instance, my browser shows a script error in the status bar in IE 6.0.
it says: Object expected, ....and whenever i click "Create OC4j instance" the page is scrolled up to the top part of the page. so there is some kind of javascript error. how can i fix this? its stopping me from my development process.

On Windows this is caused most often by the temporary directory setting.
Change the temporary directory to some fixed directory writable by anybody, e.g. "C:\temp".
Change this in:
Registry entry: hkey_local_machine\software\oracle\key_<oashome>\REPORTS_TMP
<oashome>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml: search for environment variable TEMP (under ias-instance)

Unable to deploy a simple WAR / EAR file on Standalone OC4J instance

This issue is baffling me since yesterday and while I continue to look for options , would appreciate if anyone of you has run into something similar and give me some hints on how to proceed on this ..
I downloaded the Standalone OC4J ( 10.1.3 ) from otn.oracle.com and also downloaded JDK 1.5 Update 12 from the Sun Website and installed it on my local
Windows XP machine. Everything works well and the application gets deployed.
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already
has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
startup the OC4J instance.
However when trying to deploy even a simple HelloWorld.jsp file packaged as an EAR or WAR , we get these errors..

Using the above error messages , I certainly do not find the CISS.ear file getting copied to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear
which explains the rest of the messages.
I have tried placing the EAR file both remote and local on the Application Server box but the results remain the same. Assuming it might be a permissions issue , we have opened up all the permissions on this OC4J home ( recursively )
to everyone ..
Is there a specific version of tar / unzip / jar required to deploy EARs / WARs on Solaris 5.9 running JDK 1.5 Update 12.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
Also looked at Bug:6330834 but am not very sure if this applies to our case because all these drives are local to the Sun box.
Other than attempting a reinstall and opening an Service Request with Oracle , I am running out of ideas at this time ..
So any ideas / hints would be gladly accepted :)

It sounds like you have some funky issues there with those missing XML files -- that is not expected or normal.
Do you mean you copied the same oc4j_extended.zip to the server and unzipped it, or you zipped up the directories you were using on the Windows box, copied that over, and unzipped it?
I don't know of any problems with Solaris, JDK5, U12.
What about if you do this to remove any issues with the remote copy aspect of the deployment.
1. Stop OC4J.
2. Manually copy CISS.ear to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/
3. Edit the j2ee/home/config/server.xml file and add the entry to deploy the application
4. Edit the j2ee/home/config/default-web-site.xml and bind any web-modules you need.
5. Start the server and see what happens -- the application should be deployed.
Also, what happens if you use the $JAVA_HOME/bin/jar to try and view the contents of the CISS.ear file?
