Oc4j on 9ias 9.0.2 using java 1.4??

I would like to run my java 1.4 applications on our newly purchased 9ias (ver 9.0.2). I know that Java 1.4 is not certified/supported with 9ias 9.0.2 yet. But it's easy to use java 1.4 with oc4j standalone. I tried to do the same hack on the 9ias, but then the dcmctl utility failed. Is it a way to fire up the oc4j instance with the java 1.4 binary?? (dcmctl use 1.3 and launches oc4j with 1.4). Have anybody managed to run 1.4 applications on 9ias 9.0.2? I would relly like to try in for experimental/development use.

With all the fuss over OC4J, what is the strategic importance of using OC4J versus deploying your application on 9ias? Is there something proprietory within 9ias that would be a dis-incentive? A response from would be greatly appreciated. When it seemed ORACLE had something stable they suddenly seemed to have created a whole lot of confusion!!

Before OC4J, we had the Oracle JVM running inside the database. This meant that users had to install a database to run J2EE applications. Though there were some benefits of running J2EE applications with Oracle JVM, there were some usability issues
and our customers gave us feedback that they did not like to idea of installing a database ( in the middle tier) to run J2EE applications. To address these and other concerns OC4J was launched about 6 week back.
Oracle JVM will continued to be enriched to run Java stored procedures and server -side JDBC and SQLJ. For your J2EE needs, please use OC4J. It is easy to use and very fast as another person on this thread mentioned.

Unable to access value in System Environment Variable using Java

I am using Java code to get the value of a System Environment Variable using the Runtime, Process java classes.
The code works fine in tomcat, but when deployed in 9ias the code is unable to retrieve the value stored in the System environment variable in Windows 2000.

Error FRM-92050 when using Java Plug-in in Forms SSO

Hi All,
I have the following error with trying to use Java 1.6.0_22 instead of JInitiator:
FRM92050 failed to connect to the server /forms/lservlet:-1
Java Exception:
Java.io.IOException: User does not have proper credentials configured in OID
In the log "OC4J~OC4J_BI_Forms~default_island~1" , it said:
oracle.ldap.util.GeneralErrorException: General Error when performing search: Unable to get Default RAD
Error: Unable to retrive the DB Credentials from OID.
I'm using 10gAS (10.1.2.3). The Forms SSO with JInitiator 1.3.1.26 works without any error.
Any idea?

Deployment Issues using Java Web Start

I am attempting to deploy a Java application that works in JDeveloper. The app has a Database connection to a MSSQL 2000 Server which is loaded into the active Project Libraries as Other JBDC. When I deploy the app using Java Web Start I receive the following error: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SqlServerDriver.
How to I need to configure my deployment so the JDBC works properly? Thanks in advance

Using Java, How can I Update, Add, Delete nodes in XML Files.

I want to store the student record (like Name, Age, school name, total mark etc.,) as nodes in the XMLfile. Also I should able to Update, Add, Delete any nodes (student record) in the XML file. How can I achieve this...using Java
I am able to read the content of the xml file using xml-parser. But my problem is
updating the xml file.
pls suggest some solutions or links with " example source code"

There are 2 kinds of XML parsers : SAX and DOM. DOM seems to suit your need. You can use JAXP APIs to add, delete or change nodes or attributes.
http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/TOC.html provides contents that would satisfy most of the needs.
To save a DOM modified XML file use java IO APIs to write to the same file from which it was read using a Document object ( doc.getNodeValue() ).

ORA-04030: out of process memory when using Java Stored Procedures

I have a problem using Java Stored Procedures in Oracle 10g.
My Java application performs http posts to a webservice and the response is parsed in order to populate some DB tables.
There is a scheduled job which calls the Java Stored Procedure every x minutes.
No matter of the 'x minutes' values - after about 160 - 200 calls I get this error:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1048620 bytes (joxp heap,f:OldSpace)

The job stops just while is posting the http request. The weird thing is that almost each time the first http post request I get this error:

Can be a problem with JVM threading under Oracle ?

The server prcess failed to allocate more memory for large objects ( in Oldspace).
If you Google ORA-04030, you will see several recommendations to work around this.
The Java VM in the database already has HttpClient, i don't know why you are loading the Apache HttpClient but this might not be the surce of the problem.

Using Java Access bridge (Accessibility) with oracle forms 6.0 client

I'm trying to use JAB (java Access bridge ) to capture events in oracle forms 6.0 client .
I've a Jinitiator 1.1.8 and JRE version 1.4x
I've configured JAB as per the installation guide . However the events don't surface in Java Monkey .
Has anybody encountered similar issue ? what is the solution for the issue ??
Also on one of the forums I read Jinitiator 1.3x and above is automatically recognised by Java Access bridge .
For jinitiator version less than 1.3 manual configuration is required . however I haven;'t been able to find any on the oracle forms KB

Unable to run my application using java web start

i have created one application and use java web start to download the application. all the files are succesfully downloaded but when i try to run the application an expected error occur. this only happen in my machine but not in other machine i'm currently using

Please post the information from the Web Start "Exception" and "Wrapped Exception" tabs when the error occurs (I assume the error was in fact unexpected ;-)
A blind stab in the dark would be that you don't have write permission to the cache directory on the second machine. Also worth checking that the proxy settings on the second machine are the same as the first (if they are on the same network).

How to get comparable Oracle JDBC performance using Java 1.4 vs 1.1.7?

Our application makes extensive use of JDBC to access an Oracle database. We wrote it a number of years ago using java 1.1.7 and we have been unable to move to new versions of java because of the performance degradation.
I traced the problem to JDBC calls. I can reproduce the problem using a simple program that simply connects to the database, executes a simple query and then reads the data. The same program running under java 1.4 is about 60% slower than under java 1.1.7. The query is about 80% slower and getting the data is about 150% slower!
The program is attached below. Note, I run the steps twice as the first time the times are much larger which I attribute to java doing some initializations. So the second set of values I think are more representative of the actual performance in our application where there are numerous accesses to the database. Specifically, I focus on step 4 which is the execute query command and step 5 which is the data retrieval step. The table being read has 4 columns with 170 tuples in it.
Here are the timings I get when I run this on a Sparc Ultra 5 running
SunOs 5.8 using an Oracle database running 8.1.7:

        step 6:      1             2I find the same poor performance from java versions 1.2 and 1.3.
I tried using DataDirect's type 4 JDBC driver which gives a little better performance but overall it is still much slower than using java 1.1.7.
Why do the newer versions of java have such poor performance when using JDBC?
What can be done so that we can have performance similar to java 1.1.7
using java 1.4?

If I run my sample program with the -server option, it
takes a lot longer (6.8s vs 3.5s).Which has to be expected, as the -server option optimizes for long running programs - so it shoudl go with my second suggestion, more below...
I am not certain what you mean by "just let the jvm
running". Our users issue a command (in Unix) which
invokes one of our java programs to access or update
data in a database. I think what you are suggesting
would require that I rewrite our application to have a
java program always running on the users workstation
and to also rewrite our
commands (over a hundred) to some how pass data and
receive data with this new server java program. That
does not seem a very reasonable just to move to a new
version of java. Or are you suggesting something
else?No I was just suggestion what you descript. But if this is not an option, then maybe you should merge your java-programs to C or another native language. Or you could try the IBM-JDK with the -faststart (or similar) option. If thew Unix you mention is AIX, then there would be the option of a resetable-vm. But I cannot say if this VM would solve your problem. Java is definitly not good for applications which only issue some unqiue commands because the hotspot-compiler can not be efficiently used there. You can only try to get 1.1.7 performance by experimenting with vm-parameters (execute java -X).

the ReportExportFormat class does not have HTML format, it has got to be XML. Export to HTML is available from CR Designer only.
