OC4J Standalone + iAS enterprise manager?

Hello everyone
We have recently been looking into OC4J standalone as a possible solution to our particular installation. We have an installation of iAS 10g2 which is configured so that each of our clients have their own environments; we mostly deal with legacy forms and reports. Each client has their own form listener, config files, report directories, etc. This is fine for our purposes.
The issue is with deploying applications in OC4Js. We could create an OC4J per client in iAS, but they would still all need the ias_admin password to deploy apps either through enterprise manager or JDeveloper. This is not desirable and is not going to happen.
With standalone OC4J we can have one per client, each with their different settings and passwords. Network ports are different for each client which is a bit troublesome but not a deal breaker. The big issue is with monitoring.
Is there any way to have the iAS 10g EM console include standalone OC4Js? Is there a way to do it from Grid Control?
Would appreciate any advice you may have.

There is recent a thread on here about how people have approached adding additional users over and above ias_admin for the purposes of managing EM. I haven't looked closely at the solutions yet, but I suspect that even by simply adding a new user as they are doing, the privileges the new user has will be the same as the ias_admin user -- in 10.1.2 (R2) and earlier it was a very coarse permission model.
And there's no support for managing OC4J standalone instances via EM or GC in R2.
What sort of applications are you deploying -- you mention forms and reports and in that regard you are restricted to R2. But if you are "deploying" custom Java applications, then using 10.1.3 (ie R3) may be an option -- in which case there are several things that may be of interest.
1. We've added support for a finer grained management model. You can create new users with a smaller set of administrative privileges -- all, deploy-apps, monitor. So you can create a cluster of servers, each with OC4J instances and users can login with their specified username and perform the tasks they have been assigned. It's not ideal since the permissions are relatively coarse (all, deploy apps, read/monitor) but its better than what was in 10.1.3.
2. If you wanted to pursue the standalone instance route, then with 10.1.3, each instance does actually embed EM, so it can be managed from a browser. With the pure standalone instances, you can't really collect them into a cluster -- each one is purely a standalone instance, but it now has its own EM console. However we have added an installation option to lay down what is essentially an OPMN managed standalone instance -- in which case you get the OPMN management layer around OC4J standalone, which in turn allows them to be collected into a cluster -- so you have a single point of management access for all the Oc4J instances. Again you could create an per instance user so that each user can only log into their own specific OC4J instance -- one thing to keep in mind that each instance does need the same global user provisioned to allow EM to operate correctly. But you can create additional users on an instance basis at will.
Again, all these things are in the 10.1.3 R3 release -- which if you are purely working with forms and reports won't help you. If you are deploying custom Java applications, then this is something you could investigate.

    Hello all,
    Many thanks for your replies,
    I found the solution finally,
I opened the file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml, all the OC4Js were there except the one I wanted, I added it to targets.xml, and every thing is good now

  • LogMiner Viewer in the Enterprise Manager 10g ??

Does somebody know if there is LogMiner Viewer in the Enterprise Manager 10g?
How could I do to work with this tool ?
    Thanks

There is a 10g style. It comes with the client software. It is very much a stripped down version. I downloaded it and installed it. I could not find Logminer viewer in it. I did find some documentation. Here is what it says.
    Launching LogMiner Viewer
To launch LogMiner Viewer, take the following steps:
Invoke LogMiner Viewer: On UNIX platforms, enter:oemapp lmviewer
The command string is case-sensitive and must be entered with lowercase characters.
On Windows NT, from the Programs menu,
choose Oracle_home > Database Administration > LogMiner Viewer.
After you invoke LogMiner Viewer, the Login dialog box is displayed.
    Select Launch standalone.
Now, you can connect to a standalone Oracle Enterprise Manager repository.
If you do not have a standalone repository or if LogMiner Viewer is not aware
of an existing standalone repository, you cannot save queries.
When you attempt to expand a database or save a query, LogMiner Viewer displays
an informational message and leads you through a dialog to connect to or to create
a repository. See Connecting to or Creating a Standalone Repository for more information.
    Click OK.

  • Can't find Enterprise Manager for standalone OC4J 10.1.2.0.2

    Hi
I downloaded standalone OC4J 10.1.2.0.2 from here so I could experiment deploying webservices to it
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/1012/oc4j_extended.zip
It installed successfully and I managed to start it ok. When I point my browser at it the home page displays but there does not seem to be an enterprise manager page. I have a jdeveloper 10.1.3 install and when I run the OC4J supplied with that I can navigate to an enterprise manager page and view applications and webservices.
This is the home page for the 10.1.2.0.2 install
    http://img405.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oc4j101202homepagecq8.jpg
This is the homepage of the 10.1.3 install supplied with jdeveloper
    http://img399.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oc4j1013homepagegb6.jpg
(click the images to see their full size)
In the 10.1.3 screenshot you can see a link to "launch application Server Control". This is missing on the 10.1.2.0.2 homepage. Should it be there for both versions?

  • Works in Enterprise Manager version of 10g but not standalone (OC4J)

ok.... on one box I'm running 10g Enterprise Manager version of the app server (v9.0.4) and on another box I'm running the standalone version of the app server (OC4J v9.0.4). I have an ear file that works in the EM version, but won't work in the OC4J version. (the ear worked in both app servers until recently when we added some code using classes in jakarta-poi-2.0-pre3.jar..... added this jar file to the WEB-INF/classes folder of the ear file; the orion-application.xml file library path points to this folder for its library (because some of our classes on the EJB side of things use the classes in the jar file) so in theory the jar file should be found by the application (and there are other jar files in there that ARE being found on both versions....)). So.... any ideas why the standalone version (OC4J) would be having problems? Could it be that a different classloader setup is used in OC4J?
    Scott

well, I found the problem.... the orion-application.xml file in the C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\application-deployments\[appname] folder was not being updated with the new version upon redployment.... don't know why that wasn't happening. I'm using hot deploy and redeploying the application by copying the ear file to the C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\applications folder. Shouldn't this cause a refresh of the files in the application-deployment folder too?? In any case, I manually edited the orion-application.xml file in the application-deployments folder to reflect the new library conditions and it works..... Additional info: i just redeployed the app again, and the timestamp on the .../application-deployments/orion-application.xml file was updated, so it appears that it is being updated but apparently from a cached version that does not reflect the new version of the orion-application.xml file in the new ear being deployed.... strange and sad.

  • Error while deploying in OC4J Enterprise Manager

Hello. I´ve got a problem deploying EAR and WAR files on my AS10g (904) via web enterprise manager. The following is a german orginal error output:
    Installation nicht erfolgreich:
Plug-In-Fehler beim Lesen von verwalteten Dokumenten.
    Root-Ursache: Expected 'EOF'.
Expected 'EOF'.
Translated in english would result in something like this:
    Installation not successfully:
Plug in error when reading administered documents.
    A root cause: Expected 'EOF'.
Solution:: The information of the "OC4J"-Komponente in the basic exception is possibly helpful.
In addition there are the following general problems:
    Wrong authorizations for files
configuration files are missing or are invalid. Expected ' eof '.
I tried different EAR files (like the oracle petshop ear file) and one war file but i get allways that mysterious error. Btw, I do not have any possibility to deploy it manualy via console.
Thank you for any hint and greetings,
    Daniel

Try to fragment the 'ear' in less than 64k blocks or don't transmit as long raw.
Please let me know if this works.

  • Multiple OC4J instances missing in the Enterprise Manager for a cluster

We have a cluster of 4 OAS instances installed on two Solaris 10 servers. When I login to the Oracle Enterprise Manager, I see only the Administration OC4J Instance. We had this issue earlier but it resolved by itself but this time the issue has been there for quite few days now. Need some help.
    Thanks.

As I told you, this is a normal behavior, so there is no workarround, because it has to work fine later, but if you dont see any change tell me...
How did you configure your Cluster?
in a command line window, run the following in any of the node of your cluster
    opmnctl @cluster status
it have to list all your components, this has to work on any of the nodes.
Also in the opmn.xml check the tags for <topology> in the firsts lines, if you dont have this in the secondary nodes then the cluster may not be working.

  • OC4J Standalone Distribution - License needed?

    Hi,
I'm using APEX 3.2 on a 10gR2 Database with an Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 1.3). In order to enable PDF generation within APEX, an OC4J standalone is needed according to PDF Printing in APEX:
Can someone confirm that OC4J standalone does not need to be licensed separately? According to every Apex documentation the "Apache FOP with the OC4J standalone" is the way to go if you don't want to spend extra money on Oracle Licenses. And I definitely do not need the whole Oracle Application Server.
What really disturbed me was the first sentence on the OC4J Standalone Distribution Web Page:
All software on this page is to be used according to the development license unless you are a licensed Oracle Application Server customer. Oracle Application Server customers can use this software according to the terms and conditions of your Oracle Application Server license.
I'm not a licensed Oracle Application Server customer but I wan't to use the OC4J standalone in a production enviroment! Do I need to license OC4J standalone?
    Regards,
    Marco

    hi %,
    The official oracle reply:
Please find below additional information to OC4J licensing:
OC4J Standalone version can be downloaded for free from OTN but its usage is subject to the OTN Agreement. The OTN agreement is very restrictive and it is important that the partner and end user know of these restrictions.
There is a link to the OTN Agreement on the url provided:
    +[http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/utilsoft.html |http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/utilsoft.html ]+
For example,  the OTN program cannot be used for internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or for any purpose except the development of a single prototype of your application.
For for any commercial or production purposes OC4J is part of Internet Application Server (Standard Standard One and Enterprise Editions) and WebLogic Suite. These programs would need to be licensed in order to use OC4J.
Unfortunately, I do not have an Oracle supported way to genereate PDF within APEX which does not cause any additional license costs.
    cheers,
    Marco

  • How to check the host name or rename the host name in Enterprise Manager

    Hello,
How do i check the host name or rename the host name in Enterprise Manager for Oracle 11g?
    Regards,
    Ming Man

there is a shell script called chgip or something
like that is there . I used it for IAS. I beleive the
same is there for database too
Rajesh AlexIf there is, I have not been able to find it.
Off the top of my head, changing the host name involves at least the following (others feel free to add on):
    For listener and connectivity
    - listener.ora
    - tnsnames.ora (on all clients as well)
    - potentially ldap.ora (on all clients as well)
    - init.ora parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
For admin using Enterprise Manager (starting 10g)
    - the contents of the sysman schema
    - the directory name of the OEM agent directory
    - the directory name of the OEM OC4J config directory
    - various config files in the OEM OC4J config directory
Oracle provides the emca to handle this last set.
In addition, the following refer to hosts that are [probably] not local

  • Uploading EJB Jars using Enterprise Manager Console

I realize most publish their EJBs as an "ear" and their web modules as "war
But, what if I want to publish my ejb as a "jar" component? The Enterprise Manager Oc4J home has buttons for uploading WAR and EAR components only.
    Please suggest work arounds.

Our forthcoming 10.1.3 release will support the additional deployment of standalone JAR files for EJB applications from Application Server Control (EM).
In earlier releases you can either:
    1. Wrapper the JAR file witihn an EAR file and deploy that.
    2. Manually deploy your JAR file to the default application using the j2ee/home/application.xml file by adding an entry such as:
    <ejb-module id="jmsrouter_ejb" path="../../home/applications/jmsrouter-ejb.jar"/>
Note that in an DCM managed environment, this form of manual deployment not a recommended option. Make sure you notify the DCM repository of this type of change using "dcmctl updateConfig".
