OCA 10g certification and prometric

I did my 1Z0-007 (SQL exam) last year at Prometric.
I know want to do my 1Z0-042 exam at the new test centre.
I have a couple of questions, once I pass my exam, will Oracle know that I also passed my 1Z0-007, and hence I will get my OCA certificate? Or do I have to do something extra?
And how long does it take to get the OCA certificate? And am I right in assuming that you do not need to attend training for OCA?
Thank you.

Or do I have to do something extra? When you register with Pearson Vue you must give you Prometric Id. as the Oracle Testing Id. This is the key to them linking. If you exams are taking under different Oracle Testing Id's it is as though 2 different persons have taken the exams ... and certification will not be forthcoming. Your Old Prometric Id. is your Oracle Testing Id.
visit [http://www.oracle.com/education/certfication] support - FAqs for more and up to date info.
It also should be useful if you get registered on Certview to see how things are going [http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/11/0080a.html]. Things take a 3 weeks to get to certview.
And how long does it take to get the OCA certificate? About 4-6 weeks.
And am I right in assuming that you do not need to attend training for OCA?Yes, There is no mandatory pre-requisite training to get a 10g DBA OCA certification

    Hello, I have a doubt.
I'm currently studying for OCA 11g version ( 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 ) with the release of 12c can I still take the exam for 11g ?.
I'm new in Oracle's world, In Microsoft certifications you can take exams for the current release of a product and also for the previoss version.
    Thanks !.
    Regards.

Yes, you can still do the 11g exams .  In fact the 12c  1Z0-062 exam is still beta and not production.

  • OCA 10g OCA 11g ?

I gained my OCA 10g certification in 2007, is there such a thing as an upgrade exam from OCA 10g > OCA 11g, or do I have to start the 11g track from scratch ?

However IMHO if you view the topics for 10g OCA and 11g OCA you will see about 75%+ commonality so its not like you have to start from scratch, more like 2/3 to 3/4 the way up the hill.
If your final target is 11g OCP then you are obviously aware you could go 1z0-043 + 1z0-050 or 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 ..... with a hands on course being required either way. I don't wish to advise on which route would suit you best.

  • OCA 10g cetification

    hello,
Can somebody tell me your recent experiences of OCA 10g certification? What was the format, difficulty level of questions and on which topic u find more questions?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
With due respect, I would say the question is inappropirate.Reason for saying this, its every man's own poison. You can't ( and you shouldn't) make your opinion about this exam based on soemone's experiences. Some one who passed it with mere passing score may say its very tough, some one with full score may say it was very easy.Whom to believe?
It doesn't matter on which topic the questions come more or which topic is elliminated from the exam?Oracle has not made any kind of announcement like this ever for the exam.If the topic is listed in the exam contetns, just assume, you will get question out of it.Now it may happen that one person had not got any questions from X topic doesn't mean its not part of exam. Its just that he didnt get it but there is no such thing that you won't get it too.
What I can suggest is that just prepare well both theoretically and practically for the exam and go for it.Taste the poison yourself and then decide how it was, don't let others change your way of preparation or thinking about the exam difficutly level.Just take it as "very tough" and go with this mentality.Atleast you wont be surprised if it really comes out as "very tough" ;-).
    Best of luck!

  • ROI for OCA 10g

Does anyone have statistics on the ROI for the OCA 10g certification? How much emphasis do employers place on an OCA certification? For an OCP certification? How much experience is expected for each? Any other info will be greatly appreciated.

You can check this site: http://www.certmag.com for further information on certification issues.
On the other hand, if you're in doubt about being certified or not, I can tell you if you were in the same condition as another job applicant, same degree, same experience, same skills, the difference between being selected or not is to be or not to be certified.

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?

  • Differences between OCA 10g and OCA 11g

    Hi,
I am currently studying the OCA 10g Administration I but I have not taken the exam yet. I am also taking the SQL Expert exam but I dont think that is version specific.
I would like to know how different or what the differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams are as I fear that 10g will be out of date soon. I am considering just taking the 11g exam even though I have only studied 10g.
I had a look at both the syllabuses and they look pretty similar and was hoping someone could add some personal notations of their experience. I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
I don't want to go to do OCP as I am only doing to obtain a good foundation for working on the functional side of financials.
    Thanks in advance.
    Luke

differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams
Different version different new features discussed. example : no ADR in the 10g, no invisible index in 10g, DRA etc.
Syllabus maybe the same, but features is different.
I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
OCP is deeper than OCA. mostly OCA cover all features of the Oracle, and the OCP discussed about more advanced technique like RMAN, ASM, Memory Management, etc. but again 10g and 11g have different features.
That's why for 10g OCP who wants to upgrade become 11g OCP, has to follow 11g new features exam.

  • OCA certification and remainder function

Hello, I'm studying for the OCA certification and need help to understand how the remainder function works.
    I read that (http://www.techonthenet.com/oracle/functions/remainder.php) the remainder(m,n) is calculated as: m - (n * X) where X is the integer nearest m / n.
    I ask: why remainder(12.5,5)=2.5 ?
According to me the result should be >>> remainder(12.5,5)=12.5-(5*[the integer nearest 12.5/5])=12.5-(5*3)=-2.5.
    Thanks for your replies. Regards.

    Actually X = [m/n] = floor(m / n), i.e. the integer nearest m/n rounded down.
    So remainder(12.5, 5) = 12.5 - 5*2 = 2.5You sure about that?
    SQL> select 12.6/5, floor(12.6/5) from dual;

           2.6
    SQL> select remainder(12.6,5) from dual;
    REMAINDER(12.6,5)
                 -2.4
SQL>Looks like the rounding is a little odd. Typically rounding goes upwards when it get's to .5 of a number, but remainder takes .5 downwards and anything above that upwards...
    SQL> select remainder(12.50000000000001,5) from dual;
    REMAINDER(12.50000000000001,5)
                              -2.5

Me, I just prefer using MOD(m,n), cos then I know what I'm getting. ;)

  • Oracle OCA 10g

Im doing the Oralce OCA 10g exam on friday and have a question.. How many questions do you have to get correct to pass ? Also has anybody here done it recently ?

    1) It's on the Oracle Education website at http://education.oracle.com under the Certification link;
    2) The number of questions that will be asked, the number of questions that will be ignored out of the batch, and the number of question to get correct out of the remainder, is defined and published at the time the exam is created with Prometric.
For OCA, assuming the OP is referring to Oracle Database 10g OCA, and not any of the other umpteen current OCA exams, the answer is
    Duration:     120 minutes
    Number of Questions:     90
    Passing Score:     68%

  • OCA 10g 1Z0-042 exam; Topics in the book 'OCP All In One Exam Guide'

    Hello All
The book is divided into Part I (for 1Z0-042), and Part II (1Z0-043), however the Exam Topics doc on the website seems to cover more than is in Part I. E.g. Flashback is discussed in Chapter 29, a full seven Chapetrs into Part II!!
Can anyone offer definitive advice on the chapters to study, and also if this book covers all the topics? Is the Sybex book more accurately laid out in terms of topics?
Finally, I am considering buying the NetG tutorial disks, and the same question as above, do they cover all the material? I don't want to shell out £700 for nothing(!)
    Thanks all

I must have been have been at the horses head. This is a sort of cross reference.
This is one of the first exam I did. (It probably cross references from the books to the exam topics - actually it looks like it juest references between books!).
I worked from the Oracle Press book as master the attacked the Sybex.
I learnt my lesson. I now start off first with official authorative exam topics and build my notes framework from that.

  • OCA 10g for DBA

    Hi,
I'm planning to take the exam OCA 10g for DBA. I'm wondering which books you would recommend me as a good reference.
    I think I will try 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-042 (as a mandatory one)
If 1Z0-007 exam is a good choice?
I bought a book: OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide (Hardcover)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Biju Thomas (Author)
for preparing to 1Z0-007, but I'm not sure which book is good for 1Z0-042 exam.
    This one:
OCA: Oracle 10g Administration I Study Guide (1Z0-042) (Paperback)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Bob Bryla (Author), Joseph C. Johnson (Author), Matthew Weishan (Author)
    or:
Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-In-One Exam Guide (Oracle Database 10g Handbook) [ILLUSTRATED] (Paperback)
by Damir Bersinic (Author), John Watson (Author)
I have been reading many reviews on Amazon but still I want to ask before making a decision.
    Thanks

    I recommend using both books.
For me the best way to prepare was first using the one of McGraw Hill because this one was easier to read.
But this book misses some details which are asked during the exam!
So the best thing is to read the one of Sybex as well aferwards to check for missing details.
A colleague of mine first prepared with only the Sybex book, but got questions on the exam which weren't covered in the Sybex book as well.
So it seems that preparing with only one of these books is not sufficient.
I didn't find too many mistakes in the McGraw Hill book.
Opposed to the OCP 11 g Upgrade book from S. Alapati... But let's not get into the pain it was to prepare using this book...
    Kind regards,
    David

THxNo, for your practical purposes there is no expire date. So you have no worries there.
I say for practical purposes, because at some point the 9i and then eventually the 10g certifications will be retired ... however 3 months notice will be given of this, but I suspect that is years and years ahead before retirement 9g certifications and many more years before the retirement of the 10g certifications (8i certification have only recently been retired)
    However ....
What is very very useful for you to do, if you have not done so already, is to complete your hands-on course. This means you will get your OCP certificate a little quicker.
Checkout the certification FAQ's currently here : [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=82#5Q1A] and about completing your hands on requirement form here [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=99].
This form is a questionaire in the form of a test with 30 minutes to complete .... make sure you have your information at hand before you start and view over the associated tutorial before you begin.
