I am seeing this chapter in part 1 exam of IZO-042 in All in one exam guide by oracle ,
but not in other books and practice exams, its saying that its part of IZO-043 ....
is this part of IZO-042 or IZO-043?

  • OCA 10g IZO-042 , Practicing exam, tips to get good score

I am practicing questions given at the end of each chapter in Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-in-One Exam Guide book, but hardly 50-60% are getting correct...wondering for tips to score higher....

    01) In addition to any available book in the market for OCA/OCP preparation, I would strongly advice and suggest using Oracle Student Guides/Oracle ILT Materials for your OCA/OCP preparation.
    02) Most of the theoretical and logical questions in the real exam are asked from these guides/materials concepts or chapters.
    03) These student guides are more simplified and very easy to understand, and have very précised and handy information.
    04) The information or concepts of Oracle Student Guides/Oracle ILT Materials have been abstracted, prepared, and developed using the bunch of Oracle Documentations.
    05) For writing Oracle Certification Exams, it's very hard to prepare the whole repository of Oracle Documentations. That's why; Oracle University prepared the précised and concise Student Guides/ITL Materials.
    06) After finishing thoroughly reading these guides, as many times as you can, till you get the concepts from this materials, the next step is preparing the practice exams, before you take up the real exam.
    07) In my opinion and my experience in writing OCP Exams, the practice exams of Self Test Software and Transcender are highly recommended for preparing the OCA/OCP/OCE Exams.
    08) This will give you the similar look and feel, and the pattern of the real exam, and helps you manage in real exam.
    09) All most of all the practice questions from these test engines (Self Test Software and Transcender) are developed and derived from Oracle Student Guides/Oracle ILT Materials Concepts.
    10) Never mug up the practice exam questions and answers, instead try understanding the question and the answer, if needed for any syntax or command sort of questions, do the paper work i.e write the question, syntax or command, and answers in the paper to remember and understand.
    11) Concisely what I would suggest is, read the Oracle Student Guides/ILT Materials meticulously as much as you can and do more practice the questions of the test engines (Self Test Software and Transcender) for your Oracle Certification Exam Preparation.
Above points are extracted from my blog.

  • OCA 10g 1Z0-042 exam; Topics in the book 'OCP All In One Exam Guide'

    Hello All
The book is divided into Part I (for 1Z0-042), and Part II (1Z0-043), however the Exam Topics doc on the website seems to cover more than is in Part I. E.g. Flashback is discussed in Chapter 29, a full seven Chapetrs into Part II!!
Can anyone offer definitive advice on the chapters to study, and also if this book covers all the topics? Is the Sybex book more accurately laid out in terms of topics?
Finally, I am considering buying the NetG tutorial disks, and the same question as above, do they cover all the material? I don't want to shell out £700 for nothing(!)
    Thanks all

I must have been have been at the horses head. This is a sort of cross reference.
This is one of the first exam I did. (It probably cross references from the books to the exam topics - actually it looks like it juest references between books!).
I worked from the Oracle Press book as master the attacked the Sybex.
I learnt my lesson. I now start off first with official authorative exam topics and build my notes framework from that.

I was planning to take the OCA (Exam 1Z0-042) next week. But I recently saw that starting November 1, the focus of the exam will be on Oracle Database 10g R2.
I have been preparing with the hlep of the Oracle10g Administraton I book from Sybex. Will the topis differ to a great extent now that the exam will focus only on R2? Has anyone taken this exam after November 1 and found a great difference?
    Thanks,

Thanks bhuttie. I do plan to take the selftest exams but I was just thrown off with the words " focus on Oracle Database 10g R2" on Oracle's website. Did you take the exam after November 1 as well ?

NehaIn general one should go for 1z0-052 11g rather than 1z0-042 10g (and 11g is newer).
The 11g exam may arguably be up to 5% more difficult, but any difference is barely signnificant.
What is important if to consider that after 1x DBA OCA you may be considering 1x DBA OCP. Then in addition to considering the 1z0-0(x+4)3 exam you will need to consider the hands on course requirement.
The options for that hands-on-course requirement may influence your route.

What are the Preparations recommended to Pass OCA *10gDBA(1Z0-042)* exam ?

    My recommendations is as below:
    1. You should be familiary with the [exam topics |http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_042] and read them from Documentation
    2. You should read Sybex book [OCA: Oracle 10g Administration I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-042|http://www.sybex.com/WileyCDA/SybexTitle/OCA-Oracle-10g-Administration-I-Study-Guide-Exam-1Z0-042.productCd-0782143679.html]
    3. You should read McGraw Hill [Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-In-One Exam Guide|http://www.mhprofessional.com/product.php?cat=7&isbn=0072257903] book
    4. And at the end, you should install Oracle Database and practice, practice and practice

  • Differences between OCA 10g and OCA 11g

    Hi,
I am currently studying the OCA 10g Administration I but I have not taken the exam yet. I am also taking the SQL Expert exam but I dont think that is version specific.
I would like to know how different or what the differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams are as I fear that 10g will be out of date soon. I am considering just taking the 11g exam even though I have only studied 10g.
I had a look at both the syllabuses and they look pretty similar and was hoping someone could add some personal notations of their experience. I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
I don't want to go to do OCP as I am only doing to obtain a good foundation for working on the functional side of financials.
    Thanks in advance.
    Luke

differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams
Different version different new features discussed. example : no ADR in the 10g, no invisible index in 10g, DRA etc.
Syllabus maybe the same, but features is different.
I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
OCP is deeper than OCA. mostly OCA cover all features of the Oracle, and the OCP discussed about more advanced technique like RMAN, ASM, Memory Management, etc. but again 10g and 11g have different features.
That's why for 10g OCP who wants to upgrade become 11g OCP, has to follow 11g new features exam.

  • OCA 10g for DBA

    Hi,
I'm planning to take the exam OCA 10g for DBA. I'm wondering which books you would recommend me as a good reference.
    I think I will try 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-042 (as a mandatory one)
If 1Z0-007 exam is a good choice?
I bought a book: OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide (Hardcover)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Biju Thomas (Author)
for preparing to 1Z0-007, but I'm not sure which book is good for 1Z0-042 exam.
    This one:
OCA: Oracle 10g Administration I Study Guide (1Z0-042) (Paperback)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Bob Bryla (Author), Joseph C. Johnson (Author), Matthew Weishan (Author)
    or:
Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-In-One Exam Guide (Oracle Database 10g Handbook) [ILLUSTRATED] (Paperback)
by Damir Bersinic (Author), John Watson (Author)
I have been reading many reviews on Amazon but still I want to ask before making a decision.
    Thanks

    I recommend using both books.
For me the best way to prepare was first using the one of McGraw Hill because this one was easier to read.
But this book misses some details which are asked during the exam!
So the best thing is to read the one of Sybex as well aferwards to check for missing details.
A colleague of mine first prepared with only the Sybex book, but got questions on the exam which weren't covered in the Sybex book as well.
So it seems that preparing with only one of these books is not sufficient.
I didn't find too many mistakes in the McGraw Hill book.
Opposed to the OCP 11 g Upgrade book from S. Alapati... But let's not get into the pain it was to prepare using this book...
    Kind regards,
    David

  • ORACLE 10G- 1Z0-042 PRACTISE TESTS

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if pass-guarantee.com practise tests for Oracle 10g 1Z0-042 is a good preparation tool for the above exams?
If it is , why is Oracle not recommending them?
Surprisingly though I am told some of their questions appear verbatim on the real exams.
Why don't they accept any other method of payment other than Major Credit Cards?
Selftest software has still not yet released their OCA. That is why I am curious to find other good vendors.2005 is soon comming to an end.
    Thanks

I had a quick look at the site of pass-guarantee.com and I have to say that I'd rather throw my money into the sewer than spending one penny with them. What a lousy website. No matter how good there exams might be - if the storefront looks as bad as this I run, not walk, away.

  • OCA 10g exam requirment changes

If someone like me is thinking about doing OCA 10g, better do it before Dec1, 2008 . becasue Oracle is adding one extra paper...
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=231

As stated on the same page you refer at the FAQ section. Oracle considered that an OCA certificate is more valuable if it endorses sql skills. IMO, this is just to leave the certication the way it used to be up to 9i, when the SQL exam requirement was still valid.
A DBA not only should be an EM DBA, a DBA must also have the skills to issue queries, create batch jobs, generate SQL Out of SQL and be able to manage a database from the CLI. If a DBA doesn't meet these requirements you would only have half a DBA. What would happen if there it comes the day when the DBA finds EM is not available for whatever reason? An enterprise would automatically loose a DBA.

Oracle 10g is an auto managed database. Why ?
I have read that with 10g version, Oracle database will need very less management, since it can be configured to automanage itself. Sounds not believable.
Apart from auto extending tablespaces, what others tasks can be automanaged in Oracle DB 10 G release ?
    Please discuss.

  • Oracle 10g database as Resource manager and heuristic transaction decision

    Hi,
I have read in documents about distributed tarnsaction that resource manager like oracle databasecthat are involved in distributed transaction can take heuristic decision(unilateral decision) and can either rollback or commit the transaction associated with itself without having confirmation from the transaction manager.
I want to know how a resource manager take this unilateral decision and can we set this as parameter either in resource manager or in application server.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Following are some links to documents.
    Handling Heuristic Completions
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jta.html
A heuristic completion (or heuristic decision) occurs when a resource makes a unilateral decision during the completion stage of a distributed transaction to commit or rollback updates. This can leave distributed data in an indeterminate state. Network failures or resource timeouts are possible causes for heuristic completion. In the event of an heuristic completion, one of the following heuristic outcome exceptions may be thrown:
HeuristicRollback—one resource participating in a transaction decided to autonomously rollback its work, even though it agreed to prepare itself and wait for a commit decision. If the Transaction Manager decided to commit the transaction, the resource's heuristic rollback decision was incorrect, and might lead to an inconsistent outcome since other branches of the transaction were committed.
HeuristicCommit—one resource participating in a transaction decided to autonomously commit its work, even though it agreed to prepare itself and wait for a commit decision. If the Transaction Manager decided to rollback the transaction, the resource's heuristic commit decision was incorrect, and might lead to an inconsistent outcome since other branches of the transaction were rolled back.
HeuristicMixed—the Transaction Manager is aware that a transaction resulted in a mixed outcome, where some participating resources committed and some rolled back. The underlying cause was most likely heuristic rollback or heuristic commit decisions made by one or more of the participating resources.
    2. Understanding EJB Transaction
    http://www2.sys-con.com/itsg/virtualcd/Java/archives/0504/tyagi/index.html
    Unilateral Decisions
The transaction manager allows certain heuristic or speculative decisions to be made based on the state of all participating resources in a transaction and the underlying two-phase commit protocol. A heuristic decision occurs when one of the resources in the transaction unilaterally decides to commit or roll back the transaction without permission from the transaction manager
    3. Oracle® Containers for J2EE
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/web.1013/b28958.pdf
    Heuristics
To achieve consensus, two-phase commit is a blocking protocol. This means that, if a coordinator fails before delivering the final phase messages, the participants must remain blocked, holding onto resources. Modern transaction systems add heuristics to two-phase commit, which allows such participants to make unilateral decisions about whether they will commit or rollback. If a participant makes a choice that turns out to be different from the one taken by other participants, then non-atomic behavior occurs.
I got this problem while trying to do a distributed J2EE tarnsaction with two XA (one MQ and other Oracle 10g database XA) and one non-xa (oracle 10g database). According to above docs a resource manager can decide tarnsaction final state unilaterally and that can result in unatomic transaction.
Do oracle also make such decision and if yes then on what ground it takes decision? Can we change this according to our requirement either always rollback/commit anywhere as parameter setting?
    Thanks

  • OCA 11g vs OCA 10g

I have the intention to pursue OCA but I am not sure if it would be worth it to try OCA 10g or maybe try OCA11g right away. Any help would be appreciated. Is there any material already for OCA 11g that is recommended.
    Cheers

    >> Hey man where i can i get free resources for preparing for 10g or 11g OCP.your help will be really appreciated
For your preparation tey the Student Guides/ILT (Instructor Led Training) Materials, which are developed by Oracle. These course materials are given to the students/candidates those who undergo the respective and correspondent courses from Oracle University/Any authorized Oracle Center. In general, all questions are asked in the exams from these materials topics. So, these ILTs are handy in preparing and passing the exams.
For sure no books or materilas are availble on the net for free to prepare for OCA/OCP Exams.
Only the free documents available place is.
