OCA 10g upgrade?
Hello to everyone,
I have an 10g OCA and I want to upgrade to 11g and/or continue to 11g OCP on the shortest path.
Can anyoane guide me, I found information about upgrading OCP 10g to 11g... nothing on the OCA upgrades available... and how (which way) to transform it in an OCP 11g...
Thank you all and have a nice day!

Thank you all and have a nice day!Hi and welcome to the forum!
There's no upgrade path for OCA certification. You have two choices:
- Pass 10gOCP exam and upgrade the whole OCP certification to 11g version (two exams - 10gOCP, 11gOCP upgrade)
- Start taking 11g exams (11g OCA and OCP)

Differences between OCA 10g and OCA 11g
Hi,
I am currently studying the OCA 10g Administration I but I have not taken the exam yet. I am also taking the SQL Expert exam but I dont think that is version specific.
I would like to know how different or what the differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams are as I fear that 10g will be out of date soon. I am considering just taking the 11g exam even though I have only studied 10g.
I had a look at both the syllabuses and they look pretty similar and was hoping someone could add some personal notations of their experience. I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
I don't want to go to do OCP as I am only doing to obtain a good foundation for working on the functional side of financials.
Thanks in advance.
Lukedifferences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams
Different version different new features discussed. example : no ADR in the 10g, no invisible index in 10g, DRA etc.
Syllabus maybe the same, but features is different.
I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
OCP is deeper than OCA. mostly OCA cover all features of the Oracle, and the OCP discussed about more advanced technique like RMAN, ASM, Memory Management, etc. but again 10g and 11g have different features.
That's why for 10g OCP who wants to upgrade become 11g OCP, has to follow 11g new features exam.

Hi,
I'm planning to take the exam OCA 10g for DBA. I'm wondering which books you would recommend me as a good reference.
I think I will try 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-042 (as a mandatory one)
If 1Z0-007 exam is a good choice?
I bought a book: OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide (Hardcover)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Biju Thomas (Author)
for preparing to 1Z0-007, but I'm not sure which book is good for 1Z0-042 exam.
This one:
OCA: Oracle 10g Administration I Study Guide (1Z0-042) (Paperback)
by Chip Dawes (Author), Bob Bryla (Author), Joseph C. Johnson (Author), Matthew Weishan (Author)
or:
Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-In-One Exam Guide (Oracle Database 10g Handbook) [ILLUSTRATED] (Paperback)
by Damir Bersinic (Author), John Watson (Author)
I have been reading many reviews on Amazon but still I want to ask before making a decision.
ThanksI recommend using both books.
For me the best way to prepare was first using the one of McGraw Hill because this one was easier to read.
But this book misses some details which are asked during the exam!
So the best thing is to read the one of Sybex as well aferwards to check for missing details.
A colleague of mine first prepared with only the Sybex book, but got questions on the exam which weren't covered in the Sybex book as well.
So it seems that preparing with only one of these books is not sufficient.
I didn't find too many mistakes in the McGraw Hill book.
Opposed to the OCP 11 g Upgrade book from S. Alapati... But let's not get into the pain it was to prepare using this book...
Kind regards,

I gained my OCA 10g certification in 2007, is there such a thing as an upgrade exam from OCA 10g > OCA 11g, or do I have to start the 11g track from scratch ?

However IMHO if you view the topics for 10g OCA and 11g OCA you will see about 75%+ commonality so its not like you have to start from scratch, more like 2/3 to 3/4 the way up the hill.
If your final target is 11g OCP then you are obviously aware you could go 1z0-043 + 1z0-050 or 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 ..... with a hands on course being required either way. I don't wish to advise on which route would suit you best.

Thanks & Regards,The first thing to note is that from your email I challenge you that you are not actually a 9i DBA OCP even though you are representing yourself as one.
Can you confirm you have received a 9i DBA Certification Success Kit from Oracle?
If the answer is yes you have received a success kit from Oracle:
- all well and good (and accept my apologies).
- Taking the 1z0-040 DBA 10g upgrade exam will get your Oracle 10g OCP Certification.
If the answer is no, and you have merely passed 1z0-007+1z0-0031+1z0-032+1z0-033 then perhaps you need to re-read the certification agreement you agreed when you took your exams:
1) Reference: [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=138]
2) Reference: [http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/downloads/certification/certagreement.pdf]
In particular breach of * especially 3.2 (iii) * representing yourself as OCP when not could actually result in Oracle nullifying all your exam passes and OCA certification and possibily preventing you from taking further exams.
My guess is you may have been through a WDP program and able to submit that as your 9i online course.
Please note if you have not received a Certification Success Kit and have and/or have not taken a hands on course there is nothing stopping you taking 1z0-040 any time you can schedule a sitting. However under NO CIRCUMSTANCES can you represent yourself as an OCP without having received the success kit (or meeting all requirements) or the consequences can be considerable.

Collection of stats prior to 10g upgrade for dictionary tables
Collection of stats prior to 10g upgrade for dictionary tables is required? I thought if you are upgrading from 9i to 10g the stats in 9i become stale in 10g.
I read a document that says you need to collect stats prior to upgrade and import them once your upgrade is done. Can someone guide me?I don't know where did you get these? There's some optimizer improvement and new feature in 10g. Collecting stats before upgrade and import later is unheard of.
I suggest you check this article

Heavu CPU Utilization of Dictionary Query - After 9i to 10g Upgrade
Hi Friends,
We have migrated our production DB from Oracle 9i(Windows) to Oracle 10g(AIX) and after that a heavy cpu utilization query is coming frequently and hence many timeouts are happening in the application.
Application is connecting to the database through Java Application (JDBC).
Once the application service is started, below query is invoked and CPU takes around 20% continuously.
The interesting thing is this query is not owned by the application schema but by SYS and it's invoked from Application Schema.
We have raised an SR but still no luck.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

I have the intention to pursue OCA but I am not sure if it would be worth it to try OCA 10g or maybe try OCA11g right away. Any help would be appreciated. Is there any material already for OCA 11g that is recommended.
Cheers>> Hey man where i can i get free resources for preparing for 10g or 11g OCP.your help will be really appreciated
For your preparation tey the Student Guides/ILT (Instructor Led Training) Materials, which are developed by Oracle. These course materials are given to the students/candidates those who undergo the respective and correspondent courses from Oracle University/Any authorized Oracle Center. In general, all questions are asked in the exams from these materials topics. So, these ILTs are handy in preparing and passing the exams.
For sure no books or materilas are availble on the net for free to prepare for OCA/OCP Exams.
Only the free documents available place is.

Hi All,
I am preparing for Oracle9i DBA OCPs to Oracle Database 10g upgrade exam 1Z0-040.
If anyone have sample practice questions/dumps for the same kindly send me at [email protected]
Thanks in Advanced,
BhupinderEarlier, there use to be some kind of test dumps available for 9i and other exams. What I heared from few people that they follow the same for 10g upgrade and they failed. Because, the pattern has changed and hardly a couple of questions have come. My recommendation would be read oracle docs for 10g new features, make practice and SYBEX 10g upgrade book might also helpfull.
Just reading dump and appearing exam could lead you to pass exam, but, ultimately, gaining nothing. Make practice and appear for the exam.
Jaffar -
hi friends can any one send me latest oca 10g dumps i am going to take my exam next week please forwrd them to [email protected] and also provide me some tips
One can buy test questions from companies like Self Test Software, Transcender and TestKing. However, even if you're not going to buy any, it is still handy to download them as they normally include some free "sample" questions:
* Buy practice tests from Self Test Software
* Buy practice tests from Transcender
* Buy practice tests from uCertify
* Buy practice exams from ExamsExpert
* Oracle offers FREE downloadable assessment test on their Web site at http://www.oracle.com/education/certification (only selected exams).
PS: Please note that you can check if a test provider is legal on the following web address: http://www.certguard.com/search.asp
There are lot of Books available for preparing for certification exams.
hope, this helps you.
