OCA Oracle DB 11G Administration I

Good morning everyone,
I passed my 1st exam SQL fundamentals few weeks ago and now I want to pass the Administration I to get my OCA.
I purchased the book with the CD.
I was wondering if there are any PowerPoint slides that would summarize each chapter to help me in my study.
I really prefer those slides compared to the summary at the end of each chapter...
I have found one on google which is very useful, "Oracle Architectural Components".
Thanks

  • Oracle Database 11g Administrator or Oracle PL/SQL and Forms Developer?

    Hi,
I am thinking about doing an Oracle certification course- Oracle Database 11g Administrator or Oracle PL/SQL and Forms Developer.
Oracle Database 11g OCP and OCM certification requires 3 mandatory training courses to be completed that costs between $1900 and $3250/each. Oracle PL/SQL certication doesn't require any mandatory training course.
Which one of these would be a good choice? Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Tracy

Regardless of which path you want to take, in order to get the OCP certification in either the DBA or PL/SQL developer track, you must first obtain the respective OCA certification for that track. I'm assuming that since you are still undecided in which path to take that you haven't started working on either yet. If you look at the pages for the OCA DBA and OCA PL/SQL Developer certs and what is required for each, you'll see that the first block of tests for either certification (the SQL based exams) has the same options (1Z0-007, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-051) and passing one of those SQL based exams gives credit towards obtaining both OCA certifications. That might be a good place to start.
Doing one of these tests first might give you some extra time to decide which track you want to pursue. But as Justin said, it really depends on what you do (or plan on doing) in your career as to which path might be more beneficial for you.
As for the OCM level stuff, I wouldn't even think about it until you get the OCP. One step at a time... Same with OCP before OCA. That being said, my suggestions are just that, suggestions. You're free to take any exams/courses in any order, but you won't be able to obtain the certs until you have completed the requirements for each.

  • I am now "Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate"

    Hi
after very hard work I am now Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate. I attended courses (Admin I and SQL Fundamentals) 3 years ago. My Oracle knowhow is only the scope OCA 11g and have no Java know-how.
    What should I do next?
    - 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Certified Expert
    or
    - 1Z0-803 Java SE 7 Programmer I
    what is simpler?

I am searching for an easy winI'm not a big proponent of 'easy'. I'm much more a fan of 'worthwhile'. Determining what is 'easy' for you is not easy. It's hard enough figuring out what is easy for me. That said, a fast and dirty rule of thumb for comparing Oracle certifications is:
    Easiest
OCA -- Broad range of topics -- shallow depth
OIS -- Narrow range of topics -- moderate depth (Implementation Specialist -- dunno if they really have an accepted acronym)
OCP -- Broad range of topics -- moderate depth
OCE -- Narrow range of topics -- considerable depth
OCM -- Whole different ballgame -- perform or fail
    Hardest
Since you are asking about an OCA exam vs an OCE exam, the basic answer is going to be that the OCA exam is easier. That doesn't take into account you. For all I know, you might be mentally allergic to Java and learning it may be the hardest thing you've ever done.

  • Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I Lab files

Hi, I was trying to do the practicals for the above workshop, but i cant seem to locate the lab files from the directory/home/oracle/labs.
This is what happened when i try to run the lab file script.
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ /home/oracle/labs
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ ls
    Desktop labs
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ cd labs
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ ls

    CloneRmanRestore.sql orcl.sh rmanRestoreDatafiles.sql
    init.ora orcl.sql ultraSearchCfg.sql
    initorclTemp.ora postDBCreation.sql
I was told to run the script: $ sqlplus dba1/oracle @lab_06_02_4.sql, but apparently there's no lab files for me to run the script.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
    Many thanks in advance! :D

Hey all. I'm trying to figure out if the class "Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I Release 2" counts toward OCP certification. I know that "Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I" does from this page: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5 However, Release 2 is not listed there. It'd be a pretty spectacular waste of $3000 to take a class that doesn't count toward OCP if that's what I'm going for. :) Help appreciated!
From the UK on the link you refer to I currently see (under 11g OCP section .... ) (There is an OCP and OCM section as well).

Sorry ... misunderstood, either the (release 1 or release 2 will count). I am not authorative on this but they are not that cruel. The main general issue is 10g classes typically cannot be used for an 11g OCP. Please note I am not authorative on this but I am as sure as I can be about the principle. Check with your local Oracle University if you need to be authoratively sure.

    Thanks in advanceProbably not.
Most organisations seeking DBA's (to do DBA work) will also require experience.
The courses / certifications can show the knowledge, they can't do the experience.
Traditiionally a lot of DBA's came into the job having demonstrated the aptitude elsewhere.
That said with the market as it is at the moment methinks some organsations are demanding a call centre chai wallah has an Oracle DBA Certification. (I hope I am exagerating ... I fear I am a little too close to the truth though).
IMHO It's generally most useful when certifications either match a persons' experience or contiguously extend from their experience.
If it's an entry level job you're after and I was intervieiwing that an ISEB(testing); ITIL (foundation) (or COBIT) and good SQL (Even SQL Certified Expert) or entry level Microsoft ought to be more appropriate. But it doesn't alway work that way. And an ISEB(Testing) would probably not help you get a DBA job interview.
If you've recently had an educational background and you course was relevant to an Oracle DBA that might help a lot.
If after all that you continue with Oracle DBA courses/certification and no experience then IMHO SQL certified Expert, ITIL, and PL/SQL OCA certiifcations might help compensate for the experience ... but dont expect many employment agencies or employers to see it that may.
Please be aware these comments have just about as much chance of being correct as bigdelboy sailing to Havenpool without ending up on a sandbank.

  • Oracle database 11g certification for Java developer

    Hello,
I'm Java developer, OCPJP 6 ( Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer +6+ ) and
I decided to pass exams: 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 to get OCA ( Oracle Database +11g+ Administrator Certified Associate ) certificate,
but I need some advice, maybe i should seek other certificate, that would be more valuable for Java developer, than OCA.
    Thanks for advice.

The answer of whether a particular certification is valuable depends on you, not the tests themselves. The Oracle Certified Master for example is an extremely prestigious certification, and I have considered seeking it at some point in the future to improve my professional credentials. However, the same certification would have absolutely no value to my wife, because she's a homemaker with no interest or intent of ever working with Oracle.
Using an example a little closer to yours, only reversed --- I work as a DBA and PL/SQL developer. On several occasions I have dabbled with Java, and took a couple of classes when I worked for Oracle. I could code in Java if I had to, but wouldn't really be good without a lot of practice. However, I've never really had a sufficient need in my work to dig in and really practice enough to use it. I considered going for the Oracle Java certifications as a means of kick-starting that and getting to the point where it was really a viable option in my development. Ultimately I decided not to because I've been working with Oracle for better than fifteen years and there has never been an occasion where I really felt a need to know Java. If I were to spend a bunch of time improving my Java skills just for the certification, there's no guarantee I would ever use them after that.
Coming back to you -- if you already need SQL and DBA skills in your work, then those certifications should be of value to you immediately. If you think that you might work (or want to work) more with SQL and DBA-level skills in the future, then they should be of value to you in the future. If you won't use the skills now or ever, then the exams do nothing but add a line to your resume (which still has value, but you must determine how much).

  • The course I did to gain OCP certification in Oracle Database 11g does not appear on the courses submission list on the website of pearson vue.

The course I did to gain OCP certification in Oracle Database 11g does not appear on the courses submission list on the website of pearson vue, I sent an email to [email protected] from < email address deleted by moderator >, without an answer in 7 days since 01/28/2015, the email is below, the title of my course is in Portuguese.  What should I do in this case ?
    Dear Oracle.
I am sending this email because recently I passed in the exam 1Z0-053 Oracle Database 11g: Administration II, which is the last examination necessary to acquire the OCP Certification. However, in the path to the certification I need to prove that I participated in an Oracle Official Training.
Searching for the course on the pearson vue site, I have not found the course name on the list. So I am sending this email with the course information required for certification. I attended to the course in college FIAP (http://www.fiap.com.br/en/conheca-a-fiap/parcerias-estrategicas/), in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, from March/2010 to March/2011. Accessing the link above is possible to verify that the educational institution is an Oracle Partner. The title that I got was "Graduate in Oracle Database Management".
In this email I attached a copy of the FIAP Certified Course (front.jpg certificate, certificate back.jpg). I’m also sending the data from my profile in the pearson vue site (Pearson VUE - My profile.pdf), and my scores in the exams for OCP certification (1Z0-051.pdf, 1Z0-052.pdf, 1Z0-053.pdf ).
If you need any further information just let me know and I will provide.
Please acknowledge this information and grant me the OCP certification (Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional).
    Regards.
    Italo Moisés dos Santos.

    Sorry, I expressed myself badly.
When I access http://www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/course/ and start submission process  of the course, in the first step “Select the track for which you have completed a certification requirement” I selected the option “Oracle Database 11g Administrator OCP”, in the second step I selected “ILT = Instructor Led Training”,  but when I got on the third step “Which course or requirement did you complete?”  I have to choose the course name that I did, the course name that I did does not appears in that list, so I do not know which one to select, even having at the end of the form the option “Other ...(Course or requirement is not shown above. Please enter title below.)” the course name I did is in Portuguese/Brazil, the name is “MBA em gestão de banco de dados oracle” in Portuguese, which in English would look like "Graduate in Oracle Database Management".
I sent an email to [email protected] containing the information that I found necessary to obtain certification.
But if I have to do the process in the pearson vue site, should I put the course name in Portuguese or in English ?
Only the email I sent is not enough ?
Thanks for the help, and sorry for my english !

  • Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051 Question

i bought the OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and i am not sure do i have to read the whole book ! or just go through the exam objectives table ? because the book covers lots of topics that's not in the exam and i am kind of tight on time if any one had the book or used it pls help
To make it more clear i have a table in the book that shows each exam topic with page number next to it Like this:
    Restricting and Sorting Data
[ ]      Limit the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:104
[ ]      Sort the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:136
[ ]      Use ampersand substitution to restrict and sort output at runtime
Using Single-Row Functions to Customize Output
[ ]      Describe various types of functions available in SQL Pg:170
[ ]      Use character, number, and date functions in SELECT statements Pg:177
    Edited by: user7804566 on 01-Mar-2009 02:00

Yes indeed. Practice at work (and elsewhere) is the best way to learn and ro reinforce learning.
However, the more you read, the more you will be exposed to ideas and variations. Eventually you will find that many of the books have errors in various places. You will be winning when you are able to read and identify the errors AND explain why they are errors.
The way your original question was written implied that you were after the minimum effort to pass an exam. Your last reply implies a different, and better, attitude.
My suggestion therefore is to concentrate on the actual examples, but as quickly as possible expand to areas of interest. Explore as much as you possibly can, but make it a 'learning exploration' byut asking yourself questions and then investigating what the answer is.
Also note that in Oracle nearly every answer has an exception. The best of the best know this and try very hard to understand when things go according to plan and when (and why) expections occur.

  • Where is the database object administration GUI in Oracle XE 11g?

Please read my whole question, because I'm sure people will misunderstand, and tell me to load http://localhost:8080/apex in my browser.  I know that is there.
I am a previous user of Oracle XE 10g, but I just installed Oracle Express 11g. I only want to use it to get a local instance of Oracle database. The 10g APEX UI provided an easy way to administer database objects (users, schemas, and the like), but it appears the 11g APEX UI is some kind of weird application development environment that I don't want to use. It doesn't even seem aware of the schemas I created in the database using SQL Plus.
So, where is the regular admin GUI for Oracle database objects like users/schemas (i.e. something that will list the schemas that exist in the database, and allow me to add or delete them)? Or does 11g force you to do that using SQL (in which case, I'm going to go back to 10g).
    Thanks,
    Jeff

No, SQL workshop is not what I want.
Basically, I don't want to deal with this concept of a "workspace" at all. It's useless to me and just gets in my way. All I want is a a UI where I can view a list of the schemas that exist in the database, and manipulate them easily.
I have TOAD, so I could use that, but I liked the old 10g administration GUI, since it provided the exact functionality at the exact level of complexity that I needed.

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?

Asking for braindumps? Those are illegal, and Oracle may not grant you any cert if they know you're using them (like, if you ask for braindumps on Oracle's own website?!).
There are, on the other hand, a number of legitimate resources you can use. Go to amazon.com, and search for "oracle ocp 11g" and you're sure to bring up some books by Oracle Press, etc. that you can use.
