Check the certification requirements and read the associated oracle on-line docs (all answers are into that) :

  • Oracle 9i track - study books and guides ???!!!

    Hi all,
....I am very much interested in taking the Oracle 9i OCP exams. Can anyone recommend a particular group of study books for these. One that has the most information in passing the tests. And also, Microsoft has the "Transcenders" which are the best simulation exams you can buy out there for anyone taking the microsoft certification exams.
    Thanks in advance

This is not the right forum (feedback about documentation) and I suggest you get in touch with your local OU / Education rep about it or contact the Certification Program directly. Contact info can be found via http://education.oracle.com

  • Study books

I own the book OCA—Oracle 10g Administration I Study Guide (Exam 1Z0-042) I understand that this exam has been changed and broken up into two parts. I bought the book before when there was only one exam to obtain OCA certification, but never obtained the certification. Now I would actually like to try and obtain this certification. Will this book still be enough to study for these two new exams or should I look for new study material?

... the book ...There is more than one such book
... I understand that this exam has been changed ...Yes - there have been changes since books OraclePress/Sybex were printed
However if you look at the topics there is probably only a 10%-20% change from the book(s) ... it essentially was when exam was updated from 10gR1 to 10gR2 standard. I think there were more topics taken out than put in.
The trick is to exam the current exam topics and note the differences .... You may (or may not) find some are covered in the 1z0-043 from the same series or in 1z0-052 preparation material.
From memory in fact there may be a liittle less in the exam than previously, though there may (or may not) be a little on flashback. Compare your book with current exams topics.
There is always the manuals to look at.

  • I have downloadded BBP study book on my Laptop at home... how do I get it on my work computer?

i downloaded the book. have it visible on my laptop at home...
I donwloaed Adobe Digital on my work PC and now how do I get the book from my private PC to work Laptop?
I watched stuff at youtube read things... nothing works...
    Thanks for useful comments.

Try to revisit the audiobook's description page on the iTunes Store and verify that it is compatible with the iPhone. Unfortunately, some less than bright authors limit the platforms their books can be loaded into. Usually limit them to iPad-only (although that would seem silly for an AUDIObook, but you never know).
If that is the case, the thing will refuse to be loaded on the iPhone.

  • Regarding OCA & Database Control

I'm preparing for the OCA exam and would like to understand better the kind of knowledge expected of me.
In my study book there are lots of examples for using Database Control in order to manage the database.
As an experienced DBA, I only seldom use GUI tools to manage the database, and know many commands by heart.
    Should I be worried?
Is there any chance that questions such as -
"What button should you press in order to change to ARCHIVELOG mode"
    - will appear in the test?

I have seen questions similar to "Where is this located at?". I would know how to navigate to key screens. The candidate guide spills out what you should know.
Personally, I don't like those type of questions cause the GUI can always change your knowledge of how to do it command line stays more constant.

  • Cisco book for beginners

There are so many Cisco books out there, which one do you recommend for someone starting out on the Cisco path?
I have the book "Cisco Intro" which is quite basic, what is the next level?

Actually, a good place to get a good basic understanding on a Cisco site:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/cisintwk/ito_doc/
This is the online version of Cisco's Internetworking book. It covers most topis at a basic level, but still gives you a good idea of how all the various technologies and protocols relate to each other.
Beyond that, most / any of the CCNA study books would be good. Which one works best for you is going to depend on you ... of the spectrum of available books, you need to find one that fits your preference.
Many people find the Todd Lammie books very good, some don't like his style of presentation. It's an individual thing.
Go to a book store when you have some spare time, read a similar chapter from several CCNA books, and decide which one works best for you.
    Good Luck

  • Oracle EJB / Persistance certification study guide

    Hello -
I'm sorry if I've asked a redundant question, if I have let me know.
I want to take the either the "Java Persistence API Developer" or "Enterprise JavaBeans Developer" certification exams from Oracle, but I'm having a hard time identifying a good study book. There used to be a couple of good books for the old Sun Web Developer exam (I recall that the O'Rielly HeadFirst series had a very nice one), but I haven't found anything for these current exams. Also, the published "Apress" makes a guide for the Oracle Java 7 exam, but doesn't seem to make one specifically targeted at the two more advanced certs I mentioned.
I've been a professional J2EE developer for 10 years now, and have used EJB, Hibernate, EJB3, etc for this entire time. I feel comfortable developing applications in this realm, I was really just looking for a well organized study guide / workbook to help prep me for the exam.

I would check out the certification descriptions on the Oracle site for further reference material as advised by Oracle itself. Likely there may be even training classes involved.

  • Consern of a newbie DBA

    Hi all
I am resuming duty as a DBA, with very little real life experience, so am feeling very inadequate. The best have done ever since i started working with oracle on my own is using select statement- quering for result. Not much of administrative tasks. Like backup and recovery, performance tuning etc. And i will be working a lot on the UNIX platform which have not seen before. Though i have very little touch with linux OS, though not installed with oracle. Just the OS.
Please what advise do you have for me, that if followed will give me confidence and eventually make me a success as a DBA, for my new organisation and ensuring the preservasion of my organisation's database.
I will really appreciate your responses.
Lastly Please can any one in the house mentor me?
    Thanks

Another thing that might get you up-to-speed somewhat quickly is Sybex's OCA / 1Z0-042 Study Guide. It's available for $35.99 at the below URL. It seems like a lot of kids in technical colleges are getting started this way. They buy a couple gigs of RAM for their personal computer, download and install Oracle 10g or Express Edition, and start working through the entry-level certifications for Oracle and for operating systems that interest them.
I don't think certifications are the answer to everything, but since they are targeted at job roles, they are a good source to get a feel for the responsibilities you will have in your new position. Like the others have said, the online Oracle documentation is hands-down the most comprehensive resource for the database part of it. My recommendation is to speed-read through the OCA study guide (about 500 pages), then to consult the online documentation for more in-depth explanations.
To get comfortable with UNIX-based systems, you probably should buy a cheap computer and install some flavor of Linux on it. Ubuntu is notoriously popular for those wanting a user-friendly introduction to the system. Buy a book that comes with an installation disc and will walk you through the installation and configuration of the system. Then consult technical documentation for further explanations.
In my experience, spending a little money up-front and setting up a lab-environment at home, even on just a single personal computer, is well-worth the investment, and makes it much easier to learn, since you can work through problems and books at home instead of counting on having "learning time" at work, and since you also to some extent do not need to worry about breaking things (if you've got a spare computer, you can always just re-install everything from scratch within a couple hours).

    Best of luck to you.

  • Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 Exams - EFFECTIVE DATE ADJUSTED!

    Hi, everyone.
Microsoft has adjusted the effective starting date of when the Windows 8.0 exams and Windows Server 2012 exams will be updated to Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 at Prometric.
The new effective date is January 28, 2014.
This means that current study materials for many of these exams remain current. You have a little extra time to pass these exams before they are updated.
Which exams specifically? Other questions? Learn more or ask questions at the following blog entry:
    http://borntolearn.mslearn.net/btl/b/weblog/archive/2014/01/09/mcsa-windows-8-and-mcsa-windows-server-2012-exams-to-be-updated-january-28-2014.aspx
    Good luck!
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

    Hi, Ken.
Unfortunately, this exam will be updated on January 28th, 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1.
It's too bad that Microsoft did not update the 70-417 exam description to tell you that. I know they
did update the exam descriptions for the other core exams, like 70-410.
    70-410
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-410.aspx
    70-417 UPGRADE
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-417.aspx
    You have three painful choices:
Just take it anyway. Know that only some of the exam questions were updated. You can also learn what they are testing you for on the exam. You may even get lucky and still pass. You do have four (4) days to cram.
Reschedule the exam while paying that $35 reschedule fee.
    Cancel the exam.
New study books will be released this spring. Here is the list from O'Reilly:
    http://search.oreilly.com/?q=%22Server+2012+R2%22+exam&x=9&y=15
Sorry that Microsoft didn't update the exam's description.  That's why I had the post turned into a sticky.
Good luck with your decision and with your exams.
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson
