Occasional freezing
Hi!
I've had the new 13" MBP for about a week now. First it was all nice. I mean, the thing really is fast, but after the dreaded EFI update strange things have started to happen. For one I could mention the low result in Xbenc HDD benchmark, but that is not an issue for me. I am, however, extremely annoyed by this strange behaviour: it doesn't matter whether I am using Safari, Adium or watching a movie in QuickTime, the computer stops responding (text input becomes impossible), shows the spinning beach ball But the cursor is still movable. This freeze lasts for approximately 10-15 seconds but is, sadly, tedious. Has anyone had such a problem or maybe someone could advise me with a possible fix. Thank you in advance!

Sadly, an Apple Store is where you need to go to get your firmware downgraded. I didn't see one when I was in Tallinn last week. However, if enough people tell AppleCare about this, you can be sure something will be done about it. So call AppleCare, tell them your situation and point them to the thread.

IMac runs slow intermittently; occasional freezes require hard restart.
Recently, my iMac (27", mid-2010, OS X 10.9.3) has begun intermittently running very slow, with occasional freezes requiring hard restarts. I've been keeping activity monitor open and notice that multiple Google Chrome Helpers open (4-5 of them) with each using 98%+ of CPU capacity. Not sure if they relate to the slow response time. They are sometimes open in the activity monitor, but response times on the iMac are normal. Then, suddenly, the iMac slows to a crawl, with 15-45 second beach balls, sometimes followed by complete freeze and crash.

Ipod Occasionally Freezes When Turned On
I'm wondering if problems I am having are being caused by the "1.2 firmware freezing problem." I got my 5th gen video Ipod after Itunes 7 was released, so I never had an earlier firmware on my ipod. My ipod does not freeze while playing music, but it occasionally freezes when I first turn it on. When this happens, I will be able to move through the menus (sometimes slowly), but when I try to play anything I hear silence. After I turn the ipod off (which sometimes doesn't work right away) and then back on I can then play audio.
Has anyone else experienced this type of freezing? I'm wondering if I should try downgrading the firmware, which has been suggested in this forum. I've already went through the factory restoration and it did not resolve the issue. Thanks a lot for the help.Nothin'?

2006 Macbook occasionally freezes upon wake up. OSX Lion
Macbook 2006 occasionally freezes upon waking up from sleep (lid-down). - screen displays desktop but keypad/trackpad don't work. I have to forcefully power down and then upon re-boot, it will work.
This problem has surfaced since I installed LION.... any ideas people?Geds,
Please start a new topic thread. I can only help one person per thread.
Lion will install on any Core2Duo Mac with 2 GB of RAM. But issues with freezing if they are present before installation of an operating system will be present after. Operating system updates do not fix freezing issues. They are either hardware issues, driver issues, or disk too full issues. For that reason you need to start your own thread so the possible issues may be isolated. -

My MacBook Air occasionally freezes since I upgrade to Lion
My MacBook Air occasionally freezes since I upgrade to Lion
I'm not sure it is the correct terminology. You turn off your MBA and turn it back on, as soon as you hear the sound you press shift for a few seconds and your MBA will "restart".

I have a MacPro 1.1 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Processor: 2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics C: ATI Radeon X1900 XT
I recently installed a new Hard Disk (2TB) purchased at Apple Retail Store.
Clean-install of OS.
Everything works fine - except, I get these occasional freezes. They are not predictable and happen randomly. I can go several days without any issues.
When it freezes, I can move the mouse and I can open folders. Music keeps playing. "Force Quit" does not work. Cannot open any applications. Have to restart using the power button.
What I have noticed is - it seems to happen when I use Safari.
I made an appointment with my local Apple Retail Store and asked them to run tests.
Result:
No Hardware issues.
Software issue suspected (possibly Intego (VirusBarrier X6) - not confirmed).
I had recently upgraded my AntiVirus Software. The apple expert thought that this could cause the issue.
I don't think that's the case.
Last time it happened, after the restart, I went to check the log file:
This is what caught my attention:
11/14/11 2:51:23 PM [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.Safari[181] 2011-11-14 14:51:23.357 PluginProcess[617:903] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz.
Could that be the problem?
Thank you,

Thackpad and left, right button below the pad occasionally freeze. I have to wait for more than one minute to move the cursor. However, the trackpoint and the buttons below the trackpoint work. Is it a hardware error?
Thanks!I have the same issue with the trackpad. Curiously, it started right after I "upgraded" to the 6/11 BIOS update. I downloaded the trackpad drivers and nothing happened, still the same issue. I also talked to Lenovo support to see if there was a way to go back to the previous BIOS version and apparently there is no way to do that.
Have you guys resolved this issue or do you know of a way to go back to the previous BIOS version?
Please let me know,
Thanks! -
My 2007 iMac runs slow and occasionally freezes on startup
Hello,
iMac overview:
iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007)
Processor: GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
OS: OS X Yosemite, 10.10.2
250 GB SATA Disk shows 154.58 GB free of 249.2 GB
I have been having the following issues with my iMac since upgrading to Mavericks, and they've persisted through to Yosemite...
Issues:
intermittent "data crunching" sound that will last for up to 10 minutes, causing active applications to stall
if I drag the cursor over the dock early during startup, the computer will freeze
if I launch an application early during startup, the computer will freeze
Mail occasionally "re-counts" and reloads the messages in my inboxes, causing Mail to stall or freeze
Any ideas? (If it's recommended that I provide more information gathered from Terminal, I'll need clear instructions.)
Thank youSlow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Your model has upgradable memory. Install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts. -
Multi tasking button occasionally freezes, video is totally not working
while I was playing iTunU movie re WWII, suddenly my Video gone! Till to day no way am being able to recover it. While clik, it just appears and turned to black. Any solution?
Further while changing my work station, the multitasking button freezes occasionally. Some tmes it is so irritating, why I don,t know!
I am iPad I users,In which case I'd add all the slates to the track and use stories to set them apart. If you want to script this then you would set up the menu buttons to go to a script which sets th audio correctly and then jumps to the correct slate, which then goes on to the track. Alternatively, your slates could 'end jump' to a script to set the audio and then go to the track - this would probably be better since the slates are all different and it would be a single script for each to jump to - keeps it tidy.
There will be small pauses between the menu, slate and track if you go with this system, but no pauses between slate and track if you add the slates to the track. -
Nokia communication centre occasionally freezes on...
Hello,
I have a nokia 3310 classic and am using windows vista SP1, I have version 7.1.30.9 of pc suite.
Sometimes when I receive a message on my cellphone, communication centre just freezes. This happens with both bluetooth and usb cable connection.
Usually after a while, after I have read the message on my cellphone itself, it just starts working again. I have noticed no repeating trigger whatsoever.
Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this?
The strange thing is that there seems to be no clear trigger which is causing the program to freeze, nor any error message. Also it is very strange that it only happens occasionally, other times it seems to work just fine.
All suggestions are welcome!
Greetings,

I dont see that Nokia are proactive in resolving the issues through this forum. Im just trying my luck here.
Would be greatful if I get some help here. -
I have 10.6.8 on my iMAC. I have been shutting down my iMAC partly because I often get freezes a few seconds after the mac wakes. The freezes also occur at random. There is seldom any way to shut down the MAC except by pulling the power cord, though very rarely I am able to finally achieve a normal shutdown. I have tried fixing permissions as well starting in Safe Mode, and while these seemed to help at first, they no longer seem to have any affect.
I thought that maybe I got some kind of virus/trojan/etc., but from what I have read here that very likely is not the case.
I have also read here that the issue could be "hardware." Does this mean things like my printer or external speaker, or external hardrive? or does it mean the hardware of the computer itself? I have read about a "Hardware Test." Does this "Apple Hardware Test" have a benefit here in figuring out the problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions? I certainly can't keep 'pulling the plug,' and I know now from these discussions that shutting down (vs. sleep) on a regular basis is not best either for the imac. (I am loathe to upgrade to LION until I get this problem resolved, though, interestingly, I seem to see that a number of LION folks have the same or similar problem.)FussGus,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What periherals, especially USB ones, do you have attached to your Mac? Does the problem persist with everything other than the Apple keyboard and mouse disconnected?
Does the problem persist if you Start Up in Safe Mode? If so, check what items are in /Library/StartupItems and /Library/PreferencePanes.
As generic advice for sleep-related issues:
For a Mac OS X with sleep problems (file names and locations are for 10.4.x):
-- trash /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-- trash /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
-- reboot while resetting PRAM (restaqrt while holding down command-option-p-r until you hear three sets of chimes, then release the keys)
While not directly related, since your wakes before freezing, also refer to Computer Will Not Wake From Sleep -
X11 and Intel graphics – occasional freeze with recent drivers.
Hi guys,
Has anyone else experienced a noticeable freeze (lasting between a fraction of a second to several seconds) in X11 with xf86-video-intel on an up-to-date Arch install? This seems more noticeable on less-powerful hardware, particularly my Netbook!
The multi-system emulator Retroarch really used to perform well (i.e. sustained smooth scrolling) under Arch, but now seems to lock up for a moment every 10-20 seconds. This only happens in full-screen mode with vsync enabled and it is NOT the emulator that is at fault. I have an older Arch install on a USB stick that works fine with the current build of Retroarch. Very strange indeed.
I know there isn't a lot of information here in terms of package versions, but I wanted to put the feelers out before I start churning through older versions of xf86-video-intel and X11 packages to narrow down the point at which this started. This behaviour was introduced in xf86-video-intel-2.99.912-1. With the previous package - xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz - this did not occur.
EDIT: could this be related? :
