OCDM - Sample Report Installation issue - Runs too longer with No progress

Hello,
As a part of OCDM environment setup for Practice we were successful installing following :
* Supported Enterprise Linux
* Oracle DB 11g R2 (OLAP & MINING option)
* OWB was already installed as a part of Oracle DB 11gR2 - just unlocked the OWB accounts.
* Installed OBIEE 11g R2 installation - Installation successful and able to open url's. (analytics and BI Publisher etc.) - Issue with login account.
* Installation of Communication Data Model (First Installation type from OCDM Installer)
When we try to install Sample Reports at same stage the screen remain open and runs too longer with No progress.
The Installation process for OCDM Sample Reports is given in the attached doc with screenshot and the log file is also included in the attached document.
Please let us know the following two issue:
1) How to login to Analytics after OBIEE 11gR2 installed on Linux - ( in our case we use user as Administrator and tried password same as username, even checked with the user weblogic and other but no success. Please provide us the information which give details(document) about the Administartion of OBIEE 11gR2 on Linux).
2) The issue with installation of OCDM Sampple Reports though successful installation of OCDM Data Model.(First Installation Type from OCDM Installer)

The current OCDM version does not support BIEE 11g, so you need to install BIEE 10g. In next release(will be available soon), OCDM will support BIEE 11g.
2) The issue with installation of OCDM Sampple Reports though successful installation of OCDM Data Model.(First Installation Type from OCDM Installer)
The importing will take a long time, you can login database with ocdm_sample_sys/ocdm_sample_sys, and use "select count(*) from tabs;" to monitor the import process.

BBP_GET_STATUS_2 running too long

the program BBP_GET_STATUS_2 is running too long , even for little number of records also .
how can we speeed up the process .

Hi Venga,
maybe the note 1115597 could help as well. Depending on your release there are BBP_GET_STATUS_2 notes also notes for the backend system:

If they don't help, the issue should be analysed by performance trace.

Scripts run too long. Can I set limit?

On some websites I get the firefox msg that a script is running too long and do I want to stop it. I would like to shorten the time it take to give me that message.

We are facing “ORA-01704: string literal too long" with Usage Tracking in OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 environment and as per Doc ID 1274586.1 we upgraded the environment to 11.1.1.6.12. But still the issue is not resolved.

I would like to understand why during loads we were no able to run those select statements, statspack schedule snapshot reports were not able to finish, also automatic
database statistics... why 5 for update statements locked the whole DB?

Xl reporter installation issues

First please accept my apologies because I know this question has been asked but I haven't found the answers I needed. .
I have got 90 % of the XL reporter installation not working. In that 90 %, I have
- half issues with a missing COM module in Excel and a user with full admin right to the computer. Usually one of the multiple users in the computer
- half issues where XL reporter cannot load due to a DLL problem (but doesn't say what problem). This is during the initial load
I have tried full reinstall of B1 + excel + cleaning the %temp% folder. How can I get that software to work ? This is the most instable piece of code I have ever seen (and I have seen some bad).

Can the fan break from running too long?

Yesterday I had a high-energy application running on my 13'' MacBook Pro Retina for a good five hours straight. I've used this application a couple times, but never for this long; the fan always runs with this application. Needless to say, the fan was running pretty loud for a while and the MacBook got pretty hot. Today, I launched the same application and the fan is noticeably a lot quieter. Also, the application seems to run a bit slower with some hiccups, wheras before it had run seamlessly. Is it possible I somehow damaged the fan by running the application too long?

It's possible for a fan to burnout. Apple store can replace, not too epensive, you may be able to find online if you do not have isues pulling the MBP apart. How to vids online as well.

MTU error (Path too long) with linux-3.6.2

I have a PC running 24/7, with an OpenVPN connection up all the time as well. I also have a (shared) ssh connection open, through said vpn. Every night an rsync job is ran, to backup some stuff over said VPN, through a shared ssh connection.
Starting a few days ago (Oct 17) I've had trouble with this, as in after rsync started, it would not be able to finish its job, getting "interrupted" (or, hanged) quite early on.
Looking in the journal, I can see error messages such as those (right after rsync starts, which happens at 02:23) :

This eventually led to the ssh connection timing out, and the rsync job failing to complete.
Also, restarting OpenVPN seems to "fix" the issue, without the need to change any settings.
That's when I realized this started happening since upgrading the kernel to 3.6.2, so I then downgraded to 3.5.6 (Oct 19) and, since then, haven't had any issue.
So I'm thinking this is some kind of bug/regression in the 3.6 kernel, but I'm not really sure what to do now.
Note: I see 3.6.3 is out (and in testing), but only looked at the changelog so far (and didn't see anything that seem related to this issue?).

I'm not sure how to read the error message actually, but I use default settings and `ip addr show` reports a MTU of 1500 indeed. Also, (on linux-3.6.2) I tried using OpenVPN's --mtu-test option to see what it would say (even though early on I never have a problem), and here it is:
NOTE: Empirical MTU test completed [Tried,Actual] local->remote=[1541,1541] remote->local=[1541,1541]
I'm nor really sure what it means, that I could (should?) use 1541 instead of 1500? And if so, how come it says I could go higher while I get errors with Path-MTU=1460 ? And actually, right before this result I do have a couple of those Path-MTU errors in the log, so I really don't know what to make of it, could it fail at 1460 but work higher? Does that even make sense?
I still don't know if it's really an MTU issue or not, since the kernel 3.5.6 isn't affected. Anyhow, I'll probably install 3.6.3 and see, hopefully it'll be back to normal.... if not I guess I'll have to try and set an MTU, though I'm not sure to what.
Also, would that require the OpenVPN server to have its MTU set that way as well (Since currently it also uses default settings, so MTU 1500) ?

ORA-01704:String literal too long with update of more than 4000 chars

Hi,
I want to update a table column in Oracle Database(version 10) with more than 4000 chars.
The datatype of the table column is NCLOB.
I want to achieve this with one single line of update query as below,
update mytable set MY_DESCRIPTION = 'longdesc' where ID = '111' ;
But there's a problem, if the 'longdesc' is more than 4000 chars, it gives the error , "ORA-01704:String literal too long"
How can I achieve this in sql developer ?
I dont want to do this using stored procedures, I want to do this update using only sql statement.
Please help.

Hello Sudhakar,
I am afraid, this will never work by SQL.
Just because an SQL-Statement must not contain a string literal over 4,000 characters (or did that change lately?).
Maybe you can bypass the limit with PL/SQL ... but you will certainly run into the 32K limit sooner or later

Connecting to the db is taking too long with Shared Servers connection

DB: 2-node RAC Oracle 11.2.0.3.5
After doing a migration of a 40GBs database from a 9i database to a 11g database, it's takin too long to connect to the db, which is using shared server. In the moment, there aren't any applications using the db, just myself. Doing some tests, i saw that when i use a dedicated connection, i can connect almost instantly, but using the shared connection, it takes almost 4 seconds to connect, via sqlplus. Sample Report: Sales per Customer by Period - WITH QUANTITIES

I am trying to make some modifications to the 'Sales per Customer by Period' sample report, but am having problems. I want it to be YTD and comparative, so YTD-12. That part was easy enough. Then I wanted to add the quanty. So i want the report to show the sales amount and quantity for each customer, ytd and prior year ytd. This seemed easy enough also, until I looked further into the data. It doesn't match up with reports from Business One. The problem seems to be my items that are packs, like an item that is sold in packs of 10. If the invoice has 10 10 Packs on an invoice, my report shows a quantity of 10. The SBO report shows it as a quantity of 100 (10x10). I have tried to add Item level stuff, so I could go get the 'Items per Sales Unit' value and multiply it by the quantity. When I do this the report crashes.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone created a report like this? Any help would be appreciated.

Pages' first page "Templates" is too long with buttons inaccessible

When launching Pages (version 3.0.1), the top page that appears is the template page. It is always too long, going all the way to the bottom of the screen. The choices and buttons at the bottom of the template page are behind the dock and cannot be read or accessed for clicking. I tried hiding the dock and then shrinking the template window upward so that the choices were above the dock, and then showing the dock again. Unfortunately, the next time I launched Pages, the top Template window opened up too long again with the bottom of the page unaccessible behind the dock. This problem does not happen with Numbers or Keynote--the template pages in these applications are always sized just right--above the dock. Any ideas why this is happening and how to permanently fix it?

Reports6i reports fail to run when used with parameters

Hi there,
I have successfully got reports 6i integrated with Portal. I can expose a report into a content area and run it as type HTMLCSS etc.
However, when I change the report component to use the parameters it all goes wrong. I have added the user parameters in my report in the portal report definition 'edit' settings and made them visible via the customize option. I have then edited the properties for the item in the content area and turned on the parameter form.
When I click on the item to run the report the parameter screen is displayed (with unfriendly P_PARAM_1 style titles which I would also like to change) and I enter the values and run the report. It bombs out with:

The parameter form in Reports works fine. Do I need to change anything for web based parameter forms?

Ok, got it working by ensuring that I have displayed the DESFORMAT to the parameter screen. Weird! Must you always display System Parameters?
I would still like to change the parameter titles on the parameter screen. Can this be done?
