OCE Linux publishing a Oracle book

Dear Oracle fellows
I have written a exam preparation book for the Oracle Linux OCE exam.
Can somebody tell me how I can publish that book via an oracle editor?
Please help me on that process.
Any feedback of that experience will be highly appreciated.
thanks

Hi deepakbhatnagar
Well I have got a sad reply from Oracle Press that they can't publish the OCE books at the moment. (May be some of the much more routined writers that are working for that publisher have it already on schedule).
I wrote also guide on OCE RAC and publish it internally in my company knowledge database.
I have tried to get intouch with rampant but they didn't take my request seriously as it is couples of weeks that I haven't got any answer.
Sorry for those bad news.
May be we should try to work together on getting our stuff published?

  • Problem calling XML Report Publisher from Oracle Reports

    Hi,
    I'm facing a problem in calling XML Report Publisher from Oracle Reports.
    Basically, I'm trying to customise Dunning Letter program. The program which is submitted calls another program. I have customised the second program and added a call to a stored procedure which in turn calls XML Report Publisher.I have created a template and attached it to the second program as well.
    The procedure code is as follows.
    v_request_id := FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST(application => 'AR'
    ,program => 'ARDLP_NON_SRS'
    ,description => 'Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate'
    ,sub_request => FALSE
    l_status := fnd_concurrent.WAIT_FOR_REQUEST
    ( REQUEST_ID => v_request_id,
    INTERVAL => 15,
    MAX_WAIT => 180,
    PHASE => l_phase,
    STATUS => l_status_code,
    DEV_PHASE => l_dev_phase,
    DEV_STATUS => l_dev_status,
    MESSAGE => l_message );
    v_xml_req_id := FND_REQUEST.submit_request(application => 'XDO',
    program => 'XDOREPPB',
              argument1 => v_request_id,
    argument2 => 'FLS DE AR Dunning Letter Print - German',
    argument3 => 603, -- changed 665 -- was 551,
    argument4     => NULL,
    argument5 => 'N',
    argument6     => 'RTF',
              argument7     => 'PDF');
    Now, there are two problems I'm facing...
    1. when the second program('Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate') gets called it executes this procedure ... logically the 'Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate' should get called twice ... second time from the procedure. Its getting called multiple times .. as many as 15 - 20 times.
    2. The Xml Report Publisher program ultimately gets called but its erroring out with the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: No corresponding LOB data found :SELECT L.FILE_DATA FILE_DATA, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(L.FILE_DATA) FILE_LENGTH, L.LANGUAGE LANGUAGE, L.TERRITORY TERRITORY, B.DEFAULT_LANGUAGE DEFAULT_LANGUAGE, B.DEFAULT_TERRITORY DEFAULT_TERRITORY,B.TEMPLATE_TYPE_CODE TEMPLATE_TYPE_CODE, B.USE_ALIAS_TABLE USE_ALIAS_TABLE, B.START_DATE START_DATE, B.END_DATE END_DATE, B.TEMPLATE_STATUS TEMPLATE_STATUS, B.USE_ALIAS_TABLE USE_ALIAS_TABLE, B.DS_APP_SHORT_NAME DS_APP_SHORT_NAME, B.DATA_SOURCE_CODE DATA_SOURCE_CODE, L.LOB_TYPE LOB_TYPE FROM XDO_LOBS L, XDO_TEMPLATES_B B WHERE (L.LOB_TYPE = 'TEMPLATE' OR L.LOB_TYPE = 'MLS_TEMPLATE') AND L.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME= :1 AND L.LOB_CODE = :2 AND L.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME = B.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME AND L.LOB_CODE = B.TEMPLATE_CODE AND ( (L.LANGUAGE = :3 AND L.TERRITORY = :4 ) OR (L.LANGUAGE = :5 AND L.TERRITORY = :6) OR (L.LANGUAGE= B.DEFAULT_LANGUAGE AND L.TERRITORY= B.DEFAULT_TERRITORY ) )
    I have checked from database that the XDO_LOBS/ XDO_TEMPLATES_B table has corresponding registration data.
    I don't know what's creating the problem.
    If anyone has customised the Dunning Letter program before or having any idea about this problem, please help me out ..
    Thanks

    satrajit,

    Is it required to have a website url to publish a paid book using ibooks author?

    A "website" can be very easily created and at no cost.
    I suggest Facebook can cater for  "feedback"  and "product support" although  Wordpress and  other similar blog sites offer a free service which is suffiecient for the purpose and a free /default page template makes it fairly easy  for anybody without knowledge of HTML or CSS - to create a page and  learn to add in much more.

  • Integration of Oracle BI Publisher with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterp

    Hi,
    I have started the tutorial " Integration of Oracle BI Publisher with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterp" today but got stuck at the very first step.
    The tutorial shows that I can see "SH" and "CountryManagers" in the shared folder but I only see the Paint Demo rpd.
    I previously completed the "Creating a Repository Using the Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Tool " tutorial.
    Do I need to learn anything prior to this tutorial .
    I already have the default rpd as SH in NQSConfig.ini
    Please suggest.
    Thanks

    Nico,
    That didnt help.
    I already have the
    Star = SH.rpd, default; set
    I have tried restarting OC4J and Oracle BI Server.
    Is there someplace where we need to put the rpd so that it appears in the shared folders.
    Even if the Paint Demo rpd is seen, when I try to view the reports I get the following errors:

  • Mistake in Oracle book ?

    Hi. In Oracle books 10g Certification All in One Exam Guide I found propably a bad answear for one of a review questions. The question was : Which line of code will cause the following SQL statement to fail ?
    1 Create bigfile tablespace ocp10gdata
    2 datafile 'oracle/ocp10gdata/ocp10gdata02.dbf'
    3 extent management local
    4 freelists 5
    5 nologging;
    The Answer provided by the author is that line number 4 provide the error. Which is write but there is another error namely there is no size of the datafile. So the write questions should be that line number 2 and 4 provide the error.
    Is it correct ?

    The fact that there might be a mistake is not surprising. Many of the 'certification practice' books (for any software product) have errors.
    The best thing to do here is to look at the Oracle documentation (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7003.htm#i2231734) and check, followed by actually testing.
    In this case, you are correct - either the size or the 'reuse' clause is required when specifying the filename in a non-OMF situation.
    That said, I do not think Oracle is responsible for the book. <g>

  • Oracle on Linux vs. Oracle on NT (Performance)

    Does someone have information about some benchmarks studies of Oracle on Linux vs. Oracle on NT?
    Thanks so much,
    Andre

    I looked at this for a data warehouse project. Same hardware (multi-boot) with various Linux distros (Red Hat, SuSE, and Mandrake) vs. NT4. Loaded the same data in all configurations.
    Results: performance was better on all Linuxen that I tested than it was on NT, but not a big enough difference to choose on this basis alone.
    I did, however, see that all the Linux variations were MUCH more stable than NT. I do almost all my development on a Linux server now, just because I got tired of rebooting NT every time my mouse moved. However, thus far most of the production with this warehouse is still being done on NT--so it CAN be made to work, I just don't understand why anybody wants to do it the hard way.
    Subjectively, I thought Red Hat was the most inconvenient Linux to work with, SuSE was easy, and Mandrake was nice but it wasn't officially supported by Oracle. I've also had good experiences with SuSE support, but Red Hat support just ignored me. That's just me; I don't know how others have fared with the various support departments.
    I did this about a year ago, so it was 8.1.6 Oracle and whatever Linux versions were current at the time (all had 2.2.* kernels); I have not revisited this with 9i and the only Linux distribution I'm using now is SuSE 7.2.

  • Does Linux filesystem undermine Oracle's recovery mechanism?

    I've been an Oracle DBA for 10 years and have been using Oracle
    on Linux for several months, but am not a Linux expert by any
    means. A client told me something about the filesystem Linux uses
    (x2?) that I find hard to believe. Can anyone shed some light on
    this?
    The claim is that the Linux filesystem does not implement
    synchronous writes correctly. The implication is that when a user
    commits a transaction and Oracle flushes the redo log to disk,
    Oracle may think the redo information has been successfully
    written when in fact its still sitting in a buffer somewhere
    waiting to write. If a drive failure occurs, the redo might never
    get written, but meanwhile the user has already been informed
    their transaction has been committed.
    Oracle does not flush data block buffers to disk when you commit
    a transaction. Only the redo is flushed. If the instance were to
    fail, Oracle reads the redo when you restart the instance and
    performs instance recovery automatically.
    If the Linux filesystem does not implement synchronous writes
    legitimately, then the recovery mechanisms in Oracle are
    compromised--indeed a successful commit is not a guarantee of
    data permanence.
    Its hard to believe that this could be true; I don't see how
    Oracle Corporation could put so much effort into porting their
    flagship products to Linux if data permanence cannot be
    guaranteed.
    Is my client mistaken in their understanding of the Linux
    filesystem? Any insights from the Linux gurus out there would be
    gratefully appreciated!

    The problem doesn't lie with Linux - fsync() and O_SYNC are
    supported and, AFAIK, behave correctly.
    The problem is that Oracle doesn't appear to use them. The redo
    logs arnt fsync'ed on commit, nor do they appear to be opened
    with O_SYNC.
    Data loss will result, as you point out, if the RDBMS doesn't
    tell the operating system to save the data synchronously.
    Play with strace()ing the RDBMS background processes and confirm
    this for yourself.
    I'm not in a position to progress this with Oracle. Someone,
    obviously, should, otherwise the next article on ZDNet could be
    "Linux causes massive Oracle dataloss"..

  • Integrating Oracle BI Publisher with Oracle Single Sign-on security.

    I am trying to integrate BI Publisher with Oracle Single Sign-on running on a different machine.
    The BI Publisher is installed with an Oracle application server 10.3.1 (includes a HTTP server). These are the steps I followed:
    1) Registered BI publisher as a partner application in the Oracle SSO admin console which generated a single sign-off url.
    2) Made the required modifications in the mod_osso.xml config file.
    3) On the BI publisher admin page went to the securities tab and opted the SSO security and entered the single sign-off url generated in the previous step.
    4) Restarted the Oracle ID mgt infrastructure and the BI pub server.
    The BI pub login is not getting redirected to the SSO page.
    Please let me know as what is that I am missing. I've been cracking my head with this for quite long - any help will be highly appreciated.

    APEX is only using BI Publisher to transform the XML data of your report and the template you provide into PDF, Word or Excel. For this, APEX sends the XML data and the template to BI Publisher, and BI Publisher sends back to completed document. So there's nothing stored in BI Publisher, all templates, report definitions, etc are stored in the APEX schema. This has the advantage that you can reference item values and other information in your print documents, and it also ensures that you don't have to access the database again from within BI Publisher, i.e. you don't need to communicate any authentication information to BI Publisher.
    Of course BI Publisher itself also provide the ability to store reports and to store templates. But those are not accessible from APEX through the built-in integration. You can however use the same templates you use for BI Publisher directly on load them into APEX for use there.
    Lastly, if you want to use and print reports in both BI Publisher and your APEX applications, you can do that through web services, take a look at Tyler Muth's BLOG for more information on this topic:
    http://tylermuth.wordpress.com/2008/03/31/call-bi-publisher-web-services-from-apex/

  • Can I print/publish/sell my book if I buy an Adobe license for Helvetica?

    Hello,
    I'm wanting to self-publish a print book using the Helvetica™ Neue Std Ultra Light font which I can purchase the license for its use from the Adobe store. I'm just learning about licenses and commercial use, trying to get my head around it all. So, if I buy the license for this font through Adobe, does that mean I can publish/print my book and sell these books?
    From what I can gather, all Adobe fonts whether those that come with the bundle or those that a license is bought for through the store, are allowed to be used for commercial use. Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that this is all good for web and video stuff but I just wanted to see if it was okay for the printing and selling of novels? I'm being pedantic but just want to be really explicit about these details so I don't have to worry about this legal stuff later.
    Also, if this is the case, then does that mean I can use any font that already comes with adobe in a book and sell the book? E.g. Segoe print, arial unicode ms, freestyle script, etc. All of them, really. Specifically, I'm using InDesign to create my books and want to use the fonts it comes with to save money if that's possible.
    Any hep would be great!
    Thanks heaps.

    Oh, cool. Thanks for that - very helpful.
    Okay, so was wondering if you could take a look at this:
    "Embedding Font Software and Representations of Typeface and Typographic Designs and Ornaments. You may embed the Font Software only into an electronic document that is not a Commercial Product, (ii) is distributed in a secure format that does not permit the extraction of the embedded Font Software, and (iii) in the case where a recipient of an electronic document is able to Use the Font Software for editing, only if the recipient of such document is within your Licensed Unit.
    You may embed static graphic images into an electronic document, including a Commercial Product, (for example, a “gif”) with a representation of a typeface and typographic design or ornament created with the Font Software as long as such images are not used as a replacement for Font Software, i.e. as long as the representations do not correspond to individual glyphs of the Font Software and may not be individually addressed by the document to render such designs and ornaments."
    It's the only part in the EULA where it refers to commercial use so I'm hoping I'm looking in the right place. The language used doesn't help me all that much since I get confused not knowing if it means the actual software and/or the font itself printed on a page.
    From the above, does it look like I can safely print and sell books if I agreed to the terms in this license and bought it? Or do I need more info before making a call?
    Thanks heaps.
