OCI8 JDBC driver causes memory violation

I'm trying to use the oci8 JDBC driver (under NT) and I'm sure it
used to work but when I try it now I just get a windows memory
error showing up in a dialog (the memory could not be "read"
thing). Any ideas what's cuasing this?

Looks like this is a thread safety issue. Other parts of the application were not synchronizing on the connection; adding the synchronization fixed the problem.

    Hi Owen,
    You may have to get the latest patchset from oracle for your OCI client
    libraries. You should talk to Oracle support about this problem as the core
    dump is due to Oracle's driver.

  • Oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CPreparedStatement causing out of memory exception

    I am using oracle spatial 11.2.0.3 g.
    I am getting out of memory exception on a process.
    I analyzed the heap dump using OOMemory analyzer and figured out  oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CPreparedStatement keeping 73%  of the heap space.
    Is oracle expanding the SPARQL queries in java side or keeping the results in cache.
    How to solve it ?

    Hi,
    We will need a re-producible test case (preferably small) to figure out why you are getting out of memory. You can send it to Oracle Support or email me at alan dot wu at oracle dot com.
    Jena Adapter does not cache SPARQL query results on the Java side. The T4CPreparedStatement is not even in Jena Adapter's
    code path or RDF's code path.
    Thanks,
    Zhe Wu

  • 9i jdbc driver change causes problems

    Hello all,
    I was wondering if anyone had any problems with jdbc when migrating to oracle 9i. We are using timestamps from java which were mapped to dates. In oracle there is a function which takes a date. Now this won't work anymore as the mapping changed. Question is, did anyone use the V8Compatibility flag before? I tried it and it doesn't seem to work. When looking at the jdbc implementation it seems to me that something is not implemented yet.
    Any feedback?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rein

  • How to find out the cause of "Cannot create JDBC driver"?

    A small Java web application constantly runs into a problem of "Cannot of create JDBC driver of class 'org.postgresql.Driver' for connect URL 'jdbc:postgresl://localhost:5432/myapp'". The problem still exists after upgrading the driver. After recycling the server, this problem will be resolved. It, however, will come back after a while.
    Any suggestions to solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot.

    However since it is an intermittent problem there are only two possibilities
    1. You have some code that is written correctly and some that is not.
    2. It is a resource not code usage problem. Such as that you are not closing all result sets, statements and connections.Here is related log messages:

I should ask the Hibernate crowd about this issue. The Hibernate forum is still down at this moment.

    Most likely, the OCI libraries could not be loaded.
    Before continuing down this path, is there any reason
    why you want to use an OCI based Driver as opposed to the
    all Java Oracle thin driver ?There is indeed a valid reason for my choice.
    I am currently connecting to the Oracle "Rdb" 7.0 database (located on
    VMS) - not Oracle Oracle.
    The SQL Service software we're currently using is version 7.1. This
    version works well with the OCI8 driver (when connecting to the
    database from Windows NT). This version of SQL Service however does
    NOT work for the THIN driver (unless we upgrade the SQL Service to
    version 7.1.5.5 - which we're not prepared to do so because it is not
    stable enough from our previous test/trials). SQLSRV Version 7.1.5.5
    works for THIN driver but it will result in uncommitted
    transactions/unresolved connection/stopping of listener issues and
    there is a need to restart the service from time to time. Oracle has
    since confirmed that this is a bug that they have yet to resolve...
    So we have to stick to OCI8 (THICK) for the time being. I would really
    appreciate it very much if you can tell me the various OCI libraries
    that I need to load (in terms of WebLogic Server config file settings
    etc..).
    By the way I have already installed the Oracle 8 client software on
    the NT server (where WebLogic Server is) and I have also set up the
    relevant SID (using the Net8 Assistant) that points to the Oracle Rdb
    database on the VMS. I have also tried using SQL*Plus to connect to
    the database and I can connect properly to the database. But WebLogic
    simply doesn't seem to load the software.
    Help...

  • Problems when using absolute() on Oracle JDBC driver

    Hi all,
    I wrote some codes using JDBC to access a remote Oracle server. After got the resultset, I attempted to use absolute() method to move to a specific row index and got an error. Could anyone please help me to find out the cause and the solution?
    Thanks in advanced,
    ** We have used driver package jdbc/lib/classes.zip in ORACLE 8.1.7
    ** The total of records in HEFKE000 table > 1000;
    ** The coding is following:
    String url = null;
    Connection conn = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    String query = "select * from HEFKE000";
    String dbName = "HE_MI";
    String hostName = "NTTD";
    String userName = "HOKEN";
    String passWord = "manager";
    String dbDriver = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    //Load the Driver
    Class.forName(dbDriver);
    //get connection
    url = "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@NTTD";
    //url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + hostName + ":1521:" + dbName;
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, passWord);
    // It's faster when you don't commit automatically
    conn.setAutoCommit (false);
    // Create a Statement object so we can submit
    // SQL statements to the driver
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    // Submit a query, creating a ResultSet object
    rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
    // Get the ResultSetMetaData. This will be used for the column headings
    ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData ();
    // Get the number of columns in the result set
    int numCols = rsmd.getColumnCount ();
    int i;
    if (rs.next() == rs.isFirst()) {
    rs.absolute(100);
    boolean more = rs.next ();
    while (more) {
    // Loop through each column, getting the
    // column data and displaying
    for (i=1; i<=numCols; i++) {
    if (i > 1) {
    System.out.print("|");
    if (rs.getString(i) == null)
    System.out.print("");
    else
         System.out.print(rs.getString(i));
    output.println();
    // Fetch the next result set row
    more = rs.next ();
    ** The error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: Invalid operation for forward
    only resultset : absolute

    Thanks. However, after changed the codes as your suggestion and ran again, I got the following error:
    Exception:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    <<no stack trace available>>
    A note is that, the 'select * from HEFKE000' statement would get around 1,5 millions of records. So, the 'out of memory' above is for client side or for server side?
    Thanks,

    Ted,
    When I connect to the Derby database in Eclipse using the embedded driver, I can successfully drag and drop tables to create a report. This driver uses the derby.jar file and has no package sealing violations popping up.
    <br/>
    <br/>
    When specifying a driver for a new derby database in Eclipse, the default Derby client driver expects to use the derbyclient.jar driver file. If I only specify this as the driver file this is the error I get:

    The error I initially posted resulted after I added the derby.jar as a driver file in addition to the derbyclient.jar, which I don't think is supposed to be done now that I am thinking about it, but I did it because of the class not found exception above. Is this perhaps simply a bug that it is trying to utilize the derby.jar embedded driver when the client driver should be used instead? Or am I doing something wrong myself?

    Thank you for your help.

    Embedded OC4J startup time: 29125 ms.

    I did what Manu suggested with no success. Alternatively, I registered the driver jar with embedded OC4J preferences > global > libraries. Still does not work. Please, note, that when I run JUnit tests against my BC4J application modules with JDBC URL as connection type, everything works just fine. The problem comes while running the JSF application when the application module is using JDBC DataSource as connection type.

    I use Java Web Service Developer Pack 1.0 on Win98 SE, database Oracle 8.1.7 is installed on dedicated IBM server (AIX 4.x).
    I put these lines in autoexec.bat:
    set PATH=C:\Perl\bin\;"C:\j2sdk1.4.0\bin";%PATH%
    set CLASSPATH=.;C:\j2sdk1.4.0\lib\tools.jar;C:\j2sdk1.4.0\lib\classes12.zip;C:\j2sdk1.4.0\lib\classes111.zip;%CLASSPATH%

    set JAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.0

    I have the same problem. I created a JSP page that uses a class to retrieve database information. I added a main method to the class so I would be able to test it. When I test the class using the main method the method returns all the information from the database. When I try it using Tomcat, I get the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdbc/driver/OracleDriver
    Does anyone have an idea of what is going on?
    My CLASSPATH configuration is the same.

  • CF 10 getting random resets : Detail: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]A problem occurred when attempting to contact the server (Server returned: Connection reset).

      These resets appear to coincide with a clearing of the cached queries for the DSN from memory, breaking all my sub queries that try to use the initial cached one.  I am grasping at straws to discover the reset culprit, the DSN tests always show OK, there is not packet loss at the switch level.  If anyone has some suggestions, I am all ears!
      The resets are completely random and under no load.  My sql 2008 r2 box is set to unlimited connections.
    An example of a DSN setup is :
    Maintain Connections [x]
    String Format [ ]
    Max Pooled Statements 100
    Timeout 20 Interval 7
    Query Timeout 0
    Login Timeout 30
    CLOB [ ]
    BLOB [ ]
    Long Text Buffer 64000
    Blob Buffer 64000
    Validate Connection [ ]
    I am running the following :
    CF Enterprise 10,0,13,287689
    Tomcat 7.0.23.0
    Ubuntu 1204 x64
    Java VM 20.4-b02
    Java 1.6 (Sun Microsystems Inc)
      I have seen it suggested to uncheck the maintain connections advanced options but this doesn't seem like a good approach to the problem and will cause more stress on the sql box IMHO.
      I have also seen it suggested to enable Validate Connection but documentation on this is a bit sparse...
    Here are more examples of the initial reset error and then the subsequent cache related errors :

    Can only 'guess' since the code is missing that shows how the connection and statement instances are being created, pooled and used.
    Your code is not setting the 'wait' option for the dequeue and the default is DEQUEUE_WAIT_FOREVER for a message. So my 'guess' is that an instance of the code you show is 'waiting' for a message and keeping it's connection and statement open and then another thread is trying to use that connection and it is locked or another thread is trying to shutdown the application when the problem appears.
    See Dequeuing Messages in the JDBC Developer's Guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/streamsaq.htm#BABJGBBA
    >
    •Wait: Specifies the wait time for the dequeue operation, if none of the messages matches the search criteria. The default value is DEQUEUE_WAIT_FOREVER indicating that the operation waits forever. If set to DEQUEUE_NO_WAIT, then the operation does not wait. If a number is specified, then the dequeue operation waits for the specified number of seconds.
    >
    Try setting the 'wait' option to DEQUEUE_NO_WAIT or to a number of seconds and see if the problem reoccurs.
    NOTE: If this problem is occuring because another thread is trying to use this same connection when it is locked it probably means you have a problem in your connection pooling code since it would mean the connection pool is allowing another thread to use a connection that is already being used.

    Hi Douglass,
    The evaluation version of Cloudscape is limited to one concurrent user
    per session,
    so only one instance of cloudscape can be running at a time. The problem
    reported
    here can occur if you try to run more than once instance of any product
    that
    uses Cloudscape -- including WLS or Cloudview. This evaluation version
    of Cloudscape
    is intended for test purposes only.
    This error can also occur on Solaris if you stop the server using ctrl-C
    or ctrl-D,
    which causes a database lock to remain in place after the server has
    stopped.
    You can get rid of it by deleting $BEA_HOME/wlserver6.1/samples/eval/cloudscape/data/demo/db.lck
    The safest way to stop the server is to use the Admin console or the
    SHUTDOWN
    command from the command line.

  • Problem with Java 5 and Oracle 10g JDBC driver

    Hi All,
    Currently we upgrade our web application to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. And we encountered a bug, when the user entered the information through UI and data didn't store into database (Oracle 9i). The problem is that this bug is not happend so often maybe once a day and this did not happen before we upgraded to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. Does anyone encounter the same problem ? Is this Java 5 problem or Oracle JDBC driver problem ?
    Thanks,

    sounds like a database problem...
    Are you using a driver version that's supported for your database engine?
    What else did you change? We once ran into a major bug in our application that had for 5 years been masked by performance problems in our hardware and infrastructure.
    Once those were resolved the bug showed itself and caused tens of thousands of records to be erroneously inserted into our database every day.
    It's certainly NOT a problem with your JVM (if it's a decent one, like the Sun implementation).
    So it's either your database, your driver, your network (dropping packets???), or your application.
    The upgrade may just have exposed something that was already there.
