OCM exam and Oracle employee

Dears,
Could you pls let me know, if it is reality that, Oracle Employee does not pay for exam fees, including accommodation and travel fees and all of these expenses will be covered by ORACLE?
Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your time. It's false. To my understanding, they only can claim the tuition of expense and exam fee for one time. Once the claim became valid, they should work for their employer and not resign within one year.

  • It's my 3000 post – Oracle ACE and Oracle employees

    Hello,
So, this is my post number 3000. In this forum, it’s not so unique, but still I decided to dedicate it to the subject of Oracle ACE and Oracle employees.
Recently, Joel blogged about Carl awarded Oracle ACE (http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2009/02/carl-backstrom-oracle-ace.html), after special efforts made by Sharon, because “the folks at the Oracle Technology Network decided that Oracle employees could no longer be awarded the ACE designation”. I truly wish I could write that Carl is a living proof of this decision being misguided. Unfortunately, I can’t. However, Carl’s case paints the situation in strong colors. Only after his death, Carl was honored with something that I’m sure seems so obvious to most of us.
I’m thinking that if this decision, not to award Oracle employees with Oracle ACE, was made sooner, people like Scott and Joel would not have awarded Oracle ACE, not to mention Tom Kyte, and probably others I’m not familiar with. Scott and Joel deals with APEX all day long, as part of their job, and this forum is not part of their day job description. Still, they find the time to help us all. Just look at the post counter of Scott. I’m amazed each time I see it. Scott, with all his experience, doesn’t limit himself to only the most complicated issues. You can see his replies, to the most basic issues, almost every day. Joel never failed helping me, and many others on this forum, every time there is an issue only he can help with. Scott and Joel were lucky, and have been awarded Oracle ACE, prior to this decision. Carl was less lucky, and as Joel wrote, I can’t think of anyone who better represent the true meaning and spirit of the Oracle ACE program.
The point I’m trying to make is that Oracle ACE should not be left for luck and timing, or place of work, for that matter. I’m sure that the OTN folks had best intensions when making this decision. I can understand that people might suspect favoritism toward Oracle employees; however, the solution shouldn’t be the easy one – no to every Oracle employee.
While writing, I can think of Tyler. He’s no longer a member of the APEX team, but we can still enjoy his wisdom and experience on this forum, not to mention his APEX dedicated blog entries, were he covers special and more complex aspects of working with this tool. I don’t know if Tyler qualifies to become Oracle ACE (and, of course, I’m only using him as an example) but it seems wrong to me not to even consider it, just because he happens to work for Oracle. I’m sure there are others like Tyler, in the other forums. I believe that this kind of behavior, by Oracle employees, should be encouraged, and not taken for granted. Certainly, they shouldn’t be penalized.
So, what all of this has to do with my 3000 posts? I believe I earned the right to call myself a frequent poster on this forum. As such, I know how time consuming this forum can be, not to mention the hard and tedious job of keep repeating the same answers to the same questions, keep pointing to old references, and such. So, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the active participants of this forum, Oracle employees and others. In spite of all the hardship, this forum can also be very rewarding, and at least for me, a very educated experience. I learned a lot in my attempts to help others. I can all heartedly recommend it to everyone who enjoys helping others, and enriching him /her self in the process.
    Regards,
    Arie.

If I understand you correctly, you ought to reinstall. At this point, even if you're able to resurrect this installation, it might be severely unstable. Mostly because of my proclivity for messing around with settings until I screw something up, I have a tremendous amount of experience with the recovery console, and my success rate is not inspiring. If you have data you need on the drive, your best course of action is to reinstall to a different boot drive, and once you’re able to boot, archive the files you want from the corrupted installation. Then you can wax both drives, restore the data and get everything back the way you want it. Getting your data back from the recovery console is basically a lost cause since it doesn't support wildcards (as in, you'd have to copy every freaking file one at a time).
I re-read the above paragraph, and it's not the clearest thing I've ever written, so if you need clarification on anything, let me know.

  • OCM exam and software environment.

    Dear All.
According to oracle web site: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=10gOCM&p_org_id=1001&lang=US#2
platform environment during exam will be as below:
    Platform
    * Oracle Database 10g Rel. 2 (10.2.0.2)
    * Oracle Enterprise Manager Rel. 2 (10.2.0.2)
    * Oracle Database 10g Rel. 2 (10.2.0.1) - For RAC Only
As you know during RAC installation and dfeployment there are many bugs/problems when using 10.2.0.1 without patchset 10.20.0.3 or 10.2.0.4.
Of course, there is workaround using from Metalink, However during exam no internet/metalink.
The same thing can be on GridControl installation and DataGuard scenario for switchover steps if using GridControl.
What is the impact of meeting with such problems during RAC scenario? Or Oracle already tested scenario to be bug safe?
    Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your time.I don't think that anyone would be giving an answer to you for this. Those who have written the exam, they are not supposed to talk aboutit, those who conduct , they are not authorised to talk about it. What ever is there in the lab, you have to live with that only, be it a bug, error , whatever.
I amnot an OCM(yet) so surely this is just my opinion. You may try asking the same to someone in OU and would be appreciable if you can post what they told you.

Edited by: 842638 on 23-Jul-2012 02:35My impression is Oracle University has appropriate channels in place (or should have) for tutors to get answers without resorting to public forums.
Or a least a support request to Oracle Certification would have been more prudent.
I'm a little concerned you soulkd be teaching an advanced OCM ....{thread:id=2380754} 'Please help me' is not IMHO appropriate two months before if I was to shell out lots of very good money to sit in one of your classes!
( You may think I am being a lot hard, but if a dba begs 'Please help me', then he possibly doesn't have the right attitude to be a DBA, let alone OCM, where the aptitude should be much more hunt the documentation, experiment, and distill appropraite answers for oneself).
I may be a being a litle hard, but we are talking Oracle Certified Master here.
Anybody reading this post might look at your previous recent questions, and wonder if that is appropriate for someone who will be teching them for OCM preparation.
I have seen some 3rd party WDP suppliers describe every possible exam on the path to OCM as an 'OCM' exam. And I absolute worst case I could see any WDP tutor delivering Oracle Univeristy basic SQL/OCA exams as OCM exams; and I can understand them asking the question you asked. But in the UK there is no way I coud imagine a OU UK tutor asking the question you asked.
However I understand Maylasia is culturally different to the UK and I may have misread your question completely.

  • HELP:About the OCP exam with Oracle Reports??

    Hello
Can i achieve OCP with SQL exam , PL / SQL exam and oracle 9i reports exam / xml publisher exam
I'm not intrested in giving an oracle forms exam.
I'm working as an oracle reports writer on oracle applications.
Kindly guide me in the right direction with appropriate oracle links etc.
    Regards
    Fahad Hameed.

You can achieve "PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" by passing "Introduction to Oracle9i SQL 1Z0-007" OR "Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL 1Z0-001" OR "Oracle Database SQL Expert 1Z0-047".
For "Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional", you need to pass "Oracle Forms: Build Internet Applications 1Z0-141" after getting the "PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" certificate.

  • Difference between Upgrade to Oracle 11g Exam and the OCP 11g exam

Is there a difference in the Oracle Database 11g exam and OCP 11g exam?
Say for example, i am an OCP 10g and I took the New Features Course for 11g. Then I will upgrade to OCP 11g
    or
I will take all the courses for 11g then take OCP (do not worry, money is not an issue in this case)
Is there a difference between the two in terms of the examination?
Will the exams for Upgrade to OCP11g and OCP11g the same?
Which one is harder? or easier?
Thanks. hope to see your feedback

    859640 wrote:
I am sorry. But i din't quite understand the explanation.
Correct me please if i am wrong.
    As I understand you:
    1. I am on OCP 10g
    2. I will need to take the exams (no need to get additional training) that need to be taken to be an OCP 11g which includes the following:
    - 1z0-051: Intro to SQL 11g
    - 1z0-052: Admin I 11g (if passed then OCA)
    - 1z0-053: Admin II 11g (if passed then OCP)
Is this correct? Can I put it this way.
I apologise if i am being explicit here but I am just being able to cover all angles.
If a person is 10g OCP DBA (and has proof of this as a valid certificate from oracle or can see this on their certification status at certview.oracle.com .... I say this because some people with a 1z0-043 exam pass only may incorrectly claim they are a 10g DBA OCP) then the following routes from 10g DBA OCP to 11g DBA OCP are possible:
    1) By passing 1z0-050 ... the 11g DBA OCP should be granted with no further requirements other than the 10g DBA OCP
    2) By passing 1z0-052 and 1z0-053 ....... HOWEVER .....
..... It is possilble some 10g DBA OCP may not have passed an SQL exam in the past (1z0-051/047/-007/001) and if this is the case one of 1z0-051/1z0-047/1z0-007 will also need to be passed on this route (I would recommend 1z0-051).
( Essentially route (2) is valid for any DBA OCP; there is a 1z0-055 single upgrade exam for 9i DBA OCP's)
It is recommended to find and check your existing certification under certification history (+not exam history ... that doesnt matter for this purpose+) under certview.oracle.com before starting on this route.

  • Oracle Free vouchers : Also for OCM exams?

    Dear Oracle Certification forum members
I would like to know if the OPN Free vouchers can also be requested on the Oracle Certified Master exam?
Or do we have at least the 25% discount?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hub,
The 100% partner discount codes are not applicable to the OCM exams. However, the 25% discount is. Since the OCM exam is registered for thru Oracle University rather than Prometric, the process for receiving the voucher is a little different. You can find instructions on this page http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/certification/ocppartners.html at the very bottom of the page.

  • OCM exam issue

    Moderators,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask my query but i have searched extensively on oracle website but didn't get any information on that.My query is
I was in talks with oracle executive for the past one month and finally booked my OCM 10g exam in India for 25th and 26th of October 2010.I didn't get any confirmation from oracle regarding the booking of exam till today 22nd of October 2010.I was given a confirmed date of exam by executive. The exam is in some other city and i have to take a flight to reach there. The oracle executive who took the payment from me is not picking up the phone nor replying my phone calls for the past 1 week.I called another executive at the local oracle office. He confirmed that such exam is not being conducted on 25th and 26th.The oracle executive knows my cell phone number and is not picking up my calls. When i called from some other number, she picked up the call and started giving me excuses. At the last hour, i have to cancel my flight. I can't say how much mental tension and harassment i have received apart from financial loss. I am shocked that these kind of people do exist in sales department of a renowned company. The sales executive didn't bother to book the exam even after taking exam fee but confirmed me the dates.I was not even given the 2nd point of escalation to discuss this issue.I have all the mail communication with the oracle executive and want to escalate this issue. Could anyone please let me know the department within oracle that looks into this kind of issues?
    Thanks

Edited by: user11970591 on Oct 22, 2010 4:38 AM- Please be aware i suspect there is high risk you may have been the victim of fraud of some bad people pretending to be from Oracle.
    - As in most countries, but perhaps particularly in India and some other countries, there exist a small number of dishonourable individuals who will happily part people from their money and not give the required service in return.
I would not advise putting full details on the forum , but if you get no satisfaction from the previous email address for oracle education india (give them chance to respond .. and remember it is the weekend ) ... then write full dates and phone numbers in an email to the ocpfraud_ww@oracle cc'd to [email protected] just in case there is an extreme case of incompetence or fraud going on.
    - However some aspects of your post do worry me ..... for example if i was booking an Oracle OCM exam .... (which i cant 'cos i've not attended pre-req courses and i'd fail the thing anyway) .... i somehow wouldn't expect to be talking to an Oracle executive about it. I would also wonder why you've just needed to register with OTN yesterday ... there can be good reasons for this ..... but for an OCM candidate it is high probability indicator that something is wrong.

  • OCM exam on South America

    Hi all,
I've been looking for OCM exams in my country or at least in other country of South America for a while and it's neve been offered. Almost one Year ago, I called to Oracle Education of my country and they told me that the OCM exam is only taken at USA for "Americas". What I don't understand is that in Europe or in Asia there are too many countries that offer the exam but here in Latin America, only at USA or Canada.
The funny thing is that I know 7 others DBAs that want to take this exam, but the cost of hotel, plane tickets, etc is increasing a lot the costs and they, like me, are waiting for this exam in our country or at least in a cheaper country near here. I do believe that is the same situation of too many others DBAs in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and other countries of South America.
I know that is necessary a proctor to offer this exam and probably there are other factors that difficults the offer of this exam. But for the other side, The OCM exam has been offered for a while and I guess that Oracle Education had the necessary time to fill those gaps
Is it possible to request the exam in a country of Latin America?
If Yes, How do I do this? If not, I'd like to say here that is not fair with Oracle DBAs from South America.
    Thanks All,
    Cerreia

I don't think it's the main reason. It's because almost all DBAs that I know from the Market have the OCP certification. In fact, almost all positions here is Brazil, for SR Oracle DBA are requesting experience and the OCP certification as well. ( I disagree with this, but is what I'm seeing )Sure, I probably didn't express myself properly. I concur that having the OCP, as a senior DBA, should be a prerequisite from the company's point of view and likely a no-brainer from an experienced DBA's perspective. On the other hand I believe that a recruiter would be hard-pressed finding one of those available in the wild.
    But I digress.
The point is that standing out from the crowd becomes a much tougher feat to accomplish when the OCP is a standard and the next step is out of reach.
With that said I wonder what it will take for Oracle to make that move.
Have you tried to contact them at [email protected]? Could be one way of approaching the issue and getting some feedback.
It's not that Chicago isn't a nice place to visit and all, it's just that there won't be much time and cash left to appreciate it. ;)

    Francisco.

    Please guide.
Thanks in Advance....Your only absolute mandatory expenditure is a the certification exam costs ... unless your particular certification objective also specifies a hands-on requirement.
I think you also need to frame your requirement as:
    - ' I am planning to study the required level to take the certification exam(s) X and 'Y'.'
+-' - Relevant Oracle supplied self-study and CD ROMs seem currently outside of my budget'
    - The 'free' and 'cheap' way to do it is by studying the appropriate official manuals. However a lot of people may find this too hard to work from these reference manuals.
--- There are some E-business books in the marketplace and to be published that may (or may noit) help, and I think some may be of poor quality.
    - By the way I notice you have selected a course with pre-requisites. Either you have the required pre-requisite E-Business knowledge, or you dont.
--- If you do you'll find the manuals for your selected certification much easier,
--- if you dont there are some books in the marketplace (some probably bad, and some to be soon published), thoat may help in this respect.
    - Sometimes there are third party suppliers/trainers who can help ... but the quality could be variable ..
If you think you've found cheap study material at a minimum check [www.certguard.com] to avoid unauthorised traning material.
Finally you could of course apply for employment at Oracle or for another employer who would pay for your training.

ThanksFirstly there are 2 OCM exams currently (excluding upgrade exam) .....
    ie 10g DBA OCM
    and 11g DBA OCM
The courses you present must be relevant to the exact version you wish to to take.
Please bear in mind any hands on course submitted and accepted as submitted for obtaining DBA OCP cannot also be used for DBA OCM.
I am a little worried that an OCM candidate cannot find the information, though perhaps [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=159#3] does not make it clear. [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5] does make it clear, however this may be too difficult for OCM candidates to find without better links.

  • Re: 11g OCM Exam Price

    Hi Marco ,
I would like to ask if its possible to schedule a special schedule for the OCM exam? For example, I am in the Philippines and the nearest exam site for me that wont require visa is HK and Singapore. However, based on the Oracle scheudule, the next exam schedule with be on May 2013 of which I am not ready. Do I have to wait for the next schedule ( which is most likely next year ) or can I request to have an schedule that are not listed in the site?
    http://education.oracle.co.uk/html/oracle/28US/SCHED_SP_OCM11_2.htm
Hope you can help me with my inquiry.
    Thanks,
    Froilan

    Froilan,
These exams are actually scheduled through Oracle University, as they use training facilities rather than Pearson VUE test centers. It is doubtful that you can get a date added on your own, but you may want to contact Oracle University http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=225 and ask about the possibility of getting a date added. One thing they have to consider is how many people will register. They have a minimum number of participants required in order to run an event. Typically, you can register your interest in an event and when they get enough interest, they'll add one. Since there is already an event scheduled, I'm not sure how that would work, so give them a call and talk to them about it.
