The sybex book is "OCA / OCP: Introduction to Oracle 9i SQL Study Guide" by Chip Dawes. See Amazon.com
You should be able to find this book and other books on Oracle 9i very cheap as Used books at Amazon.com
Get the practice test for exam 1Z0-007 from http://www.selftestsoftware.com/ which is that standard.
I would also read as much as you can of the Oracle 9i documentation at http://tahiti.oracle.com/

Oracle OCP book in 10gR2 database administration

Dear All,
I just finished and paased the OCA in 10gR2 database administration.
Can some body recommend me a good recommended book for me to start the OCP study. I do not need the Orcale pdf's links as i am now using those, need a good text book to read.

Which 10g OCP book ?

There seems to be two books available for Oracle 10g OCP study:
"OCP: Oracle 10g Certification Kit" by Sybex and
"Oracle Database 10g OCP Certification All-In-One Exam Guide" by Oracle Press.
Does anyone have any exposure to these books and have recommendations as to which one is better ?

If you want to add knowledge along passing exam then those books are good. If you are looking for material which covers important topics to pass the exam, I recommend oracle instructor lead material. If no chance of getting this material, use sybex book. Its pretty good to pass the exams.

Had the same error with JDeveloper 10.1.3.4. Installed an older JDK (1.5.0 - 17 instead of 1.6.0 - patch 12) an that solved the problem.

Firebrand Training - Official? Any experience of them?

I spotted that [Firebrand Training|http://www.firebrandtraining.co.uk|Firebrand Training] advertise that they are an Oracle Approved Education Centre while looking for somewhere to get [OCP certified|http://www.firebrandtraining.co.uk/courses/oracle/ocp.asp].
Does anyone have any experience with them on OCP or OCA ( or any other of their courses for that matter ).

I went on their OCA/OCP course in December. The whole thing was well put together so that the only thing that you had to worry about was studying, EVERYTHING else was taken care of for you.
If you do go on it, be prepared as it is very intense - 8am - 8pm plus 'Homework'/reading.
One thing that I can't stress enough is that you should already have a reasonable understanding of the subject before you go. They give you the official Oracle OCP handbook when you are there so there's no point buying that but at the minimum, do ALL of the reading that they send you. It would help if you got and read the SYBEX OCP book as well. It's very fast paced and you won't get the best from it if you have to learn everything from scratch.
Saying that, you don't have to take the exams while you are there as you can save your credits and take them after if you aren't confident.
All in all, I couldn't recomment it enough!

Why not use the oracle documentation for the contents of the exam or better, attend the course from Oracle Univ(which anyways you have to do to achieve your certification) ?

10g OCP Exam Guide Book - Exercise 35-1. Error?

If this is not the correct thread - apologies, feel free to advise me where to post this.
In this exercise, which involves managing users in a consumer group, I think there are a few missing steps, which should involve adding the OLTP, DSS & BATCH groups to the SYSTEM_PLAN, so that when one of the new users logs in, they are added to the necessary group.
Otherwise, they will just go into the OTHER_GROUPS group, as the system_plan does not know / have any reference to these newly created groups.
Thoughts welcome.

btThere are two books this could come from Oracle Press or Sybex.
Quite frankly the only thing for you to do is try it out! (Yes I know I should know off the top of my head but I dont). Part of the job of the DBA OCP is learning how to set these things up when there is an ambiguity and you are unsure amd you need to try it out ... it is part of a good certification journey).

Are you talking about a free link? I would certainly hope not-- such a link would almost certainly be to a pirated copy which would be both unethical and illegal.
Books24x7 and O'reilly's Safari are pay sites that provide online access to many technical books (Oracle Press also has a similar site). There is a good chance that one or both of these sites carry the book you're after.

Having known the contents of the exam, the right material, blah blah, I would get down to the ultimate questions. What is the best way to schedule/book for my first OCP 9i exam? Is Oracle website's certification section the only choice or are there any other ? Also I would like to know the locations/spots where I can attend the atleast-one mandatory course required for the certification. And how do I book my place for that.
