OCP for Oracle 9i first exam??
Hi guys,
I began to prepare me for the first exam 1Z0-007(SQL).
Now I would like to know your experiences with preparing
for the first exam.
I use the Sybex book OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide for preparing, is that ok or
enough?
Do I have to know really everything. Especially the Chapter with the single row functions in the Sybex book. There are hundreds of functions with their arguments.
What is very important for the exam?
I work since 1,5 years with Oracle Databases and so so I have a little experience with SQL.
How long do you prepare for the test???
I would be very happy for your requests.
thanxx

First of all, if your exam is only on SQL then it could be entirely different than the one I took. My exam lasted 2 hours and had 57 multiple choice questions. The exam is kind of like the practice tests especially the Prometric ones (because they are the company that administers the exam). However, the exam is probably harder in that most of the practice exams aren't as in depth as the real exam. I probably studied my material for about 2-3 hours a day for 5 weeks then the week before the exam I studied much more. It just depends on how you learn. I learn by repition, so I have to go over things several times before I can ingrain them in my head. It may take you less time. I would just make sure that I knew what any clause put before me did or meant! Because if you forget to study one little part that could be the part that the questions happen to come from. The test costs $125 and if you don't pass you must wait 30 days before you can retake it, so I would make sure I knew the stuff backwards and forwards before I took the exam. The best way to judge yourself is by taking the practice exams. I scored almost exactly the same on the real test as I had been scoring on my practice exams. Don't take the real exam until you can consistently score above 85% on the practice exam (you need to get 68% correct on the 1Z0-001 exam to pass). It may be different for yours though. That meant I could get 18 questions wrong, so its not too bad! Regarding the Prometric Exams -- I got them on a CD from a class I took, so I can't help you there -- aside from telling you that they are worth doing. **** For all info. on your specific exam go to education.oracle.com and look up the 9i exam requirements. This will tell you all you need to study and about the specific test ie. number of questions, passing score, etc. Hope this helps.

Believe me, just for the certification sake you wanna be OCA?
I have come across of people who simply read test exam question, go to the testing centers and do pass the exams. What they really loosing here with this approch is that no confidence of their skills, not reading Oracle docs and testing the same, and when they face interview they had to find really some difficult question where there won't be any multiple choice list. This make the interviewrs or the concern person feeling that the OCA/P has really no strength.
I would rather keep myslef reading the docs and doing the R&D before I appear for the exam.
As you said, you don't want to spend much money for getting OCA, its like wasting your money completing an OCA, if you don't answer interviewer questions and didn't get the job.
I am not discouraging you, rather, trying to put you on some confidence ROAD.

Here is the information from Oracle on such practices...
Oracle Certification Program Fraudulent Activity Policy
Oracle reserves the right to take action against any candidate involved in fraudulent activities, including, but not limited to, fraudulent use of vouchers, promotional codes, reselling exam discounts and vouchers, cheating on an exam, alteration of score reports, alteration of completion certificates, violation of exam retake policies or other activities deemed fraudulent by Oracle.
If Oracle determines, in its sole discretion, that fraudulent activity has taken place, it reserves the right to take action up to and including, but not limited to, decertification of a candidate's Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Certified Professional and/or OCM credentials, temporary, indefinite or permanent ban of a candidate from Oracle certification programs, notification to a candidate's employer, and notification to law enforcement agencies. Candidates found committing fraudulent activities forfeit all fees previously paid to Oracle, or to Oracle's authorized vendors, and may be required to pay additional fees for services rendered.
View the Oracle Certification Program Candidate Agreement which requires your agreement before the start of each exam.
Take note of this. I would not want to put in the effort you are looking to do only to have Oracle decertify me.
Study, practice, study some more. Then, when you are ready, take the test.
Good luck,
Don.

No test center in Brisbane for Oracle 1Z0-052 exam (Oct 2011)
Looking through this forum it looks like this has been a problem on and off for a couple of years.
Anyone know when there will be a testing center in Brisbane?
The nearest one is currently 700km away in Rockhampton - that's not a viable option.I have the same problem, and I was told by VUE service desk that they had been negotiating with a new test centre in Brisbane, hopefully, it will be opened in November.

Oracle 1Z0-052 exam help !!
Hi,
I have passed SQL fundamental-I (1Z0-051) exam and now I am preparing for oracle database Administration exam-I(1Z0-052), but I have few questions :
(1) Is knowledge of linux/solaris is must to pass this exam.
(2) Is their is any requirement of PL/SQL before starting for this exam study. As Brandye says, you should use the exam topics to plan your study. The answer to your questions, however, is no to both. You can find links to Oracle documentation, articles, books and videos relevant to this exam here:

Preparation for Oracle 10g OCA and OCP exams
Hi all,
I am studying for my first Oracle 10g OCA exam. Thus far, I have the Transcender exam prep software and book from Oracle Press for the OCA/OCP exams with Oracle 10g. With a test Oracle 10g database to practice on while I study, am I on the right path?
ThanksUse the http://education.oracle.com OR http://otn.oracle.com as your portal - you'll see the Certification link on either one. From the Certification page you will be able to drill down to the objectives and requirements of the exam. I suggest you use that as a checklist, as the various books and sample exams have been known to include mistakes or miss items.
In addition, you should be familiar with the first few chapters of the Oracle Concepts manual and also, preferably, the first few chapters of the DB Admin Guide - both available from http://tahiti.oracle.com

Want to know about certification path for Oracle 11g database OCP.
Is it OK to give the exams first and then submit the course studied for OCP ?
I have studied three modules required for OCP ; SQL Fundamentals, Admin I and Admin II, and now I am planning to give all 3 exams in January 2015. But I don't have Enrollment ID for course submission. The institute where I learned is trying for Oracle Workforce Development program for 11g, and it will take sometime. So presently I don't have Enrollment ID.SudeepShakya wrote:
Thank You Very Much. I will take all 3 exams and then submit the course after the institute acquires affiliation.
Could I take this opportunity to remind people to ensure people taking courses from non oracle university institutions ensure their training provider is authorized to deliver that training by Oracle University for the fullfilment of any associated Oracle certification training requirement.

1Z0-045: Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Oracle 8i OCPs
Hi,
I was looking for right reference book for the 1z0-045 upgrade certification. I could not find any reference book that is related to this certification. Only one book have found out on Amazon site, which is "OCP Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide (Oracle Press) (Paperback)" published by McGraw Hill.
But this book does not show exem number 1z0-045 anywhere. So I am not sure, is it a right book to buy.
Please let me know if any one has any knowledge about that.
I appreciate for your information.
Thanks
AmitThe book you mention is for those individuals who are upgrading their 9i OCP to the 10g OCP. Since you are apparently upgrading from 8i OCP, there is possibly a gap in your learning. You might want to take a look at OCP Oracle9i Database: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide (Paperback) which explains the new features for Oracle 9i to someone coming from an 8i background. No additional exam would be needed in your case but this book may help to fill out your knowledge a bit. You could also take a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96531/toc.htm if you would rather not buy an additional book.

Beta Testing Continues for "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning" Exam
!http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009-0204-1123.gif!
The beta period continues for the <strong>Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning certification exam (1Z1-054)</strong>, which is a single exam requirement for Oracle 11g DBA OCPs to earn the Oracle Database 11g Performance Tuning Certified Expert (OCE) certification. Read more on the <a href="http://bit.ly/UGJh4">Oracle Certification Blog</a>.</p>Hello Hussein
Yes true, I remember it for the OCE and Linux exams they rescheduled the end date several times. As far as I know it is related to the number of participants and the given feedback.
I've also participated to several other exams, and I must admit that it is a long and hard process to get through. When I got the feedback 10 weeks after the beta period closure, I had to review nearly all the topics to get the exams passed the second time. But this it is a cheap and good exam preparation.
What about you Hussein? Do you think that's trivial?
Cheers,

Certification for Oracle AS10g OCA-OCP
To all,
Right now I am looking at review materials for taking up the exam for OCA, but I think the topics covered were for the older version of Oracle AS10g(9.0.4).
I noticed that there is a lot of difference, directory structure and log files between ver 9.0.4. and the latest version that OracleAS has. (i.e. OracleAS 10.1.3.1)
So would you recommend taking the the certification for OracleAS or wait until Oracle comes up with a latest exam that applies for the latest versions?
regards,
AntonHi Anton,
I have recently passed the OCA AS10g exam. I didn't find much difference in exam. Hope you are referring to OracleAS 10g OCA Exam Guide (by Sam Alapati).
BTW I didn't find any material for OCP AS10g, did you get something for that?
Regards,

Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?
Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
Thanks & Regards,Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
That said, if it matters
- What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
- What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?
