OCR not working with Acrobat Pro X

I have Acrobat Pro X ver 10.1.9 using Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) OS running in a virtual environment (Parallels ver 9.0) on a MacBook Pro. I have 16 GB of System Memory and 6 CPU's dedicated to the virtual environment. For some reason: 1. I cannot select renderable text with my cursor in a pdf containing such (i just see the cursor turn to a hand symbol as if to use the cursor to move the image around;  and  2. I can run Acrobat's OCR on a recently scanned pdf but once again I cannot select the text (same hand symbol appears). I went to Control Panel -  Programs and selected "Repair" the Acrobat program but this was no help.  What I don't understand is prior to installing my Acrobat Pro X program on this computer I had it installed on a PC running Windows 7 Pro (32 bit) and everything worked fine. Any ideas?  WR
02/10/14 Update: Spoke with Adobe Tech Support and they informed me the problem I am having with the windows version of Acrobat Pro X above is caused by running the program in the Parallels virtual environment on a Mac. This is odd as the purpose of running Parallels on the Mac is so that one can operate the Windows OS and programs on a Mac. They suggested I purchase the Pro XI version for Mac.

"Copy C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\plug-ins\PaperCapture\* to the parent directory C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\plug-ins
For Acrobat X, the path would be acrobat 10.0."
IT WORKS!!! Hey thanks dodland, now all I have to do is get my CS6 MC installer to take less than X hours to install just a version of Acrobat X that will recognize my MC serial number! I installed a version of Acrobat 10 from the MC extracted files and ran it as a trial, no go on the OCR. Then I did your copy suggestion and all is well. I've copied this fix as a text file to live with my MC install files. Now I just have to get a activated version running.
Thanks again, as I was considering wiping the entire drive just to fix this single issue and that would not be fun...

  • Acrobat Pro X serial not working with Acrobat Pro XI

I have a serial for Acrobat Pro X which I've been using for quite some time. After formatting my PC, I'm now trying to install Acrobat Pro on my new system but it seems that my serial "is not valid for Acrobat Pro XI".
I'd be happy if I could install Pro X, but it's nowhere to be found on the internet.
Let me get this straight: I can't reinstall a program I ALREADY BOUGHT when I remove it from my system. Nice.
    Help me out here please.

  • Scanning not working with Acrobat Pro X or Photoshop?

My Epson Perfection V350 scanner is listed as a supported scanner on Apple's site.
After installing the latest versions of Acrobat Pro X and Photoshop Extended, the scanner is not available to either app. After several useless exchanges with Adobe online support, I called phone support tonight. I was told that neither Acrobat nor Photoshop support scanning in Mountain Lion and I should use Apple's Image Capture. If that is true it should be considered a catastrophe by Apple, Adobe, and Mac users. I tried installing the latest Photoshop TWAIN driver with not luck. I updated to Mountain Lion because scanning wasn't working in Lion. Appalling.
I have Epson driver 8.0 installed. It is all I can find. If anyone knows of something more recent, or a workaround for this nasty problem, I'm all eyes.
Acrobat Pro X is 10.1.4 and Photoshop Extended is 13.0.1

Matt, you are right about the Epson Scan Utility. I didn't have it installed. I installed it before you posted, and the scanner appears and works in Acrobat, but Photoshop still can't see it. So, half way there. Thanks. The driver was the same as I had installed.
Is there any part of your version of Photoshop 64 bit?  The Epson TWAIN driver is only 32 bit, so that may be the difference.  You mentioned in your first post that you installed the latest Photoshop TWAIN driver.  I wonder if that is the problem.  Is there a way you can go back to an earlier version of that part of Photoshop?  I am not familiar with Photoshop.
If you visit the Drivers and Downloads for the Epson Perfection v350, you find no driver download but this message:
Description: The latest Mac OS X ICA scanner driver for your Epson product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:
Connect the all-in-one or scanner to your Mac and power it on.
Select the menu, then Software Update.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the available updates.
Note: Software Updates may find multiple updates for your system. You may choose to install all or some of the updates by clicking onShow Details.
Compatible Systems: Mac OS X (v10.8.x)
That is a load of hooey: Software Update installs nothing for the scanner. And it doesn't supply the requisite Epson Scan Utility.
I am well aware of how Epson's pages are laid out.  That is why I gave you the direct download link.  The ICA drivers are for Image Capture.  They do not use the TWAIN technology.  When you are on EPSON's site, you have to override the browser sniffer and say that you are using OS X 10.6.  Then you will see the Epson Scan software.  Much easier just to give you a direct download link from their ftp server.
And yes, the ICA drivers probably were already installed with Mountain Lion.  I think a universal ICA driver is supplied as part of ML for Canon and EPSON scanners.  You can check by looking in the /Library/Image Capture/Devices folder for the EPSON ICA driver.  You will find the TWAIN driver you just installed at /Library/Image Capture TWAIN Data Sources.

  • USB superdrive not working with Mac Pro

Is there a trick to getting a USB Superdrive working with a Macpro?
The drive in the Macpro no longer ejects and have tried connecting the USB drive to both the front and back ports - does it not work with Mac Pros?
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

I had a problem my superdrive. It would play dvd's and cd's that were already burnt but would not burn blank DVDs or CDs- in the recent past it had no problems burning. In addition, the Finder would not display the superdrive. When I put a blank disc in it would go to Disk Utilities and would not allow burning. With help from Apple I discovered the problem-- The settings in CDS & DVDs had been changed from When you insert a blank DVD/CD "Ask what to do to  to  "GO to Disk Utilities". If this sounds like your problem try changing the settings to this:
Try going to; System Preferences/ CDs & DVDs
Change these two settings to this:
When you insert a blank CD: Ask what to do
When you insert a blank DVD: Ask what to do
NOTE: If they are already set to this you probably have a different problem. If they are set to Go to Disk Utilitiy this is probably a solution.
    And
    Then go to Finder Preferences
Make sure that under "Show these items on desktop:" that the checkbox for CDs, DVDs, and iPods is checked.
Try to burn the DVD again (reload Disc- perhaps restart) and try again.
Don't know how these setting changed but they did. It worked for me.

Generally signing out and signing in (signing out and back into the Creative Cloud application ) will fix this. If it isn't resolving the issue for you, let us know what you see and we can try something else.

  • Destinations from an HTML file not working with Acrobat XI

When the link is executed in Acrobat X it opens to the correct destination. When opened with Acrobat XI it doesn't. In fact, when I open the PDF (created with Acrobat Pro X) with Acrobat Pro XI I don't see any destinations... I don't see where to view them if they do exist. I already tried disabling the protected settings in XI and that didn't work. What happens is a dialog for downloading the PDF opens and your only choice is opening the PDF to the first page (instead of the destination). This is also happening on all browsers... so I am suspecting something buried in the Control Panel. Please help.

Thank you but this doesn't help... I know where the destination pane is... that's how I created them... Acrobat XI is not showing the destinations but the issue is Acrobat XI opening a download dialog instead of following the destination. I think it's an application or Windows issue but I don't see it...

I cannot reset the SMC by removing the battery, I do not have the confidence to remove my battery, and do not have the time to send the computer to someone else to do it.
I also tried updating my OS from 10.7.4 (Might've been 10.7.3) to 10.7.5.
My computer is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010), running OS X 10.7.5 Lion.
I need to get this problem fixed ASAP, any help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention, I'm connecting the monitor via MiniDisplay -> HDMI. I've also tried USB -> HDMI and USB -> DVI -> HDMI but none of them seem to work.

  • Outlook Quick Print no longer works with Acrobat Pro v11

    Hi All,
Prior to installing Acrobat Pro v11 on a Remote Desktop Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) we were able to use the Quick Print function for attachments within Outlook (Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit), although the default printer was physical printer the application would always open with Acrobat Pro even after disabling it as a default application. Upon uninstalling Acrobat Pro v11 the issue no longer occurs and the quick print fuction has been restored to normal.
If there is a known technical solution it would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,

rgrosz789, thank you for your suggestion.
Your code worked but caused run time error at the following line as below.
    Sub Test()
        'Dim app As CAcroApp
        Dim app As Object
        Set app = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
        app.Show 'Raises run time error
    End Sub
I finally uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9, reinstalled it, then, my original program worked fine.
Something must have gone wrong in Acrobat 9 :-)

  • External isight not working with Macbook Pro early 2008

My external isight is not working with my Macbook Pro early 2008 (2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 6 GB RAM, OSX Lion). It goes warm when plugged into the firewire port but is not recognized in system prefs (lists as "unknown device" and also does not turn on (green light. I tried resetting PRAM and all the other stuff as suggested here but no luck. It used to work fine on a 1st generation Macbook and I remember that one of the first times I tried it with this machine here it turned on for a few secs (green light) but then it just simply stopped.
Unfortunately, I have no other firewire device to check the port.
    Any ideas, dear community?

Our (old) external Firewire iSights can be sensitive to dust, shock, vibration, humidity, and other environmental factors in storage.  (I store my spare in its original plastic shipping case with a new desiccant pack on a solid shelf - never in a desk drawer or other container that moves.)
You have tried several good things and may be finding that your old iSight needs work.
Here are the alternatives I can offer.  Consider any you have not tried in any order you like:
    (1) You can try Apple's suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Test in more than one user account and with more than one Apple softwre application.
    (2) My expanded suggestions here: http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
    (3) Reset Firewire ports using the info from this old archived Apple article: http://web.archive.org/web/20090331211534/http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1317
    (4) If you have no local Apple Authorized service Provider who can help you, other service options are here: http://www.apple.com/support/isight/service/
    (5) Consider a new USB cam with current warranty such as one of these: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/

When I plug the Cinema Display into either of the mini DVI ports, I cannot get a picture, although the iSight camera works fine. If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.
Is it not possible to use this monitor with a Mac Pro without an adapter, even though the Mac Pro does have mini DVI ports?

  • Basic functions not working in Acrobat Pro X...

    Hi,
I'm finding that basic functions are not working properly. I tried re-launching the application as well to determine if a technical glitch or not.
Control + Shift + R is not allowing me to rotage a page.
Control + or - is not letting me zoom in & out, however when I click the big plus or minus icons, it does.
What's with the loss of short-cut functionality? Please advise, thank you.

Have you downloaded the user guide PDF to read about what is new or different?

  • External Display not working with MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011)

I just bought the current MacBook Pro 13" (i7 processor). My external display (Benq 20"W, 1600x1050) always says "No Signal Detected!". I've tried it with a DVI-Adapter (Griffin Video Display Converter) and with a VGA-Adapter (LMP Mini DisplayPort-VGA-Adapter). With lower resolution I once got a picture (but with weird lines). On my old MacBook (white, 2.16 Ghz) there was never a problem with this display (also OS X 10.6.6). Who can help?

Check this post if you want more info:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2774718
The gist is that DVI is currently very iffy through Thunderbolt. Mini display -> mini display OR mini display -> HDMI should work fine. It's most likely not your adapter itself but the fact that it's DVI.
If you can, get a mini display -> HDMI adapter and try that (assuming your external has HDMI).
I should hear back tomorrow or Monday from apple engineers with more specific info about this issue and I will update then.
BTW- DVI anywhere in the chain will make things fail. Mini Display -> DVI and a DVI/HDMI cable won't work with any reliability (I've tested it on three completely different monitors).

  • Shared Review End Review, Deadline not working in Acrobat Pro 9 for Acrobat Reader 8 reviewers

I am testing the features of PDF Shared Reviews on a network server using Acrobat Pro 9 with reviewers using Acrobat Reader 8.1. (All are Windows users.) After initiating the review via the Tracker and having no problem getting the reviewers to comment and publish, I select End Review in the Tracker. Acrobat Pro 9 registers this action and shows that the review has ended in the yellow bar at the top of the PDF and in the Tracker. However, all the reviewers using Acrobat Reader 8 can continue to comment, publish their comments, and the comments continue to show up in the PDF posted in the network folder. That PDF file continues to say, when opened in Acrobat Pro 9 by the initiator, that it is closed for reviewing. The comments published after the review has ended continue to show up. This is true minutes, hours, and days after the review has been ended so is not a synch problem.
I cannot add comments to this PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 because Acroat Pro registers the end of the review. I can open this file in Acrobat Reader 8 on my computer and continue to add comments. This same problem exists after the deadline set initially has passed. Acrobat Reader 8 users are always able to comment and publish comments when the review should have been ended for them.
How do I get the reviews to end for Acrobat Reader 8 users?
    Thanks.
    Mary-Nell

Those users will have to upgrade to Reader 9 to get the deadlines working
